Sendy Zapier integrationAutomate Sendy with Zapier.
The Sendy Zapier integration gives you 3 triggers and 3 actions. All three triggers are instant: a new subscriber, an unsubscribe or a sent campaign reaches your Zap the moment it happens, even on the free Zapier plan, with no polling delay.

What the Sendy Zapier integration actually does
It links the Sendy newsletter app you host on your own server to Zapier, so list events can start automations and other tools can add, update or remove subscribers without anyone opening Sendy. Sendy sends through Amazon Simple Email Service; Zapier only handles what happens around the sending.
Three results people usually build first. A welcome track that fills itself: New Subscriber starts the Zap and Add / Update Subscriber drops the same address into an onboarding list. A clean opt-out across lists: New Unsubscriber fires and Unsubscribe Email removes that address from a second list, so nobody gets mail after saying no. Drafts prepared for you: Create Draft Campaign builds a campaign with its sender, subject and HTML, ready for a human to review.
What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an existing subscriber before acting. There is no action that sends a campaign either: the Zap stops at the draft, and the send button stays in Sendy. And nothing is ever imported retroactively.
If you are weighing other platforms, the Sendy n8n integration and the Sendy Make integration pages cover the same app with their own tools.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words you will see in the editor, in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, here a new subscriber, an unsubscribe or a sent campaign.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like adding an address to a Sendy list.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan's allowance is a count of those.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself: Sendy calls Zapier when the event happens, so nothing waits for a scheduled check. All three Sendy triggers work this way.
- Polling trigger
- The other kind: Zapier asks the app for new items on a timer and keeps only what it has not seen. Sendy has none, which spares you the wait.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Sendy Zap really costs
Zapier bills completed actions, not events. That changes how you size a list workflow.
- Trigger0 tasks, whatever the volume
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
- Sendy on the free planYes, it is not a premium app
The trigger never costs a task, so a busy signup form does not eat your plan by itself. Each action that succeeds counts once: a Zap with two Sendy actions burns two tasks per subscriber. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and you need a paid plan. Sendy is not a premium app, so the free plan can use it.
Connect Sendy to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Sendy account linked once, then reused by every step that touches Sendy.
- 02
Pick Sendy
Type Sendy in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Sendy side, where you sign in with an account that can reach the brands and lists you plan to automate.
- 03
Grant access
Allow Zapier to use the account and close the loop. From now on, any Zap step can pick this connection. If a list belongs to someone else, make sure your account can read or write it first.
Your first Zap: route new subscribers to an onboarding list
GoalEvery new subscriber of your main list who passes your rule lands in an onboarding list, without a manual export.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap and pick Sendy as the app that starts it. Choose New Subscriber as the event and select your connection from the previous section.
- 02
Set the trigger
Pick the List to watch: this field is required. Test the trigger: Zapier brings back the three most recent subscribers, so you map fields on a real one.
- 03
Add the filter
From the plus icon, add a Filter, then set the field to look at, the rule and the value. Text rules only work on text, so pick the matching type or it never passes.
- 04
Add the action
Add Sendy again with Add / Update Subscriber. Map the email from the trigger and pick the onboarding List. Both fields are required, and the same action also updates someone already there.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back. When the onboarding list shows the test address, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Remember the filter makes it multi-step, so a paid plan.
Sendy triggers
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Sendy, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Campaign Sent
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new campaign is sent.”
Starts your Zap once a campaign has gone out from one of your brands, so the rest of your tools learn about it without anyone sending a heads-up message. Useful for logging what went out, or for preparing the next piece of work.
New Subscriber
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new subscriber is added to a list via Sendy's subscribe form or the API.”
Fires each time an address joins a list, whether it came through the Sendy subscribe form or through its API. It is the natural starting point for onboarding: the person is on your list, and your other tools hear about it immediately.
New Unsubscriber
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when someone unsubscribes from a list via a campaign or Sendy's 'unsubscribe' API.”
Reacts when someone leaves a list, either from the link in a campaign or through the unsubscribe API. This is the event to hand on when other tools or lists must respect that choice.
Sendy actions
Sendy gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Create Draft Campaign
ActionIn Zapier“Create a new draft campaign.”
Builds a campaign in Sendy without sending it: sender name and address, reply-to, subject, HTML and brand all come from the Zap. Someone still reviews and sends it from Sendy.
Add / Update Subscriber
ActionIn Zapier“Subscribe a new user to a list. This action can also be used to update an existing subscriber.”
Puts an email address on a Sendy list, and if the address is already there, updates it instead of failing. One action covers both cases, which keeps signup Zaps short.
Unsubscribe Email
ActionIn Zapier“Unsubscribes an email address from a list.”
Takes an address off a given list, which is how you honour an opt-out recorded in another tool. The person stays on your other lists unless you remove them there too.
When a Sendy Zap breaks
Most failures are not bugs. They come from how Zapier treats events and from fields left empty.
Zapier does not attach any help article or rate limit to Sendy, so the cases below are the general limits that apply to every app, read through what a list workflow does. Check them before you publish, not after the first complaint. If a run fails anyway, the Zapier troubleshooting page is the place to start.
Past subscribers are never picked up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Everyone who joined before stays where they are; moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that feeds its own trigger
If New Subscriber watches list A and Add / Update Subscriber writes back into list A, the Zap sets itself off again and burns tasks fast. Always target another list.A bulk import floods the Zap
Importing thousands of addresses at once can trigger Zapier's flood protection, which can hold the batch back instead of running every event.Empty required fields stop the run
Brand, List and Email are required across the Sendy steps. When an earlier step hands over an empty value, the action fails and no task is counted.
