Google Tag Manager training: the 6 best courses in 2026, by profile
Curriculum, hours, certificate, price: we compared the main Google Tag Manager courses and trainings in English so you can pick the right one in five minutes.
The short answer. For most marketers and analysts, Analytics Mania's GTM Masterclass for Beginners is the course to buy: 9 hours, a certificate, a 30-day refund and team seats, for $299. On a tighter budget, Loves Data covers more ground for $225, server-side containers and Consent Mode included. Already know GTM and need a server container? Simmer's server-side course with Simo Ahava is the specialist pick at €599. If your company pays for a subscription, LinkedIn Learning makes sense. And for a live day with a trainer, Jellyfish: £499 a seat ex VAT in London or online, or a private session for the whole team.
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is Google's free tool for deploying tracking tags (GA4, Google Ads, the Meta pixel) on your site without editing code every time. We compared more than a dozen GTM courses and trainings in English on curriculum, hours, price, certificate and team fit. The fact that matters most before you pay: Google doesn't issue any Google Tag Manager certification. Every "GTM certification" you see is a certificate of completion from the course provider. So judge a course on what it teaches and how current it is, not on the badge.

Analytics Mania · Google Tag Manager Masterclass for Beginners 5.0
Analytics Mania is the name that comes up most when practitioners recommend a GTM course, and the beginner masterclass shows why. It packs 9 hours of main video into 70+ bite-size lessons across 9 modules, with a sandbox website to practice on. It's aimed at beginners and "fresh intermediates", and the page shows it was updated in 2026, which matters for a tool where Consent Mode and GA4 keep shifting.
You get lifetime access with free updates, a certificate once you finish all the material and the final challenge, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Teams are handled simply: add a user for $100 on the single course. When you outgrow it, the Intermediate-Advanced course ($449, about 14 hours with 5 hours of server-side tagging) takes you into the data layer in depth, CSS selectors, GA4 ecommerce and server-side. Analytics Mania says 10,000+ students have taken its paid courses.
- 70+ short videos, 9 modules, updated in 2026
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Extra team seat for $100
- Clear next step: a 14-hour intermediate course with server-side
- ✓The most recommended GTM course among practitioners
- ✓Practice website included
- ✓Monthly payment option
- ✗Self-paced only: no live trainer
- ✗The certificate is the provider's, not Google's
- ✗Server-side is in the separate $449 course
The safest buy for one person or a small team. Take the bundle if you already know you'll need server-side tagging this year.
Loves Data · Google Tag Manager Course
The Loves Data course is the best value we found. For $225 you get 6 hours 53 minutes of video over 13 modules and about 80 lessons: foundations, how Tag Manager works, a demo website, variables, the data layer, events, triggers and trigger logic, tag sequencing, Consent Mode, maintenance and a 10-lesson module on server-side containers. Few courses at this price cover consent and server-side at all.
The certificate isn't automatic: you get it once you finish every lesson and your assignment is approved, which makes it a little more meaningful than a completion badge. Loves Data shows a 4.9/5 student rating and 15,000+ students trained, both its own figures. The page doesn't mention team pricing, so buying for several people means several licenses.
- Server-side containers and Consent Mode included at $225
- Certificate requires an approved assignment
- 13 modules, about 80 lessons
- ✓Lowest price among the full GTM courses
- ✓Broadest syllabus for the money
- ✓Payment plan in 3 installments
- ✗No team pricing on the page
- ✗Under 7 hours of video: less hands-on depth than Analytics Mania
- ✗Ratings shown are the provider's own
The pick when you pay out of pocket. For a team, Analytics Mania's $100 extra seat is easier to manage.
Simmer · Server-side Tagging In Google Tag Manager
This isn't a beginner course, and that's the point. Simo Ahava, shown on the page with a Google Developer Expert badge, teaches server-side tagging in four task-based sections: setting up the server environment, mapping a custom domain and DNS, controlling Cloud costs, consolidating GA4 and Facebook data flows, community templates, Transformations, then BigQuery, Firestore, Consent Mode and deployment on Cloud Run behind a load balancer.
Expect about 10 hours with 70+ videos and a quiz at the end of each section. You keep lifetime access and get a digital certificate when you finish. Practitioners quoted on the page include analytics leads at Bounteous and Zoro US. At €599 it's the most expensive self-paced course here, and the page lists no team pricing.
- Taught by Simo Ahava, Google Developer Expert
- Goes as far as BigQuery, Firestore and Cloud Run
- Quiz per section and a final quiz
- ✓The deepest server-side curriculum we found
- ✓Task-based: you build a real environment
- ✓Lifetime access
- ✗Not for beginners: you need web GTM first
- ✗€599, priced in euros
- ✗No team pricing on the page
Buy it after a general GTM course, when server-side is on your roadmap. Its testimonials come from analytics leads, not beginners.
Jellyfish · Google Tag Manager
Jellyfish teaches GTM in one instructor-led day. In the UK the course has a public price, £499 per person ex VAT, with public sessions in person at The Shard in London or live online. Private sessions are also available at The Shard, online or at a location of your choice in the UK or abroad, which is how its US page sells the same course. The four modules cover an introduction to GTM, working with variables, event tracking and building triggers, and working with a data layer. Participants get a certificate of attendance.
For a buyer, that makes Jellyfish the only live, trainer-led course in this list with a public price per seat. The course targets marketers and web developers, and a single day keeps it at fundamentals plus the data layer. Server-side and Consent Mode aren't in the listed modules, and a private session for your team is priced on request.
- Public price: £499 per person ex VAT
- Public sessions at The Shard, London, or live online
- Private sessions in the UK or worldwide
- Data layer module included
- ✓A live trainer who can answer your team's questions
- ✓A published per-seat price for public sessions
- ✓Works for mixed marketing and developer teams
- ✗Private team sessions are priced on request
- ✗One day: no server-side or Consent Mode in the modules
- ✗Certificate of attendance only
The pick when you want a person in the room. At £499 a seat, compare a public session with a private day for the whole team, and with team seats on Analytics Mania.
LinkedIn Learning · Learning Google Tag Manager
Corey Koberg, founder and CEO at Merkle|Cardinal Path, walks you through GTM in 1 hour 34 minutes: accounts and containers, built-in tags, variables, triggers, previewing and debugging, versioning and custom HTML tags. It was released in 2024 and holds a 4.7/5 rating from 341 learners, a solid sample for a short course.
The appeal is budget and admin: many companies already have LinkedIn Learning licenses, and there's a "Buy for my team" option. You get a certificate of completion for your profile, and a one-month free trial covers it if you don't have access. But 94 minutes is an overview. It won't get you to a working data layer or Consent Mode setup.
- 4.7/5 from 341 ratings
- Instructor runs a major analytics consultancy
- Certificate of completion on your LinkedIn profile
- ✓Free if your company already has licenses
- ✓Short enough to finish in one sitting
- ✓Team purchase option
- ✗1 h 34 is an overview, not a training
- ✗No data layer depth or Consent Mode chapter
- ✗Subscription needed after the trial
A good first hour to decide whether GTM is your job. Then move to a full course.
Coursera · Google Tag Manager : Advanced Tracking & Analytics (LearnKartS)
LearnKartS's course on Coursera takes about 7 hours across three modules: getting started with setup and best practices, the foundations of tag management, and advanced tagging and tracking techniques. It's labeled intermediate, and 1,756 learners had enrolled when we looked.
It's included with Coursera Plus, shown at $239 for the first year on the current offer ($399 a year after that), and the shareable certificate requires buying the certificate experience. Financial aid is mentioned. The page shows no rating yet, which makes it hard to judge quality, and LearnKartS isn't a GTM specialist the way Analytics Mania or Simmer are. Its main draw is convenience if your company already provides Coursera.
- Included with Coursera Plus
- Shareable certificate
- 1,756 learners enrolled
- ✓Convenient if you already have Coursera
- ✓Short: about 7 hours
- ✓Financial aid available
- ✗No rating shown on the page
- ✗Provider isn't a GTM specialist
- ✗Certificate requires the paid experience
Fine as a module inside a Coursera plan. Outside one, the specialists above give you more for the money.
Learning Google Tag Manager: the path, from basics to advanced
A paid course isn't always step one. Here's the order we'd suggest to a professional starting from zero, free resources included, and the point where paying starts to make sense.
The 5 steps
Start with MeasureSchool's free beginner course
FreeMeasureSchool's free "Google Tag Manager for Beginners" course covers what you need on day one: GTM basics, installing it, setting up your first tag, tracking button clicks and conversion tracking. There's no certificate. Practitioners regularly point beginners to MeasureSchool and Analytics Mania, so it's a sensible first stop before you spend anything.

Keep the official help center open
FreeGoogle's Tag Manager help center isn't a course, and it offers no certification. It's the reference for setting up the Google tag, Google Ads conversions, GA4 and Floodlight. Use it to check a setting, not to learn how the pieces fit together.

Buy one structured course
PaidPay when your site starts sending conversions to Google Ads or Meta, when you need to wire up a consent banner, or when several people touch the same container. That's when a structured course pays for itself. Analytics Mania ($299) or Loves Data ($225) both get you to an intermediate level with a certificate.

- $225 to $299
- Time
- 7 to 9 hours of video
Try server-side for free with Stape Academy
FreeStape Academy offers a free course on server-side GTM. To get its certificate, you watch 80% of the videos and pass the quiz for each module. It's a good way to see whether a server container is worth the effort for your site before paying for a specialist course.

Go deep on server-side with a specialist
AdvancedOnce the browser container is solid, the advanced step is server-side tagging: custom domain, Cloud costs, BigQuery, Consent Mode on the server. Simmer's course with Simo Ahava (€599) or Analytics Mania's intermediate course ($449, with 5 hours of server-side) are the two serious options. If you also run GA4 reporting, our Google Analytics training ranking covers that side, and our page on Google Tag Manager alternatives helps if your team is rethinking the tool.

How to choose your Google Tag Manager course in 2026
Before you compare syllabi, answer three questions: who pays (you or your employer), how many people need training, and what you need to track (a content site on GA4, or ad conversions with consent). The right course mostly picks itself. Here's how we'd steer the most common cases.
You're learning on your own
Your employer pays
You're training a team
Your site runs on paid ads
You need server-side tagging
You only need an overview
What we left out, and why
- Ask what you get at the end: a provider certificate, a certificate of attendance, or nothing. Google issues no GTM certification
- Check that the course covers Consent Mode and GA4
- Look at the content date: some catalogs still list 2022 editions, Analytics Mania was updated in 2026
- Look at the number of ratings, not just the score: 4.8 from 19 says little
- Check for team seats before buying several licenses
- Look for a refund window: Analytics Mania offers 30 days
- For live training, get the price per head in writing
Google Tag Manager training · FAQ
Is there an official Google Tag Manager certification?
No. Google doesn't offer an individual Google Tag Manager certification, and its help center only has setup guides. Any "GTM certification" is a certificate from the course provider: Analytics Mania, Loves Data and Simmer issue their own, Jellyfish a certificate of attendance. The tip: in an interview, a clean container you built (with Consent Mode and conversions) speaks louder than any certificate.
How long does it take to learn Google Tag Manager?
About a day of focused video plus practice for the basics. LinkedIn Learning's overview takes 1 h 34, Loves Data about 7 hours, Analytics Mania's beginner course 9 hours, and Simmer's server-side course about 10 more. A live session with Jellyfish takes one day. The real learning happens when you build your own container afterward.
How much does a Google Tag Manager course cost?
From free to about $600. MeasureSchool's beginner course and Stape Academy are free. Loves Data costs $225, Analytics Mania $299 (or $599 for the beginner and intermediate bundle), Simmer €599. LinkedIn Learning and Coursera come in their subscriptions. A live day at Jellyfish costs £499 per person ex VAT in the UK, and private team training is on request.
Can my employer pay for a GTM course?
Usually yes, as professional development. Ask for a receipt and the certificate of completion, which Analytics Mania, Loves Data, Simmer and LinkedIn Learning all issue. For a team, ask about seats: Analytics Mania adds one for $100.
Do I need to know how to code to learn GTM?
Not for the basics. Beginner courses from Analytics Mania, Loves Data and MeasureSchool start with no code. Some JavaScript helps at intermediate level, and Analytics Mania sells a separate JavaScript for Google Tag Manager course. Server-side tagging (Simmer) adds Cloud and DNS concepts, so take it after the basics.
Should I learn Google Analytics 4 before GTM?
It helps a lot. GTM mostly sends data to GA4, so if you don't know what you want to read in GA4, you won't know what to tag. Many courses teach both: Analytics Mania sells a GA4 course next to its GTM courses. Our Google Analytics training ranking compares the GA4 side.
Which GTM course covers server-side tagging?
Simmer is the specialist: about 10 hours on server-side alone with Simo Ahava, for €599. Analytics Mania's intermediate course includes 5 hours of server-side, Loves Data a 10-lesson module, and Stape Academy a free course with a certificate. Learn the web container first, or the server side won't make sense.
Is a free Google Tag Manager course enough?
For a simple site, often yes. MeasureSchool's free course gets your first tags and conversions live. It stops being enough when you track ad conversions with a consent banner, or when several people share a container. That's when one paid course, with exercises and a certificate, saves you weeks of bad data.
