Power BI training: the 8 best courses in 2026, by profile
Curriculum, price, certificate, team fit: we compared the Power BI courses in English to tell you which one to pick, and why.
The short answer. If you want a live instructor at a public price, take ONLC: classes from $495 for one day, a two-day introduction for $795, and a three-day PL-300 class for $1,795. If you need to train a team on a per-seat subscription, DataCamp costs $28 per user per month, billed yearly. Once you know the basics, SQLBI is the reference for DAX. If you want a short live bootcamp in New York or online, Noble Desktop. If your company wants the PL-300 in one purchase, Learning Tree includes the exam voucher in its $2,785 three-day class; for a long self-paced path, Coursera's Microsoft certificate runs on a Coursera Plus subscription. And before you pay anything, Microsoft Learn is free and covers the same ground as the official course.
Power BI is Microsoft's tool for turning spreadsheets and databases into interactive dashboards. We compared the curricula, prices, certificates and reviews of the main English-language Power BI courses, from free Microsoft material to live classes and DAX deep dives. The most useful finding: a course certificate and the Microsoft certification are two different things. Only the PL-300 exam ($165 in the US) gives you the Microsoft credential; most courses on this page end with a certificate of completion; only Learning Tree includes the PL-300 voucher, and Coursera gives 50% off it.

ONLC Training Centers · Power BI instructor-led classes
ONLC sells Power BI as a ladder of short live classes, in one of its centers or remote. The Introduction for Excel Users takes two days for $795, the Intermediate class follows in two days for $995, and a three-day class prepares the PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst exam for $1,795. The cheapest live class is Get and Transform Data with the M language, one day for $495, and the two-day DAX Introduction costs $995.
On-demand video versions also exist if you prefer to learn at your own pace. Public classes come with a retake option and a money-back guarantee, and groups are quoted on request, virtual, onsite or both. Only the PL-300 class is tied to a Microsoft certification, and ONLC teaches it as a Microsoft training partner.
- Two-day intro at $795
- PL-300 class in three days
- Retake option on public classes
- ✓The lowest published price for a live Power BI class
- ✓A clear path from intro to PL-300
- ✓Group quotes for virtual or onsite training
- ✗Class contents harder to compare from one page
- ✗Groups need a quote: no team price is published
- ✗Most classes give no credential
The best value for live training in the US. Book the two-day intro first and add the DAX class once you use Power BI every week.
Learning Tree · Power BI Training (PL-300), Course 8574
Learning Tree's Power BI Training is its Course 8574, a three-day live class built on the PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst exam. The page lists the tuition at $2,785 or $2,474 depending on the pricing option selected (the page offers commercial or government pricing without saying which price is which) and states that the Microsoft exam voucher is included in the course tuition, so the $165 exam is not an extra line on the invoice. After-course instructor coaching is included, and the live in-class version earns 23 NASBA CPE credits.
It is the most expensive three-day class on this page. Compared with ONLC's three-day PL-300 class at $1,795, you pay about $1,000 more, of which $165 is the exam you would otherwise buy yourself. For a manager who wants one purchase order covering class and exam, that simplicity is the point.
- 3 days live
- PL-300 voucher included
- After-course instructor coaching included
- ✓Exam voucher in the price, nothing to buy on the side
- ✓Three days aimed squarely at the PL-300
- ✓One invoice for class and exam, easy for a training budget
- ✗The most expensive of the three-day classes ranked here
- ✗Two prices on the page, without saying which is commercial and which is government
- ✗Three days of class: practice afterwards relies on the coaching, not on more sessions
Take it if your company pays and wants the certification in one go. If you pay yourself, ONLC's PL-300 class plus the $165 exam costs less.
DataCamp · Power BI Fundamentals
Power BI Fundamentals is a track of six courses for beginners, with exercises in the browser and a Statement of Accomplishment at the end.
Its strength is the team plan: $28 per user per month billed yearly, from two users, with the rest of the DataCamp catalog included. Two things to know. Subscription prices change, so check the pricing page before you budget. And DataCamp's own ranking of Power BI courses lists only DataCamp courses, so do not treat it as a neutral comparison.
- Teams plan from 2 users
- Exercises in the browser
- Six courses in one track
- ✓Easy to roll out to a team with one invoice
- ✓Short lessons that fit into a work week
- ✓Clear pricing for one person or a whole team
- ✗No live instructor
- ✗Statement of Accomplishment only
- ✗The subscription price has moved in the past
The simplest way to upskill a team of analysts at once. For a single learner who prefers live teaching, ONLC is the better fit.
SQLBI · Mastering DAX Video Course
Marco Russo and Alberto Ferrari teach this course: 39 hours of training, including 32 hours of video lectures, in 433 videos. It goes deep on how DAX evaluates formulas: row and filter context, CALCULATE, time intelligence and performance. You get a PDF certificate of completion.
The pricing is built for professionals: $449 for an individual license valid 36 months, $1,790 for a transferable license that a company can move from one employee to another, and published group discounts applied in the cart: 25% from 10 students, rising to 72% from 350. It is not a beginner course: take it once you have built a few models.
- 433 videos by Russo and Ferrari
- Transferable license for companies
- 36 months of access
- ✓The deepest DAX training we found
- ✓A license a company can reassign
- ✓Long access period
- ✗Not for beginners
- ✗No live support
- ✗Certificate of completion only
The best second course once your reports work but your measures do not. Do Microsoft Learn or ONLC first.
Microsoft · Microsoft Learn and Course PL-300T00
Microsoft publishes free learning paths on getting started with data analytics, modeling data in Power BI and building visuals and reports, plus a free practice assessment for the PL-300 certification. The same content exists as an official course, PL-300T00 "Design and manage analytics solutions using Power BI", rated Intermediate: free in self-paced form, or three days in a classroom with a Microsoft training partner.
The instructor-led version is not sold by Microsoft: each partner sets its own price, and ONLC, for example, runs it as a three-day PL-300 class for $1,795. The free paths are the most exam-aligned material you will find, but they are a menu rather than a course: nobody tells you what to learn next or checks your model.
- Free learning paths and PL-300 practice assessment
- Official PL-300T00 course content
- Three-day classroom version through partners
- ✓Free, official and aligned with the exam
- ✓Covers modeling, visuals and deployment
- ✓A partner class exists when you want an instructor
- ✗No guided order or feedback in the free version
- ✗The classroom price depends on the partner
- ✗No certificate of completion that means much to an employer
Do it first, whatever you buy afterwards. If you stall after the first path, a live class like ONLC's is the next step.
Coursera · Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Professional Certificate
Microsoft's Power BI Data Analyst Professional Certificate on Coursera is an 8-course series that Coursera estimates at 5 months at 10 hours a week. It starts from data preparation and ends with exam prep. Learners who complete it receive a 50% discount voucher for the PL-300 exam; the exam itself is not included. The courses are rated 4.6 out of 5 across 9,672 reviews.
The program page shows no price of its own; access comes through a Coursera Plus subscription, listed at $59 a month or $399 a year. At the suggested five months, the monthly plan comes to about $295, less than the yearly plan; the yearly plan only pays off if you take seven months or more.
- 8 courses
- 50% off the PL-300
- 4.6/5 on 9,672 reviews
- ✓Long, structured path from zero, designed by Microsoft
- ✓Half price on the PL-300 exam at the end
- ✓Large review base to judge it on
- ✗Self-paced: no instructor to unblock you
- ✗About five months, slow if you need results this quarter
- ✗Exam not included, only discounted
Good value if you are disciplined and have months ahead. If you need to be productive in weeks, a live class gets you there faster.
Noble Desktop · Power BI Bootcamp
Noble Desktop teaches Power BI in 12 live hours, in its New York classroom or online. The program covers Power Query, visuals, basic DAX (measures, calculated columns, SUM vs SUMX), relationships, the Power BI service, scheduled refresh and drill-through. You can retake the course for free within a year and get a digital certificate of completion.
Noble also trains teams onsite or online, with volume discounts. At $799 for 12 hours, it works out to about $67 an hour, less per hour than Learning Tree or the ONLC PL-300 class.
- 12 hours live
- Free retake within a year
- Onsite team training
- ✓Short and live, easy to fit into a week
- ✓Free retake
- ✓Covers the Power BI service, not only Desktop
- ✗Only 12 hours, shorter than the 3-day classes
- ✗Basic DAX only
- ✗Not built around the PL-300 exam
A good fit if you want a live class this month and are near New York. ONLC covers more for less if remote is fine.
NobleProg · Power BI Training Course
NobleProg's Power BI Training Course is 14 hours of instructor-led, live training, online or onsite, for beginner to intermediate data professionals and business analysts. The outline runs from Power BI architecture and data sources with the M language to data modeling, DAX, visualizations, row-level security, and team collaboration and mobile use. Sessions mix short lectures with exercises in a live lab environment.
Public dates are listed at $2,220 online and $3,420 in a classroom, and a public class runs only with a minimum of 4 people. For one-to-one or a private group, NobleProg asks you to request a quote, and the course can be customized to your needs. It ends without a Microsoft exam: if the PL-300 is the goal, Learning Tree or ONLC prepare it directly.
- 14 hours live, online or onsite
- Private group and custom outline on quote
- Row-level security and DAX in the outline
- ✓Built for a team class, with a customizable outline
- ✓Covers modeling, DAX and security in two days
- ✓Online or at your site
- ✗$2,220 for 14 hours is expensive per hour
- ✗Public class needs at least 4 people to run
- ✗No PL-300 exam voucher
A good pick when you are training a team and want the outline adapted to your data. For one person, ONLC's two-day intro costs far less.
Learn Power BI: the path, from basics to advanced
A paid course is not always the first step. Here is the order we recommend to a professional starting from zero, free resources included, with the point where paying starts to make sense.
The 5 steps
Start free with Microsoft Learn
FreeMicrosoft publishes free learning paths on getting started with data analytics, modeling data in Power BI and building visuals and reports. You also get a free practice assessment for the PL-300 and the official PL-300T00 course content in self-paced form. Its weak spot is guidance: you have to know what to learn next. It is enough for an analyst who already knows Excel and has time.

Practice every week in the browser
Low costAfter Microsoft Learn, short guided exercises keep you moving. DataCamp's Power BI Fundamentals track has six courses, with exercises in the browser, for $28 per month billed yearly. Remember that Power BI Desktop, the free app where you build reports, runs on Windows only, and sharing reports with colleagues needs the Power BI service, which requires a license.

Pay for a live class when your model gets messy
PaidThe moment to pay is when your data model becomes confusing and your measures return numbers you cannot explain. A live instructor saves weeks at that point. ONLC's two-day introduction costs $795; Noble's 12-hour bootcamp costs $799.

Go deep on DAX
AdvancedDAX is where most Power BI users stall. SQLBI's Mastering DAX is the reference, with 433 videos and a 36-month license for $449. ONLC also teaches DAX in a live class. This is also the stage where a team plan or private training pays off, if your whole team publishes reports.

Prove your skills with the PL-300
CertificationThe PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst exam costs $165 in the US. Coursera's Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certificate gives 50% off, and Learning Tree's $2,785 class includes the voucher. To compare the prep options, read our guide to Power BI certification courses.

How to choose your Power BI training in 2026
Before you compare curricula, answer three questions: who pays (you or your employer), how many people need training, and what you need to deliver at the end (a first report or a clean data model for the whole company). The right course follows almost by itself. And if you are still weighing the tool itself, our page on Power BI alternatives helps you decide before you invest in training.

Courses we did not rank, and why
- Check whether the course ends with a certificate of completion or prepares the PL-300
- Look up whether an exam voucher is included
- Never pay the crossed-out price on Udemy
- Ask for a group quote before buying more than two seats
- Make sure you have a Windows machine
- Be wary of rankings written by a provider that lists only its own courses
Power BI training · FAQ
How much does a Power BI course cost?
From free to about $3,400 (NobleProg in a classroom). Microsoft Learn is free. Live classes start at $495 for a one-day class at ONLC, $795 for its two-day introduction, and $799 for 12 hours at Noble; ONLC's three-day PL-300 class costs $1,795, and Learning Tree's, voucher included, $2,785. SQLBI's Mastering DAX costs $449 for a 36-month license, and DataCamp's Teams plan $28 per user per month billed yearly. Add $165 if you sit the PL-300 exam in the US.
A worked example for a team of 4: NobleProg's 14-hour online class at $2,220 per person comes to $8,880, with 4 as its minimum group. Sending the same 4 people to ONLC's public two-day introduction costs 4 x $795, or $3,180. NobleProg's public class costs more per seat; a private group is quoted on request and can be built around your own data.
How long does it take to learn Power BI?
A two-day class or a short guided track gets you building your own reports. Coursera's beginner program takes about five months at ten hours a week. The fastest way to make it stick: apply it to a real report from your job within two weeks of finishing.
Is a paid Power BI course worth it compared with free Microsoft Learn?
Microsoft Learn covers the same ground as the official course, for free. What you pay for is structure and feedback: a project to follow, or an instructor who explains why your measure is wrong. If you are disciplined and know Excel, start free and pay only when you stall.
Does a Power BI course give me a Microsoft certification?
No. Courses end with a certificate of completion. The Microsoft credential comes only from passing the PL-300 exam, $165 in the US. Coursera's professional certificate, ranked here, gives 50% off the exam; Learning Tree's three-day class includes the exam voucher. Our page on Power BI certification courses compares the prep options.
Should I take the Coursera Power BI certificate instead?
Only if you want a long beginner path built by Microsoft and plan to sit the PL-300: the program gives 50% off the $165 exam. Access is through a Coursera Plus subscription, $59 a month or $399 a year, and the courses are rated 4.6 out of 5 on 9,672 reviews. Reviews of its final prep course are mixed, with a practice test reported to mark correct answers wrong. If budget matters, start with free Microsoft Learn and add a live class from ONLC when you stall.
What is the best Power BI course for beginners?
Start with the free Microsoft Learn paths. For live teaching, ONLC's two-day Introduction for Excel Users costs $795; for practice on a budget, DataCamp's Fundamentals track. All of them assume you know Excel basics.
Will my employer pay for Power BI training?
Often, yes, if you show what the team gets out of it. Bring the course page, the price per seat and one report you will build afterwards. Ask the provider for an itemized invoice in your name and a certificate of completion. In the US, ask HR about an educational assistance program: under Section 127, up to $5,250 a year per employee is tax-free. For a group, a private quote from ONLC or Noble Desktop is usually easier to approve than several individual purchases.
Can my team get private Power BI training?
Yes. ONLC quotes groups for virtual, onsite or mixed training, and Noble Desktop trains teams onsite or online with volume discounts. For ongoing practice rather than a one-off class, DataCamp's Teams plan starts at two users.
Does Power BI work on a Mac?
Power BI Desktop, where you build reports, runs on Windows only. On a Mac you need a Windows virtual machine or a work PC. Check this before your first class.
