The best dedicated server for a small business in 2026
Your server runs the company. It can't go down, and it can't cost twice the sticker price.
Your ERP is crawling, the file server in the back office is ten years old, or a client wants to know where their data lives. A dedicated server is a physical machine you rent from a host, all to yourself. Most "best dedicated hosting" lists are written by hosting companies ranking themselves, and they skip what matters to a small team: the real first-year cost, who patches the box, and what happens when it breaks at 2 a.m.
The short answer: OVHcloud Advance if you want room to grow and data centers in the US, Canada and Europe, from $147 a month. Liquid Web if nobody on your team manages servers, $205.70 a month fully managed on a 2-year term. IONOS for the cheapest real dedicated box, $47 a month with no setup fee. Hivelocity for a modern spec with no setup fee at $97, and Hetzner if your tech team serves Europe.
One rule for all of them: a server without an off-site backup isn't infrastructure. It's a bet.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored placement is always flagged on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

5 dedicated servers compared for small businesses
The rank follows what a 5 to 100 person company needs to run an ERP, shared files or line-of-business apps. The score is the one each host carries everywhere on the site, which is why Hetzner can score higher than IONOS and still rank lower here. Prices come from each provider's official page, in US dollars where the provider shows them.

How we compared and scored
For a small business, a dedicated server comes down to one question: will it run your business apps for three years without a surprise on the bill or a sleepless night? Raw power matters less than the first-year cost, who answers when it breaks, and where the box sits.
We read each provider's pricing page and terms, often in the page source when prices load with JavaScript, then user feedback on forums and review sites, with a focus on complaints. We also read the lists at the top of Google: most are published by hosts that rank themselves first.
Three names are missing on purpose. InMotion and Bluehost blocked our reader on their official pricing pages, so we couldn't check a price at the source. Kimsufi, OVHcloud's budget line, is a backup or test box with a 500 Mbps public port, not a production server.
A host carries the same score everywhere on the site. OVHcloud, Hetzner, IONOS and Hivelocity keep the scores from our dedicated server ranking. The rank follows small-business use.

OVHcloud
OVHcloud's Advance line is its mid-range bare metal, the one that sits between budget boxes and enterprise servers. The Advance-1 2024 runs an AMD EPYC 4244P (6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.1 GHz), 32 to 192 GB of RAM, NVMe drives in software RAID, 1 to 5 Gbps of public bandwidth depending on the location and a 25 Gbps private network to link servers together. DDoS protection is on by default.
The headline price hides one thing: the setup fee equals a month's rent. On the Advance-1 2024 that's $147 a month plus $147 once, so your first bill is $294 and your first year $1,911. The 2026 version (EPYC 4245P) starts at $204 a month with a $204 setup fee, and the US page lists it as coming soon.
Its weak spot is support. User reviews often describe a hard-to-reach support team, so don't count on OVHcloud to fix your apps. You rent the hardware, you run the rest.
Tip: check stock on the exact configuration before you plan a migration date. Several Advance builds show "Coming Soon" on the US price page.
- Mid-range line built for growth
- 25 Gbps private network
- DDoS protection by default
- ✓Data centers in the US, Canada and Europe
- ✓Room to grow, up to 256 GB on the 2026 build
- ✓Modern AMD EPYC CPUs
- ✗Setup fee doubles the first bill
- ✗Support often hard to reach
- ✗Some builds coming soon
The default pick for a company with an ERP or several apps to run. Budget for the setup fee, and line up someone to manage it.
Liquid Web
Liquid Web sells the opposite of a bare box. Its entry plan is fully managed: an Intel Xeon E-2134 (4 cores at 3.5 GHz), 16 GB of RAM, a 480 GB SSD and 10 TB of bandwidth, with cPanel, 500 GB of Acronis backups, DDoS protection and root access included. You keep full control, and someone else handles the boring, risky parts.
The $205.70 a month on the page is the 2-year price: Liquid Web takes 15% off for a 2-year term and 10% off for 1 year. Month to month, the same plan comes to $242. That puts year one between $2,468.40 (locked in for two years) and $2,904 (no commitment), more than twice IONOS or Hivelocity. The math still works if it replaces a few contractor hours a month.
Its limit: the entry hardware is modest for the money, with 16 GB of RAM and a single drive listed. A busy ERP will want the next tier, at $312.80 a month on the same page.
Tip: send your software list and versions to sales before ordering. "Managed" covers the OS and the panel. Your ERP or custom app may need its own support.
- Fully managed
- cPanel included
- 500 GB Acronis backups
- ✓No sysadmin needed
- ✓Backups included in the plan
- ✓Root access kept
- ✗Highest price on this page
- ✗Modest entry hardware
- ✗Price shown with a 2-year discount
The calm choice for a team with nobody to run a server. Confirm the term behind the price before you commit.
IONOS
IONOS is the cheapest real dedicated server in this ranking: $47 a month, no setup fee, month to month. The entry box, the "Dedicated Server L-16 HDD", pairs 16 GB of RAM with spinning hard drives. It won't win benchmarks, but it's enough for a file server, an intranet or a small ERP. A year costs $564, with nothing to add to get started.
For a small business, the support line is the point: IONOS offers 24/7 expert support by phone, chat or email, and a personal consultant on the account. When your IT contractor is away, there's someone to call.
Its limit: spinning hard drives on the entry box, slower than SSDs for a database. Some customers also complain about billing and cancellation, so keep written proof of every request.
Tip: if you run a database, step up to an SSD configuration in the same range. Compare drive types in the configurator before you pick.
- No setup fee
- 24/7 support
- Month to month
- ✓Cheapest real dedicated box here
- ✓A support line to call
- ✓No lock-in
- ✗Hard drives on the entry box
- ✗Only 16 GB on the entry box
- ✗Cancellation complaints
The best way off a VPS for a small team on a budget. Pick SSD storage if a database lives on it.
Hivelocity
Hivelocity sits between IONOS and Liquid Web. For $97 a month, its entry server packs an Intel Xeon E-2236 (6 cores, 12 threads, 3.4 GHz), 16 GB of RAM, a 480 GB SSD and 20 TB of bandwidth on a 1 Gbps port. The FAQ is clear: "Hivelocity does not charge a setup fee for dedicated servers", except custom builds that need special hardware. A year costs $1,164.
Instant servers usually come with software RAID 1, and hardware RAID cards are available for RAID 5, 6 or 10. The host claims more than 40 data centers across six continents, handy if your customers aren't all in one region.
Its limit: it's unmanaged by default. Without a managed plan, installing third-party software costs a flat $100 per job, on a best-effort basis, so plan for a contractor or a management add-on.
Tip: 16 GB is tight for an ERP plus file sharing. Price the RAM upgrade in the configurator before comparing with OVHcloud's 32 GB starting point.
- No setup fee
- 6-core CPU and SSD
- 40+ data centers
- ✓Newer hardware than IONOS for the price
- ✓Hardware RAID available
- ✓Wide location choice
- ✗Unmanaged by default
- ✗16 GB of RAM to start
- ✗Extra fees for software installs
A solid middle ground if someone on your side can run the server. Add RAM before you add anything else.
Hetzner
Nobody gives you more hardware per dollar. The AX41 costs €59 a month (Hetzner bills in euros) for 64 GB of RAM, two 512 GB NVMe drives and a 1 Gbps port, with no setup fee and unlimited traffic. It's also billed by the hour (€0.0945), capped at the monthly price, which makes a short migration overlap cheap. A year comes to €708 before VAT.
Hetzner's dedicated servers live in Nuremberg, Falkenstein and Helsinki, in ISO 27001:2022 certified data centers. That's great for European users and GDPR, but US visitors will feel the distance.
Its limit: it's raw metal with no management. Hetzner advertises phone and email support, but user reviews mention tickets left unanswered for days, alongside others praising a disk swapped overnight.
Tip: stick with the AX41 rather than the server auction for production. Auction boxes start at €75.70 a month and say nothing about drive wear.
- 64 GB and NVMe for €59
- Hourly billing, monthly cap
- Unlimited traffic
- ✓Most RAM for the money
- ✓No setup fee on the AX41
- ✓Cancel monthly
- ✗No US data centers for dedicated
- ✗Billed in euros
- ✗No management
Unbeatable on hardware if your team runs it and your users are in Europe. US-first companies should look higher up this list.
What the "best of" lists don't tell small businesses
Most rankings name hosts. They don't tell you how to size the box, who will maintain it, or what the first year really costs.
The sticker price isn't the yearly price
OVHcloud's setup fee equals a month: an Advance-1 2024 at $147 costs $1,911 in year one. Hivelocity and IONOS list no setup fee on standard servers, so the year is just twelve months of rent. Add licenses: one admin on a forum notes a cPanel license alone can run $40 to $50 a month on bare metal.
"Managed" can mean two very different things
Some hosts give you a real team that patches the kernel and answers at 2 a.m. Others install a control panel and hand you a ticket queue. Ask what's included in writing: OS updates, monitoring, backups, and response times.
Location is a business decision
Hetzner's dedicated servers are in Germany and Finland. OVHcloud, IONOS, Hivelocity and Liquid Web have US data centers. If clients or regulators care where data lives, pick the location at order time and get it in the contract.
- First-year cost including setup fees
- Two mirrored drives (RAID 1) at minimum
- A backup off the server, with another provider
- Guaranteed bandwidth, not just the port speed
- Who installs security patches
- The data center location, in writing
- Real stock on the configuration you want
Move your company to a dedicated server without nasty surprises
Six steps drawn from official pages, integrator guides and user complaints. They apply to every host on this page.
The steps
List everything that will run on it
PriorityERP, shared files, email, website, internal tools: write down each app, its version and user count. Ask your ERP vendor for its minimum spec. That list tells you whether a VPS is enough, whether you need dedicated, and whether a managed plan fits your software.
- Rule
- The ERP vendor sets the floor
Size for three years
AdviceCompanies keep a dedicated server for years. Leave headroom on RAM, and pick SSD or NVMe drives for databases. A recent CPU matters more than core count on an old generation.
- Suggested floor
- 6 cores, 32 GB, 2 SSDs
Work out year-one cost
BudgetAdd rent, setup, extra IPs, panel licenses, off-site backup and contractor hours. A $47 server can cost more than a $205.70 managed one if you pay four admin hours a month.
- Example
- OVHcloud Advance-1 2024: $1,911 in year one
Set up backups before you migrate
Must-doRAID protects you from a dead drive, not from human error or ransomware. Keep three copies on two media, one off-site. Run a test restore before go-live.
- Rule
- 3 copies, 2 media, 1 off-site
Move one service at a time
MethodStart with something low-stakes like the intranet, then files, then the ERP on a Friday night. Hetzner's hourly billing lets you run old and new servers side by side for a few days without paying a full extra month.
- Typical pace
- One service a week
Lock it down on day one
SecurityTurn off password logins in favor of SSH keys, open only the ports you need, enable automatic security updates and a tool like fail2ban that blocks repeated login attempts. The host's DDoS protection doesn't replace any of this.
- Time
- Half a day of contractor time

Small business dedicated servers · FAQ
How much does a dedicated server cost for a small business?
Plan on $47 to $205 a month for a serious machine: $47 at IONOS, $97 at Hivelocity, $147 at OVHcloud (Advance-1 2024, plus a $147 setup fee), $205.70 at Liquid Web with full management (2-year term, $242 month to month). Add off-server backups and, if nobody on your team runs Linux, someone to patch it.Do I need managed or unmanaged dedicated hosting?
Managed if nobody on your team can handle OS updates, security patches and monitoring. Liquid Web includes that, cPanel and 500 GB of backups in its plan ($205.70 a month on a 2-year term). Unmanaged boxes at IONOS or Hivelocity cost less than half, but the hours you pay a contractor can erase the gap.Dedicated server or VPS for a small business?
A VPS is fine for a website, a light CRM or a few internal tools. Go dedicated when you run an ERP, a busy database, several virtual machines, or a client contract says your data can't share hardware. At the entry level the gap is small: IONOS sells a full physical server for $47 a month. What specs does a 20-person company need?
For file sharing, an ERP and email, aim for 6 recent cores, 32 to 64 GB of RAM and two mirrored SSD or NVMe drives (RAID 1). Ask your ERP vendor for its minimum spec first: it sets the floor, not the hosting company. Is RAID a backup?
No. RAID 1 keeps the server running when a drive dies, but it copies a deleted folder or a ransomware encryption to both drives instantly. Keep at least one copy off the server, with another provider, and run a test restore every quarter. Are there hidden fees on dedicated servers?
Often. OVHcloud charges a setup fee equal to one month ($147 on the Advance-1 2024), which doubles your first bill. Hivelocity and IONOS list no setup fee on their standard servers. Extra IPs, control panel licenses and Windows licenses are billed on top almost everywhere. Can I host a US business on Hetzner?
For dedicated servers, Hetzner only offers data centers in Germany and Finland, and bills in euros. That works for a team serving Europe, but US users will see higher latency. For US-based customers, OVHcloud, IONOS, Hivelocity or Liquid Web keep the server closer.
