What is the best fraud prevention software for your online store in 2026?

The one that blocks stolen-card orders without scaring off good customers. And whose price you know before you book a demo.

Fraud prevention software checks every order before you ship it. It looks at the IP address, the device, the email, the card, and whether the shipping address has anything to do with the billing one. Then it returns a risk score and approves, declines or holds the order. A fraudulent order costs more than the product: you lose the goods, the shipping, and you pay a dispute fee on top: $15 per dispute received at Stripe in the US, plus $15 if you counter it (refunded if you win).

Short answer: Stripe Radar is our top pick if you already process with Stripe, because it is switched on by default and the basic tier is included. NoFraud is the best pick on Shopify if you want someone else to eat the fraud chargebacks on orders they approved. FraudLabs Pro covers a small WooCommerce or Magento store for $0 to $29.95 a month. SEON, MaxMind minFraud and Chargeflow solve narrower problems: a fraud team that investigates, a developer who wants a score per API call, a merchant who also wants to win disputes.

Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, Sift and Kount are not ranked here. None of them publishes a price, and we only rank tools you can actually budget for. More on them below.

How we scored

How we compared and rated

Most of what ranks for this search is written by vendors who put themselves first, or by top-10 lists that repeat the same enterprise names with "contact sales" where the price should be. That leaves a store doing $20K a month with no idea whether a tool costs $30 or $3,000.

We read each tool's pricing page, its docs and its app listing, then went through merchant feedback in Shopify App Store reviews, WordPress.org threads and forums. The central criterion here: the tool must score each online order before fulfillment and publish a price or a priced model. A tool with no readable price cannot be compared fairly, so it is not ranked.

The five criteria carry equal weight. It is the same grid across all our pages, which keeps a tool's score consistent site-wide. None of these six tools has its own review page with us yet.

1
Best if you already use Stripe

Stripe Radar

4.4/5

Radar is Stripe's built-in fraud layer, using machine learning trained across Stripe's network. A card that was flagged at another business is often known before it ever reaches your checkout. On Radar Lite and Radar Standard, each payment gets a risk level: normal, elevated or highest. Out of the box, only highest-risk payments are blocked; elevated ones go through. The granular 0 to 99 risk score is a Plus and Pro feature.

The big win is zero setup. Radar Lite comes at no additional charge on standard payments pricing. Radar Standard starts at $0.05 per screened transaction, or $10 a month on a monthly plan, and runs the default rules. You need Plus (from $14) or Pro (from $20) to write and backtest custom rules, work a manual review queue, set your risk preferences and turn on Adaptive 3D Secure, which only challenges the risky payments. That matters if you sell into Europe.

The catch: on the self-serve plans, Radar scores what goes through Stripe. Stripe does offer its risk signals for payments processed elsewhere, but as a custom enterprise deal. Still picking a processor? Read our payment gateway comparison first. And Stripe's docs are blunt: you are ultimately responsible for the payments you accept. There is no reimbursement if a fraudster slips through.

Standout features
  • Risk level on every payment, 0-99 score on Plus and Pro
  • Backtest rules on past payments (Plus and Pro)
  • Adaptive 3D Secure (Plus and Pro)
+Pros
  • ✓Nothing to install if you are on Stripe
  • ✓Lite tier at no extra charge
  • ✓Learns from every payment you flag as fraud
−Cons
  • ✗No guarantee: the chargeback is yours
  • ✗Non-Stripe payments need an enterprise deal
  • ✗Aggressive rules can decline real buyers
Verdict

The default answer on Stripe. Run the default rules for a month, look at what got blocked, then move to Radar Plus and add a 3D Secure rule for the gray zone instead of tightening the block threshold.

Best chargeback guarantee

NoFraud

4.2/5

NoFraud doesn't stop at a score. On its guarantee plans it makes the approve or decline call for you, and covers fraud chargebacks on the orders it passed. It mixes automated scoring with human analysts on the borderline cases. That combination is what merchants bring up most on Reddit: it catches fraud without nuking good orders. Its Shopify listing sits at 4.7 out of 5 across 164 reviews.

The price list is public, no demo required. Screening alone is free up to 100 orders a month. Guarantee plans run 1% of revenue with a $250 monthly minimum (covering up to $500 per order), 1.25% with a $350 minimum ($1,000), or 1.50% with a $450 minimum ($2,000). Above $50K in monthly sales, pricing becomes custom.

The catch is that minimum. Under $25K in monthly revenue you still pay $250, so your effective rate climbs above 1%. Some small merchants also report not qualifying for the guarantee after the trial. And nofraud.com now redirects to Wyllo, the site that carries the vendor's products; the Shopify app still goes by NoFraud.

Standout features
  • Covers fraud chargebacks on approved orders
  • Human review on borderline orders
  • Free screening up to 100 orders a month
+Pros
  • ✓You stop making approve or decline calls
  • ✓Public pricing, no sales call needed
  • ✓Very well rated by Shopify merchants
−Cons
  • ✗$250 monthly minimum on guarantee plans
  • ✗Small stores sometimes turned down
  • ✗Built mainly for Shopify and BigCommerce
Verdict

Worth it once fraud losses already top $250 a month, or if you sell electronics, sneakers or gift cards. Below that, start with free screening and keep the money.

Best free plan for WooCommerce and Magento

FraudLabs Pro

4.0/5

FraudLabs Pro is rules plus a score. You install the plugin for your platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart, BigCommerce and more) and each order gets a score and a status: approve, review or reject. Then you layer your own validation rules: IP country different from card country, disposable email, too many orders from one device in an hour.

Price is where it shines. The Micro plan screens 500 orders a month for free as long as you sell under $25K a month, with 10 free SMS credits. That covers a lot of small stores. Mini moves you to 1,500 orders for $29.95 a month, about two cents per check. SMS verification is an add-on, and a mobile app lets you clear held orders from your phone.

The catch: FraudLabs Pro reimburses nothing and doesn't decide for you. You set the thresholds and you handle the review queue. Reviews also say the rules feel intimidating at first, and a few merchants complain about slow support. One WordPress.org user switched off SMS verification because it confused customers.

Standout features
  • 500 free checks a month (sales under $25K)
  • Plugins for WooCommerce, Magento, OpenCart
  • Clear held orders from the mobile app
+Pros
  • ✓Free plan covers many small stores
  • ✓Around $0.02 per order after that
  • ✓Works with any payment method
−Cons
  • ✗No chargeback guarantee
  • ✗Rules take time to tune
  • ✗Support quality is uneven in reviews
Verdict

Best value for a WooCommerce or Magento store under 500 orders a month. Run it in review mode for two weeks before you let the rules reject on their own.

4
Deepest tool for a fraud team

SEON

3.9/5

SEON works from a simple idea: fraudsters leave a thin digital footprint. It checks what exists around a customer's email and phone (social accounts, address age, data breaches), plus device fingerprint and IP. An email created yesterday with no linked accounts weighs heavily in the score. You build rules in a visual editor, and SEON suggests new ones based on your own cases.

For investigation it is the most complete tool on this list. You see why an order scored the way it did, link accounts that share a device, and spot a ring of fake sign-ups. It also covers promo abuse and fake accounts, not just stolen cards.

The catch is the entry price. Starter runs $699 a month for 2,500 checks, about $0.28 per check if you use them all. For a store with 300 orders a month that makes no sense. And SEON doesn't reimburse chargebacks: it helps you decide, it doesn't decide for you.

Standout features
  • Email and phone enrichment
  • Device fingerprint and IP analysis
  • Covers fake accounts and promo abuse
+Pros
  • ✓Every score is explained signal by signal
  • ✓Rule suggestions based on your data
  • ✓Free trial with no commitment
−Cons
  • ✗$699 a month before your first check
  • ✗No chargeback guarantee
  • ✗Needs someone to work the data
Verdict

Pick it when fraud has become a full-time job at your company, or when fake accounts and promo abuse cost you real money. For a young store, it's too early.

Best to build into your own checkout

MaxMind minFraud

3.8/5

MaxMind is best known for its IP geolocation database, which a huge share of the web relies on. minFraud sits on top of it: you send the order data (IP, email, address, card BIN) to its API and get a risk score back. There are three tiers. Score returns the number. Insights adds per-signal detail on IP, email and address. Factors tells you what pushed the score up or down.

It is pay per query, no subscription and no minimums: $0.005 for Score, $0.015 for Insights, $0.020 for Factors. For 1,000 orders on Insights, that's $15. You buy credits between $20 and $25,000, and the free trial covers up to 1,000 queries. A few platform integrations exist, but the tool really pays off with a developer on hand.

The catch: minFraud decides nothing until you configure it. From the Score tier up, custom rules can set each transaction to accept, reject or manual review, but you choose the thresholds. No human review from MaxMind, no guarantee.

Standout features
  • Pay per query, no subscription
  • Three levels of score detail
  • Backed by MaxMind's IP data
+Pros
  • ✓About $15 per 1,000 detailed checks
  • ✓Independent of your payment processor
  • ✓Trial up to 1,000 queries
−Cons
  • ✗Built for developers, not solo merchants
  • ✗You write the custom rules yourself
  • ✗No chargeback guarantee
Verdict

The right tool if you have a developer and a custom checkout. Start on Insights, see which signals light up on your real fraud, then drop to Score if the detail doesn't help.

Prevention and dispute recovery in one place

Chargeflow

3.7/5

Chargeflow made its name fighting chargebacks for you: it pulls the evidence (tracking, customer messages, order history) and answers the bank. You pay 25% of what it recovers, nothing if it loses. Prevent is its fraud screening layer: every transaction gets scored before fulfillment, so the order that would turn into a dispute never ships.

Everything is usage-based, no subscription, no contract. The first 1,000 transactions scanned by Prevent are free, then $0.10 each. Alerts, an add-on, intercepts a dispute before it becomes a chargeback, at $29 per deflected chargeback, with better rates above 50 alerts a month. The Insights dashboard is free forever.

The catch: past the free 1,000, the bill grows fast. At 3,000 orders a month, Prevent comes to $200. Chargeflow makes the most sense as a prevention plus recovery bundle, less as prevention alone.

Standout features
  • Dispute recovery paid on results
  • Prevent: 1,000 free scans
  • No subscription, no contract
+Pros
  • ✓You only pay for disputes it wins
  • ✓No credit card to start
  • ✓One tool to prevent and to fight
−Cons
  • ✗$0.10 per scan past 1,000
  • ✗No reimbursement on fraud it misses
  • ✗Most useful once disputes already hurt
Verdict

Go for it when disputes already eat hours every week. Turn on automated recovery first, see which orders come back, then switch on Prevent for the products that get hit most.

Real cost

A store with 1,000 orders a month: what you'd actually pay

List prices don't compare directly: one charges per check, one takes a share of revenue, one is a flat subscription. Take a store with 1,000 orders a month and a $40 average order, so $40,000 in sales. Figures are before tax and processing fees.

Pay per check: $5 to $50

Radar Standard pay as you go: 1,000 × $0.05 = $50, or a monthly plan from $10. MaxMind Insights: $15, or $5 on Score. FraudLabs Pro: Mini at $29.95 covers 1,500 orders; the free Micro plan doesn't apply here, since it stops at 500 queries and $25K in monthly sales. Chargeflow Prevent: $0, since the first 1,000 scans are free.

Pay for a guarantee: $400 to $600

NoFraud's guarantee plans take a share of revenue: $400 a month at 1% (covering up to $500 per order), $500 at 1.25% (up to $1,000), $600 at 1.50% (up to $2,000). That only makes sense if fraud already costs you that much. One $40 fraudulent order costs you the goods, the shipping, and a $15 Stripe dispute fee, plus another $15 if you counter it and lose. About seven of those a month and the 1% plan pays for itself.

Pay a subscription: $699 and up

SEON Starter runs $699 a month for 2,500 checks. At 1,000 orders, that's $0.70 per order with no guarantee. That's a fraud-team budget, not a small-store budget, and it pays off when fraud also hits your accounts and promo codes.
  • Add up six months of fraud chargebacks before you compare prices.
  • Count the dispute fee ($15 at Stripe in the US, plus $15 if you counter and lose) on top of every fraud loss.
  • Track declined good orders too: a declined customer rarely comes back.
  • Check that the tool scores every payment method you accept, not just cards.
Field tips

Six settings that catch more and decline less

What merchants keep repeating in app reviews and forums, and what most roundups skip. These work whatever tool you choose.

01

Use 3D Secure as a safety net, not a wall

Liability

When the cardholder's bank authenticates a payment through 3D Secure, fraud liability usually shifts to that bank. In Europe, PSD2 rules make strong authentication the norm, so if you ship to EU customers it matters. In the US it is optional, and forcing it on everyone costs conversions. The trick: request 3D Secure only on orders your tool flags. Radar Plus and Pro do this with Adaptive 3D Secure or a single rule.

Effect
Liability shift to the issuer
With Radar (Plus, Pro)
"Request 3DS" rule
02

Start in review mode before you block

False declines

A tool set too tight declines good orders, and you never see it: the customer just leaves. For two to four weeks, send risky orders to a review queue instead of declining them. Check which ones were really fraud. Only then let the tool auto-decline above a threshold your own numbers support.

Suggested run
2 to 4 weeks
Measure
Wrongly held orders
03

Flag every fraud so the model learns

Feedback

At Stripe, refunding a payment with the reason "fraudulent" adds the email and card fingerprint to the default blocklists and feeds the model. Plenty of merchants refund with no reason, and the same fraudster is back next week. Same logic with FraudLabs Pro, SEON and minFraud: every report sharpens the next score.

Effect

04

Look at the ship-to before the card

Signals

Most stolen-card orders share one detail: the parcel goes to a freight forwarder, a reshipper or an address with no link to billing. Several identical items, expedited shipping, a foreign card: that order deserves a look even with a decent score. Put those criteria into your rules instead of trusting the score alone.

Strong signal
Ship-to ≠ bill-to

05

On Shopify, use what's included first

Free

Shopify shows fraud indicators on every order from the Basic plan, and a risk recommendation (low, medium, high) on Grow and up or with Shopify Payments. US stores also get Shopify Protect: free chargeback protection on eligible Shop Pay orders through Shopify Payments, with a tracking number required within seven days. Check whether that already covers you before paying for an app.

Indicators
From the Basic plan

06

Keep shipping proof for every order

Disputes

Disputes are won on evidence: tracking number, proof of delivery, customer emails, order IP. Shopify Protect requires tracking within seven days; everywhere else, it's what wins a representment. Use signature on delivery above a certain order value and keep everything in one place.

Three questions to find yours

The big enterprise names (Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, Sift, Kount, ClearSale) publish no prices, so they can't be priced or compared and aren't ranked here. They start to make sense at several hundred thousand dollars a month in sales, when a negotiation is worth the time.

Two kinds of fraud this ranking only partly covers. Friendly fraud is a real customer who gets the order and then disputes the charge anyway ("I never received it", "I don't recognize this"). No scoring tool blocks it up front, because the buyer looks legitimate; what helps is shipping proof, clear billing descriptors, and dispute tools like Chargeflow. Account takeover is a fraudster logging into a real customer's account with stolen credentials to spend stored cards or loyalty points. It is caught at login, not at checkout: FraudLabs Pro includes ATO prevention from its Medium plan, and LexisNexis Risk Solutions (ThreatMetrix) is the enterprise name in that space, quote only. Below the enterprise threshold, these three questions are enough.

How do you take payments?

Stripe only: Radar, since it's already running. Shopify Payments: Shopify's own analysis and Protect, then NoFraud if fraud climbs. Several processors or PayPal on top: a processor-independent tool, FraudLabs Pro, minFraud or SEON.

How much does fraud cost you today?

Under $100 a month: stay on a free or pay-per-check tool. $100 to $250: FraudLabs Pro or Radar Plus with your own rules. Above $250 a month: a guarantee like NoFraud's starts paying for itself.

Who will handle it?

Nobody: pick a tool that decides for you (NoFraud guarantee) or default rules (Radar). You, an hour a week: FraudLabs Pro or Radar Plus. A developer: minFraud. A team: SEON.
  • Ask your processor for your account's dispute rate.
  • Confirm the tool installs on your platform without custom code.
  • Read the guarantee terms: cap per order, excluded products, shipping deadline.
  • Plan a settings review after the first month.
FAQ · 8 questions

Frequently asked questions

  • Is Stripe Radar free?

Partly. Radar Lite is included in Stripe's standard payments pricing at no extra charge. Radar Standard costs from $0.05 per screened transaction or $10 a month, with risk levels and default rules. Custom rules, manual review, Adaptive 3D Secure and the 0-99 risk score need Radar Plus (from $14 a month) or Pro (from $20).

  • Who pays when a fraudulent order turns into a chargeback?

You, in most cases: the sale is reversed and you pay the dispute fee ($15 per dispute received at Stripe in the US, plus $15 if you counter it, refunded if you win). The exceptions are a 3D Secure authenticated payment with liability shift, or a guarantee tool like NoFraud on an order it approved.

  • What's the best fraud prevention for a small Shopify store?

Start with Shopify's built-in fraud analysis, plus Shopify Protect if you're a US store on Shopify Payments. When fraud starts costing real money, NoFraud's free tier screens 100 orders a month, and its guarantee plans start at $250.

  • Signifyd or NoFraud?

NoFraud if you want to know the price upfront: its Shopify list starts at 1% of revenue with a $250 minimum. Signifyd charges a percentage of each approved order, which varies with your products, vertical, order volume and average ticket. In Shopify App Store reviews, NoFraud sits at 4.7 and Signifyd at 4.4.

  • Why don't Riskified, Forter or Signifyd show prices?

Their price depends on your volume, vertical and fraud rate, and they mostly sell to large retailers. Signifyd says it outright: exact pricing comes from an assessment of your chargeback losses and declines. Always ask for the percentage and the monthly minimum.

  • How do I know if my tool declines good customers?

Pull a month of blocked payments and contact a handful of those buyers, or compare your approval rate before and after setup. A jump in checkout abandonment right after a rule change is a clear warning. In Stripe, a wrongly blocked payment goes on the allowlist in one click.

  • Does 3D Secure stop all fraud?

No. It shifts fraud liability to the issuer when the bank authenticates the payment, but it does nothing for "item not received" claims, and liability rules vary by card brand and exemption. Use it selectively on flagged orders.

  • Can I use two fraud tools at once?

Yes, and many stores do: Radar at the processor level, plus an app like NoFraud or FraudLabs Pro at the order level. Just make sure only one of them auto-cancels orders, or you'll end up with conflicting decisions.
