What's the best Etsy SEO tool and toolkit for digital products?

Make it, get found, deliver it without getting copied, sell it elsewhere: what you actually need.

The short answer: you need two free tools before anything else. Canva to make your printables and templates, and eRank, the Etsy SEO tool that shows what buyers type. If your editable templates keep getting copied, move to JetTemplate from $3.90 a month. And once you have your own audience, Payhip lets you sell the same files for a 5% cut instead of roughly 10% on Etsy.

Digital products skip inventory and shipping, but they come with their own traps: five 20MB files per listing, a Canva license few people read, fixed fees that eat a $3 file, and copycats. We compared six tools on what they change for someone selling files, with their published prices and what sellers report. Making physical goods too? See our Etsy tools for makers.

How we scored

How we compared and scored

Most Etsy tool lists lump everything together: keywords, print on demand, shipping labels. A digital seller ships nothing and holds no stock. Their real problems sit elsewhere: making clean files fast, getting found among thousands of lookalike listings, delivering without getting copied, and keeping a margin on products priced at a few dollars. So we compared tools on those four jobs.

For each tool, we pulled plans, limits and trials from its official pricing page, then read seller feedback, worst first: misleading sales estimates, unwanted annual renewals, shared template links, listings pulled over copyright. For Etsy itself, we used its file limits, fees and rules on creativity and AI.

1
Best Etsy SEO tool for digital listings

eRank

4.4/5

Digital products live or die in search. In niches like digital planners or wall art printables, thousands of listings look alike, and your title plus 13 tags decide who gets the click. eRank shows the terms shoppers really type on Etsy, how crowded they are, and audits every listing for empty tags or titles that run too long.

The free plan covers the basics. Basic, at $5.99 a month ($65.99 a year), lifts the daily search caps, and Pro, at $9.99, raises those limits further. Under roughly 50 listings, plenty of sellers say free is enough.

The catch: the dashboard is dense, and it takes an hour to find your way around. It also won't tell you what to make. It helps you sell what you already made. Same score as in our Etsy SEO tools ranking, where it also comes first.

Standout features
  • Etsy keyword volume and competition
  • Listing audit (title, tags, attributes)
  • Competitor shop tracking
  • Free plan with no time limit
+Pros
  • ✓Useful free plan
  • ✓Basic at $5.99 a month, cheapest paid plan here
  • ✓Built only for Etsy
−Cons
  • ✗Busy interface at first
  • ✗Doesn't tell you what to create
  • ✗No sales or profit tracking
Verdict

The first Etsy SEO tool to install for any digital shop, and it's free. Upgrade to Basic only when the daily search cap actually gets in your way.

Best for making your files and templates

Canva

4.3/5

Most templates sold on Etsy are built in Canva, and many are delivered as Canva template links. It's the fastest way to lay out a planner, an invitation or a social media kit, and the buyer edits your template in their own free account.

What trips sellers up is the license. A design with Pro elements can only be sold as a template link, never as a flattened PDF or PNG. And you can't resell a single element dropped on a page. The free plan is enough to create and share template links. Pro, the paid plan, pays off for background removal, one-click resize and the full library.

The catch for sellers: Canva has no Etsy connection. Etsy won't accept a Canva link as a file, so you deliver a PDF with the link inside. And that link can be forwarded to ten friends. If copying is costing you sales, look at JetTemplate, right below.

Standout features
  • Template links buyers can edit
  • Letter and A4 in one project
  • One-click resize (Pro)
  • Full mobile editor
+Pros
  • ✓Free plan is enough to sell template links
  • ✓Learnable in an hour
  • ✓Buyers only need a free account
−Cons
  • ✗No Etsy connection
  • ✗Template links are easy to share
  • ✗Strict license rules on Pro elements
Verdict

The default design tool for printables and templates. Read the license before your first listing, and always deliver a PDF with the link, never the bare link.

3
Best for protected editable templates

JetTemplate

4.0/5

JetTemplate fixes Canva's biggest weakness: protection. Buyers get access to your template in an online editor, change their text and download their file, without ever touching your source file or a shareable link. You connect your Etsy shop and access goes out automatically after each sale. A demo editor lets shoppers try before they buy.

Pricing tracks your sales. You pay a $3.90 monthly minimum that includes 13 sold listings, then $0.30 per sold listing. An order with several templates in one listing counts once. At 50 sales a month, that's about $15 (our math). In one template seller's side-by-side of Canva, Corjl, Templett and JetTemplate, JetTemplate came out cheapest at 150 sales.

The catch: the editor is thinner than Canva (no line weight or rounded corners), and editing a design for a customer takes more clicks. Corjl, the better-known rival, has a richer editor, volume tiers and a 15-day trial, but doesn't publish readable prices.

Standout features
  • Direct Etsy connection
  • Demo editor for shoppers
  • Source file never delivered
  • Billed per sold listing, not per template
+Pros
  • ✓Cheapest template editor at equal volume
  • ✓15-day trial, no card
  • ✓Shields your designs from copying
−Cons
  • ✗Thinner editor than Canva
  • ✗Slower customer edits
  • ✗You pay $3.90 even in a zero-sale month
Verdict

The right move once your editable templates start getting copied or shared. Under 13 sales a month, it costs less than a coffee.

Best for selling off Etsy too

Payhip

4.0/5

Etsy brings buyers, but each US sale leaves 6.5% in transaction fees, 3% + $0.25 in payment processing and a $0.20 listing fee. When the buyer came from your own audience, you don't need to pay for that. Payhip gives you a file store in ten minutes, with automatic delivery, coupons, affiliates and email.

Every feature is on every plan. Only the cut changes. Free takes 5% per sale. Plus, at $29 a month, drops to 2% and breaks even around $967 in monthly sales (our math). Pro, at $99, takes nothing. Payhip also collects and remits VAT on digital sales to EU and UK buyers, and handles US and Canadian sales tax.

The catch: Payhip brings zero traffic. No audience, no sales. There's no Etsy sync either, so you manage two catalogs. Many sellers keep Etsy for discovery and Payhip for repeat buyers.

Standout features
  • Automatic file delivery
  • EU/UK VAT and US sales tax handled
  • Coupons, affiliates and email included
  • All features on the free plan
+Pros
  • ✓Complete free plan
  • ✓5% instead of roughly 10% on Etsy
  • ✓Sales tax handled for you
−Cons
  • ✗Brings no traffic
  • ✗No Etsy sync
  • ✗Stripe or PayPal fees on top
Verdict

The best companion to Etsy once you have your own audience. Start free, and only do the Plus math past $1,000 a month in sales.

Best for picking what to make

EverBee

3.7/5

With digital products, the risk isn't inventory. It's the hours spent on a product nobody buys. EverBee sits on top of Etsy search results and estimates monthly sales and revenue for each competing listing. In a few minutes you can see whether wedding planners outsell study planners.

Hobby is free but hides part of the sales data. Growth costs $24.99 a month or $299 a year, Business $69 a month ($828 a year). There's no free trial on paid plans, and sellers complain about annual renewals they didn't see coming.

The catch: the numbers are estimates, not real sales. Etsy doesn't publish per-listing sales, and the gaps are widest on new listings. It says nothing about your margin either. Use it to compare trends, never to forecast revenue.

Standout features
  • Estimated sales and revenue per listing
  • Extension that overlays Etsy search
  • Quick niche comparison
  • Data shown without leaving Etsy
+Pros
  • ✓Shows what sells in minutes
  • ✓Handy for comparing two niches
  • ✓Free Hobby plan to try
−Cons
  • ✗Shaky estimates on new listings
  • ✗No free trial on Growth
  • ✗Watch the annual renewals
Verdict

Great for choosing your next product, useless for running your shop. Take Growth monthly for one month, do your research, then cancel.

Best all-in-one store off Etsy

Sellfy

3.6/5

Sellfy is the other way off Etsy: a full store with your own domain, email marketing, coupons and even print on demand. It takes no commission on sales, just the subscription and Stripe or PayPal fees.

The trap is the caps. Starter costs $22 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly), but only up to $10,000 in sales a year. Past that, you move to Business at $59 billed yearly or pay 2% on the overage. Our full Sellfy review walks through the math.

Against Payhip, there's no free plan, so it suits a creator with steady sales more than someone testing the waters.

Standout features
  • No commission on sales
  • Email and coupons included
  • Built-in print on demand
  • Custom domain
+Pros
  • ✓0% commission
  • ✓14-day trial
  • ✓Everything in one tool
−Cons
  • ✗No free plan
  • ✗$10,000 yearly cap on Starter
  • ✗No Etsy sync
Verdict

A solid exit store for an established creator. To test selling off Etsy, free Payhip costs less.

Your real fees

What does one file really earn you?

Digital products have no materials and no postage. What's left is Etsy's fees, and they hit small prices hard because part of them is fixed. In the US, each sale pays 6.5% in transaction fees and 3% + $0.25 in payment processing, and each listing costs $0.20 every time it's listed or renewed.

Example (our math): a printable sold for $5. Transaction: $0.33. Processing: $0.40. Renewal: $0.20. Total: about $0.93, or 19% of the price, before income tax. The same math on a $15 bundle comes to about $1.88, or 12.5%. Bundles aren't just a bigger ticket. They spread the fixed fees.

Then add your subscriptions. EverBee Growth at $24.99 a month equals the Etsy fees on about 27 of those $5 printables. A subscription stays only if it earns more than it costs, month after month.

  • Your Canva link ships inside a PDF, never bare
  • You've checked the license on every font and element
  • You offer at least one bundle to spread fixed fees

Tips

Six seller tips you won't read elsewhere

They come from Etsy's help pages, vendor docs and threads from people who sell files. Most cost nothing.

01

Zip your files to beat the five-file limit

Free

Etsy takes five files per listing, 20MB each. A ZIP counts as one file no matter what's inside, so a 40-page planner can ship as a single file as long as the ZIP stays under 20MB. Past that, split it into part 1 and part 2.

To cut weight, export posters as high-quality JPGs instead of PNGs, which often top 20MB at 18x24. And always test the download from a second account before you publish.

5 files
Max size
20MB each
02

Deliver Canva links in a PDF with instructions

License

Etsy only delivers files. For a Canva template, make a one-page PDF: the template link, three lines of instructions ("click, then Use template") and both Letter and A4 sizes. US buyers print on Letter, everyone else on A4, and offering both heads off a chunk of support messages.

Make sure you share a template link, not an edit link. Otherwise your first buyer edits your master.

Start with Etsy's 15 free searches

Free

In Shop Manager, the Stats tab opens Marketplace Insights: 15 keyword searches a week, with Etsy's own data. It's free and more reliable than any outside estimate.

Save those 15 for your main listings and use eRank for the rest. Etsy Plus, at $10 a month, makes the searches unlimited.

04

Take EverBee for one month, billed monthly

Savings

Niche research comes in waves, when you plan a new line. Take Growth monthly ($24.99), do all your research in four weeks, then cancel. Over a year, that's $274 less than the $299 annual plan.

Write down the renewal date the day you buy. There's no free trial, and sellers report annual renewals they'd forgotten about.

05

Keep proof of every design

Protection

File sellers describe the same scene: a design copied and sold cheaper, images resurfacing on other marketplaces, sometimes a copyright claim filed by the copycat to take the original down. Your defense is proof you made it first.

Keep dated source files, sketches and in-between versions. Add a light watermark to listing photos. For editable templates, a protected editor like JetTemplate keeps buyers away from your source file.

Cost
$0
06

Bundle to spread the fixed fees

Margin

The $0.25 processing fee and $0.20 listing fee are paid once per order and per listing, whatever the price. On a $3 file they hurt; on a $15 bundle, much less.

Keep single files to rank for specific searches, and build a "complete collection" bundle for each line. Link the two in every description.

FAQ · 8 questions

Etsy tools for digital products · FAQ

  • What is the best free Etsy SEO tool for digital products?
eRank's free plan plus Etsy's own Marketplace Insights. Insights gives you 15 real Etsy keyword searches a week from Shop Manager, and eRank covers the rest: competition, listing audits and tag ideas. Together they cost nothing and beat most paid tools for a shop under 50 listings.
  • How many files can you upload to an Etsy digital listing?
Five files per listing, 20MB max each. To deliver more, zip them: a ZIP can hold as many files as you like, but the ZIP itself must stay under 20MB. A poster at print resolution blows past that as a PNG, so export a high-quality JPG or a compressed PDF.
  • Can you sell Canva templates on Etsy?
Yes, if the design is really yours. A template that uses Pro elements can only be sold as a template link, not as a flattened file. Etsy won't take a Canva link as a file, so deliver a one-page PDF with the link and short instructions. Never resell a standalone Canva element.
  • How do you stop people copying your Etsy digital products?
You can't stop all copying, but you can slow it down. Editors like JetTemplate or Corjl give buyers access to the template without the source file. Watermark your listing images lightly. And keep dated source files: in a dispute, they prove you made it first.
  • Is EverBee or eRank better for digital products?
They answer different questions. EverBee estimates what competing listings sell, so it helps you decide what to make. eRank finds the keywords and fixes your listings, so it helps you sell what you made. Start with free eRank; add EverBee for a month when you plan a new product line.
  • Can you sell AI-generated digital products on Etsy?
Yes, if your creative direction is real and you disclose it. Etsy files these items under "designed by" and asks you to mention AI use in the listing. Selling bare prompts is banned. Keep a trail of your work (sketches, versions) in case a listing gets flagged.
  • Gumroad or Payhip for selling files outside Etsy?
Payhip is cheaper from your first sale. Gumroad takes 10% + $0.50 per direct sale, and 30% on sales its Discover marketplace brings you. Payhip's free plan takes 5% and also handles EU VAT. Gumroad's edge is a bigger built-in buyer community.
  • How much should you charge for a printable on Etsy?
Don't go under about $4 to $5 for a single file. On a $5 printable, Etsy fees take roughly $0.93 in the US, close to a fifth of the price. Bundles of 5 or 10 files at $10 to $20 keep far more, because the fixed $0.25 and $0.20 are only paid once.
