What are the best Etsy seller tools for makers?
Cost of goods, supplies, printing, shipping: what you actually need on top of Etsy.
The short answer: if you make your products yourself, your first tool is not an Etsy SEO tool. It's the one that tells you what each piece really costs you. Start with a free spreadsheet, then move to Stocksmith (formerly Craftybase) once recipes and supplies get out of hand. If you have your designs printed, pick Printful for consistency or Printify for margin. For postage, Shippo gives you discounted labels with a free plan up to 30 labels a month.
This page sits next to our ranking of Etsy SEO tools: there we cover keywords and tags, here we cover the workshop. We compared six tools on what they change for a maker selling on Etsy, using their published pricing and what sellers say about them.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its entry, and no affiliate link changes a score.

How we compared and scored
Almost every list of Etsy tools is about keywords. But makers lose more money on pricing than on tags. They count materials, forget their time and Etsy's fees, and sell at a loss without noticing. So we compared tools on the real problems of a workshop: working out cost of goods, knowing what supplies are left, producing without stock, and shipping without mistakes.
For each tool, we pulled plans, limits and trials from its official pricing page, then read seller reviews, starting with the worst ones: duplicate Etsy listings after a reconnection, mockups that never reached Etsy, trials billed after cancellation, price hikes. For Etsy itself, we read its help center on fees and international shipping. Keyword tools aren't scored here; they have their own ranking.

Stocksmith (formerly Craftybase)
If you were searching for a Craftybase alternative, you may not need one: Craftybase became Stocksmith in 2026. Same team, same software, and the old domain redirects. It's the only tool on this list built for people who make things. You enter a recipe (this much wax, this much wick, this much fragrance, this many minutes), and Stocksmith works out the cost of every unit. Each sale pulls the materials out of your inventory. Etsy fees come in as expenses, and you get reports ready for tax time.
Price is the catch. There's no free plan. Pro starts at $20 a month billed yearly, for a single sales channel. Studio, at $49 a month ($41 yearly), unlocks unlimited channels and extra users. Indie, at $99 ($83 yearly), handles 1,000 order lines a month and adds bills of materials, batches and production planning. Paying yearly saves about 17%.
Skip it if you sell fewer than twenty or so pieces a month: a well-kept spreadsheet does the same math for free. The trick: the 14-day trial doesn't need a card. Use it to enter your five main recipes. Even if you don't buy, you walk away with an accurate cost of goods.
- Unit cost from your recipes
- Materials deducted on every sale
- Etsy fees imported as expenses
- Tax-ready reports
- ✓The only tool built for handmade
- ✓14-day trial with no card
- ✓Multiple sales channels from Studio
- ✗No free plan
- ✗Pro is limited to one channel
- ✗Multiple channels only from Studio ($49)
The best tool to stop selling at a loss once your shop is moving. Until then, a spreadsheet works: switch when updating it eats more time than making things.
Printful
Printful prints in its own facilities, and that's what sets it apart. Other services hand your order to a partner printer; Printful keeps production in house. Sellers pick it for consistency: the same shirt or mug comes out the same way, order after order. The free plan gives you 593 products, unlimited stores, the design maker and the mockup generator. Growth, at $24.99 a month, cuts product prices by up to 33% and becomes free once you pass $12,000 in yearly sales.
The downside is base cost, which runs higher than Printify. Your margin is thinner, especially on small items. Reviews are solid overall (4.2 out of 5 on a large review site, with nearly 8,000 reviews), but one Etsy seller reports that not all mockups made it to the listing and had to be added by hand. Others mention late parcels and import fees billed by the carrier.
Not for you if you sell things you make by hand: Printful prints your designs. The trick: order a sample before you publish. Samples are 20% off on the free plan and 25% off on Growth, one sample order a month, up to three items.
- Printed in its own facilities
- 593 products on the free plan
- Mockup generator included
- Discounted monthly samples
- ✓Consistent quality across orders
- ✓Full-featured free plan
- ✓Growth is free past $12,000 in sales
- ✗Higher base prices than Printify
- ✗Mockups sometimes missing on Etsy
- ✗Delays and import fees in reviews
The low-stress pick for makers selling their designs. You pay a bit more per piece for quality that won't earn you bad reviews.
Printify
Printify doesn't own any print shops. It's a marketplace that routes your order to one of its partner printers, which is why its base prices are among the lowest. You pick the print provider product by product, based on price, speed and location. The free plan is enough to launch. Premium, at $39 a month or $24.99 a month billed yearly, lowers product costs and pays for itself once you sell steadily.
The flip side is quality, which depends on the provider. One seller sums it up on a big review site: "some of your printers and shippers are far, far better than others". Another says a forced store reconnection published duplicate Etsy listings, costing about $35 in listing fees. Printify still rates well (4.4 out of 5 on the same site), but it needs more babysitting than Printful.
Skip it if you don't want to compare print providers yourself. The trick: after every Etsy connection or reconnection, open your Shop Manager and look for duplicates before they cost you fees. Then order your best seller from two providers and keep the better one.
- Choose the print provider per product
- Some of the lowest base prices
- Premium at $24.99/mo billed yearly
- ✓Best margin on printed products
- ✓Free plan with no time limit
- ✓Wide choice of providers and countries
- ✗Quality varies by provider
- ✗Duplicate Etsy listings reported after reconnecting
- ✗More oversight than Printful

Shippo
Shippo is one of the shipping services Etsy's own help center points sellers to. It pulls in your Etsy orders, compares carrier rates, and prints the label in a couple of clicks. The free Starter plan covers up to 30 labels a month with access to all carriers, which is plenty for most small handmade shops. Pro starts at $17 a month for 1 to 200 labels, then scales with volume up to $199, with 10% off for yearly billing.
Two catches. On the free plan, labels printed with your own carrier accounts cost $0.05 each, and support is email only. And some sellers report referral credits that never showed up. None of it is a deal breaker, but read the plan details before you wire in your own carrier account.
Skip it if you ship a handful of orders a month: Etsy's own labels do the job. The trick: if you sell internationally, add the HS tariff code to your product records once. Etsy requires it on labels to the EU (6 digits) and the US (10 digits), and US-bound parcels must ship duties paid for purchase protection to apply. To weigh it against the European option, read Shippo vs Sendcloud.
- Etsy orders imported automatically
- Free up to 30 labels a month
- Listed in Etsy's help center
- ✓Real free plan for small shops
- ✓Rates from many carriers side by side
- ✓Pro pricing scales by label volume
- ✗$0.05 per own-account label on free
- ✗Email-only support on free
- ✗Referral credits reported missing
A sensible upgrade once shipping becomes a daily chore. The free plan covers most small makers; upgrade only when you pass 30 labels a month.
Sortly
Sortly isn't an Etsy tool, and that's the point. It's an inventory app: snap a photo of your bead boxes, thread spools or wax bags, sort them by shelf, stick a QR label on each bin, and see at a glance what's left. The free plan tracks up to 100 unique items, whatever the quantity of each, for one user. For a small studio, that's often enough.
The limit is plain: Sortly doesn't know Etsy exists. It doesn't deduct anything when you sell, and it doesn't calculate cost of goods. You update quantities by hand. Advanced lists at $49 a month, discounted to $24 a month for the first year on yearly billing, and the trial needs a card.
Not for you if you want stock to drop automatically with every order; that's Stocksmith's job. The trick: use Sortly for supplies you reorder often, and set a minimum quantity on each item. Before your monthly wholesale order, one pass through the app tells you what to buy.
- Photos and QR labels for every supply
- 100 free items, unlimited quantities
- Simple mobile app
- ✓Free plan fits a small studio
- ✓Up and running in minutes
- ✓Works beyond Etsy (craft fairs, markets)
- ✗No Etsy connection
- ✗No cost-of-goods math
- ✗Trial requires a card
The easiest way to stop running out of supplies. For pricing, you'll still need a spreadsheet or Stocksmith.
Katana
Katana is manufacturing software: bills of materials, production orders, raw-material tracking and purchasing in one place. It's what a candle brand with three employees and wholesale accounts looks at when Stocksmith starts to feel small. The free plan covers up to 30 SKUs, enough to see whether the logic fits how you work. Paid plans start with Core, from $299 a month.
That price is the first catch for a solo maker. The second is Etsy: Katana has no native Etsy connector, so orders come in through an automation tool such as Make or Zapier. Reviews on its app listing are good overall (4.0 out of 5 across 134 reviews), but recent ones call the pricing misleading, with locations and batch tracking sold as paid add-ons. One six-year customer left after a switch to order-based pricing that hurt small makers with low-priced products.
Skip it if you work alone: you'd pay about fifteen times Stocksmith Pro for features you won't use. The trick: if you do grow into it, test your Etsy flow through Make's Etsy integration on the free plan before you commit.
- Bills of materials and production orders
- Raw-material tracking
- Free for up to 30 SKUs
- ✓Real manufacturing logic
- ✓Free plan to explore the workflow
- ✓Scales with a team
- ✗Core starts at $299 a month
- ✗No native Etsy connector
- ✗Paid add-ons and pricing changes in reviews
Overkill for a solo maker, the right step for a studio with staff and wholesale orders. Budget for the automation tool on top.
How much does one piece really earn you?
Before picking a tool, do this math once by hand. Your cost of goods is materials, packaging, your time and Etsy's fees. Most makers only count materials. It's the most common mistake, and the most expensive one.
Example (our math): a candle that sells for $30 with shipping included, from a US bank account. Materials: $4. Packaging: $1. Thirty minutes of work at $15 an hour: $7.50. Etsy fees: a 6.5% transaction fee ($1.95) plus 3% + $0.25 for payment processing ($1.15), so $3.10. You're left with $14.40, before actual postage, listing fees, taxes and overhead (electricity, tools, subscriptions). If the parcel costs you $6 to send, you're down to $8.40.
A common starting rule: multiply your unit cost by 2 for wholesale and by 3 for retail. Redo the math two or three times a year, whenever suppliers change their prices.
Under twenty sales a month
A spreadsheet is enough. One row per product, one column per material, plus your time and Etsy fees. Add free Sortly if you want photo-based supply tracking. Cost: $0.
A shop that's moving
Stocksmith from $20 a month billed yearly, so every sale pulls materials from stock. Move to Studio the day you also sell on another channel, like your own site.
You sell printed designs
Printful or Printify, both free to start. Your cost of goods is the provider's base price, shipping and Etsy fees. Upgrading to Growth or Premium is simple math: it pays off when the discount beats the subscription.
- Your time is in the price, at a realistic hourly rate
- Etsy fees are calculated on the total, shipping included
- Packaging and labels are in every unit cost
- You know your real postage cost, not just what the buyer pays
- You've noted the end date of every free trial
- You redo the math when a supplier raises prices

Tips
Use Etsy's custom order steps before paying for a tool
FreeFor custom orders, Etsy lets you create your own order steps in Shop Manager, like "Waiting on materials" or "In production". Buyers don't see them, but you know where every piece stands. You can also act on several orders at once and print labels in bulk.
As long as you juggle fewer than ten custom orders at a time, that replaces a Trello or Notion board. Beyond that, Notion or Airtable, fed by Etsy through Make, takes over.

Start with a spreadsheet, switch at the right time
FreeEven Stocksmith's own team says a spreadsheet works for a small shop. What matters is updating your costs every month. The right time to switch is when you sell on two channels, or when keeping the sheet current takes more than an hour a week.
When you do switch, use the no-card 14-day trial to enter your recipes. It's the slowest part of the setup, and the numbers are yours to keep even if you stay on the spreadsheet.

Order a sample before every new printed product
QualityA mockup tells you nothing about how a color holds up or how a fabric feels. Printful discounts samples by 20% on the free plan and 25% on Growth, one order a month up to three items. On Printify, order the same product from two providers: the quality gap can be obvious.
Keep your samples for photos. A real photo of your product beats a generated mockup and sets you apart from shops selling the same blank.
- Printful discount
- 20% (free), 25% (Growth)
Check your shop after every print-on-demand connection
TrapSellers report two recurring problems. On Printify, a forced reconnection published duplicate listings and about $35 in listing fees. On Printful, not every mockup made it to the Etsy listing.
After each connection, open your active listings, sort by date and look for duplicates. Check that every listing has all its photos. Ten minutes now saves you fees and half-finished listings later.
- Cost of missing it
- About $35 in fees
Remove backgrounds, but set a reminder before the trial ends
TrapBackground removal apps like Photoroom save hours on white-background shots, and their cutouts get a lot of praise. But the angriest reviews are almost all about billing: trials charged after cancellation and AI credits that vanished. On a big review site, Photoroom sits at 2.2 out of 5, with 71% one-star reviews.
If you start a trial, set a reminder two days before it ends. And keep at least one photo taken in your workshop, with your hands or tools in frame: that's the shot that proves it's handmade. To generate visuals with AI, see our ranking of AI image generators for ecommerce.

Sort out international shipping before your first overseas order
ShippingEtsy's help center is clear on two points. Labels to the EU and the US need an HS tariff code (6 digits for the EU, 10 for the US). And parcels to the US must ship duties paid, or Etsy's purchase protection doesn't apply.
Look up the code for your best sellers once and save it in your product records. When an overseas order lands, you just print.

Etsy tools for makers · FAQ
How do I price handmade items on Etsy?
Add up materials, packaging, your time and Etsy's fees, then multiply. A common rule is unit cost times 2 for wholesale and times 3 for retail. Don't skip your time: thirty minutes at $15 an hour is $7.50 per piece. Stocksmith automates the math from your recipes, from $20 a month billed yearly. Is Craftybase worth it now that it's Stocksmith?
Yes, once you sell steadily or on more than one channel. Craftybase became Stocksmith in 2026 with the same team and software. There's no free plan, but the 14-day trial needs no card. Below about twenty sales a month, a spreadsheet does the same job for free. What's the best inventory software for Etsy makers?
Stocksmith if you need materials deducted on every sale and real cost of goods. Sortly if you only want to count supplies: it's free for 100 items but has no Etsy sync. Katana fits workshops with staff, from $299 a month, and connects to Etsy only through Make or Zapier. Can I sell print on demand on Etsy?
Yes, and Printful, Printify and Gelato all connect to Etsy for it. The design must be yours, and Etsy covers outside manufacturing in its handmade rules. Read them in Etsy's help center before your first listing, then describe honestly who does what: you design, the printer produces.Which Etsy fees belong in a handmade item's cost?
Count them on the order total, shipping included, not just the item price: a 6.5% transaction fee plus 3% + $0.25 for payment processing with a US bank account. On a $30 candle that's $3.10 (our math), more than the wick and packaging combined. Add the listing fee every time a listing renews. What's the best way to track custom orders?
Etsy's own custom order steps, first. You create stages like "Waiting on materials" or "In production", hidden from buyers, and update several orders at once. Past ten open custom orders, a Notion or Airtable board fed through Make becomes easier to manage.Do I need to pay duties on Etsy orders to the US?
If you ship from outside the US, yes: Etsy requires US-bound parcels to ship duties paid for purchase protection to apply. Labels to the US also need a 10-digit HS tariff code.Do makers need an Etsy SEO tool too?
One is enough. eRank has a free plan and Basic costs $5.99 a month, and Etsy's free Marketplace Insights gives you 15 real searches a week. Our Etsy SEO tools ranking compares them in detail.
