What's the best rank tracking software in 2026?

The right pick comes down to how many keywords you track, and how fast you need to see them move.

A rank tracker checks where your site shows up on Google for a list of keywords you pick, every day or every week. It searches from a fixed city and device, so you get a clean number instead of the personalized results you see in your own browser. In 2026 accuracy is no longer what separates the good tools. What does: the price of 1,000 tracked keywords, how often positions refresh, and whether the tool sees Google's AI Overviews.

The short answer: go with SE Ranking for daily tracking plus audits and keyword research in one plan. Pick Monitorank if you only want rank tracking and like paying per keyword: €40 a month (before VAT) for 1,000 of them. AccuRanker is built for agencies tracking thousands of keywords that need an on-demand refresh before a client call.

Already paying for Semrush or Ahrefs? Their trackers often do the job, with one catch at Ahrefs: rankings update weekly by default. And Google Search Console is free and essential, but it is not a rank tracker.

Semrush and Ahrefs keep the score and prices from their Labs reviews, which rate the whole SEO suite. The rank only judges rank tracking, so a suite with a strong score can sit low on this list. Other prices come from each vendor's official page in 2026.

How we scored

How we compared and scored

The roundups that rank on Google list ten to seventeen tools, and many repeat the same prices from one site to the next. None of them works out what 1,000 tracked keywords cost at each vendor, and few mention that Ahrefs refreshes rankings once a week by default. That is what drives your bill and how quickly you spot a drop.

We read the official pricing pages, the help docs on update frequency, and user reviews, with a focus on the negative ones. A tool only made the list if we could read its price on its own site. Wincher is out because its pricing page shows no readable amounts. Nightwatch only showed us euro prices with no US dollar amount, and BrightLocal lists its plans as price on request, so neither is ranked. We didn't check Pro Rank Tracker's prices, so it isn't ranked either.

The rank judges rank tracking alone. Semrush and Ahrefs keep the score from their Labs reviews, which cover the entire suite.

Best for most people

SE Ranking

4.5/5

SE Ranking is the name that keeps coming up when SEOs ask for solid rank tracking without Semrush pricing. The entry plan, Core, tracks 2,000 keywords every day for $129 a month, or $103.20 billed yearly. That's four times the keywords of the $199 Semrush Starter plan in our review, for less money.

It tracks desktop and mobile, down to city level, plus Google Maps and 37+ SERP features, AI Overviews and AI Mode included. So you see whether your page gets cited in the AI answer, not just where your blue link lands. Site audits, keyword research and competitor analysis come in the same plan.

The downsides users point to: prices have gone up, the interface changes a lot, and support takes heat in several negative reviews. One reviewer also saw mobile rankings lag a day or two behind a live search.

Tip: the 14-day trial needs no card and covers 750 keywords. Load your real keywords and check them against Search Console before you pay.

Standout features
  • 2,000 keywords daily on Core
  • Tracks AI Overviews and AI Mode
  • 14-day trial, no card
+Pros
  • ✓Best keyword volume per dollar among suites
  • ✓Local, mobile and Google Maps
  • ✓Audits and research included
−Cons
  • ✗Prices went up
  • ✗Interface changes often
  • ✗Support criticized in reviews
Verdict

The best pick if you want daily tracking and an SEO toolkit at a fair price. If tracking is all you need, Monitorank costs far less.

Best on a budget

Monitorank

4.3/5

Monitorank is a French tool that does one thing: track rankings. There's a single plan and you set the keyword count. The calculator on its pricing page comes out at €40 a month before VAT for 1,000 keywords checked daily, and €22.08 for 500. The per-keyword price drops as you add more, up to 1,000.

Everyone gets the same access: competitors tracked in the same view, plus the API and the Looker Studio connector. It covers Google, Google Maps, YouTube and Bing, on desktop and mobile, from the city you choose. It also tracks your presence in AI Overviews: brand citations, your link among the sources, and the side panel.

The limit: no site audit, no keyword research, no backlink data. It also checks the top 50 results; the top 100 costs 30% more.

Tip: the 10 free keywords stay free forever, and you get 100 more for your first month. That's enough to watch your core terms without ever paying.

Standout features
  • Per-keyword pricing, no tiers
  • API and Looker Studio included
  • Tracks AI Overviews
+Pros
  • ✓Cheapest at 1,000 keywords
  • ✓10 keywords free forever
  • ✓Competitors in the same view
−Cons
  • ✗No audit or keyword research
  • ✗Top 100 costs 30% more
  • ✗Prices in euros only
Verdict

The best value if you already have SEO tools and just need daily tracking. If you want everything in one plan, SE Ranking goes further.

Best for agencies

AccuRanker

4.2/5

AccuRanker is a dedicated rank tracker known for speed. Rankings update daily, and you can trigger a manual refresh, on one keyword or all of them, once the last update is more than two hours old. Right before a client call, that's handy.

The entry plan, Professional, costs €224 a month for 2,000 keywords, with no lock-in and 10% off on yearly billing. Expert runs €764 a month for 10,000 keywords and up. Its pricing page only lists euros. Keyword for keyword, it costs more than SE Ranking, and there's no audit or keyword research.

What users like: speed, accuracy and responsive support. What they don't: the bill climbs quickly with volume, and the advanced features sit on the higher plans.

Tip: only put the keywords tied to revenue in AccuRanker. Let Search Console cover the long tail.

Standout features
  • On-demand refresh
  • Daily updates
  • Built for many sites and clients
+Pros
  • ✓Very fast
  • ✓Support praised by users
  • ✓Clean client reporting
−Cons
  • ✗Expensive from the start
  • ✗No audit or keyword research
  • ✗No trial listed on the pricing page
Verdict

The pick for agencies whose reports live on ranking data. For a small business, SE Ranking or Monitorank is plenty.

Best for unlimited keywords

SEO PowerSuite Rank Tracker

4.0/5

SEO PowerSuite's Rank Tracker is the odd one out here: it's software you install, not a web app. That changes the math. Professional costs $179 a year and Enterprise $419 a year, and both allow unlimited keywords and unlimited sites. Competitors are capped at 5 per project on Professional and 10 on Enterprise.

It shows up in US roundups as the budget pick for exactly that reason. For an agency tracking thousands of keywords, a yearly flat fee beats per-keyword pricing by a wide margin.

The trade-off: it's an installed app (the vendor's setup guide is for Windows), billed yearly only. Users describe it as very cost-effective, with the install as the price you pay.

Tip: start with the free version on your own keywords before paying for a year. If you need checks running while your computer is off, a cloud tool will fit better.

Standout features
  • Unlimited keywords
  • Flat yearly fee
  • Free version to try
+Pros
  • ✓Cheapest at large volumes
  • ✓Unlimited sites
  • ✓No per-keyword math
−Cons
  • ✗Installed software, not a web app
  • ✗Billed yearly only
  • ✗Not a web dashboard
Verdict

The budget answer for big keyword lists if you're fine with desktop software. For a cloud tool with no setup, SE Ranking is the safer pick.

Best inside a full suite

Semrush

4.2/5

Semrush keeps the 4.2 out of 5 from our review, which rates the whole suite. Its Position Tracking tool is solid: unpersonalized rankings by city, device and language, with competitors and SERP features in the same view. Data refreshes every 24 to 48 hours.

The catch is volume. The $199 Starter plan in our review tracks 500 keywords. For 1,000, you move to Pro+ at $299 for 1,500. So you're mostly paying for keyword research, audits and competitive data, not for tracking.

Its limit for this job: at our review's prices, one of the highest costs per tracked keyword on the list. Users say they switched from Semrush to SE Ranking for that reason and for unlimited projects.

Tip: if you already pay for Semrush, track your 500 most important keywords there and the rest in Monitorank. You avoid upgrading just for tracking.

Standout features
  • Unpersonalized tracking by city and device
  • Competitors in the same view
  • Tied to keyword research
+Pros
  • ✓The deepest SEO suite
  • ✓Rich competitive data
  • ✓7-day free trial
−Cons
  • ✗500 keywords for $199
  • ✗Updates every 24 to 48 hours
  • ✗Pricey for tracking alone
Verdict

Good tracking if you already pay for Semrush. For tracking alone, it's the most expensive option here.

Best for links and competitors

Ahrefs

4.3/5

Ahrefs keeps the score from our review. It lands low on this list because Rank Tracker updates weekly by default on every plan. The Project Boost Max add-on ($200 a month per project) is pitched as daily, but Ahrefs' help pages disagree on that, so get it confirmed in writing before paying.

Lite, at $129 a month, tracks 750 keywords. Rank Tracker doesn't burn credits, unlike most Ahrefs tools. Ahrefs Free, for sites you own, doesn't include Rank Tracker, but Starter, at $29 a month, does, for 50 keywords only.

Its strength: tying a ranking drop to a lost link or a rising competitor, in one tool. Its limit: weekly data won't cut it when you're watching a Google core update day by day.

Tip: during a core update, watch your key pages in Search Console, which updates daily, instead of buying the daily add-on for a month.

Standout features
  • Rank Tracker uses no credits
  • Tied to backlinks and competitors
  • Clear interface
+Pros
  • ✓Best-known backlink data
  • ✓Rank Tracker from $29 on Starter
  • ✓Simple setup
−Cons
  • ✗Weekly updates by default
  • ✗Daily add-on: confirm in writing
  • ✗750 keywords on Lite
Verdict

The right call if links matter more than today's position. For daily tracking, SE Ranking does more for less.

The free must-have

Google Search Console

3.7/5

Search Console is Google's free tool. The Performance report shows clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for every query and page. This is real data from real searches.

It is not a rank tracker, though. Average position blends every country, device and day in the range: if you go from 1st to 5th across two days with equal traffic, it shows 3. Rare queries are hidden for privacy, and exports from the interface stop at 1,000 rows. It doesn't track competitors either.

Why last: it answers a different question. It tells you what earns clicks; a rank tracker tells you where you rank, in a specific place.

Tip: filter by country and device before you read any position. Without filters, the average barely means anything.

Standout features
  • Real clicks and impressions
  • Free, straight from Google
  • Shows queries you don't track yet
+Pros
  • ✓Free
  • ✓Real data, not simulated
  • ✓Surfaces new keywords
−Cons
  • ✗Misleading average position
  • ✗No competitor tracking
  • ✗Exports capped at 1,000 rows
Verdict

Essential, but as a companion. To follow a keyword list day after day, pick one of the tools above.

Real cost

What rank tracking really costs, and what it measures

This is the part most roundups gloss over. Before you choose, three questions matter more than the feature list: what your keyword volume costs, how often rankings refresh, and why they never match Search Console.

Price at the same volume

Compare the price for the keywords you actually need, not the headline price. For 1,000 keywords tracked daily: €40 a month at Monitorank, $129 at SE Ranking (which covers 2,000), €224 at AccuRanker (2,000 too). At Semrush, our review's $199 Starter plan covers 500, and Pro+ at $299 covers 1,500. At Ahrefs, Lite covers 750, refreshed weekly.

Refresh rate

SE Ranking, Monitorank and AccuRanker check daily, and AccuRanker lets you refresh manually every two hours. Semrush updates within 24 to 48 hours. Ahrefs, weekly by default. Weekly is fine for a site that rarely publishes; it isn't during a core update.

Why your tracker and Search Console disagree

A tracker records your best position for a keyword, from a fixed city and device, at a set time. Search Console averages every real impression across all countries and devices, weighted by impressions. Neither is wrong: compare trends, not single numbers.
  • Count your keywords before picking a plan: they set the price.
  • Check which refresh rate is included without an add-on.
  • Set the city and device that matter to you, not the defaults.
  • Add three to five competitors when you create the project.
  • Check whether the tool tracks AI Overviews for your keywords.
  • Reconcile your tracker and Search Console monthly, filtered to the same country.
Setup that matters

Six settings for rank tracking that actually means something

A badly configured tracker gives you comforting, wrong charts. Here's what changes the quality of your data, whatever tool you use.

01

Track the right city, not just the country

Day one

For a local business, your ranking in Austin has little to do with your national ranking. SE Ranking, Monitorank and Semrush all go down to city level. Set up one tracker per area where you have customers.

Precision
City level
02

Split mobile and desktop

Day one

Google shows different results on a phone. If most of your traffic is mobile, that's the ranking to watch. Every paid tool on this list handles it.

Track first
Your visitors' device
03

Group your keywords

Organization

An average across 1,000 keywords hides everything. Tag them by page, product or intent (buying, learning). After an update, you'll see which group dropped instead of a flat line.

Group by
Page, product or intent
04

Add competitors on day one

Organization

History can't be backfilled. Add a competitor after six months and you only get their data from that day on. Add them when you create the project, whichever tool you pick.

05

Track AI Overviews on your keywords

2026

Ranking first under an AI answer isn't worth what it used to be. SE Ranking and Monitorank show whether an AI Overview appears and whether you're cited. Monitorank found that nearly one AI Overview in two loads after the page itself: a tool that doesn't wait misses it.

FAQ · 8 questions

Rank tracking software · FAQ

  • Is Google Search Console enough for rank tracking?
No, not on its own. It gives an average position across every country and device, hides rare queries, and doesn't track competitors. Use it for real clicks, and a rank tracker for exact positions in a set location.
  • Why do my rank tracker and Search Console show different positions?
They measure different things. The tracker records your best spot from a fixed city and device; Search Console averages all real impressions. Filter Search Console to the same country and device before comparing.
  • What's the best free rank tracker?
Monitorank's free tier: 10 keywords free forever, checked daily. Pair it with Search Console for real data. Ahrefs Free doesn't include Rank Tracker, and SEO PowerSuite has a free desktop version.
  • How much does rank tracking software cost?
From free to several hundred dollars a month, depending on keyword volume. For 1,000 keywords tracked daily, expect about €40 at Monitorank, $129 at SE Ranking and €224 at AccuRanker, the last two covering 2,000 keywords.
  • Do I need daily or weekly rank tracking?
Weekly is fine for a small site that rarely publishes. Daily matters for ecommerce, client work, or during a Google core update. Note that Ahrefs is weekly by default; its Project Boost Max add-on ($200 a month per project) is pitched as daily, but its help pages disagree.
  • Can rank trackers track AI Overviews?
Some can. SE Ranking and Monitorank show whether an AI Overview appears for your keyword and whether your site is cited. Search Console doesn't break this out.
  • How do I track local rankings?
Set tracking to the city and add Google Maps tracking. A national ranking says nothing about a neighborhood business.
  • Is SE Ranking better than Semrush for rank tracking?
For tracking alone, yes on value: 2,000 daily keywords for $129, against 500 on the $199 Semrush Starter plan in our review. Semrush wins if you also need its keyword database and competitive data.
