What's the best app to translate your online store in 2026?
The one that covers product pages, URLs and checkout, and whose price you can predict before you add a third language.
Translating a store isn't just running product descriptions through a machine. You need collections, cart, policies, translated URLs and hreflang tags (the code that tells Google which version to show in which country). Miss one and you get a half-translated store, or one Google never shows abroad.
The short answer: Weglot is our top pick for a done-for-you setup that works the same on Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and Webflow, as long as you watch its word counter. Translate & Adapt, Shopify's free app, is enough for one or two languages. On WooCommerce, TranslatePress (€99 a year) and WPML (€99 a year with WooCommerce) store translations in your own database. Langify, Transcy, LangShop and ConveyThis fit narrower cases.
The biggest trap is the billing model. Weglot counts unique words across all your languages combined, as a fixed limit that doesn't renew: going from two languages to four can push you up a plan. We ran the numbers for a real catalog below.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

How we compared and scored
The top results for this search are mostly Shopify app roundups with an entry price and nothing on WooCommerce, or lists written by a vendor who ranks itself first. We wanted one page that covers Shopify, WooCommerce and site builders, with full price grids.
We read each tool's pricing page and app listing, then merchant feedback on the Shopify Community forum, in one-star app reviews and on WooCommerce blogs. The core criterion: the tool must translate store content (products, collections, cart) and publish a price. We checked three things most roundups skip: which plan unlocks translated URLs, where translations are stored, and how the price moves when you add a language.
All five criteria weigh the same: it's the grid we use on every page, so a tool keeps the same score across the site. None of these eight tools has a review page with us yet.

Weglot
Weglot picks up your site's text, translates it with DeepL, Google or Microsoft, then lets you edit in an online editor. It handles hreflang and metadata for you, and it works the same way on Shopify (app), WooCommerce (plugin, store emails included), Wix, Webflow or any site through a script. You can also order professional translation from inside the dashboard, from €0.13 a word.
Read the fine print on pricing. The quota counts unique words across all your languages combined, and it's a fixed limit that doesn't renew each month: go over and new translations stop until you upgrade. Weglot shows dollar prices and notes the final charge follows the EUR/USD rate: Starter is $17 a month (10,000 words, 1 language), Business $32 (50,000 words, 3 languages), Pro $87 (200,000 words, 5 languages).
The SEO catch: translated URLs ("/fr/a-propos" instead of "/fr/about") only come with Pro. And translations live on Weglot's side, so they disappear from your site if you cancel. If you're already there, read our guide to switching from Weglot.
- hreflang and metadata handled for you
- Same tool on Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Webflow
- Pro translators from €0.13 a word
- ✓Store translated in an hour, no code
- ✓Visual in-context editor
- ✓WooCommerce emails translated
- ✗Word quota adds up across languages
- ✗Translated URLs only from Pro ($87)
- ✗Translations gone if you cancel
The easiest to set up and the most complete on SEO. Before you subscribe, multiply your site's word count by your number of languages: that number, not the entry price, sets your plan.
Translate & Adapt
Translate & Adapt is Shopify's own translation app. It's free, installs in two clicks and stores translations inside Shopify: no script added to your theme, no word counter. The side-by-side editor shows source and translation field by field, for products, collections, pages and theme text. Paired with Shopify Markets, it serves the right language by visitor country.
The limit is one number: automatic translation covers 2 languages (8 in select countries). Past that you can still translate by hand or import a file. A Shopify staff member confirmed it on the official forum with no timeline for more, and merchants keep writing they'd pay for extra languages. Auto-sync when you edit a product is only available in some countries.
On SEO, Shopify generates hreflang automatically, but only for markets with a distinct domain, subdomain or subfolder. A market without its own address gets no hreflang.
- Translations stored in Shopify
- Side-by-side, field-by-field editor
- Automatic hreflang through Markets
- ✓Free, no word quota
- ✓Nothing injected into your theme
- ✓Native: follows Shopify updates
- ✗Auto translation capped at 2 languages
- ✗Auto-sync only in some countries
- ✗No advanced glossary or pro translation
Where every Shopify store should start. Only pay for an app when you need a third auto-translated language or a real glossary.
TranslatePress
TranslatePress translates your WooCommerce store from the front end: click any text on the page and translate it right there. Translations are stored in your WordPress database, not on a third-party server. Stop paying and they stay put.
It's a yearly license, priced in euros only. Personal (€99 a year) covers 1 site with 50,000 machine-translated words, Business (€199) 3 sites, 200,000 words, DeepL and a domain per language, Developer (€349) unlimited sites and 500,000 words. Product slugs are translated on every paid plan. The free version adds a single language and doesn't translate slugs.
The catch: beyond the included words, Google or DeepL API keys aren't included, so you pay those providers directly. Some users also report losing translations after an update: back up your database before every plugin update.
- Visual translation on the live page
- Slugs translated on every paid plan
- Domain per language on Business
- ✓Translations in your database, kept if you leave
- ✓Flat yearly price, no monthly counter
- ✓Fastest setup on WordPress
- ✗Google or DeepL keys paid separately
- ✗Free tier: 1 language, no slugs
- ✗Lost translations reported after updates
Our pick for a mid-size WooCommerce store. Business at €199 a year covers most cases, with DeepL and 200,000 words included.
WPML
WPML is WordPress's long-standing multilingual plugin. It translates products, variations, attributes, pages and compatible plugins, with a translation editor and fine control over who translates what. On a complex store, it covers the most ground.
Watch the entry plan: Multilingual Blog (€39) doesn't include WooCommerce. You need Multilingual CMS (€99, 3 sites, 22,500 machine-translated words) or Agency (€199, unlimited sites, 45,000 words). Included words reload at every renewal and never expire. And if you don't renew, your translations stay on your site; you only lose updates.
The catch: it's the heaviest tool here. Setup takes time, and a multilingual site stays slower than a single-language one. The 22,500 words in CMS only cover a small store; past that, you translate by hand or buy more words.
- Variations, attributes and currencies handled
- AI words reload at each renewal
- Translations kept without renewal
- ✓Handles the most complex stores
- ✓Translations in your database
- ✓Agency license for unlimited sites
- ✗€39 Blog plan excludes WooCommerce
- ✗Long setup
- ✗Few AI words included (22,500 on CMS)
The pick for a large WooCommerce store or an agency. For a small store, TranslatePress gets there faster.
Langify
Langify bets on manual translation: its free plan gives unlimited manual translations across 5 languages. Paid plans add AI words at a flat price: Basic ($17.50 a month) goes to 20 languages with 10,000 AI words and third-party app translation, Growth ($29.95) gives 50,000 words and bulk translation, Premium ($59.95) 200,000 words. On SEO it handles subfolders, custom domains and translated URLs.
The catch is support. Recent one-star reviews describe unreachable support, pages jumping back to the original language, untranslated sections, work lost after an update and archived products counted in the word total. The overall rating is still high (4.7 from 727 reviews), but these complaints keep coming back.
- Unlimited manual translation free on 5 languages
- Flat-price AI words
- Translated URLs and subfolders
- ✓Most generous free manual tier
- ✓Translates third-party apps from Basic
- ✓Predictable price
- ✗Support criticized in recent reviews
- ✗Archived products count toward words
- ✗Shopify only
A good fit if you or a translator do the work. Export your translations regularly, just in case.
Transcy
Transcy is one of the most reviewed translation apps on the Shopify App Store, with 2,561 reviews and a 4.5 rating. It covers 147 languages with OpenAI, DeepL or Gemini, translates URLs, handles hreflang, offers a glossary and converts 168 currencies. Translations are stored in Shopify.
Price depends on both languages and product count. Local Plus ($14.90 a month) gives 1 language and 100 products, Continental ($69) 15 languages and 300 products, Cross-Border ($99) 50 languages and 1,500 products. A 400-product store needs the $99 plan even for 3 languages. The free plan keeps full editing and SEO for paid tiers.
The catch: recent one-star reviews mention auto translation not triggering, links changed without consent, hreflang conflicts, 404s and leftover code after uninstalling. Duplicate your theme before installing.
- 147 languages, 168 currencies
- OpenAI, DeepL or Gemini
- Glossary and translated URLs
- ✓Translation and currency in one app
- ✓Translations stored in Shopify
- ✓Lots of languages from Continental
- ✗Price capped by product count
- ✗Changed links and 404s reported
- ✗Leftover code after uninstall
Strong for an international store with a small catalog. Count your products before picking a plan, and keep a theme backup.
LangShop
LangShop is the cheapest way here to get many languages on Shopify. Basic costs $10 a month ($100 a year) for 10 languages and 250 products. Standard ($40) goes to 15 languages and 2,000 products, Advanced ($75) to 20 languages and 5,000 products. The free plan gives 1 language and 50 products, and there's a 14-day trial.
The catch: like Transcy, the price follows your product count, so a catalog that grows past 250 products jumps from $10 to $40. Its rating (4.5 from 472 reviews) rests on fewer reviews than the leaders.
- 10 languages for $10 a month
- Yearly billing available
- 14-day trial
- ✓Lowest paid entry price for many languages
- ✓Simple plans
- ✓Free tier to try
- ✗Price jumps past 250 products
- ✗Fewer reviews than the leaders
- ✗Shopify only
The budget pick when Translate & Adapt's two languages aren't enough and your catalog is small.
ConveyThis
ConveyThis works like Weglot: a script detects your text and translates it, on Shopify, WordPress, Wix, Webflow or Squarespace. Its tiers give more words for the money: Starter at $12 a month ($10 yearly) for 60,000 words, Business at $24 for 200,000 words and 3 languages, Pro at $64 for 800,000 words and 5 languages. The free plan keeps 10,000 words and 1 language with no time limit.
The catch: the pricing page doesn't say which plan unlocks translated URLs. Ask before you pay if SEO matters to you. And like Weglot, translations are served by the tool: no subscription, no translations.
- Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify, WordPress
- More words per dollar than Weglot
- Free with no time limit
- ✓Cheaper per word
- ✓Permanent free plan
- ✓Script install, no code
- ✗Translated-URL plan not stated
- ✗Translations depend on the subscription
- ✗Less merchant feedback than Weglot
Worth a look if Weglot gets too pricey or you're on Wix or Squarespace. Check URL translation before committing.
A 40,000-word store in 3 languages: what you really pay
Prices don't compare directly: one counts words, another products, a third sells a yearly license. Take a store with 40,000 words of text (products, collections, pages) adding 3 languages. For a tool that counts translated words per language, that's 120,000 words. Prices before tax.
Per word: $15 to $87 a month
Yearly license: €99 to €199 a year
On Shopify: $0 to $99 a month
Human translation
- Count your words once, then multiply by languages
- Check whether archived products count
- Find the plan that translates URLs
- Ask where translations are stored
Six settings that prevent nasty surprises
What merchants share on the Shopify Community forum and in reviews, and what roundups leave out.
The tips
Work around Translate & Adapt's 2-language cap
ShopifyMerchants share this on the official forum: export one language's translations, delete that language to free one of the two auto slots, translate the next one, then re-import the first file. It's manual, but free. Another method uses a CSV export and a Google Sheets script.
- Cap
- 2 auto languages (8 in some countries)
- Cost
- $0
Give each Shopify market its own address
SEOShopify only generates hreflang for markets with a distinct domain, subdomain or subfolder, and recommends subfolders (/fr, /de). Without that, Google doesn't know which version to show, and your translation won't rank.
- Recommended
- Subfolders
Clean up before you translate
Per wordOn Weglot, the quota is a fixed limit across all languages. Delete dead products and useless pages before switching on a language. On Langify, merchants report that archived products count toward words: delete them instead of archiving.
- Weglot
- Fixed limit, no renewal
Place a test order in every language
CheckoutCheckout and order emails are the pages everyone forgets. Place a real order in each language and read the confirmation email. On WooCommerce, Weglot translates store emails; on WPML, pick a plan that includes WooCommerce.
- Test
- 1 order per language
Back up before every update
ReversibilityTranslatePress and Langify users report losing translations after updates. A database backup (WordPress) or a translation export (Shopify) before each update protects you.
- When
- Before every update
Duplicate your theme before installing an app
ShopifySome apps inject code into the theme and leave it behind after uninstalling, according to Transcy reviews. Work on a theme copy, and run one translation app at a time.
- Rule
- One translation app at a time
Three questions to find yours
On Wix, look at the platform's own multilingual tool before adding an app. Polylang (Business Pack with WooCommerce at €139 a year) suits WooCommerce stores that translate by hand. Linguise ($15 a month for 200,000 words, unlimited languages) isn't ranked: its pricing page names neither its platforms nor its hreflang handling. If you're moving platforms, see switching from WooCommerce.

Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify have free built-in translation?
Yes, through Translate & Adapt, a free app made by Shopify. It auto-translates 2 languages (8 in select countries) and allows manual translation beyond that. Translations live in Shopify, so nothing disappears if you add another app later.
Is Weglot or Transcy better for Shopify?
Weglot if you want the same tool across platforms and the cleanest SEO setup; Transcy if you sell into many countries and want currencies in the same app. Weglot bills by words across languages, Transcy by languages and product count.
Should you translate your store's URLs?
Yes if you want Google traffic abroad: a URL in the visitor's language helps clicks and rankings. Weglot needs Pro ($87 a month). TranslatePress translates slugs on every paid plan, Langify and Transcy do too.
Can you run Translate & Adapt and another translation app together?
Avoid it: two tools translating the same pages step on each other (links, hreflang, displayed language). Pick one, and uninstall the other cleanly on a theme copy.
Do translation apps translate third-party apps like reviews?
Not all of them. Langify translates third-party apps from its Basic plan. Whatever you pick, check every app widget in each language before launch.
Do my translations stay if I stop paying?
It depends. With WPML, TranslatePress or Translate & Adapt, they're in your database or in Shopify and stay. With Weglot or ConveyThis, they're served by the tool and disappear when you cancel.
How many languages should you start with?
One or two, for countries you already ship to. Each language adds words to the counter, emails to check and support to provide. Add the next one when the first sells.
Is machine translation good enough for product pages?
To start, yes, if you review titles, sizes and legal mentions. For best sellers, a human pass is worth it: Weglot sells professional translation from €0.13 a word.
