How much does Pangram cost?
The real price of the AI text detector, plan by plan, word by word.
Short answer: Pangram has a free plan with 2,000 words a day, no credit card. The first paid plan, Individual at $20 a month ($15 billed annually), covers 300,000 words a month and adds plagiarism checks. Above that, Professional at $65 ($45 billed annually) goes up to 1,500,000 words. A team pays $40 a month for 2 seats. If you've seen "4 scans a day" or "600 scans a month" elsewhere, that's the old grid: since Pangram 4, everything is counted in words.
Some links to Pangram are affiliate links: using them doesn't change what you pay. The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
What each Pangram plan costs
Here's the full grid, as Pangram publishes it on its pricing page and in its help center. Quotas are words per month, except the free plan, which resets daily. Billed annually, Individual drops from $20 to $15 a month and Professional from $65 to $45: that's 25% and 31% off.
Prices in US dollars, billed monthly. Sales tax or VAT added depending on where you are.

What eats into your word quota
A plan price means little until you know what it buys. Pangram sells a word quota, and four rules decide how far it really goes.
Every scan counts, even the second one
The quota drops with every scan, not every unique text: a text scanned, revised and scanned again counts twice its word count. Rewrite-and-recheck loops are the number one reason people hit the ceiling before month end.
The free plan resets daily, not monthly
The 2,000 free words don't roll over. A 5,000-word document won't go through in one pass on the free plan: you split it over three days or you pay. On paper the free plan gives 60,000 words a month; in practice you only get what you use day after day.
Images have their own counter
Since Pangram 4, image scanning is included in the plans: 100 a month on Individual, 500 on Professional. A screenshot of an essay or a photo of handwritten homework uses that counter, not your words.
The API is billed separately, and costs more
The API runs $0.05 per 100 words, so $500 per million. That's roughly ten times the per-word price of an annual Professional plan. The switch to Pangram 4 raised the API's per-word price two- to tenfold depending on document length. For human use, a subscription is almost always cheaper.
- Count your monthly words, rechecks included
- Add a 20% buffer for double scans
- Split image needs from text needs
- Decide whether you need plagiarism (paid only)
- Solo or team?
- Keep the API for integrations, not daily checks
How we work out the real cost
We compared Pangram's pricing page, its help center (plans, API, refunds, cancellation), the analyses published after the Pangram 4 switch, and recurring user complaints about billing. We bring every plan down to its cost per million words, then work out at which monthly volume the API, Individual or Professional becomes the best pick. Cost per million lets you compare plans that look nothing alike on paper.
- Individual, monthly$20 for 300,000 words.$66.70 per million
- Individual, annual$15 a month for 300,000 words.$50 per million
- Professional, monthly$65 for 1,500,000 words.$43.30 per million
- Professional, annualThe cheapest word on the grid.$30 per million
- API, realtime$0.05 per 100 words.$500 per million
- API, batch20% off grouped jobs.$400 per million
We didn't buy a plan: figures come from Pangram's official pages, the math is ours.
Which plan for how many words a month
Count your words per month, rescans included, then read the row that fits. Every amount comes straight from Pangram's official grid: plan quota, monthly or annual price, and $0.05 per 100 words for the API.
Official prices in US dollars, before tax.
Up to 40,000 words
Occasional use
Free if you stay under 2,000 words a day
- Free: 2,000 words a day, no card
- API: 40,000 words x $0.05 / 100 = $20
- Under 30,000 words, the API beats Individual annual ($15)
- The free plan has no plagiarism check
40,000 to 300,000 words
Individual territory
$15/month billed annually
- One plan covers the whole band
- At 300,000 words: $66.70 per million monthly
- Same volume on the API: $150
- Plagiarism and images included
300,000 to 1,500,000 words
Professional territory
$45/month billed annually
- The only plan above 300,000 words
- At 1,500,000 words: $30 per million annual
- Same volume on the API: $750
- Beyond that: API or Enterprise quote
The threshold to remember: under 40,000 words a month, the API is cheaper than Individual monthly; under 30,000, cheaper than annual. Above 300,000 words, only Professional keeps up.
7 ways to pay less for Pangram
These are the billing rules most guides skip. None of them needs a workaround: you just need to know them before you pay.
The tips
Measure your volume on the free plan first
$0The free plan gives you 2,000 words a day with no card. For a week, run your real documents and note how many words you use. You'll know whether you fit in free, in Individual, or need more. It's also when you judge the verdicts on your own writing, not a demo.
- Quota
- 2,000 words a day
- Card
- not required
Fit your big job into the 7-day trial
7 daysIndividual and Team come with a 7-day trial. If you have a one-off pile (finals week, a content audit), schedule it inside that week. Set a reminder the day before the trial ends: if you don't cancel, the charge goes through.

- Cancel
- Plan and Usage
Go annual only once your usage is steady
Up to 31% offAnnual billing takes Individual from $20 to $15 a month ($60 saved) and Professional from $65 to $45 ($240 saved). But you pay the year upfront, and refunds are tight. Wait for two or three months of regular use first, especially if your work follows a school calendar.
- Individual
- $15/month annually
- Professional
- $45/month annually
Under 40,000 words a month, use the API
Per wordAt $0.05 per 100 words, 30,000 words cost $15 and 20,000 words cost $10. If your needs are uneven, with empty months, the API saves you from paying for a sleeping subscription. You'll need some technical comfort, or an automation tool that calls the API for you.
- Price
- $0.05 per 100 words
- Threshold
- 40,000 words a month
On the API, batch your scans
20% offThe asynchronous batch API costs 20% less: $400 per million words instead of $500. If you don't need the result instantly (an archive audit, a nightly check), it's a free saving.
- Price
- $0.04 per 100 words
Scan the final text, once
QuotaEvery scan uses quota. Scanning each draft doubles or triples your usage. Keep Pangram for the submitted version, and scan the whole text rather than excerpts: verdicts on short passages are also the least reliable.
- Effect
- 2 to 3 times fewer words
Know the refund rule before you pay
14 daysPangram only refunds if you've used fewer than 20 credits and ask within 14 days of purchase, by email to support. In other words: if you're unsure, don't start using the paid plan until you are, and lean on the free plan and the trial to decide.
- Window
- 14 days from purchase
- Condition
- under 20 credits used
Pangram pricing against other detectors
Pangram isn't the cheapest way in. Originality.ai starts at $14.95 and Winston AI at $18, with smaller quotas. Pangram wins on volume: 300,000 words for $20 is more than rivals give at a similar price. Scores come from our review pages and our AI detector ranking.

So, is Pangram worth the money?
Our take after comparing the grid, the help center and user feedback: fair per word, but with a tight refund policy and patchy support.
Worth it if…
You regularly grade or edit long texts and a false accusation would cost you: a teacher, a newsroom, a compliance team. At $15 a month billed annually for 300,000 words, plagiarism included, the per-word price is one of the lowest for a detector at this level.
Not worth it if…
You check two or three texts a week: the free plan is enough. Same if your usage is very uneven, where the per-word API beats a sleeping subscription. And if your whole school needs an LMS integration, Turnitin or an Enterprise quote is the real conversation.
Its real limit
Support and clarity. Tickets sometimes go unanswered, the API is described two ways depending on the page, and plenty of sites still show the old scan-based grid. Our 2.9 out of 5 for value on the review page comes from that, not from detection quality.
- Under 2,000 words a day: stay on free
- Steady use under 300,000 words: Individual
- Over 300,000 words: Professional
- Two people or more: Team
- Plugging into a tool: API
- Whole institution: Enterprise quote

Pangram pricing FAQ
Is Pangram free?
Partly: the Free plan gives you 2,000 words a day, no credit card. The quota resets daily and doesn't roll over, so a 5,000-word document won't go through in one pass. Plagiarism checks are paid-only. Tip: for a thesis, scan the chapters over several days instead of paying for a single paper. How much is Pangram a month?
Pangram costs $0 to $65 a month for one person: Free at $0, Individual at $20 and Professional at $65. Billed annually, Individual works out to $15 a month and Professional to $45. A team pays $40 a month for 2 seats, and institutions go through an Enterprise quote. Why do some sites say "4 scans a day"?
Because they describe Pangram's old grid, which counted scans rather than words (4 or 5 free a day, 600 a month on the entry plan). Since Pangram 4, everything is counted in words: 2,000 a day free, 300,000 a month on Individual, 1,500,000 on Professional. If a page still shows scans, it's out of date.Is Pangram worth it compared to GPTZero?
On price per word, Pangram holds up: 300,000 words for $20 is generous at that price point. GPTZero has a free plan and annual billing up to 45% cheaper than monthly, but no readable grid on its page. Compare per word and on false positives, not on the sticker price: that's where Pangram earns its fee.How much does the Pangram API cost?
The API costs $0.05 per 100 words, so $500 per million, and 20% less in batch mode. That's about ten times the per-word price of annual Professional: the API is for plugging Pangram into a tool, not for replacing a subscription. Exception: under 40,000 words a month, it beats monthly Individual. Can I get a refund from Pangram?
Yes, under two conditions: you've used fewer than 20 credits, and you ask within 14 days of purchase, by email to support. If you've already scanned a lot, the refund is refused. Canceling from Plan and Usage stops the renewal, and you keep access until the end of the paid period. Is the Team plan worth it?
Yes as soon as two people share the checking: $40 a month for 2 seats, so $20 per seat, the same as Individual, plus an admin dashboard and a single invoice. Billed annually, the listed saving is $120 a year. For one person with heavy volume, Professional is still the better deal.Does Pangram charge sales tax?
Prices are listed in US dollars before tax. Depending on your state or country, sales tax or VAT is added at checkout. Outside the US, your bank also applies its exchange rate, so a card with no foreign transaction fees saves a little on every charge, especially an annual one.
