SE Ranking alternatives: where to go, based on why you're leaving
Five tools compared, the real cost for one or three users, and a seven-step exit plan.
The short answer: Semrush if you want a bigger suite, Ahrefs if backlink research comes first, Nightwatch if you only need rank tracking, and Moz Pro or Ubersuggest if you want to pay less for a small site. Before you leave, know two things. SE Ranking's new pricing starts at $129 a month (Core) and keeps only six months of ranking history. And that history doesn't follow you to most tools, so export it before your paid period ends. We compared these five destinations and checked their 2026 pricing.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a rating.
Why people are leaving SE Ranking in 2026
SE Ranking is still one of the cheapest ways to track 2,000 keywords every day, and plenty of agencies say so. People leave for other reasons: the new pricing, what it moves into add-ons, and doubts about the rankings it shows. Here are six reasons, drawn from public reviews from 2026 and from the new pricing grid.
New pricing that starts at $129
In 2026, SE Ranking replaced its Essential, Pro and Business plans with Core, Growth and Enterprise. The entry price is now $129 a month ($103.20 billed yearly) and Growth is $279 ($223.20). The old entry plan cost roughly half that. Some customers say they were moved to the new plans without asking for it.
Six months of history on Core
Core keeps six months of ranking history. Unlimited history only comes with Growth at $279 a month. If a client wants to compare this season with last year's, that's a real gap.
Add-ons that stack up
White-label reports and client seats live in the Agency Pack, an extra $69 a month and yearly billing only. Extra keywords start at $22.40 on Core, an extra seat at $16, and API access costs extra too. The final bill often lands well above the sticker price.
Rankings that don't match Google
In 2026, several users reported positions that didn't match what they saw in Google, incomplete daily updates, or keywords flagged as deindexed while they were still ranking. For a tool most people pick for tracking, that's the heaviest reason to go.
Support that's hard to reach
The negative reviews sound alike: an AI assistant on the front line, a human who's hard to get, and free days of access instead of refunds. If you bill clients on these reports, an unanswered incident gets expensive.
Paying for features you don't use
Core now bundles AI visibility tracking (25 prompts a day across 5 engines), content credits and API credits. Useful for some teams. If you only wanted rank tracking, you're paying for a bundle you don't open.
You're leaving because… go to…
The right SE Ranking alternative depends on what's pushing you out. Usually only one row applies. Each card links to the full profile below.

SE Ranking alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why switch to it, who it's for, its catch, how to move over from SE Ranking, and what it costs. Prices are what each vendor shows in 2026, in dollars unless the vendor only shows euros.
The tools
Semrush: the full suite, for when SE Ranking feels small
Most completeWhy switch to Semrush. SE Ranking does rank tracking and site audits well. Semrush goes further on almost everything else: a bigger keyword database, competitor research, PPC data, content and social tools. If you spend as much time studying other sites as you do watching your own, Semrush replaces SE Ranking plus one or two side subscriptions.
Who it's for. In-house marketing teams that run both SEO and paid search, and consultants who want one suite for every client.
Who it's not for. A freelancer who only tracks rankings. You'd pay for a whole suite to use one feature.
The catch. Seats get expensive. The SEO plan is $139 a month ($117.33 billed yearly), and each extra user starts at $45. For a team of three, that's about $229 a month, against $279 for SE Ranking Growth, which already includes three seats. The 7-day trial asks for a card, so put the end date in your calendar.
How to move over. Recreate your projects, then paste your keywords into Position Tracking with their tags. Semrush can import ranking history from another tool through its support team, but not on every plan. Ask before you pay. If the answer is no, keep your SE Ranking export as an archive and start fresh.
Our Semrush review breaks down each plan, and Semrush vs Ahrefs settles the heavyweight question.

Ahrefs: for people who live in backlink data
BacklinksWhy switch to Ahrefs. SE Ranking's backlink index is fine for watching your own profile. It runs out of road when you dig into competitors' links or hunt for link prospects. That's where Ahrefs is strongest, and Content Explorer helps you find topics that earn links in the first place.
Who it's for. Link builders, SEO consultants and teams whose work starts with competitor backlink research.
Who it's not for. Anyone leaving SE Ranking for its daily rank tracking. Ahrefs Rank Tracker updates weekly by default.
The catch. Starter costs $29 a month but is built for light research. Lite is $129 a month for one user and 1,000 credits, and every extra user adds $40. Standard is $249. If you only need data on your own sites, Ahrefs Free (formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools) gives you audits and backlinks for verified sites at no cost.
How to move over. Verify your sites (connecting Search Console is quickest), rebuild your keyword lists in Rank Tracker and set the update frequency. Your SE Ranking history won't come with you, so archive it.

Moz Pro: a cheaper entry point with real tracking
Low entry priceWhy switch to Moz Pro. SE Ranking's new pricing starts at $129 a month. Moz Pro starts at $49 with Starter, and Standard drops to $79 a month on yearly billing. Moz has also added dashboards that show how often you appear in AI answers.
Who it's for. A single site or a small portfolio that wants the basics (tracking, audits, keyword research) at a low monthly price.
Who it's not for. An agency tracking 2,000 keywords a day. You'd need Medium ($179, or $143 yearly) or Large ($299), and the price gap closes.
The catch. The small plans are tight. Starter is for getting a feel for the tool; once you track several sites, you'll want Standard or above.
How to move over. Create one campaign per site, add your keywords to a campaign and pick the search engines and locations to track. Our guide to switching from Moz Pro shows its limits from the inside.

- Starter $49/mo
- Standard
- $79/mo yearly

- one site, small budget

Nightwatch: rank tracking and nothing else
Pure trackerWhy switch to Nightwatch. If you mostly used SE Ranking to track rankings, you were also paying for audits, content tools and AI visibility. Nightwatch only tracks, with unlimited seats and three years of history. If Core's six-month history limit bit you, this is the clean fix.
Who it's for. Agencies and teams that track a lot of keywords and share results with several people.
Who it's not for. Anyone who also wants site audits, keyword research or backlink data in the same tool. You'd need a second subscription.
The catch. Nightwatch prices in euros, even on its English site. Starter is €79 a month billed yearly (€948 a year), Professional €159 and Agency €399. The lowest price assumes you pay a year upfront, and since you're billed in euros, your card's exchange rate applies.
Wincher, Mangools and SpyFu also sell cheaper trackers. We don't rank them here: their prices weren't readable on their official pages, so check them yourself.
How to move over. The 14-day trial needs no card, which is enough to run Nightwatch next to SE Ranking. Load the same 20 important keywords in both, compare for a week, then move everything.

Ubersuggest: the lowest budget for a single site
Small budgetWhy switch to Ubersuggest. If you track one site and a few dozen keywords, SE Ranking Core is more tool than you need. Ubersuggest gives you keyword research, a site audit and simple rank tracking for $29 to $99 a month depending on the plan, with a 7-day trial. There's also a lifetime deal you pay once.
Who it's for. Bloggers, small shop owners and freelancers getting started with SEO.
Who it's not for. Agencies, or anyone who needs deep backlink data and reliable daily tracking at volume.
The catch. The data is shallower than Semrush or Ahrefs, and the tool is built for simple use cases.
How to move over. Keep only the keywords you actually check, add your site and let tracking start. Our Ubersuggest review covers each plan, and Semrush vs Ubersuggest helps you pick between the two.

SE Ranking and 5 alternatives side by side
Our default pick: Semrush if you want to do more, Nightwatch if you only need rank tracking and want unlimited seats. To make it concrete, take a team of three. SE Ranking Growth is $279 a month with three seats included, or Core at $129 plus two $16 seats, so $161, but with six months of history. Semrush SEO plus two users comes to about $229. Ahrefs Lite plus two users is about $209. Nightwatch doesn't charge per seat at all. The table gives one row per tool: entry price on the left, what matters for your move on the right.
| Entry price | Tracking, seats and migration | |
|---|---|---|
| SE RankingWhere you're starting | Core $129/mo ($103.20 yearly), 14-day trial, no card | 2,000 daily keywords, 1 seat, 6 months of history; Growth $279 for unlimited history |
| SemrushMost complete | SEO plan $139/mo ($117.33 yearly), 7-day trial with card | Extra users from $45; history import via support, plan-dependent |
| AhrefsBacklinks | Starter $29/mo, Lite $129/mo; Ahrefs Free for your sites | Weekly tracking by default; extra users $40 on Lite |
| Moz ProLow entry price | Starter $49/mo; Standard $79/mo yearly | Medium $179 to scale up |
| NightwatchPure tracker | Starter €79/mo yearly, 14-day trial, no card | Unlimited seats, 3 years of history; no audits or research |
| UbersuggestSmall budget | $29 to $99/mo, 7-day trial | Built for one site; lifetime deal available |
Entry prices before tax, subject to change. Always check against your real keyword and user count.
Leaving SE Ranking in seven steps
Order matters. The most important part happens before your paid period ends: that's when you save your history and avoid paying for an add-on you'll never use.
The steps
List everything running in SE Ranking
Day 1Write down your projects, keyword count per project, tracked search engines and locations (city, country, mobile or desktop), tags, tracked competitors, scheduled reports and the guest links you gave clients. One row per item in a spreadsheet is enough.
You'll use that sheet twice: to pick the right plan at your new tool (keyword count drives price nearly everywhere), and to check nothing got left behind on switch day.
- Time
- about an hour
- If you skip it
- a forgotten client report
Export your ranking history before your paid period ends
CriticalIn the rankings module, pick the longest date range and export. XLS keeps the position changes; for more than a year of data, CSV is the safer format. Export your keyword lists with tags, your tracked competitors and your latest audits too.
Do it now, not on the last day. Once your subscription ends, projects go inactive and SE Ranking only keeps them for a limited time (it mentions roughly two months). On Core, your history only goes back six months anyway.
- Format
- CSV for 1+ year
- Keep
- rankings, keywords, tags
Turn off auto-renewal right away
No downsideYou cancel from the billing section of your account, on your current plan. Cancelling early costs you nothing: you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. Check the end date shown on screen and take a screenshot.
Don't buy anything else in the meantime: no prepaid balance, no extra keywords, no add-ons. Several customers report they weren't refunded, and SE Ranking tends to offer extra days of access instead.
- Access
- until the paid period ends
- Avoid
- any add-on purchase
Run the new tool side by side
1 to 2 weeksStart your new tool's trial while SE Ranking is still live: 14 days with no card at Nightwatch, 7 days at Semrush (card required). Track the same 20 keywords, with the same location and device, in both.
A gap of one or two positions is normal, because each tool checks Google at a different time and from a different place. A ten-position gap on half your keywords means a location or device setting doesn't match.
- Sample
- 20 keywords
- Check
- location and device
Import keywords and rebuild projects
Upload your keywords as CSV, project by project, with tags. Use the move to prune: a keyword nobody has looked at in six months doesn't need to come along, and keyword count is what you pay for at most tools.
History almost never transfers. Store the export in a shared folder and mark the switch date on your reports, so you can explain to a client why the chart restarts.
- If you skip pruning
- a pricier plan
- History
- archived separately
Rebuild reports and client access
AgenciesScheduled reports, dashboards and guest links don't move with the data. Rebuild them in the new tool, with your logo if you white-label, and send yourself a test report before any client sees one.
Give clients a week's notice: a new report sender, a new login link, and rankings that may shift by a position.
- Rebuild
- reports and guest access
- Client notice
- one week
Switch over, then let SE Ranking lapse
End of termOnce the new tool gives you stable numbers, stop checking SE Ranking. Disconnect the integrations that fed it (Search Console, Google Analytics, Looker Studio) and connect them to the new tool.
Before the end date, open your export one last time to make sure it reads correctly. An empty file found three months later can't be fixed.
- Last check
- export opens
- Integrations
- reconnected

What makes a move off SE Ranking go wrong
The same mistakes show up again and again in reviews and forums. None of them is technical. They're calendar and math mistakes, and each one costs more than the time it would have taken to avoid it.
Waiting until the last day to export
After your subscription ends, projects go inactive and are only kept for a limited time. An export started the night before, on years of data, can fail or come out incomplete. Export as soon as you decide.
Leaving over price without doing the math
For 2,000 keywords tracked daily, few tools beat Core on price. Leaving for cost only makes sense if you track fewer keywords or need just one part of the tool. Count the keywords you actually check before you compare.
Assuming daily tracking is everywhere
SE Ranking updates rankings every day. Ahrefs does it weekly by default. If your clients check rankings every Monday, fine. If they react to every Google update, it isn't.
Buying an add-on on the way out
A prepaid balance, a keyword pack or a yearly Agency Pack won't be refunded, according to several customers. If you know you're leaving, don't add anything, even for a busy month.
Comparing rankings with different settings
Two tools that don't track the same city, device or search engine will give you different numbers, and you'll think one is wrong. Match the settings before you judge accuracy.
Letting clients find out on their own
A report that suddenly looks different and a chart that restarts from zero do more damage than a price increase. Tell them, show them the new tool, and keep the old history as an appendix. For a wider view, see our best SEO tools and Semrush alternatives.

- Ranking history exported (CSV beyond one year) and opened
- Auto-renewal off, end date noted
- No add-on or balance purchases until the end
- New tool on trial, 20 keywords compared with matching settings

SE Ranking alternatives: frequently asked questions
What is a cheaper alternative to SE Ranking?
For a single site, Moz Pro Starter at $49 a month or Ubersuggest at $29 to $99 a month. For tracking only, Nightwatch starts at €79 a month on a yearly plan. But for 2,000 keywords tracked daily, few tools undercut SE Ranking Core, so count your keywords first.
Is there a free alternative to SE Ranking?
Not for full daily tracking, but you can cover the basics for free. Google Search Console shows the average position of your own sites, without daily tracking or competitors. Ahrefs Free adds audits and backlinks for your verified sites. Beyond that, you'll need a paid tool.
Is SE Ranking better than Semrush?
SE Ranking is better value if your main job is tracking lots of keywords daily. Semrush is better if you also want PPC, content and deeper competitor research. For one user, Semrush costs a bit more ($139 vs $129). Our Semrush review covers the plans in detail.
Why did SE Ranking raise its prices?
SE Ranking rebuilt its pricing in 2026: Core and Growth replaced Essential, Pro and Business, with more features bundled in, including AI visibility tracking. That removed the cheap entry plan. If you don't use the new features, you're paying for them anyway.
Can I export my ranking history from SE Ranking?
Yes, from the rankings module: pick the date range and export to XLS or CSV (CSV is safer beyond a year). Do it before your paid period ends. Most tools won't import it; Semrush can through its support team, but not on every plan.
Does SE Ranking give refunds?
Don't count on it. Public reviews from 2026 mostly describe refusals, with free days of access offered instead. Turn off auto-renewal early: you keep access until the end of the paid period and avoid a new charge to dispute.
What's the best SE Ranking alternative for agencies?
Semrush if your clients also want paid search, Nightwatch if your work is mostly tracking and reporting, since seats are unlimited. Compare them in our rank tracking software ranking.
Should I leave SE Ranking if the rankings look wrong?
Check the settings first: location, device and search engine. Then compare 20 keywords with another tool for a week on a free trial. If the gap stays large and support can't explain it, that's a solid reason to leave. A rank tracker is only worth its rankings.
