Brandwatch alternatives: where to go, and how to exit the contract without losing your history

Eight tools, one for each reason to leave, and a six-step exit plan.

The short answer: Brand24 if you want public pricing and a 14-day trial with no card (from $199 a month billed annually), Mentionlytics if several people need access without blowing the budget, Awario if you track a lot of mentions for little money (from $29 a month billed annually), and YouScan if your brand shows up in photos more than in text. To stay on an enterprise-grade tool, look at Talkwalker by Hootsuite or Meltwater. If your team publishes as much as it listens, Sprout Social and Agorapulse add listening to social media management. We compared all eight on their official pricing pages in 2026.

The real reasons

Why teams leave Brandwatch, and why the exit takes planning

Brandwatch is still a reference tool for analyzing online conversations. Cision closed its acquisition in 2021, and Falcon.io was folded in during 2022 to become its social media management product. People rarely leave because of the data. They leave over price, the contract, the hours spent tuning queries, and changes they had no say in during 2026. Here are six reasons, each one checked against Brandwatch's own pages or former customers' reviews.

You only see a price after the demo

The pricing page shows no numbers and no trial, just a demo request. The old Essentials plan with a trial is gone: only negotiated contracts are left. One user summed it up: four figures a month, and a sales call before you even see a price.

A 12-month contract that can renew quietly

Contracts are annual. In recent reviews, one agency describes being stuck for 12 months with a tool that didn't fit its workflow. Another says an auto-renewal clause was slipped into what used to be a manual renewal, with no reminder before the invoice. Your notice period depends on your contract: check its notice and renewal clauses first.

Boolean queries that need a full-time analyst

Brandwatch's power comes from Boolean queries (keyword logic built with AND, OR and NOT). Happy users admit there's a real learning curve. Unhappy ones say they spend more time configuring queries than reading insights, and get alerts full of irrelevant mentions. Without someone dedicated to it, you pay a lot for what you get back.

Exports capped at 5,000 mentions a day

From the app, exports are capped at 5,000 mentions a day for the entire organization, shared across every search, and the counter resets at midnight UTC. The analytics API allows 30 calls every 10 minutes. Brandwatch also publishes no data retention policy for after your contract ends. In practice, 150,000 mentions take a month of daily exports.

Reddit history shrank in 2026

In 2026, Brandwatch changed its Reddit coverage. About 89% of content arrives within three hours, and some can take around 30 hours. Reddit history is now 13 months in Consumer Research and 12 months in Listen (24 as an add-on). Legacy Reddit history is no longer available, not even for export. If Reddit matters to your brand, that's a big loss.

Weaker outside English

Sentiment analysis is less accurate outside English, and it often scores the tone of the conversation rather than how people feel about your brand. Users also point out there's no Discord or Telegram coverage. If you track several languages or those communities, a smaller tool can do better on these specific points.

The 8 alternatives

Brandwatch alternatives, tool by tool

For each tool: why switch to it, who it's for, its limit, how to move over from Brandwatch, and what it costs. Prices are the ones each vendor showed on its pricing page in 2026. Scores come from our reviews and our social listening ranking.

01

Brand24: public pricing and a trial with no card

Best place to start

Why switch to Brand24. On pricing, it's the exact opposite of Brandwatch. Everything is on the page, monthly billing exists, and the 14-day trial doesn't ask for a card. Individual is $249 a month, or $199 billed annually, for 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions and 1 user. Team is $299 billed annually ($349 monthly) with 7 keywords, 10,000 mentions and unlimited users. Pro is $399 ($499) for 12 keywords and 40,000 mentions, and Business is $599 ($699) for 25 keywords and 100,000 mentions. Enterprise starts at $1,499.

Who it's for. Small and mid-size companies and agencies tracking a handful of brands and competitors, with no dedicated analyst.

Who it's not for. An insights team digging through years of history with twenty-line queries. Brand24 doesn't go that deep.

Its limit. Everything counts in keywords and mentions, and going over your mention quota costs extra. Data refreshes every 12 hours on Individual, hourly on Team, and in real time only from Pro up. Our full Brand24 review scores it 3.5 out of 5, with 2.8 for value for money.

How to move over. Turn each Brandwatch query into a list of keywords and exclusions. Then check your monthly mention volume in Brandwatch: that number, more than your query count, decides your plan. Run the trial during your last contract month so you can compare volumes side by side.

Mentionlytics: listening for the whole team, at a small price

Best value for teams

Why switch to Mentionlytics. It has the highest score in this list and the most generous user counts. Basic is $49 a month billed annually for 3 tracking rules, 5,000 mentions and 2 users. Essential is $169 for 10 rules, 15,000 mentions and 10 users. Advanced is $299 for 15 rules, 50,000 mentions and unlimited users. Pro ($499) and Business ($749) go up to 200,000+ mentions. Enterprise starts at $1,299 a month billed annually.

Who it's for. Teams of 2 to 10 people across comms, marketing and support who all need to see the mentions.

Who it's not for. An analyst building deep research dashboards over several years of data.

Its limit. Unlimited users only come with Advanced, at $299. And some software directories still list old prices, so trust the vendor's own plan comparison over review sites.

How to move over. One active Brandwatch query becomes one tracking rule. Count the queries someone actually read in the last three months. Most teams have twice as many as they use, and trimming them often drops you a plan.

Awario: the most mentions for the least money

Cheapest

Why switch to Awario. It's the biggest price gap with Brandwatch. Starter is $29 a month billed annually ($49 monthly) for 3 topics and 30,000 new mentions a month. Pro is $89 ($149) for 15 topics, 300,000 mentions and 10 team members. Enterprise is $249 ($399) for 100 topics and 1,000,000 mentions. Each topic takes unlimited keywords, and annual billing saves up to 40%.

Who it's for. Small teams and agencies tracking lots of keywords and brands on a tight budget.

Who it's not for. A team that needs years of mentions stored in the tool, or that sells market research to clients.

Its limit. Starter only stores 5,000 mentions per topic and allows one member. For a team, you need Pro at $89 billed annually.

How to move over. Group your Brandwatch queries by topic (your brand, a competitor, a theme): one Awario topic holds all their keywords. The free trial opens Starter with no card, enough to check the noise on your brand before you pay.

YouScan: listening to images and logos

Best for visual brands

Why switch to YouScan. YouScan reads images. It spots your logo and products in photos where nobody types your name. Starter is $499 a month, billed annually, for 3 queries, up to 15,000 mentions a month, unlimited users, one dashboard and 10 questions a month to its AI analysis assistant. Unlimited is a custom quote.

Who it's for. Consumer goods, fashion and food brands whose customers post photos more than reviews.

Who it's not for. A B2B brand that mostly gets talked about in articles and forums.

Its limit. Export, API and advanced visual insights are on Unlimited only, by quote. After a Brandwatch exit, check this before you sign: export is what lets you leave someday. There's no trial listed, only a demo.

How to move over. With 3 queries on Starter, keep your three most-read topics and send the rest to a cheaper tool. In the demo, ask them to track your logo over the same period as your last Brandwatch export so you can compare.

Talkwalker by Hootsuite: staying enterprise, differently

Enterprise replacement

Why switch to Talkwalker. It's Brandwatch's direct rival on depth of analysis, now part of Hootsuite. There are three plans (Core, Analyze, Business), all quoted after a demo. If your insights team needs a tool in this league, it's one of the few real options.

Who it's for. Large brands and agencies producing brand research and crisis reports for leadership.

Who it's not for. A team leaving Brandwatch precisely because of opaque pricing and annual contracts.

Its limit. It's the same model: no public price, no self-serve trial, a negotiated contract. Switching tools won't fix the contract problem on its own.

How to move over. Use the negotiation to write in what you missed at Brandwatch: a reminder before renewal, a short notice period, and a full data export at the end of the term. Ask for the demo to rerun your three main queries over the same period.

Meltwater: news and social in one tool

Best for media coverage

Why switch to Meltwater. Meltwater starts from media monitoring and adds social. If your team tracks press coverage as closely as online conversation, you replace two tools with one.

Who it's for. Comms and PR teams at large companies.

Who it's not for. A team trying to get away from quote-based contracts: Meltwater works the same way.

Its limit. Pricing is by quote, there's no self-serve trial, and you must cancel at least 60 days before the end of the term. Read our guide to switching from Meltwater before you sign: it's the same calendar trap, seen from the other side.

How to move over. In the demo, have them replay a week of mentions you've already exported from Brandwatch, news included. Coverage gaps show up fast.

Sprout Social: publish, reply and listen in one place

Best for managing and listening

Why switch to Sprout Social. If your team mainly used Brandwatch's social media management product, Sprout Social does the same job with prices on the page. Essentials is $79 per seat per month billed annually ($99 monthly), then Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399. The trial runs 30 days with no card.

Who it's for. Social media teams that publish, handle messages and want simple listening in the same tool.

Who it's not for. An insights team: Sprout's listening is built for day-to-day management first.

Its limit. Listening is a paid add-on, available from Standard up, priced in a demo. And the bill grows with every seat.

How to move over. During the trial, reconnect your profiles and rebuild your inbox first, then your publishing calendar. Get the listening price before day 30. Our guide to switching from Sprout Social lists what you'll want to export someday.

Agorapulse and Mention: management first, listening on top

Best value for management plus listening

Why switch to Agorapulse. Agorapulse owns the listening tool Mention and prices its management plans in the open. Standard is $79 per user per month billed annually ($99 monthly), Professional $119 ($149), Advanced $149 ($199), with 10 profiles included. The trial runs 30 days with no card, and a free plan kicks in afterwards.

Who it's for. Teams that run their social channels every day and want reasonable listening alongside.

Who it's not for. A team looking for Brandwatch-level analysis.

Its limit. Advanced Listening is an add-on, demo only, with no listed price. Mention now sells a single Company plan, billed monthly or annually (two months free), with its price on its pricing page, and history and API as add-ons, and its publishing and reply features are being progressively retired.

How to move over. Start with profiles and the inbox during the trial, then ask for the Advanced Listening price with your Brandwatch query list in hand. Our guide to switching from Agorapulse also covers its export limits.

Brandwatch and 8 alternatives side by side

Our default picks: Brand24 for public pricing, Mentionlytics to equip a whole team, Awario if every dollar counts. For a sense of scale, take a 3-person team tracking 10 queries. At Mentionlytics, Essential covers it (10 rules, 10 users) for $169 a month billed annually. At Awario, Pro covers 15 topics and 10 members for $89. At Brand24, you need Pro (12 keywords) at $399. YouScan, with 3 queries on Starter, already means a custom quote.

Exit plan

Leave Brandwatch in six steps

Order matters. The first two steps protect your money, the rest protect your data and your monitoring. Start at least three months before the renewal date.

01

Read the contract and find your notice date

First

Find the signed contract, not just the last invoice. Note three things: the end date, the required notice, and whether there's an auto-renewal clause. Your contract alone sets the notice period, so read the clause word for word.

Send your cancellation in writing, well before the deadline, and keep Brandwatch's written confirmation. Without it, you have nothing to show if a renewal invoice arrives.

Time
one hour
Risk if missed
another full year
02

List your queries, alerts and dashboards

Pricing basis

Build a sheet with one row per query: the full Boolean string, the sources tracked, monthly mention volume, who reads it and what it's for. Add your alerts, dashboards and the reports that go to leadership.

That sheet gives you the real price at each alternative, since they bill by keywords, rules or topics. It also becomes your checklist on switchover day.

Time
half a day
Output
one row per query
03

Export early, at 5,000 mentions a day

Longest step

App exports are capped at 5,000 mentions a day for the whole organization, and the counter resets at midnight UTC. Do the math: 150,000 mentions take 30 days of exports. Start with the mentions you can't find anywhere else.

Export reports and dashboards as PDFs too. For Reddit, legacy history is gone since 2026: only the last 12 to 13 months can still come out. If you use the API, the limit is 30 calls every 10 minutes.

Time
several weeks
What no longer exports

04

Rewrite your queries in the new tool

Trial

Every tool has its own logic. Brand24 thinks in keywords and exclusions, Mentionlytics in rules, Awario in topics that hold many keywords. Don't copy your queries one to one: start from your inventory and drop the ones nobody reads.

Only start the trial once your inventory is ready. A 14-day trial goes fast if you spend it hunting for logins.

Time
one to two weeks
Risk if rushed

05

Run both tools in parallel

Check

For two to four weeks, track the same topics in both tools and compare mention volumes day by day. A big gap usually means a missing exclusion, a wrong language setting or a missing source.

Focus on the sources that matter most to you: news sites, Reddit, forums. That's where tools differ most.

Time
two to four weeks

06

Move alerts, reports and users

Last step

Rebuild crisis alerts first, then the reports leadership reads, then everything else. Tell each recipient about the new format and the new sender address.

Turn off Brandwatch alerts the same day so a crisis doesn't trigger two conflicting alerts. Keep your exports archived for at least a year.

Exit pitfalls

What makes a Brandwatch exit go wrong

The same mistakes show up again and again in former customers' reviews. None of them are technical. They're calendar and math slips, and each one costs more than the time it would have taken to avoid it.

Trusting last year's terms

A contract that used to renew manually may have changed at the last signature. Reread the most recent signed version, and set a reminder 120 days before renewal, not 30.

Starting the export in the final week

At 5,000 mentions a day for the whole organization, one week gets you 35,000 mentions. If two teams export at the same time, they share that quota.

Counting on Brandwatch to keep your data

No retention policy is published. Assume anything not exported before the contract ends is gone.

Copying queries word for word

A twenty-line Boolean query doesn't translate one to one. Start from the need (a brand, a competitor, a theme) and check the noise during the trial.

Comparing entry prices instead of real cost

A $29 tool for 3 topics and a $169 tool for 10 users don't compare on a homepage. Run the numbers from your inventory: queries, monthly mentions, number of readers.

Signing a new contract with no exit clause

At Talkwalker or Meltwater, negotiate a renewal reminder, a short notice period and a full export at term end from day one. At YouScan, make sure your plan includes export.

  • Signed contract reread, notice date noted
  • Written cancellation sent and confirmed
  • Inventory of queries, alerts and reports
  • Exports scheduled at 5,000 mentions a day
  • Two to four weeks running in parallel
  • Crisis alerts rebuilt first
FAQ · 8 questions

Brandwatch alternatives: FAQ

  • What is the best Brandwatch alternative?

For most small businesses and agencies, Brand24: public pricing from $199 a month billed annually, a monthly option and a 14-day trial with no card. If the whole team needs access, Mentionlytics gives you 10 users from $169. For an enterprise team that wants the same depth, Talkwalker by Hootsuite is the direct alternative. Our social listening ranking covers the rest.

  • How much does Brandwatch cost?

Brandwatch doesn't publish prices: you have to go through a demo. Contracts are negotiated annually, and the old Essentials plan no longer exists. For comparison, Awario Pro is $89 a month billed annually.

  • Does Brandwatch have a free trial?

No. The pricing page only offers a free demo. Among the alternatives, Brand24 gives you 14 days with no card, Sprout Social and Agorapulse 30 days with no card, and Awario opens its Starter plan for free with no card.

  • Is there a free Brandwatch alternative?

Not really. Google Alerts is free, but it only covers the web, with no social media and no sentiment. The closest thing on a small budget is Awario Starter at $29 a month billed annually, or Agorapulse's free plan after the trial if you mostly manage social channels.

  • What is cheaper than Brandwatch?

Almost every tool with public pricing. Awario starts at $29 a month billed annually, Mentionlytics at $49, Sprout Social and Agorapulse at $79 per seat or user, Brand24 at $199. Even YouScan's Starter, at $499 a month billed annually, comes to about $6,000 a year.

  • How do I cancel Brandwatch, and how much notice do I need?

In writing, within the notice period in your contract: Brandwatch publishes no standard notice, so read the clause in your signed version. Check for an auto-renewal clause and keep the written confirmation.

  • How do I export my Brandwatch data before leaving?

From the app, within the cap of 5,000 mentions a day for the whole organization, reset at midnight UTC. Start several weeks before the contract ends. Through the API, the limit is 30 calls every 10 minutes. Legacy Reddit history no longer exports since 2026.

  • Brandwatch vs Meltwater vs Talkwalker: which one should I choose?

Brandwatch for conversation analysis, Meltwater if news coverage matters as much as social, Talkwalker by Hootsuite for a like-for-like Brandwatch replacement. All three are quote-based and annual. If Meltwater is on your list, read our guide to switching from Meltwater.
