Glide vs Softr 2026

Short answer: pick Glide if the app is mainly for an internal team that opens it on their phones, out in the field, on top of data that already lives in a spreadsheet. Pick Softr if you're opening a web portal to clients, members or partners, with logins, per-person permissions and payments.

We compared both current price lists line by line, then went through both vendors' community forums. Below: the yearly bill for four real setups, the email-domain rule that quietly inflates the invoice, the Airtable slowdowns worth knowing about, where your data is hosted, and four tools to look at if neither one fits.

Five rounds

Criterion by criterion, head to head

The same five criteria as our full reviews, scored out of 5. Softr takes three rounds, two end in a tie.

Round 1 · Ease of use

01 Round 1: shipping a first app people actually use.

Glide
4.5/5
WinnerSoftr
Softr
4.7/5
Our verdictEase of use · Winner : Softr

Both rank among the easiest no-code builders out there. The difference is where you start. Glide starts from your data: point it at a spreadsheet or a Glide Table and it immediately suggests a list, a detail screen and a form. With a clean file, you'll have a usable app the same afternoon. Computed columns (formulas that live on each row) handle a lot of logic without extra tools.

Softr starts from the use case. You describe your portal to the AI Co-Builder, launched in the spring of 2026: it asks clarifying questions, then assembles the database, pages, permissions and automations. You take it from there, block by block. For a client portal or a directory, it's the fastest route we know of.

The friction points mirror each other. In Glide, relations across more than four or five tables get messy fast, and you live with Glide's layout. In Softr, pixel-level design control is limited and the advanced settings (custom code, API connectors) sit on the higher plans. One forum regular put it well: Glide is great for prototyping and internal tools, Softr feels more natural as soon as the app leaves the building.

→Glide

Choose Glide if you're starting from a spreadsheet your team already fills in every day.

→Softr

Choose Softr if you'd rather describe the portal and let AI draft version one.

Round 2 · Value for money

02 Round 2: what actually pushes the bill up.

Glide
3.5/5
WinnerSoftr
Softr
4.1/5
Our verdictValue for money · Winner : Softr

Glide starts at $19 a month billed yearly, Softr at $49 (Basic, 25 users). After that, it's all about how users are counted, and that's where most comparisons get it wrong.

On Glide, someone signing in with a personal address (Gmail, Outlook) costs nothing extra on Maker: personal users are unlimited there. Someone signing in with a work address needs Business ($199 a month billed yearly), which includes 30 of them, then $5 a month each. On top of that come data updates: every write to Google Sheets, Airtable or the API counts, even when the value doesn't change, and each update over quota costs $0.02. On Business, 15,000 updates a month is 10,000 too many, or $200 extra. One forum user got a $189 charge when he expected a $30 overage.

On Softr, each plan sets a number of signed-in users, whatever their email: up to 10 on free, 25 on Basic ($49 a month billed yearly), 50 on Professional ($139), 500 on Business ($269). Nothing is billed per write: automations are capped each month and pause at the cap instead of charging you.

Softr's trap is the jump from Professional to Business. At user number 51, the bill goes from $139 to $269 a month, or $1,560 more over a year. On the other hand, Business then covers up to 500 people at no extra cost: at 200 clients, that's about $1.35 per person per month.

→Glide

Choose Glide if your users sign in with personal emails and write little data.

→Softr

Choose Softr if you're opening the app to dozens or hundreds of clients: Business covers 500 of them for $269 a month.

Round 3 · Features and depth

03 Round 3: two complete tools, built for different jobs.

Glide
4.5/5
Tie
Softr
4.5/5
Our verdictFeatures and depth · Tie

A tie, because each one is excellent on its own turf and average on the other's.

Glide owns the field. Its components scan barcodes, take photos, capture GPS or a signature, and the app installs on the home screen like a native one. Computed columns, table relations and chained actions (update a row, send an email, change screens) do most of the heavy lifting. Workflows run on a schedule, on an incoming email or on a webhook (a signal sent by another app). Its most-cited limit: 25,000 rows per app when data comes from a spreadsheet. Past that you move to Big Tables (100,000 rows on Business), which don't support every computed column.

Softr owns the portal. Permissions work at page, block, record and field level: a client sees only their invoices, a partner only their files. Stripe blocks take one-time or recurring payments and lock pages to paying members. Softr Databases scale to 1 million records on Business, and native Workflows chain actions without Zapier. The weak spots: less layout freedom than a tool like WeWeb, and a web app that, even installed, doesn't replace a real field app.

→Glide

Choose Glide for mobile data entry: inventory, service calls, site visits, inspections.

→Softr

Choose Softr for a client area, a directory, an intranet or a paid membership site.

Round 4 · Support

04 Round 4: who helps when you're stuck.

Glide
3.5/5
WinnerSoftr
Softr
4.5/5
Our verdictCustomer support · Winner : Softr

Softr wins clearly. Its forum is active, staff answer under their own names, and the docs stay current, right down to the pricing. Customer reviews often mention friendly, precise support. The caveat: when the issue sits in the data source, it takes longer. In late 2025, portals running on Airtable took 10 to 30 seconds to load for several weeks while Softr rebuilt its connector.

On Glide, human support depends on the plan. Free gets the community only, Explorer an AI assistant, Maker standard support, and you need Business for Express support. The forum is rich and friendly, but it can't touch billing, and that's exactly where most complaints land: a usage screen that only showed the current period, refund requests that drag on. Glide has promised usage alerts; until then, check the Usage screen weekly.

→Glide

Choose Glide if you learn from docs and the forum and stay under your quotas.

→Softr

Choose Softr if you want a team that answers, even on the smaller plans.

Round 5 · Integrations

05 Round 5: plugging the app into your data and tools.

Glide
4.0/5
Tie
Softr
4.0/5
Our verdictIntegrations · Tie

Same score, different shape. Softr opens more sources from day one: its own database, Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion and about fifteen others on every plan, plus HubSpot and SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MariaDB) from Business. Glide saves its best sources for the top tiers: Sheets from Maker, Airtable and Excel from Business, and SQL, BigQuery, HubSpot or Salesforce on Enterprise only.

Glide wins on internal plumbing: Glide Tables never consume updates, its API arrives with Business, and Workflows accept webhooks. For everything else, both go through Make, Zapier or n8n.

Two forum tips worth knowing. If your Softr portal reads Airtable, connect it with a personal access token rather than OAuth, and filter each block by an Airtable view so it only loads the records it needs: several users saw real speed gains. If your Glide app writes to Google Sheets, batch the writes (one submitted form counts as a single update) and never duplicate a production app on the same sheet: that's how one user ended up with a $649 bill.

One more piece of context: Airtable is changing hands in 2026. Softr is pushing its own database as the fallback. If your data is already in Airtable there's no rush, but keep a fresh export.

→Glide

Choose Glide if everything fits in Glide Tables or a Google Sheet, plus some API work.

→Softr

Choose Softr if your data lives in Airtable, Notion, HubSpot or a SQL database.

The shortlist

Choose by your situation

Choose Glide if…

  • Your team logs data in the field: photos, barcodes, GPS, signatures, all from the phone.
  • Your data already lives in a Google Sheet everyone fills in.
  • Your users sign in with personal emails: Maker accepts unlimited personal users for $49.
  • You want a public, login-free app (catalog, field directory) with no user cap.
  • You're prototyping an internal tool before deciding whether it deserves more.
  • US data hosting is fine for your legal team.

Choose Softr if…

  • You're opening a space to clients, members or partners, each with their own permissions.
  • You'll have more than 30 outside users: Business covers 500 for $269 a month, instead of $5 per work-email user on Glide.
  • Your data is in Airtable, Notion, HubSpot or a SQL database.
  • You sell access: Stripe blocks handle one-time and recurring payments.
  • You need EU hosting, with a SOC 2 Type II report on hand.
  • You'd rather describe your app to an AI and refine it than start from a spreadsheet.

What if neither fits?

Four tools worth a look

Glide and Softr don't cover everything. If your company runs on Google Workspace, if your portal has a thousand clients, if you need an App Store listing or if you want to own the code, these four do better on one specific point. Each card states its limit too.

01

AppSheet: the internal app you may already be paying for

Google Workspace

AppSheet, Google's no-code builder, is the cheapest answer if your company already pays for Google Workspace: the Core plan ($10 per user per month on its own) is included in most paid Workspace plans. It reads Sheets and Drive (enterprise data connections on Enterprise Plus), works offline and secures data per user.

Best for: internal teams on Google who want a field app without a new subscription. The catch: a plainer interface than Glide, and per-user pricing that climbs fast outside Workspace. Tip: check your Workspace admin console for AppSheet Core before paying for anything; for a public app with no login, Publisher Pro is $50 per app per month with unlimited users.

02

Noloco: a portal plan with 1,000 clients included

Client portal

Noloco plays on Softr's turf with a far more generous count for big portals. The Build plan is $65 a month billed yearly ($79 monthly) and includes 10 team seats, 1,000 clients, 25,000 records and 3,000 workflow runs a month. It connects to Airtable, Google Sheets, Postgres, MySQL, Supabase, Xano, HubSpot and Stripe.

Best for: agencies and service firms opening a space to hundreds of clients. The catch: there's nothing between Build and Enterprise, and extra records come in packs ($25 per 25,000). Tip: with 200 clients, Noloco Build costs $780 a year against $3,228 on Softr Business, so run the numbers with your real client count.

03

Adalo: a real app on the App Store and Google Play

Native app

If your client insists on a store listing, neither Glide nor Softr will get you there: both ship apps you install from the browser. Adalo publishes a real app to the App Store and Google Play. The Builder plan is $52 a month billed yearly ($65 monthly) for 2 published apps, and the price doesn't depend on users or actions.

Best for: consumer apps or client apps that need to be in the stores. The catch: thinner logic than Glide for internal tools, plus store fees ($99 a year for Apple, $25 once for Google). Tip: pay quarterly or yearly, the discount reaches 20%. See also our Adalo vs Glide comparison.

04

WeWeb: a custom portal you can export the code from

Custom build

WeWeb is a visual front-end builder with more design freedom than Softr, and something neither Glide nor Softr offers: code export and self-hosting. The Essential plan is $20 a month billed yearly, plus hosting for each live app (from $13 a month). Your end users cost nothing.

Best for: teams that want a pixel-precise portal without being locked into one vendor forever. The catch: you need a separate backend (Supabase, Xano or WeWeb's own), and the learning curve is longer than Softr's. Tip: since users aren't counted, WeWeb turns into the cheapest option past a few hundred clients. See our Softr vs WeWeb comparison.

FAQ · 10 questions

Frequently asked questions

  • Can you use Glide and Softr together?
Yes, and it's a common setup. Both read Google Sheets and Airtable: keep one data source, give your field team a Glide app to log data, and give clients a Softr portal to view it. Watch the writes: every change Glide makes in a spreadsheet counts as an update, while Softr's writes cost nothing extra.
  • Is Glide really free?
Free to build, not to publish. Glide's free plan keeps apps as drafts, with one builder and 25,000 rows. To put an app live you need Explorer, at $19 a month billed yearly. Softr is the other way around: its free plan publishes, but caps you at 10 signed-in users.
  • How much does Softr cost, and how does it count users?
Softr sells plans by tiers of signed-in users: free up to 10, Basic at $49 (25 users), Professional at $139 (50) and Business at $269 (500) a month billed yearly, then Enterprise on quote. It doesn't charge for writes or data updates. Count your users before you pick: going from 50 to 51 people takes the bill from $139 to $269.
  • Do employees on Gmail cost more?
Not on Softr: everyone who signs in counts as one user against your plan's quota, Gmail or work email alike. On Glide the email changes everything: personal emails are unlimited on Maker, work emails are what cost money (Business, 30 included, then $5 a month each).
  • Which one is better for GDPR or EU data rules?
Softr starts ahead: it hosts data in Germany by default and has a SOC 2 Type II report. Glide runs on US servers on Google Cloud, with no EU option. GDPR doesn't ban US hosting, but it requires a transfer mechanism and more paperwork. If you handle health or HR data for EU residents, loop in your privacy lead early.
  • Can I publish a Glide or Softr app to the App Store?
No, neither one. Both produce PWAs, web apps you install from the browser to the home screen. For an internal team that's usually enough. If you need a store listing, look at Adalo or FlutterFlow, and budget $99 a year for an Apple developer account.
  • How do I move from Glide to Softr, or the other way?
There's no migration button: only the data moves. Export each Glide table to CSV (check computed columns, they don't always come along), import into Softr Databases or Airtable, then rebuild screens, permissions and automations. Plan one to two weeks for a mid-sized portal. The easy path is to keep data in Airtable or Sheets from day one, so switching only touches the front end.
  • Glide Classic or GlideOS: which one is compared here?
Glide Classic, the original builder billed on users and updates. GlideOS is a newer product where AI builds the app and you pay in credits (Basic $25, Plus from $50, Pro from $125 a month). They have separate accounts and invoices, with no migration path between them. Pick one before you start.
  • Airtable is being acquired: should Softr users leave Airtable?
Not in a hurry. The Airtable acquisition was announced in the summer of 2026, and nothing so far suggests a change that would break a Softr portal. Softr is pushing its own database as a fallback. Keep a regular export of your tables and watch Airtable's pricing over the coming months.
  • Is there a nonprofit discount?
On Softr, yes: the vendor advertises 50% off for nonprofits and schools. Glide doesn't list an equivalent discount on its pricing page. For a small nonprofit with a handful of volunteers, Softr's free plan (up to 10 users) may be all you need.
