Overview

Why a revenue team plugs Chargebee into Claude

Billing questions tend to sit in a queue: someone in finance or support has to open Chargebee, filter customers, cross-check invoices and export a list. With the connector, you ask Claude directly and it looks up the customer, the subscription, the invoices and the payments behind the answer, then explains what it found.

A customer's full picture in one question. Support asks why an account was charged twice. Claude finds the customer by email, lists their subscriptions and invoices, then reads the matching transactions to show what happened.

Revenue questions without a report. Claude can pull invoices, credit notes and events for a period and reason across them, which is handy for spotting failed payments or refunds that never got a credit note.

Chargebee answers on tap. Two tools answer from Chargebee's own documentation and API references, and can produce integration code samples for your developers.

What it does not do: nothing documented edits a live customer, subscription or invoice. The six tools that add data come from Chargebee's onboarding set, which the publisher says works only on test and sandbox sites. Six other tools have no description at all. Nothing starts on its own either; Claude acts only while you talk to it. If you want a new subscription to reach your CRM automatically, that is an automation, covered on our Chargebee n8n integration page.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The terms around this connector, explained once.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can use it while it answers you.
Tool
One named action a connector gives Claude. Claude picks the tools it needs by itself, and the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The Chargebee sign-in screen where you grant the access Claude will use. Given once per person, and it can be taken back.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before doing something that changes an account, shown inside the conversation when it matters.
MCP
The open standard connectors rely on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Chargebee.
Connect

Connect Chargebee to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Chargebee in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look up Chargebee. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable it for the organization first.

  2. 02

    Sign in to Chargebee

Press Connect on its row and log in to Chargebee in the window Chargebee opens. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again from the same row.

  3. 03

    Check the authorization screen

Read the screen before accepting. It belongs to Chargebee, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. Chargebee also narrows it to what your own Chargebee user level allows.

Tools

The 45 tools, split by what they do

Chargebee gives Claude 45 tools: 33 that read your account, 6 that change something in it, and 6 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it adds to a test site, and six names no source explains. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

  • 33 read
  • 6 write
  • 6 not documented

What Claude reads (33)

Watch out
test and sandbox sites only.

Undocumented (6)

6 tools

On the directory sheet, with no matching line in Chargebee's documentation. We do not guess a role from a name.

data_lookup-get_filter_conditions_metadata_tool

This name appears on the directory sheet, and no line in Chargebee's documentation matches it without ambiguity. With no official description, this page says nothing about its role.

Watch out
the general approval rule below covers it like any other tool.

data_lookup-get_response_field_metadata_tool

Same situation here: the directory lists the name, and no source describes it, neither Chargebee nor any Claude page. We would rather flag the gap than read meaning into the wording.

Watch out
it falls under the same approval rule as the rest.

import_features_and_entitlements_tool

Listed on the directory sheet, but no line of Chargebee's documentation matches it without ambiguity, and no sentence describes it. So its behaviour stays unknown here. The directory gives the name, nothing else.

Watch out
treat it under the general approval rule.

import_product_catalog_tool

No official source describes this name. It sits on the directory sheet with nothing in Chargebee's pages to explain it, and this page will not guess from how it sounds.

Watch out
the general approval rule is what applies to it.

import_customers_tool

The directory shows this name; Chargebee's documentation has no sentence that matches it. Without a source, its effect on your site is not documented anywhere we could read.

Watch out
like the others in this group, it sits under the general approval rule.

import_quotes_tool

Only the name is public: no Chargebee page and no Claude page describes what it does. This page leaves it at that rather than filling the silence. No documentation line matches it.

Watch out
the general approval rule below still covers it.
Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude pauses and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone, right in the conversation.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions pass without a prompt, and they can narrow a connector for the whole organization, for example reading allowed and writing closed. Nobody lifts that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected, and Chargebee adds its own layer: with sign-in access, tools are further limited by the Chargebee user's access level. Chargebee also warns that you remain responsible for actions an assistant takes.

Plans

Which Claude plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory states plan availability. That answer is published nowhere, connector by connector.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens the connector for the organization before members connect. Chargebee's own setup, the MCP Access toggle and the toolsets, is a separate step on the publisher's side. For the live state, open the connector's sheet in the directory.

Limits

Where the Claude Chargebee connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it replies, so nothing happens when a payment fails or a subscription renews.

On live billing data, the documented tools only look things up; the ones that add data are fenced off to test and sandbox sites by Chargebee. A tool list is still an observed floor, since an administrator can open actions no public sheet shows. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not control a publisher's tools. All of this comes from the directory sheet and Chargebee's documentation; no Claude help article covers the connector. For a case of official sources in open conflict, see our Claude gmail connector page.

Two official sources disagree

Does the Claude connector include Chargebee's catalogue and demo-data tools?

  • Claude directory sheet ↗September 2026The sheet lists 45 tools, including the onboarding ones that generate a catalogue, demo customers, features and branding.
  • Chargebee MCP documentation ↗Read September 2026, undatedChargebee says its Claude connector gives access to the Knowledge Base and Data Lookup servers, without naming the onboarding server.

What this page followsThe sheet is the published tool list of this connector, so we document the onboarding tools, with Chargebee's own restriction to test and sandbox sites. What actually shows on your account also depends on which toolsets your Chargebee admin has switched on.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Chargebee connector

01What can Claude do with the Chargebee connector?
Claude can answer billing questions from your Chargebee data and from Chargebee's documentation. Its reading tools look up customers, plans, add-ons, items and prices, subscriptions, payment intents, invoices and their PDF links, credit notes, transactions and events. Two more answer product questions and produce code samples. Six onboarding tools add demo data, catalogue items, features, imported subscriptions or branding, and Chargebee limits those to test and sandbox sites, never live ones.
02Can Claude change invoices or subscriptions in Chargebee?
Not on live data, as far as the sources go. None of the documented tools edits an existing customer, subscription, invoice or payment. The six tools that add something belong to Chargebee's onboarding set: they generate demo customers, catalogues, features and entitlements, import subscriptions or set up branding, and Chargebee says that server is only available on test and sandbox sites. Six other tools have no description, so nothing can be said about them.
03Does Claude ask before it acts in Chargebee?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for someone. No source describes a specific confirmation for any Chargebee tool, and Chargebee itself only says approval behaviour depends on the client, so Claude's general rule is what applies. The publisher adds that you stay responsible for actions an assistant performs. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, an owner can close the writing side for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is the Chargebee connector on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner switching them on first on Team and Enterprise. On the publisher's side, a Chargebee admin must also turn on MCP access. The connector's sheet in the directory shows the current state.
05Does Claude see every customer in our Chargebee site?
Only what your own access allows. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected, and Chargebee narrows it further: with sign-in access, the available tools are limited by the signed-in user's access level in Chargebee, on top of the toolsets an admin has enabled. So a support agent and a finance lead can get different answers to the same question. On Team and Enterprise, an owner can also restrict the connector for all members.
06Why does Claude say it cannot reach my Chargebee site?
The usual reason is a switch on Chargebee's side. Each Chargebee server has an MCP Access toggle that an admin must turn on under Settings, Configure Chargebee, Agentic AI, MCP Servers, and each toolset can be enabled separately. If your site uses Multi-Business Entity, Chargebee says sign-in access is not supported there. And if you expected the setup tools, remember that Chargebee reserves them for test and sandbox sites only.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with Chargebee?
They do different jobs. Claude works in a conversation: you ask why a customer was charged twice or which invoices are unpaid, it looks things up and explains, then stops. It never reacts on its own when a payment fails or a subscription renews. When you want each new subscription pushed to your CRM or accounting tool automatically, that background work belongs to an automation platform rather than to a chat connector.
