Overview

What changes when Claude can reach your Dremio Cloud project

Dremio Cloud sits on top of your lakehouse and its semantic layer. Once the connector is set up, an analyst or a data lead asks a question in plain words and Claude finds the right table, checks its columns and runs the query itself, under the identity of the person who signed in.

An answer without writing SQL. A finance manager asks for last quarter's revenue by region; Claude locates the dataset with SemanticSearch, reads its columns with GetSchemaOfTable, then runs a SELECT through RunSqlQuery.

Trust in a number. Before a figure goes into a board deck, GetTableOrViewLineage shows which tables and views feed it, so you know where it comes from.

A health check of the platform. A data engineer asks why yesterday's refresh failed: GetFailedJobDetails covers failed or cancelled jobs over the past 7 days, while BuildUsageReport and GetRelevantMetrics give usage by engine or project and cluster metrics.

What it does not do through these tools: the documented query tool runs SELECT statements only, and none of the 7 tools is described as creating or changing data. Dremio also mentions creating views, but ties that to no listed tool. Nothing runs on its own, either; for jobs on a schedule, an automation tool does that different work, as the Integrations hub explains.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The Claude terms this page relies on, defined once.

Connector
A link set up once between Claude and an account you already hold, so Claude can use that account while it answers your questions.
Tool
One named operation a connector opens to Claude. Claude decides which ones to call as it answers, and the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The sign-in page of the service, where you give Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and it can be withdrawn later.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before changing something in an account, shown in the conversation at the moment it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on, which is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service like Dremio.
Connect

Connect Dremio Cloud to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connector list

Go to Claude's settings, then Customize and Connectors, and find Dremio Cloud. In a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables it for the organization before members each authenticate on their own.

  2. 02

    Start from Dremio's row

Click Connect on the Dremio Cloud row and sign in through the window Dremio opens. That window is Dremio's, not Claude's. If the link breaks later, Disconnect then connect again.

  3. 03

    Read what you authorize

Look at Dremio's authorization screen before accepting. It is that screen, not Claude, that defines what the access covers, and you can revoke the access later from the Dremio side.

Tools

The 7 tools, all reading

Dremio Cloud gives Claude 7 tools: 7 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Dremio's tool catalogue describes each of the seven, and none of them changes data. Names stay as Claude shows them.

  • 7 read

What Claude reads (7)

7 tools

Seven tools that query, inspect or report on your Dremio project without altering it.

GetFailedJobDetails

Reviews jobs that failed or were cancelled over the past 7 days and gives Claude their details, so it can tell you which ones broke and help you read why.

When it helps
the morning dashboard is empty and the data engineer on call wants to know which query died overnight.

BuildUsageReport

Produces a usage report grouped by engine or by project. Claude reads the result back to you, which turns a consumption question into a short answer in the chat.

When it helps
the platform owner prepares a monthly review and wants to see which project uses the most resources.

GetRelevantMetrics

Pulls the Prometheus metrics Dremio's documentation associates with the cluster, giving Claude figures to reason about performance rather than guesses.

When it helps
queries feel slow since Monday and you want actual numbers in hand before you open a ticket with your platform team.

RunSqlQuery

Executes SELECT queries on your Dremio data and returns the rows to Claude, which can then summarise, compare or chart them for you in the conversation.

When it helps
a sales director asks for the ten biggest accounts by revenue this year and has no SQL skills.
Watch out
the documentation limits it to SELECT statements, so it reads data and does not modify it.

GetSchemaOfTable

Reads the schema information of a table, such as its columns. Claude uses it to check what a dataset actually holds before it queries anything.

When it helps
you are unsure whether the orders table carries a currency column and want to check before asking for totals.

GetTableOrViewLineage

Traces where a table or a view comes from, upstream sources included. Claude can explain to you which datasets feed a given figure.

When it helps
a controller doubts a KPI and wants to know which raw tables sit behind the view it comes from.

Sourcegithub.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

SemanticSearch

Searches across the Dremio cluster by meaning rather than exact name, so Claude can find the dataset that matches a business term you use.

When it helps
a new analyst asks for churn figures without knowing what the relevant view is called.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it carries out on an account for someone. The request appears inside the conversation.

No source describes a confirmation for any Dremio tool in particular, so the default rule is the reference. Dremio adds that its hosted server carries the user's identity and authorization through every interaction, so access controls defined in Dremio still apply. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether a member may let actions run without a prompt, and can restrict what a connector does organization-wide. Claude sees only what the signed-in person can already see in Dremio.

Plans

Which plans include it

Among the 819 sheets in the official directory, not one shows plan availability. For Dremio Cloud, that answer is published nowhere.

What Anthropic publishes is a general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can connect. To see the current status for Dremio Cloud, check its sheet in the official directory, the only place that keeps it current.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls the Dremio tools while it answers, so no report runs itself every Monday and no alert fires when a job fails.

The information here comes only from Dremio: its documentation page and the tool catalogue of its open-source server. Neither the Claude help center nor Anthropic's developer docs cover this connector. A read-only tool list is an observed floor, not a guarantee, because an administrator can open actions that no public sheet shows. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not pick a publisher's tools or guarantee how they behave.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Dremio Cloud connector

01What can Claude do with the Dremio Cloud connector?
Claude can query and inspect your Dremio Cloud data in plain language. Its seven tools run SELECT queries, read table schemas, trace the lineage of tables and views, and search the cluster by meaning. Three more cover the platform itself: failed or cancelled jobs over the past 7 days, usage reports by engine or project, and Prometheus metrics for the cluster. Claude then summarises, compares or explains the results in the conversation.
02Can Claude write or delete data in Dremio Cloud?
Not through the tools listed today. All seven are described as reading, and the query tool is documented for SELECT statements only, so it does not insert, update or delete rows. Dremio mentions creating views through natural language, but no listed tool is tied to that, so this page does not promise it. A read-only list is an observed floor rather than a ceiling, since an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet.
03Does Claude ask before using the Dremio tools?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for someone. No source describes a confirmation specific to any Dremio tool, so that default rule applies to all seven. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt, and they can restrict what the connector is allowed to do for the whole organization, with no way for a member to override it.
04Which Claude plans is the Dremio Cloud connector on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The only place showing the current state for your account is the connector's sheet in the official directory, so check there before rolling it out to a team.
05Does Claude see all the data in our lakehouse?
No, Claude sees what the signed-in person can already see in Dremio and nothing more. Dremio says its hosted server carries the user's identity, authentication and authorization through every interaction, so access rules set in Dremio stay in force. What you accept on the authorization screen sets the scope, and you can revoke it later from the Dremio side. A colleague with wider rights does not extend yours by connecting too.
06What do I need on the Dremio side before connecting?
Dremio's documentation asks for a Native OAuth application in your Dremio project first, with Claude's callback addresses entered as redirect URLs. The custom connector then uses that application's client ID and the server address for your control plane, which differs for the US and European regions. Dremio gives one endpoint form for the US control plane and another for the European one, both ending with your project ID. Without that application, the sign-in has nothing to connect to.
07Claude or an automation tool for Dremio Cloud?
They solve different problems, so the right one depends on the job. Claude with the Dremio connector suits someone exploring data in a conversation, asking follow-up questions and checking where a number comes from. An automation tool suits work that must run by itself, such as a refresh on a schedule or a step triggered by an event. The Dremio connector never starts anything alone: every query begins with a question someone asks Claude.
