Overview

What changes once Otter is plugged in

Your recorded calls stop being a pile of recordings you have to open one by one. You ask Claude a plain question, it looks through the meetings Otter already holds for you, reads the transcript it needs, and answers in the chat with the source conversation behind it.

Find the call before you need it. A customer renewal is on Thursday and nobody remembers when pricing came up. search looks across your Otter meetings and returns an overview of the matches, so Claude can point you to the right one.

Work from the full text, not a recap. Once the meeting is found, fetch brings back the complete speech transcript. Claude can then draft a briefing, list the open questions or compare what two teams said, from the words that were actually spoken.

Check which account is talking. People with a personal and a work Otter login mix them up. get_user_info returns the name and email of the signed-in profile, which settles the question in one reply.

Now the part the directory sheet leaves out. By default, the sheet only exposes reading: nothing on it creates, edits or deletes a meeting, and a read-only list is a floor, not a promise. Claude only sees meetings you recorded or that a colleague in your workspace shared with you. A conversation link that was never shared with you stays closed, even pasted in the chat. And nothing runs on its own: no tool wakes up when a meeting ends. For that kind of background job you need an automation tool, a different trade; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will run into while connecting Otter.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own; the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and revocable.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with an action, shown in the conversation at the moment it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Otter to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Otter in the list

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Otter.ai. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector first before each member can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in to your Otter account in the window Otter opens itself. If the link breaks one day, use Disconnect and connect it again from the same row.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Read Otter's authorization screen before you accept. It belongs to the service, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. In Otter's own guide, this is the screen where you review the details and click Authorize access.

Tools

The 3 Otter tools, grouped by what they do

Otter.ai gives Claude 3 tools: 3 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

All three read. Otter's help article says Claude prompts for permission when it calls them, so expect a confirmation even for a lookup.

  • 3 read

What Claude reads (3)

3 tools

Three tools that look at your meetings and profile without changing anything.

get_user_info

Asks you first

Returns the name and email address of the Otter profile Claude is signed in with. Nothing about your meetings, just who the connection belongs to.

When it helps
you have two Otter logins and want to be sure Claude is searching the work account, not the personal one.
Watch out
Otter documents a permission prompt from Claude on this call too, even though it only reads a profile.

fetch

Asks you first

Pulls the complete speech transcript of one meeting or conversation, word for word, so Claude works from the source rather than a summary.

When it helps
you paste the Otter link of last week's board call and ask for the decisions that were taken.
Watch out
a pasted link only opens if that conversation was shared with you in Otter.

Approvals

What Claude asks you before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you. Otter adds its own note: Claude prompts for permission when it queries Otter's tools.

Otter's help article suggests setting each tool to Always allow in the connector settings. That is the publisher's recommendation, not Claude's default: keeping the prompt means you see every lookup before it runs. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, the owners decide whether members may skip prompts at all, and they can narrow what the connector may do for the whole organization. Claude works with your Otter rights and nothing more.

Plans

Which plans this is available on

Out of 819 directory sheets, not one shows availability by plan. The connector-by-connector answer is published nowhere: it is a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before members can connect. For the current state of this one, check its sheet in the official directory, the only place that shows it.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a meeting ends or a new transcript lands in Otter.

Everything known about this connector comes from Otter's own help article and the directory sheet; Claude's help centre has no page on it. The list of tools is an observed floor, not a promise: an admin can open actions that no public sheet shows. The verification badge on the sheet is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes. For a connector that also writes to your workspace, see the Claude asana connector.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Claude Otter.ai connector

01What can Claude do with the Otter.ai connector?
Claude can search your Otter meetings and read their transcripts from inside a conversation. The connector lists three tools: one looks up meetings and returns an overview of the matches, one pulls the full speech transcript of a meeting, and one returns the name and email of the signed-in Otter profile. With that, Claude can prepare you for a call, summarize a meeting you missed or compare what different teams said across several recordings.
02Can Claude edit or delete my Otter meetings?
Not with the tools the directory sheet shows. All three documented tools read: profile, search and transcript. None of them is described as creating, editing, deleting or recording anything in Otter. That list is a floor and not a guarantee, because an admin can open more than a public sheet shows. Check the tool list in your connector settings if it matters to you. Otter also says it has no public API key at this time, so nothing else is offered on that side.
03Does Claude ask before it searches my meetings?
Yes, according to Otter's help article, Claude prompts for permission when it queries Otter's tools, even for a plain search. You manage that per tool in the connector settings. Otter recommends Always allow, which is the publisher's suggestion rather than a default in Claude. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, the owners decide whether members may let actions through without a prompt, and they can narrow what the connector may do for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is the Otter.ai connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and no directory sheet shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector before members can sign in individually. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place that shows its current state for your account.
05Can Claude see every meeting in our Otter workspace?
No. Claude reaches the meetings you captured yourself and the ones other users in your workspace shared with you, nothing beyond that. A conversation link pasted in the chat only opens if that conversation was shared with you, and a colleague's private meeting never appears in a search. Access goes through Otter's sign-in with granular permissions, and Otter states that the assistant only reaches meetings you explicitly authorize. Owners on Team or Enterprise can also restrict the connector for the whole organization.
06Why does Claude fail to open an Otter link I pasted?
Because the conversation behind that link has not been shared with you in Otter. Otter's help article is explicit: fetching a transcript from a pasted conversation URL only works when that conversation is shared with your account. Ask the owner of the recording to share it with you inside Otter, then paste the link again in the chat. A link copied from a colleague's browser is not enough on its own.
07Claude or an automation tool for Otter.ai?
They do not answer the same need, so it depends on the task. Claude works inside a conversation: you ask, it searches your meetings and reads transcripts, and nothing happens once you stop typing. It does not react on its own when a meeting ends or a transcript is ready. For a job that runs in the background on an event, that is what an automation tool is for. For answers on demand from your recorded calls, the connector fits.
