Overview

What changes when Claude can query Twelve Data

With this connector, you ask Claude a market question in plain words, say the RSI of a stock or its latest earnings, and it calls Twelve Data's tools while it answers: prices, technical indicators, fundamentals, funds, filings and news, through your Twelve Data account.

A quick read of a ticker. get_quote returns a real-time snapshot with open, high, low, close and volume, and get_technical_indicator computes indicators such as RSI, MACD or ATR on the same symbol.

Fundamentals without a filing cabinet. get_financials brings income statement, balance sheet or cash flow, annual or quarterly, while get_statistics adds valuation ratios, margins and dividend yield.

The market calendar. get_earnings, get_dividends, get_splits and get_ipo_calendar show what is coming up, and get_regulatory_data lists insider trades or SEC filings.

What it will not do: no tool places an order, manages a portfolio or trades on your behalf. Market indices, options and bonds are not supported by the price tools; Twelve Data points to ETF proxies instead. And nothing runs on its own: Claude calls these tools while it answers you, it does not watch prices. A scheduled alert belongs to an automation platform; our Integrations hub lists the ones we cover.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

Claude's vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can use it while it answers you.
Tool
One named capability a connector gives Claude. Claude decides which to call; the directory sheet lists all 27 of them by name.
Authorization
The service's sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude uses. For Twelve Data, a browser login to your account. Revocable.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it changes something in an account for you, shown in the chat at that moment.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors: it is what lets an assistant like Claude request data from a service such as Twelve Data.
Connect

Connect Twelve Data to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

Find Twelve Data in the connector list

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize, then Connectors, and look for Twelve Data. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization before members connect.

  2. 02

Log in to your Twelve Data account

Click Connect. Twelve Data says a browser window opens for you to log in, and your personal API key is then linked automatically, with nothing to copy. If the link breaks, Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Look at what the Twelve Data screen asks before you authorize. It is the service's screen, not Claude's, and it decides what the access covers. You can withdraw it later the same way.

Tools

The 27 tools, sorted by what they do

Twelve Data gives Claude 27 tools: 25 that read your account, 2 that change something in it.

Twenty-five tools read market data and two belong to a sign-in flow. The descriptions used here come from the code of Twelve Data's open-source server, where all 27 names on the directory sheet exist; the hosted connector's own tool list requires a login and is not public. The names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

auth_status

Reports the current authentication state for debugging: which credentials are configured and whether sign-in tokens exist.

When it helps
Claude returns errors on every request and you want to know whether the connection itself is the problem.
Watch out
it says nothing about market data; it only describes the login state.

Watch out
Twelve Data limits this tool to stocks and ETFs.

Sign-in tools marked as writing (2)

2 tools

Two tools from the open-source server's login flow. They store credentials, not market data. No source describes a confirmation for them, so the general rule below applies.

oauth_configure

Approval: see the rule

In Twelve Data's open-source server, saves OAuth credentials to a local configuration file, to be run once before the login tool.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation for this tool; the general approval rule below applies.
When it helps
someone runs the server locally and has not set credentials yet.
Watch out
no source says what it does on the hosted connector.

oauth_login

Approval: see the rule

Starts a login through OAuth, in Twelve Data's open-source server: a browser window opens for you to authorize access, then the API token is fetched from your profile and saved locally.

What Claude asks for

When it helps
the authentication status shows no valid token.
Watch out
no source says what this tool does on the hosted connector.

Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

Claude's default is to stop and ask before any action it takes on an account for you. Here, 25 tools only read market data, and the 2 others belong to sign-in: no source describes a confirmation specific to them.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a new prompt, and they can restrict what a connector does for the whole organization, keeping reads open and blocking writes, for instance. No member overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected it, never more. The official per-tool read or write label only appears in a connected account's settings.

Plans

Which Claude plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability by plan. Connector by connector, that answer is not published anywhere.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector before members connect. Twelve Data's own subscription is a separate question and decides how much data you can pull. For this connector's state, open its directory sheet.

Limits

Where the Claude Twelve Data connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude queries Twelve Data while it answers you; nothing fires when a price crosses a threshold.

A tool list made mostly of reads is an observed floor, not a guarantee: an admin can open actions that no public sheet shows. The verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not decide a publisher's tools. Only Twelve Data documents this connector, in its docs, its directory description and its open-source code; no Claude help article or Anthropic developer page covers it.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Twelve Data connector

01What can Claude do with the Twelve Data connector?
Claude can fetch financial market data from your Twelve Data account while it answers you. It reads real-time prices and quotes, historical time series, technical indicators, financial statements, key statistics, analyst estimates, earnings, dividends, splits and IPO calendars. It also covers ETFs and mutual funds, company profiles and news, insider trades and SEC filings, currency conversion, market movers and exchange hours. Two more tools belong to the sign-in flow and do not touch market data.
02Can Claude trade or change anything in my Twelve Data account?
No source describes trading. Twenty-five of the 27 tools only read data, and none places an order or manages a portfolio. The two tools marked as writing, oauth_configure and oauth_login, come from the sign-in flow of Twelve Data's open-source server: they store credentials or a token locally. No source says what they do on the hosted connector. An admin can still open actions no public page shows, so check the sheet if it grows.
03Does Claude ask before calling the Twelve Data tools?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before any action it takes on an account for you. The 25 read tools only fetch data. For the two sign-in tools, no source describes a specific confirmation, so the general rule applies. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a new prompt, and they can restrict the connector for everyone in the organization, closing write tools if they wish.
04Which Claude plans include the Twelve Data connector?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule opens remote connectors to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. Separately, your Twelve Data subscription decides rate limits, real-time access and premium datasets. Check the connector's directory sheet for its current state on your account.
05Does Claude see everything in my Twelve Data account?
Claude sees what your Twelve Data account gives it access to, through the personal API key linked when you log in. The publisher says paid tiers unlock higher rate limits, real-time data and premium datasets, so your subscription shapes what comes back. The usage tool reports credits consumed and plan limits. More broadly, Claude never reaches beyond the rights of the person who connected it, and a Team or Enterprise owner can restrict the connector.
06Why can't Claude get the S&P 500 price from Twelve Data?
Because the price tools do not support market indices. In the code of Twelve Data's open-source server, the price tool lists indices such as the S&P 500, the NASDAQ and the Dow as unsupported, along with options and bonds, and the symbol search says the same. The suggestion is to use an ETF proxy instead, for example SPY for the S&P 500 or QQQ for the NASDAQ-100. Ask Claude for the proxy by name and the price tool returns its value.
07Claude or an automation tool for Twelve Data?
They do different jobs, so choose by task, not by ranking. Claude fits analysis in conversation: asking about a stock, comparing funds, reading a company's statements, with tools called only while it answers. An automation platform fits repeated jobs that run on a schedule without you, like a daily price export into a sheet. This connector schedules nothing and sends no alerts on its own, even when a price crosses a level you care about.
