What you can automate

What can the WhatsApp Business Cloud Make integration do?

It links your WhatsApp Business number to Make so a scenario can read what customers send you and answer for you. Eleven modules cover the whole loop: one trigger for incoming messages, ten actions to send, move files around and manage sender numbers. No code, no server to keep alive.

Three shapes come back over and over. An inbox that always answers: Watch Events picks up the message a customer just sent, Send a Template Message pushes the approved reply, and your team only steps in on the cases that deserve a human.

Delivery news without a phone call: your shop marks an order as shipped and the buyer gets the template, with nobody dictating it. Photos that file themselves: a customer sends a picture of a broken part, Watch Events catches the message and Download a Media pulls the file into the rest of the scenario.

Two things Make will not do for you here. A free-form reply through Send a Message only works once a template has gone out and the customer has answered, so a first contact always starts with Send a Template Message. And the number has to be approved by WhatsApp before anything leaves Make, which is settled on Meta's side. When an error does show up in the editor, Make troubleshooting goes through the ones you meet first.

The same app lives next door: there is a WhatsApp Business Cloud n8n integration, and the n8n vs Make comparison sorts out which tool suits which team.

Connect

How do you connect WhatsApp Business Cloud to Make?

  1. 01

    Line up the three accounts

You need a Facebook account, a Meta Business Suite account and a working WhatsApp Business number. If two-step verification is on for that number, switch it off before you start: the connection, your WhatsApp account linked to Make once and reused by every module, cannot be created while it runs.

  2. 02

    Create the connection in Make

Add a WhatsApp Business Cloud module to a scenario and click Create a connection. Pick WhatsApp Business Cloud in Connection type, then Regular in Signup Mode, unless you still use the WhatsApp Business phone app, which calls for Coexistence. Click Save.

  3. 03

    Pick your WhatsApp Business account

Click Continue, choose your Business portfolio, then the WhatsApp Business account you want to use, or create one right there. Close with Next, Confirm and Finish, and every WhatsApp module you add later reuses that connection.

First scenario

Your first scenario: answer every incoming message

GoalWhen a customer writes to your WhatsApp Business number, Make replies with an approved template.

  1. 01

    Create the scenario

From the Scenarios page, create a new scenario and click the + to place the first module. Search WhatsApp Business Cloud by name and pick Watch Events, the module that keeps an ear on your number.

  2. 02

Set up the webhook, then the connection

Watch Events carries the instant tag, so Make asks for a webhook first, the address WhatsApp calls when something happens. Click Create a webhook, then Create a connection to link your account.

  3. 03

    Add the reply

Click the + on the right of the trigger and add Send a Template Message. Map the data coming out of Watch Events into the module, so the template goes back to the person who just wrote.

  4. 04

    Test with Run once

Click Run once, the button that executes the scenario a single time, and message yourself from another phone. Each module shows the bundles it received, a bundle being one item passing from one module to the next.

  5. 05

    Switch the scenario on

Flip the scenario on and leave it running. Watch Events being instant, WhatsApp calls Make as soon as a message lands and the scenario starts by itself. Every module that runs counts one operation on your plan.

Triggers

What sets a WhatsApp scenario off?

1 module starts a scenario when something happens in WhatsApp Business Cloud. A scheduled trigger is checked by Make on the scenario's schedule; an instant one is called by WhatsApp Business Cloud as soon as it happens.

WhatsApp Business Cloud1Watch Events

Watch Events

Instant trigger

In MakeTriggers when a new message is received.

Watch Events is the ear on your business number: the moment a customer message reaches WhatsApp, it starts the scenario and hands the content to the next module.

How it fires
instant, the app calls Make through a webhook as soon as it happens, so nothing is polled and nothing waits.
When to use it
a shared support number where the first answer has to leave before anyone opens the app.
Watch out
because the module is instant, the editor asks for the webhook before the connection, and the scenario has to stay switched on to hear anything at all.
Modules

What each of the 11 modules does

WhatsApp Business Cloud gives you 10 modules in 4 groups. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

Message

2 modules

Your business phone number must be first approved by WhatsApp before you use it for sending messages. For more information, see Create a business portfolio and Create a WhatsApp Business account topics.

WhatsApp Business Cloud1

Send a Message

Action

In MakeSends a message.

Send a Message drops a plain, freely written message into a conversation that is already open, the kind of reply a human would type.

When to use it
a customer asks where their delivery is and your scenario already holds the answer.
Watch out
a cold conversation cannot start here, a template has to have gone out and the customer has to have replied to it first.
WhatsApp Business Cloud2

Send a Template Message

Action

In MakeSends a template message.

Templates are the messages WhatsApp approved in advance. This module fires one of them at a number, and it is the only door into a conversation the customer did not open.

When to use it
an order leaves the warehouse and the buyer gets the shipping notice without anyone typing it.
Watch out
your business number has to be approved by WhatsApp before the first template goes out.

Media

2 modules
WhatsApp Business Cloud3

Upload a Media

Action

In MakeUploads a media and retrieves its ID.

Upload a Media pushes a file to WhatsApp and hands you back the ID it was stored under, which the rest of the scenario can reuse.

When to use it
a price list or a menu you want sitting on WhatsApp's side before the message that announces it.
WhatsApp Business Cloud4

Download a Media

Action

In MakeDownloads a media by its ID.

Give Download a Media the ID of a file WhatsApp is holding and it brings that file into the scenario, ready for whatever module comes next.

When to use it
a customer sends a photo of a damaged parcel and the picture has to land in the claim folder, not in someone's phone.
Watch out
the module works from the ID, so the message carrying it has to be caught first.

Phone Number

WhatsApp Business Cloud5

Enable Two-Step Verification

Action

In MakeActivates the two-step verification for a sender number by its ID and a 6 digits pin.

This one switches two-step verification back on for a sender number, from its ID and a six digit pin.

When to use it
a number several people handle, where an extra pin keeps surprises out.
Watch out
that protection has to be off while the connection is being created, so this module runs after, never before.
WhatsApp Business Cloud6

Register a Sender

Action

In MakeRegisters a sender by its ID and a 6 digits pin.

Register a Sender hands a number to WhatsApp as a sender, with its ID and a six digit pin. That declaration is what lets Make send from it.

When to use it
a second number for a new market or a new brand, added without leaving the scenario you are already in.
Watch out
moving a number to Make as a Solution Partner takes it off every other platform where it was connected, so check what still runs on it first.
WhatsApp Business Cloud7

Verify a Sender

Action

In MakeVerifies a sender by its ID.

Verification is the step that proves the sender really is yours, and this module runs it from the sender ID.

When to use it
right behind the registration, in the same scenario, so a new number is ready in one pass.
WhatsApp Business Cloud8

Deregister a Sender

Action

In MakeDeregisters a sender by its ID.

Deregister a Sender unhooks a number from your WhatsApp setup, by its ID.

When to use it
a shop closes or a campaign number retires, and nothing should leave from it any more.
Watch out
nothing here undoes itself, bringing the number back means registering and verifying it again.

Business Profile

2 modules
WhatsApp Business Cloud9

Get a Business Profile

Action

In MakeRetrieves the details of the WhatsApp business profile by the sender ID.

Get a Business Profile reads what customers see when they tap your name: the details stored on the profile of a given sender ID.

When to use it
a check before a campaign, to be sure the address and the description shown next to your messages still hold.
WhatsApp Business Cloud10

Update a Business Profile

Action

In MakeUpdates a WhatsApp business profile by the sender ID.

And the writing side: Update a Business Profile changes the profile attached to a sender ID, straight from a scenario.

When to use it
opening hours that move for the holidays, corrected once in your own records and pushed to WhatsApp by Make.

FAQ

Questions that come up next

01Is the WhatsApp Business Cloud Make integration free?
Yes on Make's side. WhatsApp Business Cloud is a standard app, so it sits on every plan, the Free one included; only Enterprise apps are held back for the Enterprise plan. What the Free plan frames is the scenario itself: two active scenarios at a time, a run that stops after five minutes, files up to 5 MB and 512 MB of transfer. Every module that runs counts one operation, and operations are the unit your plan is measured in. What Meta charges for WhatsApp messages is a separate matter, settled in your Meta account.
02What do you need before connecting WhatsApp Business Cloud?
Three accounts and one clean number. A Facebook account, a Meta Business Suite account, and a WhatsApp Business number that works. If two-step verification is switched on for that number, turn it off before you start, because the connection cannot be created while it is active; the Enable Two-Step Verification module puts it back afterwards. During the setup Make asks for a business portfolio and a WhatsApp Business account, so have them ready in Meta Business Suite, or create them from the same window.
03Does Watch Events react in real time?
Yes. Watch Events is an instant trigger, which means WhatsApp itself calls Make through a webhook the second a message arrives, and Make never goes looking on its own. The scenario starts by itself, on one condition: that it stayed switched on. The editor makes the difference visible, since an instant module asks you to create a webhook before the connection and wears a lightning badge instead of a clock. So the switch matters more than any setting, on means listening, off means silent.
04What if a module is missing or a limit gets in the way?
It depends on what you are short of. This app has no Make an API Call module, the catch-all some apps offer to reach what their modules do not cover, so the eleven modules on this page are the full ground. Two limits catch people out: a free-form Send a Message only works after a template has been sent and answered, and Coexistence, the mode that keeps the WhatsApp Business phone app alive next to Make, is not available in every country. When the gap is real, another app inside the same scenario usually bridges it, and the team can look at your case with you.
05Make or n8n for WhatsApp Business Cloud?
It depends on who keeps it running. Make wins when the person building the scenario is the person running the business: the editor is visual, the modules are named after what they do, and the app is there from the Free plan. n8n earns its place when a developer is already in the loop, when the workflow has to live on a server you own, or when the logic gets long enough to call for code. On the WhatsApp side nothing changes, the same Meta account and the same approved number send the messages either way.
