3rdShift Zapier integrationAutomate 3rdShift with Zapier.
The 3rdShift Zapier integration is small and sharp: 1 trigger, 1 action, 0 searches. One tells Zapier when an AI team member finishes a job, the other puts a team member to work from any other app. Here is what each does, what it costs and where it trips.

What the 3rdShift Zapier integration actually does
3rdShift gives you a bench of AI specialists (80 and more, from writers and researchers to analysts and designers). Plugging it into Zapier means two things: the rest of your tools hear about it when one of those specialists finishes a job, and any of your tools can hand a specialist a new job without anyone opening 3rdShift.
Three outcomes cover most of what people build with it.
A finished deliverable that goes somewhere useful. Task Completed fires the moment a team member wraps up. The next step can drop the result where your team already works, so nobody has to go fetch it.
A brief that writes itself from an event. Run a Team Member takes a team member and a task description, runs it, and returns the output to the Zap. Feed it from a form, a new row or a ticket, and the draft is waiting before anyone asks.
A relay between specialists. Chain the two: when the researcher finishes, the writer starts. One 3rdShift job feeds the next one, with a filter in between if only some of them should go on.
Now the honest part. Zapier offers nothing else for 3rdShift. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an earlier task or a team member by name. There is no action to edit, cancel or delete a task. If your plan relies on any of that, it is not in the editor today.
Before picking a tool, our n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier comparisons lay out the criteria side by side, and the Zapier review covers the platform itself.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English, once.
- Zap
- An automation you build on Zapier. It starts with one trigger and runs one or more actions each time that trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that kicks the Zap off. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier sits and waits for that event.
- Action
- The step that does the work after the trigger: it writes, sends or moves something for you in an app.
- Task
- What Zapier bills. One task equals one action that finished successfully, and your plan counts those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is pushed by the app the moment the event happens, so nothing waits.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Anything beyond one trigger plus one action. A second action or a filter turns a Zap into one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What 3rdShift on Zapier really costs
The trigger is free. Watching for a finished task never uses a task, however often it happens.
- TriggerFree, never counted
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
- Premium appNo, available on the free plan
Every successful Run a Team Member counts as one task. A run that fails is not billed. 3rdShift is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two-step Zaps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and you are on a paid plan.
The interval grid below only matters for polling triggers. Task Completed is instant, so it fires straight away on every plan, Free included. What actually drives the bill is how often Run a Team Member succeeds.
Connect your 3rdShift account in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your 3rdShift account linked once, then reused by every step that touches 3rdShift.
- 02
Pick 3rdShift
Type 3rdShift in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the 3rdShift side, ready for you to sign in.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to 3rdShift in that tab and allow Zapier into the account. You need a 3rdShift account of your own, plus access to anything you do not own that the Zap should touch.
Your first 3rdShift Zap, step by step
GoalWhen a 3rdShift task finishes and passes a filter, hand the result to a second team member.
- 01
Build: pick the trigger
Create a Zap, choose 3rdShift as the app and Task Completed as the event, then select your 3rdShift connection from the list.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier pulls the three most recent completed tasks from your account, so you map fields on a real one rather than a guess.
- 03
Add the filter
From the plus icon, add Filter. Pick a field, a rule and a value. Keep the rule type right: a text rule only works on text.
- 04
Add the action
Add 3rdShift again with Run a Team Member. Choose the specialist, then write the Task Description, mapping in the output of the finished task.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action once and read what came back. If the output looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. This one has a filter, so it needs a paid plan.
The 3rdShift trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in 3rdShift, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Task Completed
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a 3rdShift team member completes a task.”
This one fires as soon as one of your AI specialists in 3rdShift finishes the job it was given, and passes the result straight into your Zap. It is the hook for anything that should happen after the work is done: sharing it, filing it, or handing it to the next specialist.
The 3rdShift action
3rdShift gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

Run a Team Member
ActionIn Zapier“Run a 3rdShift team member and get the output back in your Zap”
Puts a chosen 3rdShift specialist to work on a brief you write, then returns what it produced so later steps can use it. Two fields are mandatory: the Team Member and the Task Description.
When the 3rdShift Zap breaks
Zapier publishes no help article and no rate limit specific to 3rdShift. What does break is the same set of Zapier limits every app hits.
Four of them matter here. Read them before you publish, not after the first odd bill. If something still goes sideways, our Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the usual fixes.
No catch-up on old tasks
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Tasks completed before publishing are never sent, and moving that backlog is a separate job.A relay that feeds itself
A Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches sets itself off again and again. Check that your Run a Team Member step cannot complete a task that restarts the same Zap.Big bursts get held back
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import for example, Zapier's flood protection can pause it instead of running everything. The filter that blocks publishing
The free plan only builds two-step Zaps. The moment you add a filter or a second action, the Zap needs a paid plan before it can go live.
