What the Abby Connect Zapier integration is for
Abby Connect answers your phones and your website chat. Zapier, the automation tool, watches your Abby Connect account and hands what it finds to another app. In plain terms: when the answering service logs something new, the rest of your stack hears about it without anyone copying it over by hand.
Three results come up again and again. A sales ping: New Chat feeds a team channel, so the rep on duty hears about a website conversation without watching the Abby Connect dashboard. A call log in your CRM: New Call Record turns every answered call into a contact note, which helps a small agency that bills by the hour keep its history straight. A shared inbox for messages: New Receptionist Message forwards each message taken on your behalf to the person it concerns, by email or task.
Now the part the app page skips. Abby Connect on Zapier only talks, it never listens. There is no action and no search, so a Zap (the automation you build: one trigger, then the steps that follow) cannot create a contact, update a call or look up a chat inside Abby Connect. Everything flows out, nothing flows back in. If you need two-way sync, Zapier is not the route for this app today.

Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words cover everything on this page. Each one is used exactly as Zapier uses it.
- Zap
- The automation itself: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you in another app.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action that finished successfully; your plan counts those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer for new items. An instant one is reported by the app the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap that goes beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it needs a paid plan.
What it really costs
Abby Connect is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan. The bill only grows with actions.
- Premium appNo, works on Free
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Trigger cost0 tasks
The trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new items, however often it looks. Each action that succeeds counts once; an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only: one trigger, one action. Add a second action or a filter and the Zap becomes multi-step, which means a paid plan. Until then, the interval grid below is the only thing that changes between plans.
Connect Abby Connect to Zapier
- 01
Open your Apps page
In Zapier, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Abby Connect account linked once, then reused by every Zap that touches it from then on.
- 02
Find Abby Connect
Type the app name in the dialog, select Abby Connect, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Abby Connect side, ready for you to sign in.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to your Abby Connect account in that tab and grant Zapier access. You need an account on the app, plus access to anything you do not own yourself but want the Zap to read.
Your first Zap: chats to Slack and a task list
GoalEvery new website chat posts in a sales channel and opens a follow-up card for the rep.
- 01
Create the Zap
Click to create a new Zap. Pick Abby Connect as the trigger app and
New Chatas the event, then choose the connection you made above. - 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent chats from your account, so you map fields on a real one rather than an empty sample.
- 03
Add the first action
Add Slack, pick the channel, and drop the chat details into the message text. Test the step and check what actually landed in Slack.
- 04
Add the second action
Add Trello to open a card per chat. This third step makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan. On Free, stop after Slack.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From now on, each new chat runs it, and only the successful actions count as tasks on your plan.
The 3 Abby Connect triggers
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Abby Connect. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Call Record
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new Call Record is created.”
Fires when Abby Connect logs a call it handled for you, and hands that record to the next step of your Zap. It is the natural starting point for keeping a call history somewhere your team already works.
New Chat
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new chat is created.”
Starts your Zap each time a visitor conversation is opened through the Abby Connect chat service. The chat then becomes raw material for an alert, a card, or a row somewhere else.
New Receptionist Message
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new Receptionist Message is created.”
Picks up each message a receptionist takes on your behalf and passes it along, so it reaches the right person instead of waiting in the Abby Connect dashboard.
When it breaks
Zapier attaches no help article of its own to Abby Connect. The failures below are the general ones, and they all apply here.
Most problems with this integration come from how Zapier handles triggers, not from Abby Connect itself. If a Zap still misbehaves after these checks, the Zapier troubleshooting guide goes step by step.
Old calls never show up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Records that already existed in Abby Connect are ignored; importing the backlog is a separate job.The Zap keeps setting itself off
If a Zap writes into the same place its own trigger watches, it fires again and again and burns through your task count quickly.A big batch arrives and stalls
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back. Why no duplicates appear
Zapier remembers which items it has already seen on a polling trigger, so the same chat or call never starts the Zap twice.
