Overview

What the Abyssale Zapier integration actually does for you

Connecting Abyssale to Zapier means your templates get filled and rendered by an automation instead of by hand. Another tool, or Abyssale itself, starts the job. Zapier then asks Abyssale for the visual, the export or the share link, and passes the result to the next step.

Three results come out of it most of the time. First, finished visuals: Generate Single Image renders one image from a template, and Generate Multi-Format Images renders every size of it in one go, as JPEG, PNG or Web PDF. Second, motion and print files: animated GIFs, HTML5 banner ads, videos and print-ready PDFs, each with its own action. Third, something to hand over: Export Visuals bundles generated visuals into a .zip, and Generate Open Graph Link wraps an image in a short link that shows it as the preview when someone shares it.

The other direction is covered too. All four triggers are instant, so a Zap can start the second a file, a batch or an export is done, or when a template changes status.

Now the limits. Zapier cannot design or edit a template for you: every generation action needs a template that already exists in your Abyssale account. There is also no operation to delete a visual or a template, and no way to change a template's status from a Zap. Those jobs stay in Abyssale.

If you are weighing tools, the same page exists for Make: the Abyssale Make integration lists what that platform offers for the same app.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain terms.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, sends or moves something on your behalf.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completed successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived matches the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, so the steps after it can reuse what it found.
Connection
Your Abyssale account, linked to Zapier once and then reused by every step of every Zap that touches Abyssale.
Cost

What it really costs

Abyssale is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. What you spend depends on the actions, never on the trigger.

  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Abyssale triggers4 instant, 0 polling

The trigger itself never costs a task, and neither does Zapier listening for new events. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap that renders images and then builds a share link uses two tasks per run. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, and two-step Zaps only: one trigger, one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The polling grid below does not touch Abyssale, since its four triggers are all instant.

Connect

Connect Abyssale to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box: type Abyssale, then pick it from the list of results.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on Abyssale, where you sign in with the account that holds the templates your Zaps will fill and render later on.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to access the account. You need an Abyssale account, plus read or write access to anything you do not own yourself and want a Zap to touch, such as a teammate's templates.

First Zap

Your first Zap: refresh every format when a template changes

GoalWhen a template changes status in Abyssale, let only the change you care about through, then render all formats of the template you picked.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose Abyssale as the app that starts it and Template Status Updated as the event. Select your Abyssale connection.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from your account, so you see what this trigger really returns before you set anything after it.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Add a Filter step and fill its three boxes from what the test brought back: the field to check, the rule, the value. If no field tells the changes apart, drop the filter. It makes the Zap multi-step, so paid.

  4. 04

    Add the generation

Add Generate Multi-Format Images and pick the template in the Template list yourself rather than mapping it, then fill the content fields it expects. Test the step and open the result.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on, each status change starts it, and each successful render counts as one task.

Triggers

The 4 Abyssale triggers

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Abyssale, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New File

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a single file generation is completed”

Starts your Zap as soon as Abyssale has finished rendering a single file. That finished file becomes the starting point for whatever comes next, such as a share link or a handoff to another step.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
your sales team generates one personalised visual per prospect and wants an Open Graph link ready without a second click.
Watch out
if the same Zap then generates another single image, that new file starts the Zap again, and you get a loop that eats tasks.
2

New File Batch

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a batch generation of files is completed”

Fires once a whole batch generation is complete, rather than file by file. You react to the full set, which suits jobs where the files only make sense together.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a campaign needs every ad size rendered before anyone downloads anything, and you want the export to follow the batch automatically.
Watch out
nothing on the Zapier side says which values the batch carries, so check the test result before mapping anything from it.
3

New Export

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an export of one or multiple images has been completed”

Kicks in when Abyssale completes an export, whether it holds one image or several. It is the signal that a package is ready to leave Abyssale.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a studio exports a set of visuals for a client and wants the next step of its delivery process to start without someone watching the screen.
Watch out
a Zap built on this trigger that also runs Export Visuals will set itself off again on its own export.
4

Template Status Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a template's status has been updated.”

Reacts to a change of status on one of your templates. Since templates feed every generation action, this is the trigger that keeps rendered visuals in step with the design work.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
the design team marks a template as ready and marketing wants all formats rendered straight away for review.
Watch out
every status change fires it, so add a filter if only one kind of change should go further, keeping in mind a filter needs a paid plan.
Actions

The 9 Abyssale actions

Abyssale gives you 9 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

2

Export Visuals

Action

In Zapier“Export one or multiple previously generated visuals in .zip format”

Packs visuals you already generated into one .zip file. You give it the banner IDs, separated by commas.

When to use it
after a batch completes, a freelancer wants a single archive to send to the client.
Watch out
Banners ids is required. Before mapping it, check in your test that an earlier step really brings back those IDs.
3

Generate Single Image

Action

In Zapier“Generate a single image (JPEG, PNG, Web PDF) from a template designed in Abyssale”

Renders one image from an Abyssale template, as JPEG, PNG or Web PDF, with the text and pictures you map from earlier steps.

When to use it
a webinar sign-up should produce one personalised invitation visual per attendee.
Watch out
Template is required, so the template must exist before the Zap runs.
4

Generate Multi-Format Animated GIFs

Action

In Zapier“Generate multiple animated GIFs at once from a template designed in Abyssale”

Creates several animated GIFs at once from one template. The optional Customize Output Options switch overrides the default settings when you need a different output.

When to use it
an email team wants a moving header in every size its newsletters use.
Watch out
leave the custom options off unless you really need them, so the template's defaults stay in charge.
5

Generate HTML5 Banner Ads

Action

In Zapier“Generate HTML5 banner ads from an animated template designed in Abyssale”

Builds HTML5 banner ads from an animated Abyssale template, ready to run as display ads.

When to use it
a media buyer refreshes display ads whenever a new offer goes live and wants the banners without a designer in the loop.
Watch out
it relies on an animated template too, and Customize Output Options overrides its defaults when switched on.
6

Generate Multi-Format Images

Action

In Zapier“Generate multiple images (JPEG, PNG, Web PDF) at once from a template designed in Abyssale”

Produces every format of a template in one action, in the same file types as the single version. One run gives you the whole family of sizes.

When to use it
a product launch needs square, story and banner versions of the same visual for the ads team.
Watch out
it still needs a Template, and the formats come from that template's setup.
7

Generate Multi-Format PDFs for Printing

Action

In Zapier“Generate multiple printable PDFs at once from a template designed in Abyssale”

Outputs several printable PDFs in one action, one for each print format set on the template.

When to use it
an event agency needs the same poster as a flyer, a roll-up and a table card for each new date.
Watch out
these are print files, so check the template's print formats in Abyssale before relying on the Zap.
8

Generate Multi-Page PDF for Printing

Action

In Zapier“Generate a multi-page printable PDF from a template designed in Abyssale”

Assembles a single printable PDF made of several pages, from a template designed in Abyssale.

When to use it
a real estate team produces a printed brochure for each new listing, cover and inside pages together.
Watch out
Template is required, and Customize Output Options replaces the default settings only when you turn it on.
9

Generate Multi-Format Videos

Action

In Zapier“Generate multiple videos at once from an animated template designed in Abyssale”

Turns an animated template into several videos in one pass, one per format. Like the GIF action, it accepts Customize Output Options to replace the defaults.

When to use it
a recruiting team posts each new job as a short video across social networks.
Watch out
the template has to be an animated one, a static design is not enough.
Searches

The 3 Abyssale searches

3 search steps look for data that already exists in Abyssale, so a later step can use it.

A search step fetches something that already exists in Abyssale so later steps can use it. In the editor, searches sit at the bottom of the Action event list, under SEARCH. Three settings decide what happens when a search does not find exactly one thing.

1

Find Image

Search

In Zapier“Fetch details about a previously generated image”

Retrieves the details of an image Abyssale generated earlier, from its Banner ID, which is required.

When to use it
you hold the ID of a visual and need its details for a later step, for example before building an Open Graph link.
Watch out
nothing guarantees a trigger hands you that Banner ID, so check the test result before counting on it.
2

Find Format

Search

In Zapier“Fetch details about a format added to a template you designed in Abyssale”

Looks up one of the formats attached to a template you designed, so a later step knows which size it is working with.

When to use it
a Zap should only build the share link for the format meant for social previews.
Watch out
Template is required, so the search only covers formats of the template you name.
3

Find Template

Search

In Zapier“Fetch details about a template you designed in Abyssale”

Pulls the details of a template from your Abyssale account, so generation steps further down can use it.

When to use it
you want a template's details on hand before a later step renders anything from it.
Watch out
each search step makes the Zap multi-step, which the free plan does not allow.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, an empty search stops the Zap there and the dependent steps are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on with nothing found.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into a find-or-create on apps that offer it. None of the three Abyssale searches has that variant, so you will not see it here.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out: keep the first match, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass every match on at once.
When it breaks

When an Abyssale Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Abyssale, so the traps below are the general Zapier ones, applied to what Abyssale does.

Two of them come from loops between generation and triggers. When a Zap misbehaves, the Zapier troubleshooting guide is the next stop.

  • No catch-up on old visuals

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Files, batches and exports created before that are never picked up, and moving them is a separate job.
  • The generation loop

A New File Zap that generates another single image sets itself off again with each new file, and burns through your task count fast.
  • Exports that re-export

The same goes for New Export followed by Export Visuals: each export it creates starts the Zap once more.
  • Big bursts get held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, for instance after a bulk run, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back.

FAQ

Abyssale Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Abyssale Zapier integration free?
Yes, on the Zapier side. Abyssale is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is size: the free plan only builds two-step Zaps, one trigger and one action. As soon as you add a filter, a search such as Find Template, or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does an Abyssale Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that waits for New File and then runs Generate Open Graph Link uses one task per file. Add Export Visuals after it and each run costs two. Zapier listening for new events costs nothing, however often they arrive, and an action that fails is not counted. A few apps and actions take more than one task when they complete, so keep an eye on the count during the first days.
03Does Abyssale trigger Zaps in real time?
Yes. All four Abyssale triggers are instant: Abyssale tells Zapier the moment a file, a batch, an export or a template status changes, and the Zap starts right away. That holds whatever your plan. The polling interval of the plan grid, 15 minutes on the free plan, does not apply to them. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. Nothing to configure on your side: the type is decided by the app.
04What does it take to connect Abyssale to Zapier?
An Abyssale account, plus read or write access to anything you do not own yourself and want a Zap to touch. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, pick Abyssale, then click Add connection, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. Before testing, make sure the account holds at least one finished template, because Template is a required field on every generation action. Otherwise the first test has nothing to render.
05Why does an Abyssale Zap keep starting on its own?
It is probably feeding its own trigger. A Zap that starts on New File and then generates another single image creates a new file each run, which starts the Zap again. The same happens with New Export followed by Export Visuals. Each loop counts tasks, so the plan drains fast. Pick a trigger that is not touched by the Zap's own output, for example New File Batch or Template Status Updated, and test before publishing.
06What if the Abyssale operation you need is missing?
Check first whether a search plus an action covers it, since Find Image, Find Format and Find Template expose existing items to later steps. If the job is designing or editing a template, deleting a visual or changing a template's status, Zapier has no operation for it, and it stays in Abyssale. Another automation platform may offer different operations for the same app, which is worth comparing before you build around a gap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Abyssale?
It depends on your criteria rather than on a winner. Zapier gives you 16 visible operations with instant triggers, and its free plan covers simple two-step Zaps. If your flows need several steps, filters and searches, keep in mind that on Zapier every multi-step Zap needs a paid plan, and compare how each platform counts runs. Above all, check which Abyssale operations each platform exposes, and whether the ones your flow depends on are there, before choosing.
