What the Accredible Certificates Zapier integration actually does
The Accredible Certificates Zapier integration links your Accredible account to the rest of your tools through Zapier, a service that runs automations between apps without code. A credential gets created or published, Zapier notices, and it carries out the next step for you: issue another credential, change one, attach a transcript, or look one up.
Three results come up again and again in a coding bootcamp. First, certificates that issue themselves: Create Credential only needs a cohort, a recipient name and an email, so a graduation list kept elsewhere can become credentials without retyping a single line. Second, scores shown on the badge: Create Evidence - Transcript adds a graded row, a percentage from 0 to 100, to a credential that already exists. Third, a team told about every graduate: New Credential Published starts a Zap as soon as Accredible publishes one.
That third point matters most on a free plan. Of the two triggers, New Credential Published is the only instant one: it reacts straight away even on the free plan, while New Credential Created waits for the plan's interval. Pick it whenever timing counts.
What Zapier does not do here: there is no find-or-create, so a search for a missing credential cannot create it in the same step. Credentials issued before the Zap went live are never picked up. And the polling trigger cannot be made instant, because Accredible's own API decides that, not the editor. If you are still weighing platforms, the Make vs Zapier comparison sets out the criteria side by side.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words carry the rest of this page. Each one in plain English, once.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier simply waits for that event.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or changes something in an app for you.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One action that completes successfully is one task, and your plan is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer for new items. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something already stored in an app, so the steps after it can reuse what it found.
- Connection
- Your Accredible account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that touches Accredible.
What it really costs
Accredible Certificates is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. You pay in tasks, and not every step is one.
- Free plan100 tasks a month
- Premium appNo
- Trigger cost0 tasks
- Free Zap size2 steps
The trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier checks for new credentials. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap that issues a credential and then attaches a transcript uses two tasks per run. A failed action costs nothing. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and you need a paid plan.
Connect your Accredible account
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an Accredible account first, plus access to anything you do not own that the Zap should touch.
- 02
Pick Accredible Certificates
In the dialog, type the app's name, select Accredible Certificates in the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens so you can sign in.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to Accredible in that tab and let Zapier access the account. The connection then sits in your list, and every Zap step that uses Accredible reuses it.
Your first Zap: a transcript on every published credential
GoalA coding bootcamp attaches the final project grade to each graduate's credential once it is published.
- 01
Build: pick the trigger
Create a Zap, choose Accredible Certificates as the trigger app and New Credential Published as the event, then select the connection you made above.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from your account, so you map the next steps against a real published credential.
- 03
Add a filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon and set the field, the rule and the value. Only the credentials that pass go on. This step makes it a paid-plan Zap.
- 04
Add the transcript
Add Create Evidence - Transcript. Point Credential ID at the credential from step one, then fill Name, Grade, Description and Supplemental, all of them required.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action once and check the result in Accredible. Then publish the Zap to switch it on. The Zapier training goes further on field mapping.
Triggers
2 events start a Zap when something happens in Accredible Certificates, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Credential Published
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new Credential is published.”
Starts your Zap each time Accredible publishes a credential, so whatever comes next happens as soon as the certificate or badge is out in the open.
New Credential Created
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new credential is created.”
Picks up each credential newly added to your Accredible account and hands its details to the next step of the Zap.
Actions
Accredible Certificates gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Credential
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a new certificate or badge.”
Issues a new certificate or badge for one person. You give it the cohort, the recipient's name and their email, all three required.
Create Evidence - Transcript
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a Transcript Evidence Item”
Attaches a transcript row to a credential that already exists: a label for the row, a percentage grade from 0 to 100, and a description shown alongside.
Delete Credential
ActionIn Zapier“Deleting an existing credential.”
Removes an existing credential from Accredible, identified by its ID, the single required field.
Update Credential
ActionIn Zapier“Update an existing credential.”
Changes a credential you issued earlier. Its only required input is that credential's ID, so the Zap has to know exactly which one to touch.
Searches
2 search steps look for data that already exists in Accredible Certificates, so a later step can use it.
Searches sit at the bottom of the action-event list, under the SEARCH heading. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not one clean match.
Find Credentials
SearchIn Zapier“Finds existing credentials.”
Looks up credentials already stored in your Accredible account and passes them to the steps after it.
Find Groups
SearchIn Zapier“Find an existing Group.”
Finds a group that already exists in Accredible, so a later step can reuse it instead of you typing it in by hand.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left as it is, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap and skips the steps that relied on it. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet?Ticking it turns a search into a find-or-create. Accredible Certificates offers no such variant, so both searches here can only find.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out: keep the first match, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass every match on at once.
When it breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to this app, so the traps below are Zapier's general ones, seen through credentials.
None of them shows up as a clear error message. They show up as a Zap that does nothing, or too much. The Zapier troubleshooting guide covers how to dig into a failed run.
Past credentials are ignored
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Credentials issued before that stay untouched, and moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that keeps restarting
Issuing credentials from a Zap that watches for new credentials sets it off again and again, and every round eats through your tasks.A bulk import held back
Importing a whole cohort at once can hand the trigger a huge batch in one go, and Zapier's flood protection may hold it back.No double runs on polling
On New Credential Created, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same credential never starts the Zap twice.
