Overview

What the Beamer Zapier integration actually does

Beamer is the newsfeed and changelog you put on your website or app to announce new features, plus a space where users suggest ideas. Zapier connects it to your other tools through a Zap, an automation made of one trigger (the event that starts it) and one or more actions (what happens next). Every Beamer trigger is instant.

Three results product teams build first. A feedback inbox that never sleeps: New Idea, New Idea Comment and New NPS Response push what users say to wherever your team reads it. A reply loop on ideas: Create Idea Comment answers each new suggestion so nobody feels ignored. A changelog fed from your release tool: Create Post publishes an update when something ships elsewhere.

Now what Zapier does not do for Beamer. There are only four actions: create a post, an idea, an idea comment or an idea vote. Nothing edits or deletes a post from a Zap, even though a Zap can react when one is edited or deleted. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot find an existing idea by its title; it needs the idea ID handed over by an earlier step, such as the trigger or a Create Idea action.

To compare tools, the Beamer Make integration covers the same app on Make, and the Make vs Zapier comparison is there if you are weighing the two platforms.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words come up all over this page. Here they are, plainly.

Zap
Your automation on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier just waits for that event.
Action
What the Zap does once it starts: the step that creates a post, an idea, a comment or a vote for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan counts tasks and nothing else.
Instant vs polling trigger
An instant trigger is reported by the app right away. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. All of Beamer's are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter turns it into one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Beamer Zap really costs

The trigger is free. Zapier bills only the actions that succeed.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Beamer on freeYes, it is not a premium app
  • Trigger speedInstant on all 9, whatever the plan

Every successful action is one task, so a Zap that creates an idea and then comments on it uses two tasks per run. A failed action is not counted, and Zapier listening for new Beamer events costs nothing. Beamer is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, but that plan stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. Because the 9 triggers are instant, no plan makes them slower. Speed is never the reason to upgrade here.

Connect

Connect Beamer to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your apps

In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A connection is your Beamer account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap.

  2. 02

    Pick Beamer

Search for Beamer by name in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. Zapier opens a new tab where Beamer asks you to sign in to your Beamer account.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in with the Beamer account that holds your feed and ideas, then grant Zapier access. You need read or write rights on anything you do not own yourself but want a Zap to touch.

First Zap

Your first Zap: every new idea gets a vote and a reply

GoalA SaaS product manager wants each new idea counted once by the team and answered with a short comment, so users see it was read.

  1. 01

    Build: set the trigger

Create a Zap, pick Beamer and the New Idea event, then choose your Beamer connection. The trigger is instant, so each idea reaches the Zap as soon as it is posted.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent ideas from your account, so the next steps are mapped on a real suggestion.

  3. 03

    Add Create Idea Vote

Add Create Idea Vote and map the idea ID from the trigger. That is the only required field, which makes this step quick.

  4. 04

    Add Create Idea Comment

Add Create Idea Comment, map the same idea ID, write the reply text and decide if the comment is visible. This second action makes the Zap multi-step.

  5. 05

    Test, then Publish

Test both actions on a test idea and check them in Beamer. When they look right, click Publish. Each new idea then costs two tasks.

Triggers

Beamer triggers: the 9 events that start a Zap

9 events start a Zap when something happens in Beamer, and 9 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Idea Comment

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new comment is sent for an idea.”

Fires when someone comments on an idea in Beamer, so the discussion around a suggestion reaches the people who decide on the roadmap.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a product designer wants every comment on ideas copied to the research notes the team reviews.
Watch out
a Zap that runs Create Idea Comment on the same account will set this trigger off again.
2

New Idea

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new idea is created.”

Starts the Zap each time an idea is created in Beamer, including those a Zap creates through Zapier.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a founder wants each feature request pushed to the backlog tool the developers actually open.
Watch out
ideas created by a Create Idea step also count, so avoid pairing the two in one Zap.
3

New Idea Vote

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new vote is sent for an idea.”

Goes off on every vote an idea receives, the raw signal of which suggestions your users care about most.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a product ops lead keeps a running tally of votes in the spreadsheet used for prioritising.
Watch out
every vote starts a run and each run bills its actions, so a popular idea adds up quickly.
4

New Comment

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new comment is sent for a post.”

Reacts to comments left on your changelog posts, the feedback readers give right under an announcement.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a support lead wants each post comment sent to the support queue so questions get answered.
Watch out
this is the post comment trigger; comments on ideas use New Idea Comment instead.
5

New NPS Response

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new NPS response is received.”

Fires each time a user answers your Beamer NPS survey, so a score never sits unread in a dashboard nobody opens.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a customer success manager gets every answer in the CRM to call back unhappy accounts.
Watch out
answers sent before the Zap was published are never picked up.
6

New Post

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new post is published.”

Kicks off when a post goes live on your Beamer feed, which makes it the hook for spreading an announcement to other channels.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a marketing manager reposts each release note in the newsletter tool.
Watch out
a Zap built on this trigger must not run Create Post on the same feed, or it feeds itself.
7

Post Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a post is deleted.”

Tells Zapier when a post is removed from Beamer, useful to keep copies elsewhere in step with the feed.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a content lead logs every removed announcement in the team's editorial calendar.
Watch out
Zapier has no action to remove a post, so syncing deletions only works toward your other tools.
8

Post Edited

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a post is edited.”

Fires when an existing post is changed, so corrections to a release note do not stay in Beamer alone.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a technical writer wants each edit flagged so the help center copy gets the same fix.
Watch out
several quick edits mean several runs, each costing the tasks of its actions.
9

New Reaction

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new reaction is sent for a post.”

Catches each reaction a reader leaves on a post, the lightest feedback Beamer collects but often the most frequent.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a growth marketer logs reactions to see which announcements actually land.
Watch out
on a busy feed this can burn tasks fast; keep the Zap to one action.
Actions

Beamer actions: what a Zap can do for you

Beamer gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Idea Comment

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new idea comment.”

Writes a comment on an existing idea, the quickest way to show a user their suggestion was read.

When to use it
post a short acknowledgement on each new idea, or relay a status from your backlog.
Watch out
the idea ID and the text are required, and the Visible option decides who can read it.
2

Create Idea Vote

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new idea vote.”

Adds a vote to an existing idea, so requests gathered outside Beamer still weigh in the ranking.

When to use it
a customer asks for an existing idea by email and support counts it for them.
Watch out
the idea ID is the only required field, so the step depends on an earlier one handing it over.
3

Create Idea

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Feedback idea.”

Adds a new idea to Beamer's feedback space from any other tool, with a title and a choice about whether it shows in your feed.

When to use it
a feature request heard on a sales call lands next to the ones users posted.
Watch out
only the title is required; set Visible on purpose so internal notes do not go public.
4

Create Post

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new post.”

Publishes a new post on your Beamer feed, with a title and content you build from earlier steps, plus settings for where and how it shows.

When to use it
a release marked done in your project tool becomes a changelog entry.
Watch out
title and content are required; check Show in Widget and Show in Standalone so the post appears where you expect.
When it breaks

When a Beamer Zap breaks

Zapier links no Beamer help article and lists no Beamer-specific limit, so these are the general traps applied to this app.

Trouble comes from what a Zap does not see, or from a Zap that reacts to its own output. When a run fails, start with the Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • Old ideas and posts are ignored

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Existing posts, ideas and NPS answers are never picked up; moving them is a separate job.
  • The changelog loop

New Post watching your feed while Create Post writes to it, or New Idea with Create Idea: the Zap keeps setting itself off and drains your tasks.
  • A launch day flood

If a trigger suddenly sends a huge batch, after an import for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back.
  • A comment or vote with no idea

Create Idea Comment and Create Idea Vote need an idea ID. If no earlier step provides one, the action has nothing to attach to.

FAQ

Beamer Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Beamer Zapier integration free?
Yes, you can use it on the free Zapier plan, because Beamer is not a premium app. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but every Zap is limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. Once you add a filter or a second action, for example a vote and then a comment on each new idea, the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan. Start with one action to try it for free.
02How many tasks does a Beamer Zap use?
One task for each action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that comments on each new idea uses one task per idea. Add a vote and it becomes two. Failed actions are not billed, and Zapier waiting for Beamer events costs nothing. The risk sits with busy triggers such as New Reaction or New Idea Vote: on a popular feed they can start many runs, and a looping Zap can spend a month of tasks fast.
03Do Beamer triggers run in real time?
Yes. All 9 Beamer triggers are instant: Beamer tells Zapier as soon as a post, an idea, a vote, a comment, a reaction or an NPS answer comes in. The plan intervals for polling triggers, 15 minutes on the free plan, do not apply here. Paid plans shorten that interval to one minute, yet it never concerns Beamer, whose triggers wait for no check. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt.
04What does it take to connect Beamer to Zapier?
A Beamer account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own but want a Zap to use. You add the connection once from the Apps page with + Add connection, sign in to Beamer in the tab that opens, and every Zap reuses it. For the comment and vote actions, also plan where the idea ID will come from, since both need it and Zapier offers no Beamer search to find it.
05Why does a Beamer Zap keep running on its own?
Because it writes where its own trigger listens. New Post with Create Post, New Idea with Create Idea, New Idea Comment with Create Idea Comment and New Idea Vote with Create Idea Vote all form a loop on the same account. Each action creates the very event that starts the Zap again, and the task count drains. Split the work so the trigger and the action never point at the same kind of item.
06What if the Beamer operation you need does not exist?
Then the integration does not offer it today. Zapier shows 9 triggers and 4 actions for Beamer, with no search step and no action to edit or delete a post. A Zap can react to an edit or a deletion, but it cannot make one. You can still cover a lot by combining what exists, such as creating an idea and then commenting on it. Check the operation list before designing the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Beamer?
It depends on your criteria, not on a winner. Compare three things: which Beamer operations each tool offers, how it bills the volume of events your feed produces, and how many steps your workflow truly needs. On Zapier, all 9 Beamer triggers are instant even on the free plan, but any Zap beyond two steps needs a paid plan. Run the same check on the other two tools, with their own operation lists, before you choose.
