What the BigMailer Zapier integration is for
The BigMailer Zapier integration connects BigMailer, an email marketing tool built for agencies and developers, to the rest of your stack of apps. It works in both directions: a new contact in a brand can start a Zap, and a Zap can create or update a contact in a brand.
Three results worth setting up. First, a shared contact log: every subscriber added to a brand lands in a sheet or a CRM through New Contact, so the client team sees signups without logging in to BigMailer. Second, a list that feeds itself: a form, a checkout or a webinar tool hands each person to Add/Update Contact, which files them in the right brand. Third, cleaner records: the same action can update a contact that already exists instead of skipping it, so details stay current.
What Zapier does not do for BigMailer: it cannot send a campaign, look up an existing contact, or react the second a contact appears. The catalog stops at one trigger and one action, and that trigger is checked on a timer rather than pushed by BigMailer. Anything else stays in the BigMailer interface.
If you are weighing platforms, the BigMailer Make integration page covers the same app on Make, and the Make vs Zapier comparison takes up the platform question.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words do most of the work on this page. Here they are without the jargon.
- Zap
- Your contact plumbing between BigMailer and the rest: one event, then the steps that follow, replayed for every new contact.
- Trigger
- What sets the Zap going. On the BigMailer side there is exactly one: New Contact, a person landing in the brand you picked.
- Action
- The work a running Zap does. Add/Update Contact is the BigMailer one: it files a person into a brand, or refreshes their record.
- Task
- What Zapier counts against your plan: one per action that works. A contact the action fails to add leaves the count untouched.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A gate between the trigger and the next step. A contact that misses your rule ends the run there, and nothing reaches the brand.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a BigMailer Zap really costs
The New Contact trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier checks the brand. You only pay for actions that go through.
- Free plan100 tasks a month
- Free plan Zap size1 trigger + 1 action
- Premium appNo
- New Contact checkPolling, interval set by plan
Each successful Add/Update Contact run counts as one task, and a run that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, and a check of polling triggers every 15 minutes. It builds two-step Zaps only, so a filter or a second action pushes you to a paid plan. BigMailer is not a premium app (one Zapier keeps for paid plans), so it works on the free plan from the very first Zap.
Connect BigMailer to Zapier in 3 steps
- 01
Start from the Apps page
Open Apps in your Zapier account and click + Add connection. A connection is your BigMailer account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to BigMailer.
- 02
Find BigMailer
Search for BigMailer in the dialog, pick it from the results, and click Add connection. Zapier then opens a fresh tab where BigMailer takes over the sign-in.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to BigMailer in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. You need your own BigMailer account, plus read or write rights on any brand you do not own that the Zap should touch.
Your first Zap: copy new contacts into a second brand
GoalEvery new contact of one BigMailer brand is added to a second brand, but only when it carries an email address.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Start a new Zap. Choose BigMailer as the app and New Contact as the event, then select the source brand in the Brand field.
- 02
Test on real contacts
Run the trigger test. Zapier pulls the three most recent contacts of that brand, so the mapping you do next is based on a real record.
- 03
Add a filter (paid plans)
Insert a Filter step that only lets contacts with an email go through. It turns the Zap multi-step; on the free plan, leave it out.
- 04
Set up Add/Update Contact
Choose BigMailer again, then Add/Update Contact. Pick the destination brand, map the email from the trigger, and decide on Update Existing.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run the action test and check the contact in the second brand before going further. When it looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
The BigMailer trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in BigMailer. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Contact
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new contact is added to a brand.”
Starts your Zap whenever a contact is added to the BigMailer brand you picked. Each new subscriber becomes a fresh run, with their details ready to map into the next step, whether that is a sheet, a CRM or a chat message.
The BigMailer action
BigMailer gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add/Update Contact
ActionIn Zapier“Creates or updates contact within a specified brand.”
Creates a contact in the brand you choose, or updates it if it is already there. Brand and Email are required, and Update Existing decides what happens to a known address.
When a BigMailer Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to BigMailer, and no limit specific to the app is published. The cases below come from how every Zap behaves.
Most problems are about timing and loops rather than the connection. If a run still fails, the Zapier troubleshooting page is where to look next.
Existing contacts stay put
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Contacts already in the brand never start it; moving that backlog is a separate job.Same brand in and out
If Add/Update Contact writes into the brand New Contact watches, every write can set the Zap off again and burn through your task count fast.Bulk imports held back
Import a large file into a brand and the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch. Zapier's flood protection can hold that batch back instead of running it.No double runs
Zapier remembers the contacts New Contact has already returned, so the same person does not start the Zap twice or cost a second task.
