Genderize Zapier integrationAutomate Genderize with Zapier.
The Genderize Zapier integration gives you 1 action, 0 triggers and 0 searches. Genderize never starts anything on its own: another app hands it a first name, it returns a gender guess, and the next step uses that guess. It runs on the free plan.

What the Genderize Zapier integration actually does
It is a single step you drop into an automation. Some other app collects a person's first name, Zapier passes that name to Genderize, and Genderize sends back a statistical guess of the gender behind it. The guess then travels to whatever step comes next. Nothing more, nothing less.
Picture a coaching business that takes bookings online. Three results come out of that one step. A tagged booking sheet: each new invitee runs through Get Gender From a First Name, and the guess lands in a column next to the booking, ready for a segment later. A reminder that reads right: the guess chooses between two versions of a follow-up message, with a neutral one kept for names the tool cannot place. A headcount by audience for a workshop: rows fill themselves in, so nobody types a gender column by hand.
Now the limits, because they shape everything. Genderize has no trigger on Zapier, so it can never be the thing that starts a Zap. It has no search either. It does one job, on one field, and it only reads a first name (a full name or an email address is the wrong input). It also guesses: the output is a statistical prediction, not a fact about the person, so treat it as a hint for wording, never as data someone gave you.
If you are weighing tools before you build, the Genderize Make integration page covers the same app on another platform, and the n8n vs Zapier comparison explains how those two products differ in general.
Zapier words in one minute
Seven terms come back on every line of this page. Here is each one in plain English.
- Zap
- An automation you build on Zapier: one event that starts it, then one or more steps that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it. Genderize has none.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or works something out for you. Genderize offers exactly one.
- Task
- What Zapier counts against your plan: one action that finishes successfully. Your monthly allowance is a number of these.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer set by your plan. An instant trigger is pushed by the app itself, the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Connection
- Your account of an app, linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to that app.
What a Genderize Zap costs you
Genderize is not a premium app, so the free plan is enough to start.
- Premium appNo
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Billed per run1 task per successful guess
The trigger from the other app costs nothing, however often Zapier checks it. Each successful guess from Genderize counts as one task, and a call that fails is not billed. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and builds two-step Zaps only: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action after Genderize and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan, and each extra action that succeeds is one more task.
Connect Genderize to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your app list
In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box. You need an existing Genderize account before going further.
- 02
Pick Genderize
Type the name in the dialog, select it, then press Add connection. Zapier opens a separate tab where you sign in to your Genderize account with your usual details.
- 03
Grant access
Accept the access request in that tab. The connection now shows in your list, and every Zap that uses Genderize can reuse it without asking you to sign in again.
Your first Zap: log Calendly bookings with a gender guess
GoalA new Calendly invitee is checked by Genderize, and only the guess you choose is written to Google Sheets.
- 01
Build the start
Create a Zap and pick Calendly with its Invitee Created event. Test it: Zapier pulls the three latest bookings, so the mapping happens on a real invitee rather than a blank record.
- 02
Add the Genderize step
Add an action, choose Genderize, then Get Gender From a First Name. Put the invitee's first name in First Name, and only that, never the full booking name.
- 03
Test the guess
Run the step once and read what Genderize returns for that test name. Note the exact value it gives for the gender: the filter in the next step compares against it.
- 04
Set the filter
Add a Filter step, pick the gender value you just saw as the field, a text rule, and the value to match. Use a text rule here, since a number rule never passes on text.
- 05
Send and publish
Finish with Google Sheets, map the booking date, the name and the guess into columns, test, then Publish. This four-card Zap is multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
The one Genderize action
Genderize gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

You hand this step a first name and it hands back a statistical guess of the gender usually attached to it, ready for the next step to use.
When a Genderize Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to Genderize, so the traps below are the general ones. They hit this app as hard as any other.
Because Genderize always sits in the middle of a Zap, most failures start in the app before it. Four cases come back again and again, and the Zapier troubleshooting guide covers the method for working through them.
Bookings made before launch stay blank
Zapier only picks up what happens once the Zap is on. Every invitee already in your calendar keeps an empty gender column, and filling those in is a separate job.A sheet that feeds itself
Write the guess back into the same sheet or list your trigger watches and every write passes for a fresh item. The Zap runs in circles and drains your task count fast.A bulk import goes quiet
Pasting a large batch of rows at once can trip Zapier's flood protection. The trigger app suddenly reports a huge batch and Zapier holds it back instead of running every item straight away.No duplicate guesses
On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen. The same item will not start the Zap twice, so one entry means one guess and one task, not two.
