Overview

What the Campaign Cleaner Zapier integration actually does

It lets Zapier hand your email campaigns to Campaign Cleaner without you copying HTML around. Campaign Cleaner is a tool that tidies email campaigns before you send them. Through Zapier it only receives orders: something else has to start the automation.

Three results you can build today. First, a cleaned campaign: Send Campaign takes the name and full HTML of a newsletter and passes it to Campaign Cleaner, with switches for inlining CSS, swapping risky characters or resizing images. Second, a status you can act on: Get Campaign Status and Get Campaign read where a campaign stands, and Get Campaign returns its HTML, minimized if you ask. Third, a tidy account: Get Campaign List pulls your saved campaigns, Delete Campaign removes one, and Get Credits reads your API credit balance before a big batch.

What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. Campaign Cleaner has no trigger on Zapier, so a cleaned campaign cannot start the next step by itself. There is no search step either, which means you need the Campaign ID from somewhere else (a previous step, a spreadsheet, your own notes) for every action that asks for one. And Zapier does not send the email: Campaign Cleaner cleans it, your sending tool still does the sending.

If you are weighing other platforms, the Campaign Cleaner Make integration covers the same app on Make. There is no n8n page for Campaign Cleaner on this site.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, one line each

Learn these words once and the editor stops looking like a cockpit.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it. Campaign Cleaner has none.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you. All six Campaign Cleaner operations are actions.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Connection
Your Campaign Cleaner account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to Campaign Cleaner.
Cost

What a Campaign Cleaner Zap really costs

Zapier bills tasks, not Zaps. The trigger never costs anything, and neither does Zapier checking for new data.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Zap size on FreeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, Campaign Cleaner works on the free plan
  • Trigger costZero, only completed actions are billed

Each Campaign Cleaner action that succeeds counts as one task. An action that fails is not counted. A Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap eats, and a few apps and actions take more than one task. New to the editor? The Zapier training walks through it. The free plan builds only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second Campaign Cleaner step and you need a paid plan.

Connect

Connect Campaign Cleaner to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Campaign Cleaner account linked once and reused by every Zap.

  2. 02

    Pick Campaign Cleaner

Type Campaign Cleaner in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. You need an existing Campaign Cleaner account for the next step.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Sign in to Campaign Cleaner in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access to the account. From then on, any Zap step can reuse this connection without asking again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: clean every finished template

GoalEach time your email builder marks a template as ready, its HTML goes to Campaign Cleaner, unless the HTML came through empty.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the starting event

Start a new Zap and choose your email builder as the trigger app, with the event that fires when a template is marked ready. Pick the event that matches the moment you want, not a plain save: each template comes through once only.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from the connected account, so you map fields on a real template instead of guessing what it contains.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add a Filter on the field that holds the template HTML, with a rule that it exists. An empty body stops here instead of failing at Send Campaign. A filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add Send Campaign

Choose Campaign Cleaner, then the Send Campaign action. Map the template name into Campaign Name and the full HTML into Campaign HTML. Switch on only the cleaning options you actually want.

  5. 05

    Test, then Publish

Test the action once and read what Campaign Cleaner sent back. If it looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only templates saved after that moment go through.

Actions

Campaign Cleaner actions on Zapier

Campaign Cleaner gives you 6 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Delete Campaign

Action

In Zapier“Deletes Your Campaign.”

Removes a campaign from your Campaign Cleaner account, identified by its ID.

When to use it
you clear out test campaigns once the real one has gone out.
Watch out
map the ID carefully; a wrong value deletes the wrong campaign, so double-check before you publish.
2

Get Campaign

Action

In Zapier“Retrieves a campaign by campaign ID.”

Reads one campaign back from Campaign Cleaner using its ID, and can hand you the HTML minimized if you turn that option on.

When to use it
you want the cleaned HTML stored next to the original in your archive tool.
Watch out
without a Campaign ID from an earlier step, there is nothing to map here.
3

Get Campaign List

Action

In Zapier“RThe Get Campaign List Action Retrieves Your Saved Campaigns.”

Pulls the list of campaigns saved in your Campaign Cleaner account, so later steps can work through them. It needs no ID, which makes it a handy starting point when you do not know what is in the account yet.

When to use it
an agency lead wants a quick inventory of client campaigns before a review meeting.
4

Get Campaign Status

Action

In Zapier“The Get Campaign Status allows you to retrieve the current status of any campaign you specify.”

Tells you where a given campaign currently stands in Campaign Cleaner, so a later step can pass that status along.

When to use it
a project manager wants the current status of a client campaign posted to the team without opening Campaign Cleaner.
Watch out
it needs the Campaign ID, which no search step can look up for you.
5

Get Credits

Action

In Zapier“Retrieves your API Credit Balance.”

Reads the API credit balance of your Campaign Cleaner account and passes the number to the next step. It asks for no field at all, so it can sit anywhere in a Zap.

When to use it
a freelancer sending for several clients wants to see the balance before a batch of campaigns.
6

Send Campaign

Action

In Zapier“Sends your campaign to us to be cleaned.”

Passes a campaign name and its full HTML to Campaign Cleaner for cleaning, with optional switches such as inlining CSS, replacing diacritics or resizing and hosting images.

When to use it
a marketing coordinator wants every newsletter tidied before it goes to the sending tool.
Watch out
the campaign name must pass Campaign Cleaner's sanitization checks, or the step fails.
When it breaks

When a Campaign Cleaner Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to Campaign Cleaner, so the traps below are the general ones of any Zap, applied to this app.

None of the cases below is specific to Campaign Cleaner, but each one shows up fast with an app that has no trigger of its own. If a step keeps failing, the Zapier troubleshooting guide helps find the cause.

  • Old campaigns are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Templates saved before that stay where they are; sending the backlog to Campaign Cleaner is a separate job.
  • A Zap that keeps setting itself off

If a later step writes back into the place your trigger watches, the Zap starts again on its own output and burns through your tasks fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back.
  • A required field left empty

Send Campaign needs both a name and the full HTML, and three other actions need a Campaign ID. An empty mapping makes the step fail, and failed steps cost no task.

FAQ

Campaign Cleaner Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the Campaign Cleaner Zapier integration free?
Yes, on Zapier's side. Campaign Cleaner is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is size: the free plan only builds two-step Zaps, one trigger and one action. Because Campaign Cleaner has no trigger, your trigger comes from another app and your single action is a Campaign Cleaner one. The moment you add a filter or a second action, you need a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Campaign Cleaner Zap use?
One task per Campaign Cleaner action that completes successfully. The trigger costs nothing, and Zapier checking for new items costs nothing either. A Zap that sends a campaign then reads its status uses two tasks per run. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. A few apps and actions take more than one task, so the count is per completed action, never per Zap, and a longer Zap costs more on every run.
03Does a Campaign Cleaner Zap run in real time?
It depends entirely on the app that starts it, because Campaign Cleaner has no trigger of its own. If that app offers an instant trigger, it tells Zapier the moment something happens and the Zap starts right away. If it uses a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, 2 minutes on Professional, 1 minute on Team and Enterprise. The Campaign Cleaner actions then run as soon as the Zap reaches them.
04What does it take to connect Campaign Cleaner?
An existing Campaign Cleaner account, plus access to any campaign you do not own and want the Zap to touch. In Zapier you open the Apps page, click + Add connection, pick Campaign Cleaner, then sign in and grant access in the tab that opens. Before building, make sure the campaigns you want to read or delete already exist, since those actions ask for a Campaign ID that no search step can find for you.
05Why does Send Campaign fail on some campaigns?
Usually because of the name or an empty HTML field. Campaign Cleaner requires both a Campaign Name and the full Campaign HTML, and the name must pass its sanitization checks. If your email builder sends an empty body or a name with characters Campaign Cleaner rejects, the step stops. Test with a real template, read what came back, and fix the mapping before you publish. A failed send costs no task.
06What if the operation needed is not on the list?
Then Zapier cannot do it with Campaign Cleaner today. The list is fixed by the app's integration: six actions, no trigger, no search. Sometimes chaining the existing actions covers it, for example reading the campaign list then the status of one campaign. If it does not, the same app also has a Make integration with its own list of operations, worth checking before building anything. The app page on Zapier shows the current list.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Campaign Cleaner?
Pick by criteria, not by brand. On Zapier, Campaign Cleaner gives six actions, no trigger and no search, and it is not a premium app, so a two-step Zap runs on the free plan. The useful question is whether the operations you need are exposed on the platform you already use. This site covers Campaign Cleaner on Zapier and on Make, so compare the two operation lists side by side; there is no n8n page for it here.
