Chatra Zapier integrationAutomate Chatra with Zapier.

The Chatra Zapier integration gives you 3 triggers, 0 actions and 0 searches. Chatra can start a Zap the second a chat opens, gets a reply or closes, but nothing can write back into Chatra. Every result lands in another tool.

Overview

What the Chatra Zapier integration actually does

It turns live chat events into starting points. Zapier listens to your Chatra account and, when a visitor or an agent opens a conversation, sends a message, or when a conversation ends, it runs whatever you chained after it in your other apps. Chatra is the spark here, never the destination.

Three outcomes cover most setups. A full chat archive: New Finished Conversation fires once per closed chat, so every finished exchange can become one row or one record somewhere you already search. A heads-up for the team: New Conversation fires when a chat starts, which is the moment someone on sales or support wants to know a visitor is talking. A message-level feed: New Message in Conversation fires on every single message, from the visitor or from the agent, for the cases where each line matters.

Now the part the Zapier listing does not spell out. Zapier has no action and no search for Chatra. You cannot create a conversation, post a reply, tag a chat or look up a visitor from a Zap. If your plan relies on pushing data into Chatra, this integration stops short, and you should know it before building anything.

The good news is the speed. All three triggers are instant, so even a free account gets each event without waiting for a timer (more on that in the cost section). For a broader take on the tool, the Zapier review is a useful read, and the Chatra Make integration page covers the same app on another platform.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words, each used again further down without a reminder.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, followed by one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you in another app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Connection
Your Chatra account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap and every step that needs Chatra.
Cost

What a Chatra Zap really costs

The trigger is free. Watching Chatra never costs a task, however many chats come in. You pay only when an action that follows succeeds.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Trigger cost0 tasks, always
  • Failed actionNot counted against the plan

Chatra is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, but only two steps per Zap (one trigger, one action). Add a filter or a second action and it becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. Watch the message trigger: one busy chat can spend several tasks on its own. A failed action costs nothing, and a three-action Zap spends three times more than a one-action Zap.

Connect

Connect your Chatra account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an existing Chatra account first, plus access to the chats you want the Zap to see.

  2. 02

    Find Chatra and confirm

Type Chatra in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. Zapier opens a separate tab where Chatra takes over.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to Chatra in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection then shows up in your list and every future Chatra step can reuse it without asking again.

First Zap

Your first Chatra Zap: log every finished chat

GoalEach conversation that ends in Chatra becomes a row in a spreadsheet, but only the ones that pass your filter.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap, choose Chatra as the app that starts it, and pick New Finished Conversation as the event. Select the connection you added earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier pulls the three most recent finished chats, so pick one that looks like a typical conversation. You will map from it.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Click the plus icon, choose Filter, then set the field to watch, the rule and the value, using something you saw in the test sample. Text rules only work on text.

  4. 04

    Add the action

Add the step in your other app, here a spreadsheet row, and map the chat details from the test into its columns. Test this step once and read what came back.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click publish to switch the Zap on. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it runs on a paid plan. On the free plan, drop the filter and keep two steps.

Triggers

The three Chatra triggers

3 events start a Zap when something happens in Chatra, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Message in Conversation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new message is sent in a conversation by a visitor or an agent.”

Every single message posted inside a chat starts the Zap, whether a visitor typed it or one of your agents answered. It is the finest grain Chatra offers through Zapier: one line of chat, one run.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
when each line counts on its own, for instance to feed a channel where a manager follows live exchanges.
Watch out
a long chat means many runs, and each run with a successful action spends a task, so pair it with a filter or keep it for low volumes.
2

New Conversation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new conversation is started by a visitor or an agent.”

This one fires once, at the very start of a chat, when a visitor opens the window or an agent reaches out first. You get the opening of the exchange, not what follows.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
to warn a salesperson that someone is talking on the site right now, while the visitor is still there.
Watch out
the chat has barely begun when the Zap runs, so do not expect the rest of the conversation in the data you map.
3

New Finished Conversation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a conversation ends.”

Here the Zap waits for the end. When a chat is over, Zapier hears about it once, which makes it the cleanest starting point for anything you want to keep or review later.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
to archive each closed chat as one record in a sheet or a CRM, one row per conversation instead of one per message.
Watch out
nothing reaches the Zap while the chat is still open, so this trigger is wrong for alerts that must arrive during the exchange.
When it breaks

When a Chatra Zap breaks

Zapier lists no help article and no rate limit specific to Chatra.

The weak spots come from Zapier itself and from how the three triggers behave. Four cases are worth knowing before you publish.

  • Old chats are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Conversations that ended last week stay where they are, and moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A burst of events gets held back

If the trigger suddenly sends a huge batch at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of firing them all in one go.
  • The task count drains on busy days

New Message in Conversation runs once per message. With an action behind it, a single long chat spends several tasks, and 100 tasks a month go quickly.
  • The filter stops the free plan

A filter or a second action turns the Zap into a multi-step Zap. On the free plan you cannot publish it, so plan for two steps or a paid plan.

FAQ

Chatra Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Chatra Zapier integration free?
Yes, Chatra is not a premium app, so it works on the free Zapier plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is limited to two steps: one Chatra trigger and one action in another app. As soon as you add a filter or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. Since Chatra only offers triggers, a simple two-step Zap already covers the most common setups, such as logging each finished chat.
02How many tasks does a Chatra Zap use?
The trigger itself never costs a task, so watching Chatra is free. Each action that succeeds afterwards counts as one task, and an action that fails is not counted. The real variable is which trigger you choose. New Finished Conversation runs once per chat, while New Message in Conversation runs once per message, which can multiply the bill on long exchanges. A Zap with two actions spends two tasks per run, three actions spend three.
03Does Chatra send events to Zapier in real time?
Yes, all three Chatra triggers are instant. Chatra tells Zapier the moment a chat starts, a message is sent or a conversation ends, so the Zap runs right away. The polling intervals of the plans (15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise) do not apply here. That is the main advantage for a free account, and the editor shows a lightning bolt on Zaps built on an instant trigger.
04What is required to connect Chatra to Zapier?
A Chatra account and access to the conversations you want the Zap to see. From the Apps page of Zapier, click + Add connection, search Chatra, then Add connection. A tab opens where you sign in to Chatra and grant Zapier access. That connection is stored once, then every Chatra step in every Zap reuses it without asking again. When you test a trigger, Zapier brings back the three most recent items, so a recent chat on the account makes testing easier.
05Can a Zap send a reply or update a chat in Chatra?
No, the Chatra integration on Zapier has 0 actions and 0 searches. A Zap can start from Chatra when a conversation opens, receives a message or ends, but it cannot post a reply, create a chat, change a conversation or look up a visitor. Everything the Zap produces lands in another app. If writing back into Chatra is the core of the project, this integration will not cover it, and that is worth checking before you build.
06What if the Chatra operation for a given use case does not exist?
Start with the three triggers. A new message, a new conversation and a finished conversation cover most needs on the listening side. For anything that has to happen inside Chatra, Zapier offers no action, so the work has to happen in the other app of the Zap. Zapier lists exactly what the integration does on its app page, and that list currently stops at these three triggers. A missing operation cannot be added from the editor.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Chatra?
Compare them on criteria rather than on a verdict. On Zapier, Chatra brings three instant triggers, no action and no search, and works on the free plan within its limits of 100 tasks a month and two steps per Zap. So the questions to ask are whether starting from a chat event is enough, how many runs a month your volume implies, and whether you need filters or several actions. Check each platform's own listing for Chatra against those same criteria.
