GenderAPI.io Zapier integrationAutomate GenderAPI.io with Zapier.
The GenderAPI.io Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 0 actions and 2 searches. It never starts a Zap on its own: some other app does, then GenderAPI.io looks up a likely gender from a person's name or email address.

What the GenderAPI.io Zapier integration actually does
It plugs GenderAPI.io, a service that guesses a gender from a name or an email address, into Zapier, the no-code tool that chains apps together. In practice it is a lookup step: some other app hands over a contact, GenderAPI.io returns its guess, and the steps after it can use that answer.
Three things people build with it. A sorted mailing list: a form entry comes in, Find Gender via Name runs on the first name, and the contact lands in the right audience segment. A cleaner CRM: a new lead with only an email address goes through Find Gender via Email, and the result fills a column nobody wanted to type by hand. A greeting that fits: a signup gets checked before a welcome message goes out, so the salutation matches the person.
Now what it does not do. GenderAPI.io has no trigger on Zapier, so it can never be the first step of a Zap (a Zap always opens on a trigger). It has no action either: it writes nothing, sends nothing, updates nothing. And because both of its operations are searches, any Zap that uses it counts as a multi-step Zap, which the free plan does not build. The app itself is not premium, but the Zap around it still needs a paid plan.
Keep in mind this is a guess from a name, not a fact about a person. Plan for the cases where the answer is empty or doubtful. If you are weighing tools, the GenderAPI.io Make integration covers the same app on Make, and the Make vs Zapier comparison lays out how the two platforms differ.
Zapier words, one line each
Seven terms come up on this page. Here they are in plain English, once.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more steps that run every time that trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. GenderAPI.io has none.
- Action
- The step that does the work once the Zap has started: it writes, sends or moves something for you in an app.
- Task
- What Zapier bills you for: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something in an app and passes what it found to later steps. Both GenderAPI.io operations are this.
What a GenderAPI.io Zap really costs
The trigger costs nothing. Zapier bills tasks, and only for actions that go through.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps per Zap
- Premium appNo, but its searches make the Zap multi-step
- Trigger costNever a task
Checking for new data is free, however often it happens, and a failed action is not counted. Each successful action counts on its own. The catch for this app: the free plan stops at two steps (one trigger, one action), and a search, like a filter, makes the Zap multi-step. So a GenderAPI.io Zap needs a paid plan even though the app is not premium. Budget for that before you start building anything.
Connect your GenderAPI.io account
- 01
Open Apps and add a connection
In Zapier, go to Apps, then click + Add connection. A connection is your GenderAPI.io account linked to Zapier once and reused by every step that needs it. You will need an existing GenderAPI.io account.
- 02
Find GenderAPI.io and confirm
Type the app name in the dialog, pick GenderAPI.io from the results, then click Add connection. Zapier then opens a new tab where the sign-in happens.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to GenderAPI.io in that tab and allow Zapier to use the account. Back in Zapier, the connection now appears under Apps, ready for any search step you add later.
Your first Zap: segment new form signups
GoalEach new Typeform entry gets a gender guess from its name, and only a usable answer goes on to Mailchimp.
- 01
Build: pick the trigger
Create a Zap and choose Typeform with its new entry event. GenderAPI.io cannot start a Zap, so the form does. Testing it brings back the three latest entries to work with.
- 02
Add the search
Click the plus, choose GenderAPI.io, and pick Find Gender via Name from the searches at the bottom of the list. Map the name field from the form entry into it.
- 03
Test the lookup
Run the search once on the sample entry and read what GenderAPI.io sends back. Note the value that holds the guess: the filter in the next step will look at it.
- 04
Add a filter
Add a Filter step, choose that value, a text rule, and set it so only a non-empty guess passes. Entries without a clear answer stop here instead of landing in the wrong segment.
- 05
Send to Mailchimp and publish
Add the Mailchimp step, map the email and the gender guess, test it, then click Publish. From now on, every new entry follows the same path.
The 2 GenderAPI.io searches
2 search steps look for data that already exists in GenderAPI.io, so a later step can use it.
Searches sit at the bottom of the action list in the editor, under the SEARCH heading. Each one has settings worth knowing before you rely on it.
Find Gender via Email
SearchIn Zapier“Finds gender from users email”
Hand it an email address and GenderAPI.io works out a likely gender from it, then passes that guess to the next steps of your Zap.
Find Gender via Name
SearchIn Zapier“Finds gender of the Full Name or First Name”
Give it a first name or a full name and it returns GenderAPI.io's best guess at the gender behind it, ready to map into a later step.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a lookup that returns nothing stops the Zap and skips the steps that depended on it. Switch it on and the Zap carries on without an answer.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into find-or-create. GenderAPI.io offers no such variant, so you will not see it on these two searches.
- If multiple search results are found? When several items match, the search keeps the first by default. It can also stop the Zap or pass every match along at once.
When a GenderAPI.io Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to this app, so the known traps are the ones every Zap shares.
None of them is specific to GenderAPI.io, but each one changes how you should build around a lookup step. For deeper fixes, the Zapier troubleshooting page goes further.
Old contacts are never processed
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Contacts already sitting in your form or CRM get no gender guess unless you move them separately. The Zap keeps firing itself
If the last step writes back into the very place the trigger watches, each write starts the Zap again and your task count drains fast.A bulk import gets held back
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back. The lookup finds nothing
With the default setting, an empty search stops the Zap there. Turn on Successful if no search results are found? if later steps can cope without it.
