Gumroad Zapier integrationAutomate Gumroad with Zapier.

The Gumroad Zapier integration gives you 4 triggers and no action. Gumroad is a starting point only: a sale, a refund, a cancelled subscription or a new product sets off a Zap, and the other apps in your stack do the work that follows.

Overview

What the Gumroad Zapier integration is for

It lets the things that happen in your Gumroad store start automations elsewhere. A buyer pays, asks for a refund or cancels a membership, and Zapier passes that event on to your email tool, your spreadsheet or your team chat. Gumroad is not a premium app, so this works on the free plan.

Three results creators set up first. A buyer list that fills itself: Sale sends each new customer to the tool you email them from. A refund log you never type: Refund records every reversed sale where you track your numbers. A churn alert: Cancellation tells you the moment a subscriber stops paying, while there is still time to write to them. Those three triggers are instant, so even on the free plan nothing waits for a scheduled check.

Now the hard limit. Zapier offers no action and no search for Gumroad: it can listen to your store, never write to it. You cannot create a product, issue a refund or look up a past buyer from a Zap. And a Zap only sees what happens after you switch it on, so every sale made before that day stays out of reach.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary, quickly

Seven words do most of the work on this page. Here they are, once, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run every time it happens.
Trigger
The Gumroad event that starts the Zap, like a sale. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it on its own.
Action
What the Zap does next, in another app: the step that writes, sends or adds something for you.
Task
Zapier's billing unit: one action that completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of these.
Instant vs polling
Instant: Gumroad tells Zapier itself. Polling: Zapier checks on a timer. Three Gumroad triggers are instant, one polls.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the event meets your condition, such as one specific product.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap with more than one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Gumroad Zap really costs

Since Gumroad only triggers, the bill comes from the steps you put after it, in other apps.

  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • BilledEach successful action after the trigger
  • Instant triggersSale, Refund, Cancellation

A Gumroad trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new products. You pay one task per action that completes in the apps that follow, so a Zap that adds a buyer to your list and posts in your team chat uses two per sale. Failed actions are not billed. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is capped at two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and you need a paid plan.

Connect

Connect your Gumroad account

  1. 01

    Start from Apps

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Gumroad account linked once, then reused by every Zap you build on it.

  2. 02

    Find Gumroad

Search for Gumroad in the dialog, select it, and click Add connection. A new tab opens on Gumroad, where you sign in with the account that owns the store.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to access the account. Back in Zapier, the new connection appears in your list. Every Gumroad trigger now offers it in its account dropdown.

First Zap

Your first Zap: welcome the buyers of one product

GoalWhen someone buys your sample pack, add them to the list in your email tool that sends the onboarding sequence for that product.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

From your Zapier dashboard, start a new Zap. The editor opens on the first step, the trigger, which is always where a Zap starts.

  2. 02

    Pick the Sale trigger

Choose Gumroad and the Sale event, then your connection. Sale is instant, so the editor shows a lightning bolt on it and no plan delay applies.

  3. 03

    Test with a real sale

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent sales of your store, and you pick one of the sample pack so the next steps map real buyer data.

  4. 04

    Keep only one product

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Pick the field of the test sale that names the product, a text rule, and the exact name of the pack. The Zap is now multi-step, which needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Add your email tool

Add the action from your email tool that adds a subscriber, choose the onboarding list, and map into it the fields of the Sale step that your email tool asks for.

  6. 06

    Test, then publish

Test the action and check the subscriber appears in your email tool. Then publish the Zap to switch it on. Each matching sale will now cost one task.

Triggers

Gumroad triggers

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Gumroad, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Cancellation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“This Trigger fires every time a cancellation of a subscription occurs.”

Fires each time a subscription gets cancelled in your store. It turns a quiet departure into an event your other tools can act on, which matters for anyone selling subscriptions.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a newsletter writer with a paid tier who wants a heads-up in the team chat and a short goodbye survey sent the same day.
Watch out
a store that sells only one-off products will never see this event.
2

New Product

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when you add a new product to your Gumroad account.”

Picks up each product you add to your Gumroad account, so a launch can ripple out to the rest of your tools without a checklist.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
an illustrator who drops new brush sets and wants each one logged in a catalog sheet and announced to the community.
Watch out
this is the only Gumroad trigger that waits for Zapier's check, so the announcement trails the launch by up to your plan's delay.
3

Refund

Instant trigger

In Zapier“This Trigger fires every time a sale is refunded.”

Reacts whenever a sale gets refunded, and hands that reversed sale to the steps that follow. Handy for keeping revenue numbers honest without opening the dashboard.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a course creator who wants refunded buyers removed from the student community list and the refund noted in the accounting sheet.
Watch out
a refund does not undo what your Sale Zap already did elsewhere; this Zap has to clean it up.
4

Sale

Instant trigger

In Zapier“This Trigger fires every time a sale occurs.”

The workhorse of the four: every purchase in your store starts the Zap, and what the sale carries becomes available to every step that follows.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
an indie musician who sells albums and wants every buyer added to the fan mailing list without exporting a single file.
Watch out
it fires on every product; add a filter if only one of them should feed this Zap.
When it breaks

When it breaks

No help article from Zapier covers Gumroad specifically. These are the general limits that hit a store first.

On a trigger-only app, the steps that follow the trigger all live in other apps, so check those too. Read the four cases below before touching the Gumroad side, and use our Zapier troubleshooting method when a run history shows errors you cannot place.

  • Past sales never come through

A Zap reacts only to what happens after you switch it on. Sales from before that stay in Gumroad; moving the backlog is a separate job.
  • A launch day gets throttled

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, Zapier's flood protection can hold the run back instead of firing on every single event at once.
  • The same product is not sent twice

On the polled New Product trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same product never starts the Zap twice.
  • The free plan stops at two steps

A filter on a product or a second action turns the Zap multi-step. On the free plan it cannot be switched on until you upgrade.

FAQ

Gumroad and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the Gumroad Zapier integration free?
Yes. Gumroad is not a premium app on Zapier, so its triggers work on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, with one catch: each Zap is limited to two steps, one trigger and one action. A Sale trigger that adds the buyer to one list fits. A Zap that filters on a single product, or that also posts to your team chat, becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Gumroad Zap use?
Only the actions after the trigger are counted, one task for each that completes. The Gumroad trigger itself costs nothing, and so do the checks Zapier runs for new products. A Zap that sends each buyer to your email tool uses one task per sale; one that also writes a row to a sheet uses two. Actions that fail are not billed. On a busy launch day, multiply your sales by the number of actions to estimate the bill.
03Does Gumroad trigger Zaps in real time?
Three triggers out of four do. Sale, Refund and Cancellation are instant: Gumroad tells Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts right away on any plan, including the free one. New Product is the exception: it is a polling trigger, checked every 15 minutes on the free plan, every 2 on Professional, and every minute on Team and Enterprise. In the editor, instant triggers show a lightning bolt.
04What does it take to connect Gumroad to Zapier?
Your Gumroad account and a Zapier account. You add the connection once from the Apps page, sign in to Gumroad in the tab that opens and grant access. Every Gumroad trigger then reuses it. Sign in with the account that owns the store you want to automate, because the triggers read that account's sales, refunds, cancellations and products, and nothing else. A brand new store has no item to test with yet.
05Can Zapier create a product or issue a refund in Gumroad?
No. On Zapier, Gumroad has four triggers and no action or search, so a Zap can react to your store but never write to it. Creating a product, refunding a buyer or looking up a past customer all have to happen in Gumroad itself. What a Zap can do is carry each event into other apps: add the buyer to a list, log the refund in a sheet, or warn your team when a subscriber cancels.
06What if the Gumroad operation you need is missing?
Everything Zapier offers for Gumroad is on this page: four triggers, nothing more. If the step you are after is an action on the Gumroad side, Zapier cannot do it with this integration, and no workaround inside a Zap changes that. The realistic route is to check whether another automation tool exposes that operation for Gumroad, which is why the n8n and Make pages for the same app exist and follow the same layout.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Gumroad?
Choose by criterion, not by reputation. First, the operations: on Zapier Gumroad is trigger-only, so check whether the other tools also let you act on the store. Second, speed: on Zapier, Sale, Refund and Cancellation are instant, while New Product follows your plan's polling delay. Third, billing: Zapier counts only completed actions, never the trigger. Our n8n and Make pages for Gumroad use the same structure, so they line up side by side.
