Overview

What the Kit Zapier integration actually does for a creator

The Kit Zapier integration links your Kit account (the email platform for creators and bloggers) to the other apps you run. When something happens on your list, a new subscriber, a sale, a tag, Zapier reacts and does the follow-up work, so nobody copies emails from one tool to another by hand.

Three results people build first. A tagged buyer: New Purchase starts the Zap and Add Tag to Subscriber marks the person, so your next broadcast can exclude customers. A sales history inside Kit: Create or Update Purchase writes an order coming from your checkout tool onto the subscriber record, and creates the subscriber if the email is new. A clean exit: New Unsubscribe tells your other tools that someone left, so the CRM stops treating them as an active lead.

The good news for anyone on a budget: every Kit trigger is instant. Kit pings Zapier the second the event happens, so even the free plan does not wait between checks.

What Zapier does not do with Kit: there is no action to delete a subscriber, and no trigger for a subscriber who simply updates a field. Removing a tag also needs the subscriber ID, not the email, which forces a search step first (more on that below). For anything outside these operations, the API Request (Beta) action is the escape hatch, and it is built for technical users.

Same app, other tool: the Kit Make integration page covers the Make side, and Make vs Zapier lays out how the two platforms differ.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run every single time that event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that kicks off the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier sits and waits for it to occur.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or changes something in an app on your behalf.
Task
The unit Zapier bills you for: one action your Zap finishes successfully. Your plan allowance counts exactly these.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, at once. Every Kit trigger is instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something already stored in an app, so the steps after it can reuse what it found.
Connection
Your Kit account linked to Zapier one time, then reused by every Zap step that talks to Kit.
Cost

What Kit on Zapier costs you in tasks

Kit is not a paid-only app on Zapier, so it runs on the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, and the trigger itself never costs one.

  • Paid-only appNo, Kit works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Trigger costZero tasks, always
  • Kit triggers7 of 7 instant

Each action that succeeds counts once: a Zap that tags a buyer and then adds them to a sequence uses two tasks per sale. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and only two-step Zaps (one trigger, one action). Add a filter, a second action or Find Subscriber, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The polling grid below does not touch Kit, since all its triggers are instant.

Connect

Connect your Kit account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an existing Kit account, plus access to any forms or tags you do not own yourself.

  2. 02

    Pick Kit and confirm

Type Kit in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab then opens on the Kit side, ready for you to sign in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to Kit in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection then shows up in Apps and every Kit step of every Zap you build reuses it from then on.

First Zap

Your first Zap: buyers go straight into an onboarding sequence

GoalEvery new purchase of one product drops the buyer into a welcome sequence, without any manual export.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Kit as the app and New Purchase as the event. Select your Kit connection. The lightning bolt in the editor confirms the trigger is instant.

  2. 02

Test the trigger on a real sale

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent purchases of the account, so pick one that looks like a typical order and use it for the mapping.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, then choose the field to check, the rule and the value. Use a text rule for a product name: a number rule on text never passes.

  4. 04

    Add the sequence action

Add Kit again, event Add Subscriber to Sequence. Pick the onboarding sequence and map the buyer's email from the trigger step into the Email field.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the action and check that the subscriber shows up in the sequence in Kit. Then click Publish. Because of the filter this Zap is multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

Triggers

Kit triggers on Zapier

7 events start a Zap when something happens in Kit, and 7 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Form Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscription occurs on a specific form.”

Starts your Zap when someone signs up through one specific Kit form. You pick the form, and only sign-ups on that form count, so a lead magnet form and a newsletter form can feed two different Zaps.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a freebie download form whose sign-ups should land in your CRM as warm leads.
Watch out
the Form field is required, so build the form in Kit before you set up the Zap, and plan one Zap per form.
2

New Purchase

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new purchase is added to your account.”

Reacts to every purchase recorded in your Kit account, whichever product it is for. That makes it the natural start for customer onboarding, receipts sent to accounting, or a buyer tag.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you sell a course through Kit and want each buyer logged in a sales spreadsheet.
Watch out
there is no product picker on this trigger, so add a filter if only one product matters, which turns the Zap into a paid-plan Zap.
3

New Sequence Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscriber is added to a sequence.”

Fires as soon as someone joins a chosen sequence, the automated email series Kit sends over time. Handy when entering a sequence means the person reached a stage you track elsewhere.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
joining your onboarding sequence should create a task for a coach to say hello.
Watch out
the Sequence field is required, so one Zap watches one sequence; several sequences mean several Zaps.
4

New Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new subscriber is confirmed within your account (has completed any applicable double opt-ins).”

Catches every new subscriber across the whole account, whatever form or page brought them in. The catch: Kit only reports someone once they are confirmed, which means after any double opt-in they had to complete.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a single Zap that copies every confirmed subscriber to your CRM.
Watch out
people who never click the confirmation email never start the Zap, so your counts in Zapier can sit below your raw sign-ups.
5

Subscriber Added to Tag

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a specific tag is added to a subscriber.”

Watches one tag and starts the Zap each time that tag lands on a subscriber. Tags are how most Kit users mark interest or status, so this is often the most flexible trigger of the lot.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a "webinar-registered" tag should send the person's details to your webinar tool.
Watch out
the Tag field is required, and a Zap that adds the same tag it watches will set itself off again and again.
6

Tag Removed From Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a specific tag is removed from a subscriber.”

The mirror of the previous one: it starts when a chosen tag comes off a subscriber. Useful when a tag stands for a status that can end, such as an active trial or a paid membership.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
removing the "member" tag should revoke access in your community tool.
Watch out
the Tag field is required, so pick the exact tag whose removal matters; there is no "any tag" option on this trigger.
7

New Unsubscribe

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscriber unsubscribes from your emails.”

Kicks in whenever a subscriber opts out of your emails. It closes the loop for the other tools that keep a copy of your list, so nobody keeps getting messages after saying no.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
marking the contact as unsubscribed in your CRM the moment they leave Kit.
Watch out
unsubscribes that happened before the Zap was published are not picked up, so clean the old ones by hand once.
Actions

Kit actions on Zapier

Kit gives you 6 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add Subscriber to Form

Action

In Zapier“Subscribe someone to a specific form.”

Signs a person up to a specific Kit form from another app, exactly as if they had filled it in. If the email is not on your list yet, Kit creates the subscriber.

When to use it
a lead from a webinar platform should enter Kit through the same form as your website sign-ups.
Watch out
if the form has a sequence attached, decide whether the person also joins it; the option is there on the step.
2

Create or Update Purchase

Action

In Zapier“Adds a purchase to a subscriber, or updates an existing purchase.”

Writes a sale onto a subscriber's record, or updates it if that transaction is already known. A new email creates the subscriber on the way.

When to use it
orders from an outside checkout should show up in Kit so you can segment buyers.
Watch out
Transaction ID, Email, Product name and Product ID are all required; reuse the same transaction ID and the step updates instead of adding.
3

Add Subscriber to Sequence

Action

In Zapier“Add a subscriber to a specific sequence.”

Puts someone into one of your sequences so the series starts for them. As with the form action, an unknown email becomes a new subscriber.

When to use it
a booked call in your calendar tool should start a pre-call email series.
Watch out
pick the sequence in the step; it must already exist in Kit.
4

Add Tag to Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Add a subscriber to a specific tag.”

Applies one tag to a subscriber identified by email, creating the subscriber if needed. It is the lightest way to push information from another tool into Kit segments.

When to use it
a refund in your payment tool tags the person so they leave your upsell emails.
Watch out
tags added here also fire any Zap built on Subscriber Added to Tag for that tag.
5

Remove Tag From Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Remove a specific tag from a subscriber if they have it.”

Takes a given tag off a subscriber, if they carry it. Unlike the other Kit actions, this one asks for the Subscriber ID rather than an email.

When to use it
a cancelled membership drops the "member" tag.
Watch out
when your trigger only gives you an email, put Find Subscriber before this step to get the ID.
6

API Request (Beta)

Action

In Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”

An advanced step that sends your own HTTP request to Kit, reusing the connection you already set up. It covers what the other actions do not.

When to use it
a developer on your team needs a Kit feature that has no ready-made action.
Watch out
HTTP Method, URL and Stop on error are required, and requests only go to Kit's own domains.
Searches

Kit search on Zapier

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Kit, so a later step can use it.

Kit has a single search step. It sits at the bottom of the event list, under SEARCH, and three settings decide what happens when the result is not what you expected.

1

Find Subscriber

Search

In Zapier“Finds an existing confirmed subscriber by email.”

Looks up an existing subscriber from an email address and hands their details to the next steps. Only confirmed subscribers come back.

When to use it
you have an email from a form tool and need the Subscriber ID that Remove Tag From Subscriber asks for.
Watch out
someone who never confirmed a double opt-in is not found, and adding this step makes the Zap multi-step.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left as is, a search that finds nobody stops the Zap and the following steps are skipped. Switch it on and the Zap continues with empty values.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into find-or-create. Kit offers no such variant on Zapier, so Find Subscriber always stays a plain lookup.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three exits: keep the first match (the default), stop the Zap, or pass every match along to the next steps.
When it breaks

When a Kit Zap breaks

Kit triggers are instant, so delay is rarely the issue. The problems come from logic and from history.

Zapier keeps a help article titled Common Problems with Kit on Zapier; the four cases below are the ones this page can vouch for. If a Zap stays stuck after these checks, see Zapier troubleshooting.

  • Old subscribers never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Subscribers, tags and sales that existed before are ignored, so a backlog has to be moved separately.
  • The tag Zap that runs forever

A Zap triggered by Subscriber Added to Tag that adds that same tag sets itself off again and again, and burns through your tasks fast.
  • Bulk import, Zap held back

Import a big list or migrate from another tool, and the sudden flood of events can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.
  • Find Subscriber comes back empty

The search only returns confirmed subscribers. Someone still waiting on double opt-in is not found, and the Zap stops there by default.

FAQ

Kit Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the Kit Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as your Zap has two steps. Kit is not reserved for paid plans on Zapier, so it works on the free plan, which includes 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps. The limit people miss is the shape of the Zap: free means one trigger and one action. Adding a filter, a second action or the Find Subscriber search turns it into a multi-step Zap, and that requires a paid plan. You still need your own Kit account on the side.
02How many tasks does a Kit Zap use?
One task per action that completes successfully, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that starts on New Purchase and adds a tag uses one task per sale. If it also adds the buyer to a sequence, that is two tasks per sale. Actions that fail are not counted. Checking for new events never costs anything either, so a busy list only weighs on your bill through the actions that actually run. A few apps and actions can take more than one task, so keep an eye on the task history.
03Do Kit triggers on Zapier run in real time?
Yes. All seven Kit triggers are instant: Kit notifies Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts right away. The plan interval grid, 15 minutes on the free plan and down to 1 minute on Team and Enterprise, only applies to polling triggers, and Kit has none. In the editor, the lightning bolt next to the trigger confirms it. This is good news for free plan users, who get the same speed as everyone else on Kit.
04What does it take to connect Kit to Zapier?
A Kit account and a Zapier account. From the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for Kit, then click Add connection and sign in to Kit in the tab that opens. Grant Zapier access and the connection is saved for every future Zap. If you want to work with forms, sequences or tags, create them in Kit beforehand: those fields are required on most Kit steps and only show existing items.
05Why does Remove Tag From Subscriber ask for an ID instead of an email?
Because that action identifies the subscriber by Subscriber ID, unlike the other Kit actions that work from an email. When your trigger only provides an email, add Find Subscriber just before it: the search looks the person up by email and passes the ID along. Two caveats. The search only finds confirmed subscribers, so someone stuck in double opt-in is skipped. And the extra step makes the Zap multi-step, which means a paid Zapier plan.
06What if the Kit action that's needed does not exist on Zapier?
Use API Request (Beta). This advanced action sends a raw HTTP request to Kit using the connection already in place, so there is no second login to manage. It requires an HTTP method, a URL on one of Kit's own domains, and a choice on Stop on error. It is meant for a technical profile on your team. Before going there, check the six standard actions: they already cover forms, sequences, tags and purchases, and they ask for nothing more than the fields listed on this page.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Kit?
It depends on your criteria, not on a winner. On Zapier, Kit offers seven instant triggers, six actions and one search, works on the free plan, and bills one task per successful action. Weigh how many steps your workflows need, since anything beyond two steps needs a paid Zapier plan, who on your team will maintain the automations, and how much volume you expect. Then compare the same points on the dedicated Make and n8n pages before choosing.
