Overview

What the KlickTipp Zapier integration actually does for you

It links your KlickTipp account to the rest of your tools without code. Something happens in KlickTipp (a tag is added, an email is opened, a link is clicked) and Zapier reacts. Or the reverse: something happens elsewhere, and Zapier writes the contact, the tag or the unsubscribe into KlickTipp for you.

Three results people usually come for. First, new leads land tagged: a sign-up from your webinar tool goes through Add or Update Contact, then Tag Contact, and your KlickTipp campaign starts on its own. Second, your sales team hears about hot clicks: Watch New Events fires when someone clicks a pricing link, Get Contact fetches the full record, and a message goes to the rep. Third, unsubscribes stay in sync: when a customer cancels in your billing tool, Unsubscribe Contact stops the emails so nobody gets mailed after saying no.

What Zapier does not do here. There is no search step for KlickTipp, so the lookups (Search Contact ID, Get Tag) are actions, and each one that works counts as a task. And nothing that happened before your Zap went live gets picked up: moving an old list is a separate job.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words, and the rest of the page reads easily.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier sits and waits for it to happen in KlickTipp.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like tagging a contact.
Task
What Zapier bills you for: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan quota is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier the moment something happens. KlickTipp's trigger is instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Connection
Your KlickTipp account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that touches KlickTipp.
Cost

What it really costs to run

KlickTipp is not reserved for paid plans: it works from the free plan.

  • TriggerFree, never counted
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Filter or second actionPaid plan required

The trigger never costs a task. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap with three actions uses three times what a one-action Zap uses. A failed action costs nothing. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two steps per Zap: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and it becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. Polling intervals per plan don't matter here: the KlickTipp trigger is instant.

Connect

Connect KlickTipp to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need an active KlickTipp account first, with access to the contacts and tags the Zap will touch.

  2. 02

    Pick KlickTipp

Type KlickTipp in the search box of the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens with the KlickTipp sign-in screen.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to KlickTipp in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection now shows on the Apps page and every KlickTipp step in every Zap can reuse it.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log every pricing-link click in a sheet

GoalWhen a contact clicks a tracked link in a KlickTipp email, fetch the full contact and add a row to a Google Sheet your sales team watches.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose KlickTipp as the app and Watch New Events as the event. Then select the KlickTipp connection you made earlier.

  2. 02

Test the trigger on a real event

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent events from your account, so pick one that is a real click and build the next steps on it.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Add a Filter step with the plus icon. Pick the field that says what kind of event came in, a text rule, and the value for a click. This step makes the Zap multi-step, so a paid plan.

  4. 04

Fetch the contact, then write the row

Add KlickTipp with Get Contact, map the contact from the trigger, then add the spreadsheet step and map the fields you want in each column.

  5. 05

    Test each step, then publish

Test every step once and read what comes back. When the row looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only clicks from that moment on are logged.

Triggers

The KlickTipp trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in KlickTipp, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Watch New Events

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a webhook event occurs in KlickTipp, such as a tag being added, an email being opened or sent, a link clicked, an SMS sent, and more.”

Starts your Zap whenever KlickTipp reports an event on a contact: a tag being added, an email sent or opened, a link clicked, an SMS sent. One trigger covers all of them, and the event data tells you which one happened.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when your sales or support team needs to act on a contact's behavior while it is still fresh, like a click on an upgrade link.
Watch out
the trigger asks whether your KlickTipp webhook sends a fixed authentication value. Answer Yes only if it does; if no authentication is set up, choose No.
Actions

The 19 KlickTipp actions, grouped by what you want done

KlickTipp gives you 19 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Tag

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new manual tag”

Creates a new manual tag in your KlickTipp account; all it needs is a name.

When to use it
a new product or webinar appears in another tool and you want a matching tag ready before anyone gets tagged.
Watch out
run it once per new tag, not once per contact, or you end up with clones.
2

Delete Contact

Action

In Zapier“Deletes a contact”

Removes the contact from your KlickTipp account, which goes further than an unsubscribe.

When to use it
a data-deletion request comes in through a form and the record must go.
Watch out
you must say how the contact is identified, so put a filter in front of it on a paid plan and test with a dummy contact.
3

Get Contact

Action

In Zapier“Returns the complete data of a contact”

Returns everything KlickTipp holds on one contact, so later steps can use those values.

When to use it
the trigger gave you an event, and the next step needs the person's name and fields to write a useful message.
Watch out
it is an action, not a search step, so each successful lookup counts as a task.
4

Search Contact ID

Action

In Zapier“Returns the contact ID for an email address”

Turns an email address into the KlickTipp contact ID that some other steps ask for.

When to use it
your source app only knows the email, and a later step wants to identify the contact by ID.
Watch out
despite its name it sits among the actions and costs a task when it works.
5

Get Data Field

Action

In Zapier“Gets the ID and the name of a data field”

Gives you the ID and name of one KlickTipp data field, one of the custom fields stored on your contacts.

When to use it
you are wiring a Zap and need to confirm which field is which before mapping values into it.
Watch out
it returns the field definition, not the value a given contact holds.
6

Get Opt-In Process

Action

In Zapier“Returns the complete data of an opt-in process”

Returns the full settings of one opt-in process, the sign-up flow a new contact goes through.

When to use it
a report or a later step needs to know how a given opt-in process is set up.
Watch out
you have to name the opt-in process; the step does not guess it from a contact.
7

Search Redirect URL

Action

In Zapier“Search the redirection URL for a specific opt-in process”

Finds the redirection URL of a given opt-in process for a given email address.

When to use it
after a sign-up handled outside KlickTipp, you want to send the person to the page their opt-in process normally points to.
Watch out
both the opt-in process and the email address are required.
8

Get Tag

Action

In Zapier“Returns the name and description of a tag”

Reads the name and description of one tag, handy when a step only received its ID.

When to use it
a notification should say "Webinar attendee" in plain words rather than a number.
Watch out
the tag is required, and the result is its label, not the contacts behind it.
9

List Contacts

Action

In Zapier“Lists the IDs of all active contacts”

Hands back the IDs of every active contact in your account in one go.

When to use it
a periodic check or export where another tool needs the full set of active IDs.
Watch out
you get IDs, not full records; fetching details for each one would cost a task per contact.
10

List Data Fields

Action

In Zapier“Lists the IDs and names of all data fields”

Lists the ID and name of all data fields set up in your account.

When to use it
you are planning a contact sync and want the full field map in front of you.
Watch out
this is structure only; the values live on each contact.
11

List Opt-In Processes

Action

In Zapier“Lists the IDs and names of all opt-in processes”

Shows the ID and name of each opt-in process you have built in KlickTipp.

When to use it
you run several sign-up flows and need the right one for a Search Redirect URL step.
Watch out
names are what you set in KlickTipp, so vague names make the right pick hard.
12

Search Tagged Contacts

Action

In Zapier“Returns the IDs and tagging timestamps of all tagged contacts”

Lists every contact carrying a given tag, with the moment each one was tagged.

When to use it
you want to know who entered a launch segment and when, to brief your sales team.
Watch out
the tag is required, and like the other lookups here it counts as a task.
13

List Tags

Action

In Zapier“Lists the IDs and names of all tags”

Returns the ID and name of every tag in your KlickTipp account.

When to use it
you need to find the ID a Tag Contact step expects without leaving Zapier.
Watch out
tags created after this step ran won't be in the result, so run it again if your tag list changes.
14

Add or Update Contact

Action

In Zapier“Adds a new contact. If a contact with the same email already exists, it will be updated.”

Puts a person into KlickTipp: new email, new contact; known email, the existing contact is updated instead of duplicated.

When to use it
as the landing step for every form, checkout or event registration that feeds your list.
Watch out
since a known email gets overwritten, map only the fields you want to replace.
15

Tag Contact

Action

In Zapier“Adds one or more tags to a contact”

Sticks one or several tags on a contact, which is what starts most KlickTipp campaigns and sequences.

When to use it
a customer buys a course in your checkout tool and should enter the onboarding sequence right away.
Watch out
it needs both the email address and the tag IDs, and the tags must already exist.
16

Unsubscribe Contact

Action

In Zapier“Unsubscribes a contact, preventing further communication”

Unsubscribes a contact so KlickTipp stops writing to them.

When to use it
someone asks your support desk to stop all emails and you want it applied without a manual export.
Watch out
it works from the email address alone, so make sure the right one is mapped.
17

Untag Contact

Action

In Zapier“Removes a tag from a contact”

Takes one tag off a contact, which pulls them out of whatever that tag drives.

When to use it
a lead books a sales call, so the nurture tag goes and the reminder emails stop.
Watch out
the email address and the tag are both required, so carry both from an earlier step.
18

Update Contact

Action

In Zapier“Updates a contact”

Changes the data of a contact who is already in KlickTipp, without the add-new branch.

When to use it
your CRM changes a customer's plan or company and KlickTipp should reflect it for segmentation.
Watch out
you must tell it how to identify the contact, so carry that value from an earlier step.
19

Update Tag

Action

In Zapier“Updates a tag”

Edits an existing tag, for example to rename it so it matches the new name of a campaign.

When to use it
your offer gets renamed in your shop and the tag naming should follow.
Watch out
the tag is required, so pick it or map its ID from a previous step.
When it breaks

When a KlickTipp Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to KlickTipp, so the usual failures here are the ones every Zap can hit.

Four cases come up again and again. Most are easy to avoid once you know them, and the Zapier troubleshooting page goes further when a Zap still won't behave.

  • Old contacts are ignored

A Zap only reacts to events that happen after you publish it. Clicks and tags from last month stay where they are; moving that history is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps setting itself off

If the trigger watches tag events and the action tags the same contact, each run creates a new event. The Zap loops and burns your tasks fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Tag thousands of contacts at once and Zapier's flood protection can hold the sudden batch instead of running the Zap on each one.
  • The trigger receives nothing

The Authentication answer on Watch New Events must match your KlickTipp webhook. Yes only if it sends a fixed authentication value; otherwise No.

FAQ

KlickTipp Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the KlickTipp Zapier integration free?
Yes, KlickTipp works on the Zapier free plan because Zapier does not reserve it for paid plans. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like. The catch is size: each Zap on the free plan has two steps only, one trigger and one action. A filter, a second action or any extra step turns it into a multi-step Zap, and that needs a paid plan. KlickTipp's own subscription is separate and not covered here.
02How many tasks does a KlickTipp Zap use?
One task per action that completes successfully, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that reacts to a click and then tags the contact uses one task per run. If it also fetches the contact with Get Contact before tagging, that is two tasks per run. An action that fails is not counted. Keep in mind that the KlickTipp lookups, like Search Contact ID or List Tags, are actions on Zapier, so each one that works counts too.
03Does the KlickTipp trigger run in real time?
Yes. Watch New Events is an instant trigger: KlickTipp tells Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts right away. The plan intervals that apply to polling triggers, such as 15 minutes on the free plan, do not apply here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. Speed then depends on the actions that follow, not on how often Zapier checks.
04What does connecting KlickTipp to Zapier require?
An active KlickTipp account and a Zapier account. From the Apps page in Zapier, add a connection, pick KlickTipp, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. If the Zap will touch contacts or tags you don't own yourself, you also need read or write access to them. The connection is made once, and every KlickTipp step in every Zap reuses it afterwards, so there is no need to sign in again for each new Zap.
05Why does Tag Contact fail even though the email is right?
Usually because the tag is missing. Tag Contact requires both the email address and the tag IDs, and those tags have to exist in KlickTipp before the step runs. Create the tag in KlickTipp first, or put a Create Tag step earlier in the Zap on a paid plan. List Tags returns the ID and name of each tag if you're not sure which ID to map. Untag Contact has the same requirement: it needs the tag as well as the email.
06What if a KlickTipp operation is missing from Zapier?
Check the list of 19 actions first, since several lookups go by names that don't sound like actions, such as Search Contact ID or Search Tagged Contacts. KlickTipp has no search step on Zapier, so every lookup it offers sits among those actions. If the operation still isn't there, the Zap can't do it with the KlickTipp app alone. In that case, handle that part by hand in KlickTipp, or rethink the Zap so another step does the job.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for KlickTipp?
It depends on criteria, not on a winner. Look at whether the exact operations needed exist on each platform, how each one bills a run, and whether you want hosting handled for you. On Zapier, KlickTipp offers one instant trigger and 19 actions, and runs on the free plan as long as each Zap stays at two steps. Compare that with what the other tools list for KlickTipp before committing.
