Overview

What the Law Dash Zapier integration does for a law firm

The Law Dash Zapier integration plugs Law Dash, a lead-tracking dashboard built for law firms, into a Zap: the automation you build on Zapier, one trigger followed by one or more actions. It works in both directions. A new lead in Law Dash can start a Zap, and a Zap started elsewhere can add a lead to Law Dash.

Three results you can get from it. Leads that land on their own: a website form starts the Zap and Add New Lead to LawDash files the person in the dashboard, with first name, last name, phone, email and the source. Leads that travel out: New Lead starts a Zap that passes each fresh lead to another tool the firm uses. A sorted intake: a filter between the form and the action keeps only the entries that meet your condition, so nothing irrelevant reaches Law Dash; with that filter the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan.

What Zapier does not do here: it cannot update or delete a lead, because the only action creates one, and it cannot look a lead up, because there is no search. It never brings in leads that existed before the Zap was switched on. New Lead is a polling trigger, so a lead waits for the next check rather than arriving the second it is added.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Six words, and the rest of the page reads easily.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier. One trigger starts it, then one or more actions run every time that trigger fires.
Trigger
The event that starts a Zap, such as New Lead in Law Dash. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like adding a lead.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completed successfully. Your plan's monthly allowance is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
Polling: Zapier asks the app for new items on a timer. Instant: the app tells Zapier itself. New Lead works by polling.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Cost

What it really costs

New Lead never costs a task, and neither do Zapier's checks on Law Dash, however frequent. Each Add New Lead to LawDash that goes through is billed as one task.

  • New Lead triggerNo task
  • Add New Lead to LawDash, successfulCounted as a task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

In a Zap with several actions, each successful one counts on its own, so three actions use three times what one does. An action that fails is not counted, and a few apps and actions take more than one task. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only: a filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Law Dash is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan.

Connect

Connect your Law Dash account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

Sign in to Zapier and go to the Apps page of your account. Connections live there: an account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that needs it. You need an existing Law Dash account.

  2. 02

    Find Law Dash

Click + Add connection, type Law Dash in the search box of the dialog and select it. Then click Add connection to open the Law Dash sign-in in a new tab.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Sign in to Law Dash in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access to the account. If the leads you want the Zap to touch are not yours, make sure your account can read and write them first.

First Zap

Your first Zap: new Law Dash leads to another tool

GoalPass each new Law Dash lead that meets your condition to another tool the firm uses.

  1. 01

    Start from New Lead

In the editor, pick Law Dash as the app that starts the Zap and New Lead as the event, then select the connection you just added.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent leads of the connected account, so the next steps are mapped on a real one.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Use the plus icon under the trigger and add a Filter: the field to check, the rule, the value. A text rule only works on text and a number rule on numbers.

  4. 04

    Add the action

Add the step in the other tool that should receive the lead and map the Law Dash details into it. Test it once and read what came back before going further.

  5. 05

    Publish

Publish the Zap to switch it on. It reacts only to leads added from then on, and with a filter on board it needs a paid plan.

Triggers

The Law Dash trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Law Dash. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Lead

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new lead is added to LawDash.”

Every lead that gets added to Law Dash starts your Zap, and its details become available to the steps that follow.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when a lead recorded in the dashboard should also show up in another tool the firm works with, without anyone copying it over.
Watch out
never pair it with Add New Lead to LawDash in the same Zap, or each lead the Zap adds starts it again.
Actions

The Law Dash action

Law Dash gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add New Lead to LawDash

Action

In Zapier“Adds New Lead to LawDash App”

Creates a lead in Law Dash from whatever the earlier steps of the Zap collected.

When to use it
when leads reach you through a form or another app and you want them in the dashboard without retyping.
Watch out
all five fields are required, Source included; it takes free text describing where the lead came from, such as a website form.
When it breaks

When it breaks

Zapier links no help article to Law Dash and records no limit of its own.

The cases below come from how Zapier works with any app, and one of them is specific to the way Law Dash pairs its trigger and its action. For other cases, see Zapier troubleshooting.

  • The Zap that feeds itself

New Lead watches the very place Add New Lead to LawDash writes to. Put both in one Zap and every lead it adds sets it off again, burning through tasks fast.
  • No backfill of old leads

A Zap only reacts to leads added after it is switched on. Leads already in Law Dash are never picked up; moving them is a separate job.
  • Bulk imports held back

After a bulk import or a migration, New Lead can suddenly return a huge batch, and Zapier's flood protection may hold it back instead of running it all.
  • No duplicate runs

Zapier keeps track of the leads it has already seen on this polling trigger, so the same lead never starts the Zap twice.

FAQ

Law Dash and Zapier: common questions

01Is the Law Dash Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as the Zap stays at two steps. Law Dash is not a premium app, so it is not held back for paid plans. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month, checks New Lead every 15 minutes and builds Zaps of one trigger and one action. A website form feeding Add New Lead to LawDash fits that. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which only paid plans allow.
02How many tasks does a Law Dash Zap use?
One per successful action. The New Lead trigger costs nothing, and neither do Zapier's checks on Law Dash, however often they happen. Each Add New Lead to LawDash that goes through is one task, so a form sending ten leads uses ten. An action that fails is not counted. In a Zap with several actions, each success is billed separately, and a few apps and actions take more than one task each.
03Does Law Dash send new leads to Zapier in real time?
No. New Lead is a polling trigger: Zapier asks Law Dash for new leads on a timer and keeps only those it has not seen. The interval depends on the plan: 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. The app's own service decides this, so no editor setting makes it instant. On paid plans the interval can be adjusted and a check can be run by hand.
04What does it take to connect Law Dash to Zapier?
A Law Dash account and a Zapier account. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Law Dash, click Add connection, sign in to Law Dash in the new tab and grant access. If the Zap will touch leads that are not yours, your account needs read or write access to them. For the action, the app feeding the Zap must supply First Name, Last Name, Phone, Email and Source.
05Can New Lead and Add New Lead to LawDash run in the same Zap?
They can, but it is a trap. New Lead watches Law Dash for new leads, and Add New Lead to LawDash creates exactly that. A Zap holding both adds a lead, notices it on the next check, adds another, and keeps going, eating tasks each round. Use New Lead to send leads out of Law Dash, and the action to bring leads in from another app, in two separate Zaps.
06What if the Law Dash operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then this integration does not cover it today. Law Dash offers one trigger, New Lead, and one action, Add New Lead to LawDash, with no search. A Zap cannot update a lead, delete one or look one up in Law Dash. If the job involves anything beyond spotting new leads or adding them, it falls outside what the Zapier app can do, and another route has to be found for that part.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Law Dash?
It depends on your criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier the facts are set: one polling trigger, one action with five required fields, no premium restriction, and a free plan of 100 tasks a month limited to two-step Zaps. For Make and n8n, check first whether each offers a Law Dash connector and what it can do. Then weigh the cost of a run, how fast new leads get picked up, and the setup effort.
