Overview

What the Le Sphinx Zapier integration actually does

The Le Sphinx Zapier integration connects survey software to the rest of your tools. Le Sphinx covers the whole survey cycle, from building the questionnaire to sending it, analysing the data and charting it. Zapier takes the moments that matter out of it, a finished survey or a new blacklist entry, and can also feed recipients and responses back in.

Three outcomes cover most uses. Answers that leave the survey tool: New Response With Answers passes each completed survey with its answers to another app, while New Response only signals that a survey was completed. A contact list that respects opt-outs: New Email Blacklisted and New Phone Number Blacklisted tell your other tools when someone lands on a blacklist. And a campaign or a project fed from elsewhere: Create a New Recipient adds a person to a campaign, Create a New Response records a response in a survey.

Now the limits. All four triggers are polling ones, so nothing is immediate and the wait depends on your plan. There is no search, so a Zap cannot look up an existing recipient or response. Nothing deletes or edits either. And a Zap that starts on New Response and also creates a response can set itself off again and again.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words carry the rest of the page. Each one is explained here once, then used as is.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every single time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for it. Le Sphinx offers four.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like adding a recipient to a campaign.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action your Zap completes successfully; your plan counts those, nothing else.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer for new items. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and quietly stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your Le Sphinx account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Le Sphinx step of every Zap you build.
Cost

What a Le Sphinx Zap really costs

Le Sphinx is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only actions that go through are counted.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Le Sphinx triggersAll 4 polling, checked on your plan's interval

The trigger never costs a task, and Zapier checking Le Sphinx for new responses costs nothing either, however often it looks. Each action that succeeds counts once, a failed one is not billed. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, limited to two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step (anything beyond one trigger and one action), which needs a paid plan. Since all four Le Sphinx triggers are polling ones, the grid below sets how often Zapier checks.

Connect

Connect Le Sphinx to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Le Sphinx account, plus access to any project or campaign you do not own yourself but want the Zap to use.

  2. 02

    Pick Le Sphinx

Type Le Sphinx in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Le Sphinx side, where the actual sign-in takes place.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to Le Sphinx in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection then shows up in your list, and every Le Sphinx step of every Zap reuses it.

First Zap

Your first Le Sphinx Zap, step by step

GoalSend the answers of each completed Le Sphinx survey to another app, only when they meet a condition you choose.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Create a new Zap, pick Le Sphinx as the app that starts it and choose New Response With Answers. Select your connection and the Project Id of the survey to watch.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent completed surveys of that project, so you map real answers instead of guessing their shape.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, open Configure & test and set the answer to look at, the rule and the value. Use a number rule on a score and a text rule on text.

  4. 04

    Add the action

Add the app that should receive the answers and choose its action. Map the Le Sphinx answers from the trigger into it, then test the step.

  5. 05

    Publish

Check what each test returned, then click Publish. With the filter, the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan; without it, the free plan is enough.

Triggers

Le Sphinx triggers in Zapier

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Le Sphinx. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Email Blacklisted

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email is added to a blacklist.”

Starts a Zap whenever an email address is added to a blacklist in Le Sphinx. Your other tools learn about it too, so a person who should no longer be contacted is not reached from somewhere else by mistake.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
another app sends messages to the same people and has to honour the blacklist kept in Le Sphinx.
Watch out
addresses blacklisted before the Zap was switched on are not sent, so align the existing list by hand once.
2

New Phone Number Blacklisted

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an phone number is added to a blacklist.”

The phone counterpart of New Email Blacklisted: it kicks off each time a phone number joins a blacklist in Le Sphinx. The Zap receives that number and can flag it in whichever tool also reaches people by phone.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
a separate tool calls or texts the same contacts and needs to stop as soon as Le Sphinx blocks a number.
Watch out
on the free plan, a number can wait a while before Zapier sees it, so plan the delay into anything urgent.
3

New Response

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a survey is completed.”

Fires when someone completes a survey. It tells the Zap that a response came in, which is enough to count, notify or log completions without needing the content of each answer.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
the next step only cares that a survey was finished, not what was answered in it.
Watch out
if the same Zap also uses Create a New Response, every response it records can start it again, in a loop.
4

New Response With Answers

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a survey is completed. Answers are available.”

Also fires on a completed survey, but carries the answers with it. That is the trigger to pick when the next app needs what people actually said, to sort, store or follow up on each reply.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
the content of each answer has to land in another tool, field by field.
Watch out
it asks for a Project Id, so the survey must sit in a project your connected account can reach.
Actions

Le Sphinx actions in Zapier

Le Sphinx gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create a New Recipient

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new recipient to a given campaign”

Adds a person to a given Le Sphinx campaign, as a new recipient of that campaign. The contact comes from an earlier step, not from a manual entry.

When to use it
people appear in another tool and should join a survey campaign without an export and an import.
Watch out
it needs both a Project Id and a Campaign Id, so the campaign must exist first.
2

Create a New Response

Action

In Zapier“Adds a new response to a survey”

Records a response in a Le Sphinx survey from data collected somewhere else. The answers then sit alongside the others, ready for the same analysis.

When to use it
answers gathered outside Le Sphinx belong in the same project as the rest, without retyping them.
Watch out
the Project Id is mandatory, and a Zap that starts on New Response must not use this action or it loops.
When it breaks

When a Le Sphinx Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Le Sphinx and no limit specific to the app is documented. What breaks is what breaks on any Zap.

Four situations explain most surprises. None of them shows a red error on day one, which is why they are worth knowing before you publish. For anything deeper, our Zapier troubleshooting page is the place to start.

  • The past is never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Responses and blacklist entries from before are ignored, so moving them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

Start a Zap on New Response and record a response in the same project, and each new one fires it again, burning through your task count fast.
  • A big batch gets held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running everything.
  • The same response never runs twice

On polling triggers like these, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same response or blacklist entry does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

Le Sphinx Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Le Sphinx Zapier integration free?
Yes. Le Sphinx is not a premium app, so its four triggers and two actions work on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The limit is the size of each Zap: two steps, one trigger and one action. Sending each completed survey to another tool fits in that. As soon as you add a filter or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. On the free plan, the triggers are also checked less often.
02How many tasks does a Le Sphinx Zap use?
One task for each action that succeeds. The four Le Sphinx triggers cost nothing, and neither does Zapier checking for new responses, however often it looks. Creating a recipient or a response counts as one task when it works; a failed attempt is not billed. In a Zap with several actions, each successful one counts on its own. A few apps and actions take more than one task, so the counter in your account is the figure to follow.
03Is Le Sphinx on Zapier real time?
No. All four Le Sphinx triggers are polling ones: Zapier goes and checks for new items at a fixed interval set by your plan. That is every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional and every minute on Team and Enterprise. On paid plans you can also change how often it checks, or run a check by hand from the editor. The two actions run as soon as the Zap reaches them.
04What is needed to connect Le Sphinx to Zapier?
A Le Sphinx account and a few clicks. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Le Sphinx, click Add connection, then sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. After that, most steps want identifiers: New Response With Answers and both actions ask for a Project Id, and Create a New Recipient also needs a Campaign Id. The project and the campaign have to exist, and your account needs access to them.
05What is the difference between New Response and New Response With Answers?
Both start a Zap when a survey is completed, but only New Response With Answers carries the answers to the next step. New Response simply signals that a completion happened, which is enough to count or notify. If the following app needs what people replied, pick New Response With Answers and give it the Project Id of the survey. Both are polling triggers, so neither one is faster than the other.
06What if the Le Sphinx operation you need is not listed?
Then Zapier cannot do it with Le Sphinx today. The integration offers four triggers (New Email Blacklisted, New Phone Number Blacklisted, New Response, New Response With Answers) and two actions (Create a New Recipient, Create a New Response). There is no search, and nothing to edit or delete a response or a recipient. Those moves stay manual in Le Sphinx. Before working around a gap, check the event list in the editor, since an app can add operations.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Le Sphinx?
Choose on criteria, not on a ranking. Coverage: on Zapier, Le Sphinx has four triggers and two actions, so check what another tool lists for Le Sphinx before switching. Speed: every Zapier trigger here is a polling one, so the delay follows your plan. Cost model: Zapier bills each successful action as a task, and the triggers are free. Zap shape: on the free plan, a Le Sphinx Zap holds one trigger and one action, so a filter or a second step means a paid plan.
