What the LegalMatch Zapier integration does for you
It turns LegalMatch events into starting points. When a client posts a case that fits the criteria, or when an attorney replies to a lead, LegalMatch tells Zapier, and Zapier runs the steps you chained behind it in your other tools. Traffic goes one way only: out of LegalMatch, never back in.
Three things people usually build. A lead log: New Lead adds one row per matched case to a spreadsheet, so no case lives only in a LegalMatch inbox. A CRM record: the same trigger hands the case details and the client info to your CRM, which is the job LegalMatch itself describes for this app. A reply tracker: Update Lead fires when an attorney answers a lead whose name and contact details are masked, so the follow-up shows up where your team already looks. All three fit in a trigger plus one action, which is exactly the size the free plan allows, so you can try each one before paying for anything.
What Zapier does not do here: there is no action and no search for LegalMatch. A Zap cannot create, edit or look up a lead inside LegalMatch, and it never pulls the leads you received before switching it on. The integration is a doorway out, not a two-way sync. If you are weighing Zapier against other tools for this, see our n8n vs Zapier comparison.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words do most of the work on this page. Read them once and the rest goes faster.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts a Zap. Here it is a LegalMatch event, a newly matched lead or an attorney reply, and Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- The step that does the work once the Zap has started: it writes, sends or moves something in another app for you.
- Task
- What Zapier bills: one action completed successfully. The number on your plan is a count of those and nothing else.
- Polling or instant
- Polling means Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant means the app calls Zapier itself. Both LegalMatch triggers are instant.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and quietly stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your LegalMatch account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that needs it, so you sign in a single time.
- Multi-step Zap
- Anything beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter turns a Zap into one, and that needs a paid plan.
What a LegalMatch Zap really costs
The short version: LegalMatch never eats into your plan, only the steps after it do. Also see our Zapier review.
- Cost of a trigger0 tasks
- Free plan100 tasks a month
- Free plan Zap size2 steps
- Premium appNo
A trigger costs no task, so every lead LegalMatch reports is free to receive. Each action that succeeds counts once; one that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps. LegalMatch is not a premium app, so it works there. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap turns multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The polling grid below does not touch you: both triggers are instant.
Connect your LegalMatch account in three steps
- 01
Open Apps and add a connection
In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box: type LegalMatch and pick it from the list that appears.
- 02
Sign in to LegalMatch
Click Add connection. A new tab opens on LegalMatch. Sign in with the account that receives the leads you want the Zap to see, not the account of a colleague.
- 03
Grant Zapier access
Approve the access Zapier asks for. The connection then appears under Apps and every LegalMatch step reuses it. For leads you do not own yourself, your account needs read or write access to them.
Your first Zap: log every matched case
GoalEach time LegalMatch matches you with a case, add a row to your lead spreadsheet, but only when the lead passes a filter you define.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Start a new Zap, choose LegalMatch as the app that starts it and New Lead as the event, then select the connection you just made.
- 02
Test it on real leads
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent leads of your account, so you map the next steps on a real case instead of a guess.
- 03
Add the filter
Click the plus icon, add Filter and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, the value to compare. Use a text rule on text and a number rule on numbers.
- 04
Add the spreadsheet step
Add the action in your spreadsheet app, map the LegalMatch fields into its columns, then test it once and read what came back before going further.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch it on. With the filter this is a multi-step Zap and needs a paid plan; drop the filter to stay on the free plan.
LegalMatch triggers
2 events start a Zap when something happens in LegalMatch, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Lead
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a lead posted a case and the automation owner matched the criteria.”
Starts your Zap when a client posts a case and it matches the criteria set by the owner of the automation. The case details and the client info then travel to the steps that follow, ready for a CRM, a sheet or a message.
Update Lead
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a lead with a masked name and contact details gets replied by the Attorney.”
Fires when an attorney replies to a lead whose name and contact details are masked. It tells you a conversation has actually begun on a case, something the new-lead trigger alone cannot show.
When a LegalMatch Zap breaks
Four failures to know before you rely on this Zap for every incoming case.
Zapier attaches no help article to LegalMatch and no limit specific to the app is documented, so the cases below come from how Zapier itself works. When one of them bites, start with the Zapier troubleshooting page.
Older leads are never picked up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Cases matched or answered before that stay in LegalMatch, and moving that backlog is a separate job.A burst of leads can be held back
If a large batch arrives at once, after a bulk import for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold the trigger back instead of running every lead through. The filter never lets anything through
Filter rules are typed. A text rule only works on text and a number rule only on numbers; picking the wrong one is the usual reason a filter never passes. The free plan stops at two steps
Zaps on the free plan hold one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, and it will not run until you move to a paid plan.
