Overview

What the LemonInk Zapier integration does for you

LemonInk puts a personal watermark into the ebook files you sell. Through Zapier, an automation service, another tool can ask it to do that for you. A Zap (one automation) waits for an event elsewhere, such as a sale, and then sends LemonInk the order or the file to stamp. No copy and paste between tabs.

Orders that reach LemonInk on their own. Create Order passes each sale to LemonInk with its product IDs. LemonInk can then email the watermarked files to the buyer if you turn delivery on.

A personal copy built from buyer details. Watermark With Customer Data takes the buyer's details and lets your LemonInk watermarking templates write the text, so every copy carries its owner's mark.

A copy stamped with the exact words you choose. Watermark With Text embeds a text you build in Zapier, for instance the order reference, when the template approach does not fit.

Now what the app page leaves out. LemonInk has no trigger and no search on Zapier. A Zap cannot react to something that happens inside LemonInk, and it cannot look up an existing order or file there. The event that starts the Zap always comes from another app, and every Document ID or Store ID has to be known in advance. Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words are enough to follow this page. Each one keeps the meaning given here.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With LemonInk, it always comes from another app, since LemonInk has none.
Action
What the Zap does once it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something. All 3 LemonInk operations are actions.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan counts tasks, never triggers.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval that depends on your plan.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for the next check.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your LemonInk account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap and every step that calls LemonInk.
Cost

What a LemonInk Zap really costs

Every LemonInk step is an action, so every successful one is counted.

  • Tasks on the free plan100 per month
  • Steps allowed on the free plan2 (one trigger, one action)
  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • LemonInk triggers0, the Zap starts elsewhere

A task is one action that completes successfully. The trigger in the other app never costs a task, and a LemonInk action that fails is not billed. A Zap that sends one order uses one task per sale; add a second action and it uses two. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, limited to two steps: one trigger, one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. LemonInk is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. If your trigger is a polling one, the grid below sets how quickly it is noticed.

Connect

Connect LemonInk to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need a LemonInk account first, with access to the store and the files your Zap will use.

  2. 02

    Pick LemonInk

Type LemonInk in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the LemonInk side, ready for you to sign in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to LemonInk in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once, and every LemonInk action you add later reuses it as is.

First Zap

Your first Zap: every web store sale sent to LemonInk

GoalTurn each new order from your web store into a LemonInk order, but only for the sales that match a condition you set.

  1. 01

    Start from your store

Create a Zap and choose your web store as the trigger app, with its new order event. Test it: Zapier brings back the three most recent orders so you work on a real one.

  2. 02

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Fill in the field to look at, the rule and the value. Use a text rule on text and a number rule on numbers.

  3. 03

    Add Create Order

Add LemonInk with Create Order. Fill in the Store ID, map your store's order number into External Order ID, and list the LemonInk Product IDs to include.

  4. 04

    Decide on email delivery

Turn on Deliver Via Email if LemonInk should send the files itself. It needs the customer's email, so map that field too. Left blank, the store's default setting applies.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step and check what came back. Then click Publish. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

Actions

The 3 LemonInk actions

LemonInk gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Order

Action

In Zapier“Submits an order to LemonInk for watermarking and (optionally) email delivery to the customer. Each order can include one or more LemonInk products, identified by their product IDs.”

Hands LemonInk a full order to watermark, with one or more products picked by their LemonInk product IDs, and can have the files emailed to the buyer.

When to use it
your web store records the sale and LemonInk should handle the watermarking and the delivery from there.
Watch out
the External Order ID must be unique per store; sending the same one again will not create a second order.
2

Watermark With Customer Data

Action

In Zapier“Creates a unique watermarked copy of a file for a customer. Provide the customer's data and we'll use your LemonInk watermarking templates to generate a unique text to use for each watermarking.”

Makes one personal watermarked copy of a single file, using the buyer details you pass and your LemonInk watermarking templates to compose the mark.

When to use it
you sell a single file and want the wording of the watermark to stay consistent from one buyer to the next.
Watch out
it asks for a Document ID, which sits on the file's page in the Your files section of LemonInk.
3

Watermark With Text

Action

In Zapier“Creates a unique watermarked copy of a file for a customer. Provide the text to be used with the watermarking.”

Stamps a copy of a file with a text you write yourself in the Zap, instead of letting a LemonInk template build it from buyer details.

When to use it
the mark should show something specific, such as the order reference, that the buyer will recognize as theirs.
Watch out
if the text includes a name or an email address, think about privacy, since that text is embedded in the file the buyer receives.
When it breaks

When a LemonInk Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to LemonInk, so the known weak spots are the general limits plus the IDs every LemonInk action asks for.

Most failures show up on the first real sales. If none of these cases explains what you see, open our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Earlier sales never reach LemonInk

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Orders placed before that are not sent to LemonInk; moving that history is a separate job.
  • The order is not created twice

External Order ID must be unique per store. Sending the same ID again does not create a new LemonInk order, so a replayed sale looks like nothing happened.
  • The Document ID is wrong

Both watermark actions need a Document ID from the Your files section. A wrong or missing ID leaves the action unable to find the file to stamp.
  • A bulk import gets held back

If the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running every item.

FAQ

LemonInk and Zapier: common questions

01Is the LemonInk Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free Zapier plan, because LemonInk is not a premium app. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is the shape: one trigger and one action, nothing more. Since LemonInk only has actions, a free Zap is your store's trigger plus one LemonInk action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap needs a paid plan. Prices change often, so check the current grid on Zapier before choosing.
02How many tasks does a LemonInk Zap use?
Each LemonInk action that completes successfully counts as one task. The trigger in your other app costs nothing, and an action that fails is not counted. A Zap that sends one order per sale uses one task per sale. If the same Zap also runs Watermark With Text for a bonus file, that sale costs two tasks. A few apps and actions can take more than one task each, so keep an eye on your task count after launch.
03Does LemonInk react in real time?
That depends on the app that starts the Zap, because LemonInk has no trigger of its own. If your store's trigger is instant, the store calls Zapier the moment an order exists and LemonInk receives it right away. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. Look at the trigger of the other app on its Zapier page to know which case you are in.
04What does it take to connect LemonInk to Zapier?
A LemonInk account with access to the store and the files you plan to use. In Zapier, open the Apps page, click Add connection, search for LemonInk, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. Then keep two kinds of IDs at hand: the Store ID, listed under Stores in your LemonInk dashboard, for Create Order, and the Document ID, shown on each file's page under Your files, for both watermark actions.
05Why did resending an order not create a new one?
Because the External Order ID has to be unique per store. If a Zap sends an order with an ID that LemonInk already received, no duplicate is created. That protects you when a sale is replayed by mistake, but it also means a test run with a fixed ID will look like it did nothing the second time. Map the real order number from your store into that field rather than typing a constant value.
06What if the LemonInk operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then the editor has no way to add it. The 3 actions on this page are the only LemonInk operations Zapier offers: no trigger and no search. A Zap cannot react to an event inside LemonInk or look up an existing order there. If your workflow needs that, the answer is a platform that can talk to LemonInk directly, or a manual step in the LemonInk dashboard for that part of the job.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for LemonInk?
It depends on the job. If you only need to push sales or files from another tool into LemonInk, Zapier does it with 3 actions and the free plan covers a two-step Zap. If you need LemonInk to start a workflow or answer a lookup, Zapier has no trigger or search for it, so check how other platforms handle the app. Your budget per task, how many steps the workflow needs and who will maintain the workflow are the criteria that decide.
