Overview

What the LiveChat Zapier integration does for your team

The LiveChat Zapier integration lets what happens in your LiveChat website chat set off work in your other tools, through Zapier, a service that chains automations without code. LiveChat reports each event to Zapier itself, and the steps you add after it decide what happens next.

Three results cover most uses. A record of every conversation: Finished Chat hands each closed chat to the next step, so a spreadsheet or a database keeps the history without anyone copying it. A heads-up for the people who answer: New Visitor in Queue and New Chat tell another tool that someone is waiting or has just started talking. Follow-up that does not get lost: New Ticket passes each new ticket on, and Chat Changed reacts when the tags of a chat are edited, which makes tags a way to route work.

What Zapier does not do here is just as clear. LiveChat has no action and no search step on Zapier, so a Zap cannot send a chat message, create a ticket or look anything up in LiveChat. LiveChat is always the first step, never a later one.

The good news sits in the timing. All five triggers are instant, so a free plan gets the event as soon as LiveChat sends it. To weigh the same app on another tool, see the LiveChat Make integration or the Make vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words you will meet in the editor, in plain English, so the rest of the page reads without a manual.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts a Zap, such as a chat ending in LiveChat. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, in another app here.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts exactly those.
Instant vs polling
Instant: the app calls Zapier as the event happens. Polling: Zapier asks the app for news on a timer. All LiveChat triggers are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something already stored in an app so later steps can use it. LiveChat offers none on Zapier.
Connection
Your LiveChat account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that starts from LiveChat.
Cost

What LiveChat on Zapier really costs

A LiveChat trigger never costs a task. You pay in tasks only for the actions that follow in other apps, one per action that succeeds; an action that fails is not counted.

  • Premium appNo, works on Free
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2-step Zaps
  • LiveChat trigger0 tasks, instant
  • BilledEach successful action

LiveChat is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps per Zap. One LiveChat trigger plus one action fits; a filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap (anything beyond one trigger and one action), which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is the one Zapier applies to polling triggers; it does not apply to the five LiveChat triggers, which are all instant.

Connect

Connect LiveChat to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need a LiveChat account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick LiveChat

Type LiveChat in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the LiveChat side, where you sign in with your usual account.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to LiveChat in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. Every Zap that starts from LiveChat can then reuse this connection without asking again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log every finished chat

GoalEach chat that ends in LiveChat and meets your condition becomes a row in your spreadsheet, so the history builds itself.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap in Zapier. You build it in order: the app and event that start it, then the app and action that follow, then the fields you map between them.

  2. 02

    Set the trigger

Choose LiveChat and the Finished Chat event, then select your connection. The editor shows a lightning bolt: this trigger is instant.

  3. 03

    Test on a real chat

Test the trigger. Zapier brings back the three most recent finished chats of the account, so you pick a real one and map from what it actually carries.

  4. 04

    Add a filter

Click the plus icon and add a Filter. Set the field to look at, the rule and the value to compare with. The filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Add the spreadsheet step

Add your spreadsheet app with its row-creation action. Map the chat details you want to keep into the columns, run the step once and read what came back.

  6. 06

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. It logs the chats that end from now on. Chats finished before you published are not added, and moving them over is a separate job.

Triggers

LiveChat triggers on Zapier

5 events start a Zap when something happens in LiveChat, and 5 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Chat Changed

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when the tag list for a particular chat was changed.”

Fires when someone edits the tag list of a particular chat, adding or removing a tag. The chat and its tags then reach the next step of your Zap.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when your team tags chats to sort them, and a given tag should send the chat somewhere else, like a follow-up list.
Watch out
it reacts to any change of the tag list, so add a filter on the tag you care about, which turns the Zap into a multi-step one.
2

Finished Chat

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when the chat is ended.”

Starts your Zap once a chat has ended, with the closed conversation available to every step after it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
to keep a record of conversations outside LiveChat, or to start a follow-up once the visitor has left.
Watch out
only chats that end after you publish the Zap are sent; the history from before stays where it is.
3

New Chat

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when the chat is started.”

Kicks off a Zap as soon as a chat begins on your LiveChat widget, before anyone knows how it will end.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when the start of a conversation is the signal, for example to note that a visitor reached out or to warn a colleague.
Watch out
every chat counts, so a busy day means many runs; each action that follows costs a task each time.
4

New Ticket

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when the ticket is created.”

Reacts to the creation of a ticket in LiveChat and passes it to the steps that follow.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when tickets need a life outside LiveChat, such as a card in a task tool or a line in a shared tracking sheet.
Watch out
a Zap cannot write back to the ticket, since LiveChat has no action on Zapier; whatever happens next lives in the other tool.
5

New Visitor in Queue

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a visitor enters queue.”

Goes off when a visitor enters the queue, meaning someone is waiting for an answer and no chat has started yet.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
to alert the people who answer chats through another tool when the queue starts to fill.
Watch out
on a day with many waiting visitors, each one starts the Zap, and a sudden wave can meet Zapier's flood protection.
When it breaks

When the LiveChat integration breaks

No rate limit specific to LiveChat is published in what Zapier attaches to the app. What breaks is general Zapier behavior, and the instant triggers do not change that.

Zapier links one help article to the app, How to get started with LiveChat on Zapier. For a Zap that stops without an obvious cause, see Zapier troubleshooting. These four cases come first.

  • Nothing from before the Zap

A Zap only reacts to chats, tickets and queue entries that happen after you publish it. Older ones are not picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • Flood protection on a big wave

If LiveChat suddenly reports a huge batch of events, after a bulk import or a migration for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold the Zap back.
  • The two-step ceiling

On the free plan a Zap stops at one trigger and one action. Adding a filter on tags or a second action makes it multi-step, and it needs a paid plan.
  • Nothing to test with

A trigger test pulls the three most recent items of the account. On a fresh LiveChat account with no chat or ticket yet, there is nothing to map from.

FAQ

LiveChat Zapier integration: FAQ

01Is the LiveChat Zapier integration free?
Yes, for two-step Zaps. LiveChat is not a premium app, so it runs on the free Zapier plan, with 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. A Zap made of one LiveChat trigger and one action in another app fits that plan. As soon as you add a filter, for example on a chat tag, or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. Your LiveChat subscription is a separate matter that Zapier pricing does not cover.
02How many tasks does a LiveChat Zap use?
Only the actions after the trigger cost tasks, one per action that succeeds. The LiveChat trigger itself is free, and an action that fails is not counted. A Zap that logs each finished chat as a spreadsheet row uses one task per chat, so 100 tasks cover 100 finished chats on the free plan. Busy triggers like New Chat or New Visitor in Queue run often, so they are the ones to watch when your count drops fast.
03Does LiveChat trigger Zaps in real time?
Yes. All five LiveChat triggers are instant: LiveChat tells Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The polling interval grid of the plans, 15 minutes on Free, does not apply to them. In the editor, a Zap built on one of them shows a lightning bolt. That type is decided on the LiveChat side, so there is nothing to switch on in the editor.
04What does it take to connect LiveChat to Zapier?
A LiveChat account you can sign in to, plus read or write access on anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch. The connection starts from the Apps page of your Zapier account with + Add connection: you pick LiveChat, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. Before the first test, make sure the account holds at least one recent chat or ticket, since the test brings back the three most recent items.
05Can Zapier send a message or create a ticket in LiveChat?
No. On Zapier, LiveChat offers 5 triggers and 0 actions, so a Zap can start from LiveChat but never write into it. Sending a chat message, creating a ticket or changing a tag from a Zap is not possible with this integration. Every action of your Zap happens in another app: a spreadsheet, a task tool, a team inbox. Plan your flow so that LiveChat is the starting point and the other tools do the work.
06What if the LiveChat operation you need does not exist?
No setting will add it: on Zapier, LiveChat is a source of events and nothing else. If what you miss is an event outside those 5, Zapier has no way to listen for it. If what you miss is writing into LiveChat, the answer is the same, since there are 0 actions. Two moves are left. Hook your flow onto the nearest of the 5 events, often Finished Chat or a tag change. Or check the same app on Make or n8n, which keep their own lists.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for LiveChat?
There is no overall winner, only criteria. Direction first: if data only flows out of LiveChat, Zapier covers it, and all 5 triggers are instant even on the free plan. If anything has to flow back into LiveChat, Zapier cannot do it, so look at what Make and n8n offer for the app. Then cost: on Zapier, a filter on tags or a second action means a paid plan, so compare how the other two count steps and runs for the same flow before you decide.
