What the Modica SMS Messaging Zapier integration does for you
The Modica SMS Messaging Zapier integration lets your automations send text messages from your Modica account. It only works as an outbound step: something happens in another app, and Modica sends the SMS. Zapier offers two actions for it and no trigger, so the start of every automation comes from elsewhere.
Three things people usually get out of it. A text per new record: a row lands in your spreadsheet, and Send an SMS Message takes the number and the wording straight from that row. One message, several recipients: the To Phone Number field accepts several numbers separated by spaces, commas or semicolons, so a single action reaches all of them. The same send with more settings: Send an SMS Message (Advanced) does the job with extra options; open it in the editor and check at the test which ones your account shows.
What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. Nothing that happens inside Modica can start an automation, because the app has no trigger on Zapier. There is no search step either, so a Zap cannot look up a message that went out earlier. And the length rule stays yours to watch: a message over 160 characters is split, and each extra block of 160 characters uses another Modica credit.

The Zapier words you need, in one minute
Zapier has its own vocabulary. Here is each word once, in plain terms, then the rest of the page uses it as is.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. Modica has none, so another app plays this part.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you. Here, sending an SMS.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, so nothing waits for the next check.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Modica account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that sends through Modica.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Modica SMS Zap really costs
Modica SMS Messaging is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The bill counts actions, not checks.
- Trigger0 tasks
- Each SMS action that succeeds1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Premium appNo
The trigger of the other app never costs a task, and looking for new data costs nothing either. Each SMS action that succeeds counts as one task; one that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps: add a filter or a second action and you need a paid plan. The interval grid below only concerns a polling trigger of the app that starts your Zap: Modica has no trigger, so it never applies to Modica itself.
Connect Modica SMS Messaging to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the connections page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps, then click + Add connection. Before you start, have an account on Modica SMS Messaging, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
- 02
Pick Modica SMS Messaging
In the dialog, type the app name, select Modica SMS Messaging in the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Modica side for the next step.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Modica in that tab, then let Zapier use the account. The connection is then saved once, and every Modica step of every Zap you build reuses it.
Your first Zap: a text for each new spreadsheet row
GoalSend an SMS through Modica when a new row is added to your spreadsheet, only for the rows that pass the filter you set.
- 01
Build: start on the spreadsheet
Create a Zap and pick your spreadsheet app with its new-row event as the trigger. Modica cannot start a Zap, so the starting point always lives in another app.
- 02
Test the trigger on a real row
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent rows of the connected account, so you map the next steps on real data instead of guesses.
- 03
Add a filter (paid plan)
Click the plus icon, choose Filter, then fill the three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, the value. This makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add Send an SMS Message
Pick Modica SMS Messaging and the Send an SMS Message action. Map the phone column into To Phone Number and write the Message, mixing your own words with values from the row.
- 05
Test, read, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back before going further, on the Modica step as much as on the trigger. When the result looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
The 2 Modica SMS Messaging actions
Modica SMS Messaging gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Send an SMS Message
ActionIn Zapier“Allows you to send an SMS message to one or more numbers.”
Sends a text from your Modica account to one number or to several at once. You fill two required fields: who receives it, and what it says.
Send an SMS Message (Advanced)
ActionIn Zapier“Allows you to send an SMS message to one or more numbers, with support for advanced options.”
Does the same send, with advanced options on top of the recipients and the text. Open it in the editor to see which settings it adds for your account.
When a Modica SMS Zap breaks
Zapier ties no help article to this app, so the traps below are the general ones, read through a Zap that ends on an SMS.
They come from the way Zapier runs a Zap, not from Modica itself. If one of them is already biting, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
No catch-up on the past
A Zap reacts only to what happens after you switch it on. Rows or records that already existed get no text, and moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off
As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and eats tasks fast.A sudden flood held back
When a trigger returns a huge batch at once, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of texting everyone. The same item, one run
On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same item does not start the Zap twice.
