Overview

What the Monty Zapier integration does for your pipeline

Monty is a sales CRM built to help a team close deals. The Monty Zapier integration lets it talk to the other apps you use: Zapier spots each new deal, and it can also create deals or mark them as won when something happens elsewhere. Three operations in all, enough for the two ends of a pipeline.

Deals that create themselves from your forms. A new submission in your form tool, followed by Add Deal, puts the lead into Monty as a deal, so nobody copies the details from one screen to another.

An alert in team chat for every new deal. New Deal starts the Zap and a chat message tells the team a new deal entered the pipeline.

A deal closed in Monty when the deal closes elsewhere. Mark Deal as Won updates the deal state from another app, as long as that app's step carries the Monty deal ID.

What Zapier does not do for Monty: there is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up a deal by name or by contact before acting on it. There is no trigger for won deals or edited deals either, only for new ones. And New Deal is checked on a timer, not reported instantly. Each scenario above is two steps, with no filter in between, and runs on the free plan. Before you settle on one tool, see our Make vs Zapier guide.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Seven terms you will see in the editor. For a wider opinion of the tool, see our Zapier review.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. Monty has one: New Deal.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like adding a deal.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant trigger
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier at a fixed interval. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Monty Zap really costs

Monty is not a premium app: it works from the free plan. New Deal never costs a task, however often Zapier checks it. Add Deal and Mark Deal as Won count one task each time they succeed.

  • New Deal triggerNever counts as a task
  • Add Deal or Mark Deal as Won1 task per successful run
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan

An action that fails is not counted. Checking Monty for new deals costs nothing either, however often Zapier looks; only a completed action is billed. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps of two steps each: one trigger, one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The grid below shows how often Zapier checks New Deal, depending on your plan.

Connect

Connect Monty to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Monty account linked once, then reused by every step that uses Monty.

  2. 02

    Pick Monty

Search Monty by name in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. You need an account on Monty, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Monty in the tab that opens, then grant Zapier access to the account. From then on, every Monty trigger and action in your Zaps can use that connection.

First Zap

Your first Zap: new Monty deals in team chat

GoalPost a message in your team chat for each new Monty deal, but only for the deals that meet your condition.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Monty as the trigger app and New Deal as the event, then select the Monty connection you added earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent deals of the account, so you map the next steps on a real one. Read what came back before going further.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

From the plus icon, add Filter and set its three boxes: the field, the rule and the value. The filter makes it a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the chat action

Add your chat app as the action, pick the channel and map the deal fields you want in the message. Check at the test which fields New Deal really returns.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the action once and read the message in your chat app. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on; every new deal that passes the filter is announced.

Triggers

The Monty trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Monty. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Deal

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new deal is created.”

Starts your Zap each time a deal is created in Monty, which makes it the entry point for anything that should follow a fresh opportunity: an alert, a row in a report, a welcome email.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when the people who follow the pipeline live in a chat app and should hear about each new deal without opening Monty.
Watch out
Zapier remembers the deals it has already seen, so the same deal never starts the Zap twice.
Actions

The 2 Monty actions

Monty gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add Deal

Action

In Zapier“Adds a new deal into Monty”

Creates a deal in Monty from whatever the earlier steps carried, so a lead captured elsewhere enters the pipeline on its own.

When to use it
after a form, a booking or a spreadsheet row that should become an opportunity for the sales team.
Watch out
as a general precaution, a Zap that writes where its own trigger looks can set itself off again.
2

Mark Deal as Won

Action

In Zapier“Mark Deal as won in Monty”

Sets an existing Monty deal to won. It needs two things: the deal ID and the deal state.

When to use it
when the moment a deal is won is recorded in another app, and Monty should reflect it without a manual update.
Watch out
Monty has no search step, so the deal ID has to come from an earlier step; check at the test that it is really there.
When it breaks

When a Monty Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Monty, so the cases below are the general limits that apply to every Zap.

Four general limits are worth knowing before you rely on a Monty Zap. If a run stops and you cannot see why, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Existing deals are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Deals already in Monty stay out of it; moving that history is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

A Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burn through your task count.
  • Bulk imports held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • The same deal never runs twice

On a polling trigger like New Deal, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so one deal does not start the Zap a second time.

FAQ

Monty Zapier integration: your questions

01Is the Monty Zapier integration free?
Yes. Monty is not a premium app, so its trigger and both actions work on the free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that posts every new deal to a chat channel fits in it. Add a filter, or chain Add Deal with another action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Monty Zap use?
The trigger never costs anything: Zapier can check New Deal as often as your plan allows without billing a task. What counts is each action that completes successfully. Add Deal uses one task per deal it creates; Mark Deal as Won uses one per deal it updates. An action that fails is not counted. A Zap with three actions uses three tasks per run, so keep long Zaps for the cases that really need them.
03Does Monty trigger Zaps in real time?
No. New Deal is a polling trigger: Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one, 2 minutes on Professional, 1 minute on Team and Enterprise. On the paid plans you can also run a check by hand from the editor. The type is set by the app and cannot be changed from Zapier. Testing the trigger brings back the three most recent deals of the account.
04What do you need to connect Monty to Zapier?
An account on Monty, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection starts from the Apps page of your Zapier account with + Add connection; you search Monty, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. It is done once, and every Monty step in your Zaps reuses it afterwards. Keep in mind that Mark Deal as Won will then ask for the ID of a deal that already exists in that account.
05Why does Mark Deal as Won ask for a deal ID?
Because the action updates a deal that already exists, and the ID is how Monty knows which one. The ID and the deal state are both required fields. Monty offers no search step on Zapier, so the Zap cannot look the deal up by name: the ID has to come from an earlier step of the same Zap. Check at the test which step carries it, and that the field is really filled before you publish.
06What if the Monty operation you need is missing?
Open the Monty page on Zapier, which shows the current list of triggers and actions. Today it holds New Deal, Add Deal and Mark Deal as Won, and nothing else. There is no search and no trigger for won or edited deals. Look first at whether one of the three, maybe with a filter on a paid plan, already covers enough of the job you had in mind, and check at the test what it really returns.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Monty?
Weigh it by criteria. Coverage: on Zapier, Monty offers one polling trigger and two actions, with no search, so check that this is enough for your flow. Speed: New Deal is checked every 15 minutes on the free plan and every minute on Team, so the plan matters if you want fast alerts. Availability: check whether Make or n8n list Monty at all before comparing them. Then compare cost per run on your own volume.
