What the morningmate Zapier integration does for you
The morningmate Zapier integration lets other apps write into morningmate. morningmate presents itself as an all-in-one tool for projects, tasks, file storage and messaging. Through Zapier, an event in another app can open a task, publish a post, add a schedule to a project, or have a bot send a notification to someone.
A form answer that becomes a task. Create Task adds a task to a morningmate project, with a title, content and status. A request that arrives through a form lands where the team already works.
A project update that writes itself. Create Post publishes a post in a project from a line in a spreadsheet or a record elsewhere, so the update reaches everyone without copy and paste.
A date that shows up in the project. Create Schedule adds a schedule with a start and an end, or an all-day one, and Create Bot Notification sends a message from a bot account to one person.
What Zapier does not do here: morningmate has no trigger and no search, so nothing that happens inside morningmate can start a Zap, and no step can look up a project or a user for you. Every Zap starts in another app, and nothing that existed before it was switched on is picked up. If you are comparing automation tools for this, see our Make vs Zapier guide.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words come back on this page. Here they are once, in ordinary English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. morningmate has none, so the trigger always comes from another app, such as a form.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, here creating a post, a task or a schedule.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Not to be confused with a morningmate task in a project.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer: it asks the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen yet.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for the next check.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a morningmate Zap really costs
Zapier bills tasks, and a Zapier task is one action that succeeds, not a task in a morningmate project. The trigger of the other app never costs anything, and an action that fails is not counted against your plan.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps of two steps
- Premium appNo, morningmate works on every plan
- One morningmate actionOne task when it succeeds
- Filter or second actionMulti-step Zap, paid plan
morningmate is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps, one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below applies to the trigger of the other app if it is a polling one; morningmate has no trigger, so the grid never concerns it directly. Each of its four actions counts the same way.
Connect morningmate to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your morningmate account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every morningmate step you add.
- 02
Pick morningmate
Search for morningmate in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in to your morningmate account and finish the link there.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to morningmate in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
Your first morningmate Zap
GoalTurn each answer of your form into a task in a morningmate project, but only the answers that match a rule you set.
- 01
Create the Zap and pick the trigger
Create a new Zap and choose your form tool as the app that starts it, with its new-response event. Test the trigger so you work on a real answer, not a blank one.
- 02
Add the filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, and the value to compare with. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 03
Add Create Task
Choose morningmate as the action app and Create Task as the event. Select your morningmate connection, or add it if this is the first time.
- 04
Fill the required fields
Fill Register ID, Project ID, Title, Content and Status. Project ID takes digits only, and the title stays within 200 characters.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test each step once and read what came back before going further. When the morningmate step returns what you expect at test, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
morningmate actions
morningmate gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Bot Notification
ActionIn Zapier“Send notification message to user.”
Sends a notification message from a bot account to one morningmate user, named by Receiver ID. It is the way to reach a person directly rather than a whole project.
Create Post
ActionIn Zapier“Create new post to project.”
Publishes a new post in a morningmate project, written in the name of the account you give as Register ID. The update reaches the project without anyone writing it by hand.
10,000.Create Schedule
ActionIn Zapier“Create new schedule to specified project.”
Adds a schedule to a morningmate project, with a start and an end, or as an all-day schedule. Dates decided elsewhere show up where the team plans.
YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss, and an all-day schedule uses YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00.Create Task
ActionIn Zapier“Create new task to project.”
Opens a task in a morningmate project with a title, content and a status. The work lands in the project the moment the Zap runs this step.
When a morningmate Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to morningmate and documents no limit of its own for this app. What breaks is what breaks on every Zap, plus the formats and lengths the morningmate fields expect.
Six cases follow, three general limits and three tied to the fields of the actions, each on its own card. For help with a Zap that misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Nothing from before is picked up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Answers or rows added before that never reach morningmate, and moving them is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off again
A Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burn through your task count fast. Keep that general precaution in mind.A sudden batch held back
When the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of firing them all.Dates in a set shape
Create Schedule expects Start Datetime and End Datetime as YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss, with 00:00:00 for an all-day schedule. Check at test that the mapped date arrives that way.IDs with restricted characters
Register ID and Receiver ID accept lowercase letters, numbers, the dash and the @ sign, up to 100 characters. Project ID takes numbers only, up to 15 digits.Titles with a length cap
A notification title stays within 50 characters; post, task and schedule titles within 200. Check at test what the earlier step sends before it goes live.
