What the Newie Zapier integration does for you
Newie handles the payments of independent service providers, people who sell their own services. Plugging it into Zapier means one thing: each time something happens to a payment, a purchase or a subscription in Newie (a payment lands, a subscription pauses, a purchase goes through), a Zap, the automation you build on Zapier, can pass that event on to the rest of your tools without you copying anything by hand.
Three results people usually want out of it. A running ledger: Payment Paid feeds a row into your spreadsheet for every completed payment, subscription or one-off. A churn alert: Subscription Ends and Subscription Paused each post a note to the place your team already reads, so somebody follows up. A collections list: Payment Overdue and Payment Uncollectible push the late ones to wherever you chase them, the second one only once every automatic retry has failed.
Now the limits, because they shape every Zap you will build. On Zapier, Newie only talks. It has no action and no search, so a Zap can never create a payment, void a charge, change a subscription or look anything up inside Newie. Newie is always the first step, never the second. If you were hoping to push data back into it from a form or a CRM, this integration will not do it.

Zapier vocabulary, the short version
Eight words come back on every line of this page. Here is what each one means in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. With Newie, it is always a payment, purchase or subscription event.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you. Newie has none, so actions come from your other apps.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those, nothing else.
- Polling vs instant trigger
- Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself when the event happens. All 14 Newie triggers are instant.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Newie account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap and every step that needs Newie.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Newie Zap really costs
The Newie side costs you nothing in tasks: the trigger itself never uses one. What counts is what happens after.
- Trigger0 task, whatever the volume
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps each
- Premium appNo, Newie works on the free plan
Each action that succeeds is one task, so a Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap does. An action that fails is not counted. Newie is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, with one catch: the free plan stops at two steps. Newie trigger plus one action, fine. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is how often Zapier checks a polling trigger on each plan; it does not apply to the instant triggers of Newie.
Connect your Newie account to Zapier
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Newie account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
- 02
Pick Newie
Type Newie in the search box of the dialog and select it from the results, then click Add connection to go on. A new browser tab opens so you can reach your Newie account.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Newie in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. From then on, the connection is reused by every Zap that starts with a Newie trigger.
Your first Zap: flag payments Newie gave up on
GoalWhen Newie has exhausted its automatic retries on a payment, post it to your team chat, but only for the cases you decide to chase.
- 01
Create the Zap and pick the trigger
Start a new Zap, choose Newie as the app and Payment Uncollectible as the event, then select your Newie connection. Every Newie trigger is instant, so there is no interval to set.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from your account, so you map the next steps on a real one. Read what came back before going further.
- 03
Add a filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, the value. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add the chat action
Pick your chat tool as the action and build the message from the fields the Newie test returned. Whatever you see in the test is what you can use.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action once, check the message landed where you expected, then click Publish to switch the Zap on. On the free plan, drop the filter and keep two steps.
The 14 Newie triggers, one by one
14 events start a Zap when something happens in Newie, and 14 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
All Events - Payments
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when any payment-related event for a subscription or one-off purchase occurs.”
This is the catch-all for money movements: any payment event, whether it belongs to a subscription or to a one-off purchase, starts the Zap. One trigger can stand in for several payment Zaps.
All Events - One-Off Purchase
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when any one-off purchase event involving a customer takes place.”
Scoped to one-off purchases only: any event involving a customer and a single purchase sets the Zap off, and subscriptions stay out of it.
All Events - Subscription
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when any event related to a subscription occurs.”
The subscription counterpart of the two catch-alls above: anything that happens to a subscription runs the Zap, from creation to the end.
One-Off Purchase Complete
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer makes a one-off purchase.”
Runs when a customer makes a one-off purchase. Nothing else in the purchase life cycle sets it off, which keeps the volume, and the tasks spent, down.
Subscription Created
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer purchases a subscription – even if billing starts in the future.”
Fires as soon as a customer buys a subscription, even when the billing only starts at a later date. It marks the commitment, not the first payment.
Subscription Ends
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a subscription ends.”
Starts the Zap when a subscription comes to an end. It is the signal to hang your offboarding on.
Payment Overdue
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a payment for a subscription or one-off purchase is overdue.”
Past-due payments set this one off, for subscriptions and one-off purchases alike.
Payment Paid
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a payment is complete for a subscription or one-off purchase.”
Fires when a payment is complete, for a subscription or a one-off purchase alike. Of the 14 triggers, it is the one closest to cash in hand.
Subscription Paused
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a subscription is paused.”
A subscription put on pause is what this trigger listens for. The client has not left, but billing has stopped for now.
Subscription Renewed
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer makes a subscription payment.”
Runs each time a customer makes a subscription payment. Think of it as the recurring heartbeat of each subscription.
Payment Skipped
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a payment for a subscription is skipped due to a pause.”
Here the event is a subscription payment skipped because the subscription is paused. The pause is the reason, and the trigger is there to record it.
Subscription Started
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when the first payment for a subscription is complete and the subscription becomes active.”
Waits for the first payment of a subscription to go through, then fires as the subscription becomes active. Signed and paid, in one event.
Payment Uncollectible
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when all auto-retries have failed for a subscription or one-off purchase.”
Sets the Zap off once every automatic retry has failed on a payment, subscription or one-off. Newie has done all it can on its own.
Payment Voided
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a payment is manually voided for a subscription or one-off purchase.”
Runs when someone voids a payment by hand, for a subscription or a one-off purchase. It is a manual decision, not something Newie does on its own.
When a Newie Zap breaks
Instant triggers remove the waiting, not every problem. Three limits apply to every Newie Zap.
None of these is specific to Newie: they come from how Zapier works. When a run fails for another reason, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
The past is not picked up
A Zap reacts only to what happens after it is switched on. Payments and subscriptions that existed before are never sent, and moving that backlog is a separate job.Flood protection after a big batch
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back.A filter on the free plan
The free plan only runs two-step Zaps. Adding a filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, and it then needs a paid plan to run.
