Overview

What the Nimble Links Zapier integration does for you

Nimble Links is a set of online tools for building short links that do more than shorten. On Zapier it only receives: another app starts the Zap, then Nimble Links creates a plain short link, or a link that spreads its clicks across several destination URLs, evenly or at random.

Three results you can build with the three actions. First, a short link for every new URL: Create Short Link takes a destination URL from the step before and turns it into a short link, so nobody shortens addresses by hand. Second, a fair split of traffic: Create Redirect Evenly Link builds one link that shares clicks evenly between two or more URLs, handy when two pages should get the same share of visits. Third, a random split: Create Redirect Randomly Link does the same with a random distribution of clicks.

What Zapier does not do with Nimble Links: there is no trigger, so a Zap cannot start when a link is created or clicked in Nimble Links. There is no search step either, so a Zap cannot look up a link that already exists, and none of the actions edits or deletes a link. Every Zap starts in another app, which also sets how fast it runs.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Eight words keep coming back below. Here they are in plain English, once.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With Nimble Links, that event always happens in another app.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, sends or moves something for you, like a short link.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by its app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that finds something already stored in an app so later steps can use it. Nimble Links offers none on Zapier.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Nimble Links Zap really costs

Nimble Links is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. The trigger in the other app costs nothing: only a Nimble Links action that succeeds counts as a task.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • What countsEach successful action, never the trigger

Each successful action counts on its own: create a short link and then send an email, and every run uses two tasks. A failed action is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps, one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.

Nimble Links has no trigger, so the grid below concerns the app that starts your Zap: if its trigger works by polling, this is how often Zapier checks it on each plan.

Connect

Connect Nimble Links to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Nimble Links account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that creates links.

  2. 02

    Find Nimble Links

Search for Nimble Links by name in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in to your Nimble Links account and finish the link.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in and grant Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

First Zap

Your first Nimble Links Zap, step by step

GoalWhen your form tool receives a new entry with a URL, create a short link in Nimble Links, then send an email.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick your form tool as the app that starts it, with its new-entry event. Connect the account. If the editor shows a lightning bolt, its trigger is instant.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from the connected account, so you map fields on a real entry rather than on a guess.

  3. 03

    Add the short link

Add Create Short Link from Nimble Links, choose your connection and map the entry's URL into Destination, the only required field of this action.

  4. 04

    Add the email

Add your email step and map only values you have seen at the test; what Create Short Link returns is not described, so read its test result first. Two actions make this a multi-step Zap: it needs a paid plan and uses two tasks per run.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and read what came back. When the email looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Our Zapier training is there if you want to go further.

Actions

Nimble Links actions on Zapier

Nimble Links gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

When it breaks

When a Nimble Links Zap stops working

Zapier does not attach a help article to Nimble Links, and no limit specific to the app is documented. What remains are four general rules that apply to every Zap.

  • Nothing before the switch-on

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. URLs that already sat in your other app are not picked up, and shortening that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and use up tasks fast.
  • A sudden flood

If the trigger app suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • The same item twice

On a polling trigger, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same item does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

Nimble Links and Zapier: the questions people ask

01Is the Nimble Links Zapier integration free?
Yes. Nimble Links is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you want, each with two steps only: one trigger from another app and one action. Any of the 3 Nimble Links actions fits in such a Zap. If you add a second action after the link, or a filter, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Nimble Links Zap use?
One task for each Nimble Links action that completes, and nothing for the trigger in the other app. A Zap that only creates a short link uses one task per run. A Zap that creates the link and then sends an email uses two. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. A few apps and a few actions take more than one task when they complete, so check your usage after the first runs.
03Can Nimble Links start a Zap in real time?
No, because Nimble Links has no trigger on Zapier: it only acts at the end of a Zap. How fast your link is created depends on the trigger of the app that starts the Zap. If that trigger is instant, the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks it on a timer, every 15 minutes on the free plan and more often on paid plans.
04What do you need to connect Nimble Links to Zapier?
An account on Nimble Links, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. You connect once from the Apps page of your Zapier account with + Add connection, then sign in to Nimble Links in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. Every Nimble Links step then reuses that connection, so you do not repeat it for each new Zap.
05Evenly or Randomly: which redirect link should you pick?
Both build one link that spreads clicks across several destination URLs, and both require at least 2 URLs in Destinations, one per input field. Create Redirect Evenly Link distributes the clicks evenly between them. Create Redirect Randomly Link distributes them at random. Pick the even version when each page should get a balanced share, and the random one when an approximate spread is enough. Run a test with your real URLs before publishing.
06What if the Nimble Links operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then Zapier cannot do it for Nimble Links today. The Nimble Links page on zapier.com shows the current list of operations, so check there first. As of this reading it holds 3 actions, all about creating links, with no trigger and no search. So a Zap cannot react to a click, read your existing links, or change one. Check that page before you design a Zap around a move that is not listed.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Nimble Links?
Compare them on what your workflow needs. On Zapier, Nimble Links only offers 3 actions, so the starting event comes from another app and the speed depends on that app's trigger. The free plan stops at two steps, so a link plus a second action in the same Zap means a paid plan. Before comparing prices, check whether Make or n8n actually offer a Nimble Links module, and which operations it covers.
