Nimblist Zapier integrationAutomate Nimblist with Zapier.
The Nimblist Zapier integration gives you 2 triggers, both polling, and 2 actions, with no search step. Below, what each one does, what it costs on each plan, how to connect your account, and the cases where a Zap stops or runs later than you expect.

What the Nimblist Zapier integration does for you
Nimblist is a shared shopping list app for households: live lists, pantry stock and meal planning in one place. Connected to Zapier, it works both ways. A new item or a new list can start a Zap, and another app can add an item to a list or create a fresh list in Nimblist.
Three results you can build today. First, a running record of what gets added: New Item Added starts a Zap when an item lands on a shopping list, and the next step writes it somewhere else, a sheet for instance. Second, items that arrive from another tool: Add Item to List puts an item on the list you pick, so whatever starts the Zap elsewhere ends up on the shared list without anyone typing it. Third, new lists on demand: Create Shopping List opens a list from an event in another app, and New Shopping List lets you react when someone creates one in Nimblist.
What Zapier does not do with Nimblist: there is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an existing list or item. Neither action edits or removes an item, and both triggers work by polling, so nothing on the Nimblist side starts a Zap instantly. Nimblist is not a premium app, so a two-step Zap with one of its operations runs on the free plan.

Zapier words in one minute
Eight words keep coming back below. Here they are in plain English, once.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, sends or moves something for you, like a list item.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer, like both Nimblist triggers. An instant trigger is reported by its app the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that finds something already stored in an app so later steps can use it. Nimblist offers none on Zapier.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Nimblist Zap really costs
Nimblist is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. The trigger costs nothing, and neither do the checks Zapier runs on it: only a completed action counts as a task.
- Premium appNo, available on the free plan
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- What countsEach successful action, never the trigger
Each successful action counts on its own, so a Zap with two actions uses two tasks per run. A failed action is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger, one action. A filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.
Both Nimblist triggers work by polling, so the grid below applies to them directly: it is how often Zapier checks Nimblist for new items or lists on each plan.
Connect Nimblist to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Nimblist account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that touches Nimblist.
- 02
Find Nimblist
Search for Nimblist by name in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in to your Nimblist account and finish the link.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in and grant Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
Your first Nimblist Zap, step by step
GoalWhen a new shopping list appears in Nimblist, keep only the ones that meet your condition, then post a message in your team chat.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap, pick Nimblist as the app that starts it and New Shopping List as the event, then choose your Nimblist connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from the connected account, so you see real lists and the values they actually carry.
- 03
Add the filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon, then set its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule and the value. A filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add the message
Add your chat step and place in the message the values the trigger test brought back. Check at the test what the message really shows before going further.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back. When it looks right, click Publish. Since the trigger polls, new lists show up at the next check for your plan, not instantly. Our Zapier training goes further.
Nimblist triggers on Zapier
2 events start a Zap when something happens in Nimblist. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Item Added
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new item is added to a shopping list.”
Starts your Zap when a new item is added to a Nimblist shopping list, so what the household puts on the list can be copied, counted or announced in another tool.
New Shopping List
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new shopping list is created.”
Fires on a brand-new shopping list rather than on its contents: each list created in Nimblist becomes a fresh start for your Zap.
Nimblist actions on Zapier
Nimblist gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add Item to List
ActionIn Zapier“Adds an item to one of your Nimblist shopping lists.”
Puts an item on the Nimblist list you choose, using the name the earlier step brought, so nobody has to retype it.
Create Shopping List
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a new Nimblist shopping list.”
Opens a new Nimblist shopping list named from a value your Zap carries, ready for the household to fill.
When a Nimblist Zap stops working
Zapier does not attach a help article to Nimblist, and no limit specific to the app is documented. What remains are four general rules that apply to every Zap, and to polling triggers in particular.
Keep them in mind before you rely on the Zap. If a run fails anyway, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Nothing before the switch-on
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Items and lists that already existed in Nimblist are not picked up, and moving them is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off
As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and use up tasks fast.A sudden flood
If a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back. The same item twice
On a polling trigger, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same item does not start the Zap twice.
