NuRoute Zapier integrationAutomate NuRoute with Zapier.

The NuRoute Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 1 action and 0 searches. One action sends a message to an AI model through NuRoute, which can pick the model for you. It works on the free plan. Here is how to wire it, what it costs and where it trips.

Beta app Zapier still marks this integration as beta.

Overview

What the NuRoute Zapier integration does for your AI workflows

Zapier links apps so that an event in one runs a step in another, with no copying by hand. NuRoute is an AI router: it sorts each request, sends it to the model best suited to it, and checks it against your rules before it runs. Through Zapier, any app can hand text to NuRoute and use the answer in the next step.

Three results people build with it. Inbound emails summarized for the team: each new message goes through Create Chat Completion and the summary lands in your team chat. Form answers sorted before anyone reads them: the model labels a request as sales, support or spam, and a filter routes it. Draft replies ready to edit: a support ticket goes in, a first draft comes back next to it.

What Zapier does not do here. NuRoute has no trigger, so it never starts a Zap on its own: the text always comes from another app first. There is no search either, and only one action, so anything beyond sending one message and reading one answer happens in other steps. Zapier also lists the NuRoute integration as beta, so expect its fields and behaviour to change over time.

If you are comparing automation tools for AI work, the n8n vs Zapier comparison and the Zapier review are the next two pages to read, in that order.

Vocabulary

The Zapier words you will meet, in one minute

Eight terms come back on this page. Here they are once, in plain words.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap, such as a new email. NuRoute has none, so another app always plays this part.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or asks something for you, like a request to an AI model.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer: it asks the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for Zapier's next check.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What it really costs to call NuRoute from Zapier

The trigger of your Zap never costs a task, and neither do Zapier's checks on the app that supplies the text.

  • One AI requestOne Zapier task when it succeeds
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Premium appNo, NuRoute works on the free plan
  • Use the answer in a next stepMulti-step Zap, paid plan

Each Create Chat Completion that succeeds is one task on Zapier, and a failed one is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps and a check every 15 minutes on polling triggers, but only two-step Zaps: a trigger, then the AI request, and nothing after. Sending the answer somewhere or filtering on it adds a step, so a paid plan. NuRoute is not a premium app. What NuRoute itself charges for the request is not covered here.

Connect

Connect your NuRoute account to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the connections page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your NuRoute account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that sends it requests.

  2. 02

    Find NuRoute and sign in

Type NuRoute in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A tab opens on NuRoute's side: sign in with the account your AI requests should run under.

  3. 03

    Grant access and come back

Allow Zapier to use the account, then return to the editor. You need a NuRoute account of your own for this; without one there is nothing to connect and the action cannot run.

First Zap

Your first Zap: summarize each new email and post it to the team

GoalEach time an email lands in a shared inbox, have NuRoute summarize it and post the summary where your team works.

  1. 01

Start from the app that holds the text

Create a Zap and pick your inbox, form or helpdesk as the trigger. NuRoute cannot start a Zap, so this first step always belongs to another app.

  2. 02

Test the trigger on a real message

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items; pick one with real content so the next step has text to send.

  3. 03

    Add Create Chat Completion

Add a NuRoute action, Create Chat Completion. Set Model to auto or a model ID, then write your instruction in User Message and map the email body into it.

  4. 04

    Post the answer

Add a step that sends NuRoute's answer to your team chat. A second action after the trigger makes this a multi-step Zap, so a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step once and read the answer NuRoute returned before going further. Then publish to switch the Zap on. Emails already in the inbox are not processed.

Actions

The NuRoute action, in detail

NuRoute gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Chat Completion

Action

In Zapier“Sends a chat completion request through your intelligent AI gateway.”

Sends your message to an AI model through NuRoute and returns the model's answer for the next step. In Model, auto leaves the choice to NuRoute's routing, or you can name a model ID such as gpt-4o directly.

When to use it
a support lead wants every incoming ticket summarized in two lines before the team opens it.
Watch out
Model and User Message are both required, so an empty message field makes the run fail.
When it breaks

When a NuRoute Zap breaks, and why

Zapier attaches no help article to NuRoute, so the known failure points are the general ones, plus the two required fields.

Most broken runs come from four situations. When you cannot place a failure, the Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the checks in order.

  • Older items are never processed

A Zap only reacts to what arrives after you publish it. Emails, tickets or rows that already existed are not sent to NuRoute; that backlog is a separate job.
  • The message arrives empty

User Message is required. If the trigger app sends an item with no text in the mapped field, Create Chat Completion fails for that run.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

Post the AI answer into the very place your trigger watches, say the same inbox, and the Zap can start again on its own output and burn tasks.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Import a large batch of items at once and the trigger suddenly returns a huge pile. Zapier's flood protection may hold them back instead of running them.

FAQ

NuRoute Zapier integration: the questions people ask

01Is the NuRoute Zapier integration free?
On the Zapier side, yes: NuRoute is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. That is enough to send a message to NuRoute, not to use the answer, because posting it somewhere is a third step and needs a paid plan. What NuRoute charges for the AI requests themselves is a separate matter. Prices are not listed here because they change too often.
02How many tasks does a NuRoute request use?
One Zapier task for each Create Chat Completion that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger that brought the text in. Zapier checking your inbox or form for new items is free, however often it looks. A request that fails is not counted. In the Zap on this page, which summarizes an email and posts it, you pay for the AI request and for the message: two tasks per email. On the free plan, 100 tasks is 100 requests a month in a two-step Zap.
03How does a NuRoute Zap start if it has no trigger?
It starts from another app. NuRoute has no trigger at all, so it can only be the second step or later. The first step is the app where your text arrives: an inbox, a form, a helpdesk, a sheet. How fast the Zap reacts then depends on that app's trigger. If it is instant, the Zap starts straight away; if it is polled, Zapier checks at the interval of your plan, 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise.
04What does it take to connect NuRoute to Zapier?
A NuRoute account, nothing more on the NuRoute side. You add the connection once from the Apps page of Zapier with the + Add connection button, sign in to NuRoute in the tab that opens, and grant access. Every Zap that sends requests then reuses that connection. On the Zap side, you need a trigger app that carries the text you want processed, since User Message is required and NuRoute has no way to fetch content by itself.
05What should go in the Model field?
Either auto or a specific model ID, and the field cannot be left empty. With auto, NuRoute's routing engine looks at the request and picks the model it judges best for it, which is the point of using a router. Naming a model ID such as gpt-4o sends every request to that model instead. Start with auto unless you have a reason to pin one model, for instance to keep answers consistent across a batch, and test with a real item before publishing.
06What if the NuRoute operation you need does not exist?
Then Zapier cannot do it with NuRoute today, and no setting adds it. The integration offers one action, Create Chat Completion, with no trigger and no search, and Zapier lists it as beta. Anything beyond sending one message and getting one answer, such as reacting to an event on the NuRoute side, is outside what this connector covers. The workaround is to build around that action, chaining several requests in separate steps if you need more than one answer.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for NuRoute?
It depends on what you weigh most, not on a winner. Zapier is the fastest way in: NuRoute works on its free plan and the action is ready to pick. Its limits appear as soon as you use the answer, since each extra step needs a paid plan and each successful step counts as a task. Make and n8n bill and run steps differently, which matters for AI workflows that chain several requests. Compare them on request volume, budget and who will maintain the Zaps.
