What the OVOU Zapier integration does with the contacts you collect
The OVOU Zapier integration takes the contact details people exchange with you through your OVOU digital business card, and sends them to the other apps you rely on, without code. A Zap (the automation you build on Zapier) checks OVOU for new exchanges, then does a job for you elsewhere.
Three results come up most. Leads that reach the CRM by themselves: New Contact (From Your Account) passes each exchange on your own OVOU profiles to your CRM, so a conference does not end with a stack of contacts to type in. A sales team with one shared pipeline: New Contact (From Your Team) collects the exchanges of every team member, which suits a manager who wants all field contacts in one place. A follow-up that starts on its own: either trigger can feed your mailing tool, so a thank-you sequence goes out without anyone remembering to send it.
Now the limits. Both triggers are polling ones: Zapier checks OVOU at the interval of your plan, so a contact never shows up in your Zap the second it is shared. OVOU has no action and no search in Zapier: a Zap reads from OVOU, it never writes into it, so editing or tagging a contact inside OVOU stays a manual job. Zapier words you will meet on this page
Seven terms, in plain words.
- Zap
- The automation itself: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, here in another app.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer and keeps only what is new. An instant one is reported by the app itself, right away.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your OVOU account linked to Zapier once, then reused by each of the Zaps that start from OVOU.
What an OVOU Zap really costs
Zapier bills tasks, and a task is one action that succeeds. OVOU only provides triggers: the trigger never costs a task, and neither does any check Zapier runs on OVOU, however often.
- Tasks on the free plan100 per month
- Steps per Zap on the free plan2 (one trigger, one action)
- Cost of an OVOU check0 tasks
- OVOU on the free planYes, not a paid-only app
An action that fails is not counted, and a Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap eats. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month for two-step Zaps only: one OVOU trigger, one action elsewhere. A filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. OVOU is not reserved to paid plans; how often its two triggers are checked follows the interval grid below.
Connect OVOU to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. In the dialog that opens, search for OVOU by name and pick it from the results.
- 02
Sign in to OVOU
Click Add connection. OVOU opens in a new tab: sign in with the account whose profiles, or whose team, the Zap should follow. Your own OVOU account is the one prerequisite.
- 03
Grant access
Let Zapier reach the account. If the contacts you want belong to colleagues, check first that your account can read them, since the Zap only sees what the connected account sees.
Your first Zap: send the right OVOU contacts to your CRM
GoalEach contact exchanged with your OVOU profiles that meets your condition is added to your CRM, with no copy and paste.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Start building: choose OVOU as the app that starts the Zap and New Contact (From Your Account) as the event, then select your OVOU connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent contacts of the connected account; pick a real one so the next steps are mapped on actual details.
- 03
Add a filter
From the plus icon, add a Filter step and set the field to look at, the rule and the value. A text rule only works on text, a number rule only on numbers.
- 04
Add the action
Pick your CRM as the next app and the action that adds a contact there, then map each detail from the OVOU contact into the matching CRM field.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action and check the record in your CRM. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. With the filter it is a multi-step Zap, so a paid plan is needed.
OVOU triggers in Zapier
2 events start a Zap when something happens in OVOU. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Contact (From Your Account)
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when someone exchanges contact with any of your OVOU profiles.”
When someone exchanges contact details with any of your own OVOU profiles, this trigger starts the Zap with that new contact, ready to be filed or followed up.
New Contact (From Your Team)
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when someone exchanges contact with any member of your team.”
The team-wide version: the Zap starts whenever someone exchanges contact details with any member of your team, not just with you.
When an OVOU Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to OVOU and lists no limit specific to the app. What breaks is the general behavior of Zaps.
Four cases cover most surprises. For a Zap that still misbehaves, see Zapier troubleshooting.
Old contacts never come through
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Contacts exchanged before that are not picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.The Zap keeps firing on itself
A Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches sets itself off again and again, and burns through your task count fast.A sudden wave is held back
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a migration for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back before anything runs.No duplicates from one trigger
Zapier remembers what it already saw on a polling trigger, so the same contact does not start the same Zap twice. Two Zaps, though, each see it once.
