Overview

What the PageVitals Zapier integration actually does

It links PageVitals, which monitors how fast your website loads using lab tests and data from real visitors, to Zapier, the tool that chains apps without code. You build a Zap (one starting event, then the steps after it) and PageVitals either starts it when tests finish, or runs tests inside it.

Three results teams build first. A test report in the channel: Test Series Completed starts a Zap that posts in the web team's channel each time a run ends, so nobody has to open the dashboard to know it happened. A check after every release: when your deploy tool or project board marks a release as done, Run Test Suite launches the tests of your pages straight away. A checkout path under watch: Run Multistep Test replays a scripted journey, such as adding to cart then paying, whenever another app tells it to.

What Zapier does not do here. The only trigger is polled: Zapier checks PageVitals on a timer, so a finished series reaches the Zap at the next check, not the moment it ends. There is no search, and no action to add a website, edit a test or change its settings: those stay in PageVitals. And a Zap never goes back in time: test series finished before you switch it on are not picked up.

If you are still weighing the platform, the Zapier review covers it as a whole, and Make vs Zapier puts it side by side with Make.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are once, in ordinary language.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run each time that event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. PageVitals has one: a test series ends.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or, here, launches a PageVitals test for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is pushed to Zapier by the app itself, with no wait.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What it really costs to run

PageVitals is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan. The meter that matters is the task count.

  • Premium appNo, free plan works
  • Trigger0 tasks
  • Successful action1 task each
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2 steps

The trigger costs nothing, however often Zapier checks. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, including Run Test Suite and Run Multistep Test, and a failed one is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and checks Test Series Completed every 15 minutes, but it only builds two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap needs a paid plan, which also shortens the check interval.

Connect

Connect PageVitals to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your Apps page

In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account. That is where every connection lives: your account of an app, linked once, then reused by every Zap that needs it.

  2. 02

    Add the connection

Click + Add connection, type PageVitals in the dialog, pick it, then click Add connection. You need a PageVitals account with the website you want to test already set up.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to PageVitals in the tab that opens and let Zapier access the account. From then on, any Zap can pick this connection from a list instead of asking you to log in again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log every finished test series and tell the team

GoalWhen a PageVitals test series completes, add a row to the performance sheet and post a message in the web team's channel.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose PageVitals, then Test Series Completed, and select your connection. Paste the Website ID of the site whose tests you want to follow.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from your account, so you map the next steps on a real finished series rather than an empty example.

  3. 03

    Add the sheet row

Add the spreadsheet step and map what PageVitals sent into the columns of your performance sheet, one row per finished series.

  4. 04

    Add the message

Add a third step that posts in the web team's channel. With it, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan; on the free plan, keep just one.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step once and read what came back. When it looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only series that finish after that will start it.

Triggers

The PageVitals trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in PageVitals. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

Test Series Completed

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a test series completes.”

Starts your Zap when a series of tests finishes on the website you chose in PageVitals. It is the natural point to pass the outcome on to the people who will act on it.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
giving the web team a heads-up in their channel, or keeping a running log of each series in a shared sheet the agency and the client both read.
Watch out
the Website ID is required, and each Zap follows one website; a second site needs its own Zap.
Actions

The 2 PageVitals actions

PageVitals gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Run Multistep Test

Action

In Zapier“Triggers a run of a multistep test.”

Replays one scripted journey you built in PageVitals, such as login then checkout, rather than a single page load.

When to use it
after a change to the payment provider, to confirm the purchase path still behaves before customers notice.
Watch out
it needs both the Website ID and the Multistep Test ID, which is the last part of the test's address in PageVitals.
2

Run Test Suite

Action

In Zapier“Runs tests of the pages in your PageVitals account.”

Launches the tests of the pages set up in your PageVitals account, on demand, from whatever event starts the Zap.

When to use it
a card moves to Released on your project board, and you want fresh performance numbers on the live site without asking anyone.
Watch out
never start it from Test Series Completed on the same account, or each finished run launches the next one.
When it breaks

When it breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to PageVitals, so the known traps are the ones every Zap shares. Around performance tests, they show up in specific ways.

Read these before you publish. If a Zap is already misbehaving, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the usual causes.

  • Past test series are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Series that finished earlier stay out of it, and loading that history is a separate job.
  • A test that launches the next test

Test Series Completed followed by Run Test Suite on the same site sets itself off again and again, and burns through your task count fast.
  • A sudden wave can be held back

If the trigger returns a huge batch at once, for instance after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the run back.
  • The same series never runs twice

Zapier remembers what it has already seen on a polling trigger, so checking again does not start the Zap a second time for the same series.

FAQ

PageVitals Zapier integration: questions

01Is the PageVitals Zapier integration free?
Yes, on the Zapier side it works on the free plan, because PageVitals is not a premium app. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and checks the trigger every 15 minutes. Its real limit is shape: a free Zap has one trigger and one action, nothing more. A finished series followed by one message fits. Add a filter, a second app or a second PageVitals action, and you need a paid Zapier plan.
02How many tasks does a PageVitals Zap use?
None for the trigger: Zapier checking for finished series costs nothing, however often it looks. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, and a failed one is not counted. So a Zap that launches Run Test Suite after each release uses one task per release. A Zap that logs each series in a sheet and posts a message uses two per series. Launching both actions in one Zap is two tasks per run.
03Is PageVitals on Zapier real time?
No. Test Series Completed is a polling trigger: Zapier checks PageVitals at a fixed interval and only keeps the series it has not seen yet. On the free plan that check runs every 15 minutes, on Professional every 2 minutes, and on Team and Enterprise every minute. So a finished series reaches your Zap at the next check. On paid plans you can also run a check by hand from the editor while testing. The actions, for their part, launch tests when the step runs.
04What does it take to connect PageVitals to Zapier?
A PageVitals account with your website set up, and a Zapier account. From the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for PageVitals, click Add connection, then sign in to PageVitals and grant access. The connection is saved once and every Zap reuses it. Before building, copy your Website ID from Settings in PageVitals, and the Multistep Test ID from the test's address if you plan to replay a journey.
05Why does a PageVitals Zap keep running tests on its own?
Usually because it feeds its own trigger. If Test Series Completed starts a Zap whose action is Run Test Suite on the same website, each finished series launches a new one, which finishes and launches another. The Zap loops and eats tasks. Start the test actions from something outside PageVitals instead, such as a release in your project tool, and keep the trigger for reporting results. The two roles never meet, and the loop is gone.
06What if the PageVitals operation you need is not in Zapier?
Then it has to happen in PageVitals itself. On Zapier, the app offers one trigger and two actions: you can hear when a series finishes and launch either the page tests or a multistep test, but you cannot add a website, edit a test or read a past report. Any setup work stays in the PageVitals dashboard. If that gap blocks you, write down the exact step you are missing before you compare tools.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for PageVitals?
Decide on criteria rather than on a ranking. First, direction: on Zapier, PageVitals can report finished series and launch tests, but not be configured. Second, timing: the trigger is polled, every 15 minutes on Zapier's free plan, so check whether that delay matters for your release process. Third, shape: anything beyond one trigger and one action needs a paid plan, and each successful action is a task. Put the same three questions to each tool.
