What the Patreon Zapier integration does
The Patreon Zapier integration sends what happens to your Patreon memberships into your other tools, through Zapier, a service that runs automations between apps without code. Someone joins, pledges, changes their pledge or leaves, and Zapier carries the news to your mailing list, your CRM or your team chat.
Three results cover what creators usually want. New patrons get a proper welcome: New Member Pledge starts the automation and your email tool adds them to the patrons' list. Your records follow every change, because Updated Member Pledge and Updated Member pass upgrades, downgrades and edits along. And people who leave are handled cleanly, with Delete Member Pledge and Delete Member removing them from patron-only lists.
The catch is vocabulary. On Patreon, a member is anyone attached to your campaign, including people who only follow it for free; a pledge is the paid part. New Member also starts for free followers, so a welcome built on it greets people who pay nothing.
What Zapier does not do here: Patreon offers no action and no search in Zapier, so an automation cannot change a membership, message a patron through Patreon or look one up. And nothing that happened before the automation was switched on comes back.

Zapier words you will meet on this page
Seven terms in plain words. The rest of the page uses them without explaining them again.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event takes place.
- Trigger
- The Patreon event that starts a Zap, like a new pledge or a deleted membership. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- The step that does the work after the trigger: it writes, sends or changes something in an app. With Patreon, always in another app.
- Task
- What Zapier bills: one action completed successfully. The number on your plan is a count of those, nothing else.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself. All six Patreon triggers are instant.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming item meets your condition, and stops it right there otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Patreon account linked to Zapier one time, then reused by every Zap that starts from Patreon.
What a Patreon Zap really costs
The trigger never costs a task, so Patreon itself never eats into your Zapier plan. The count comes from the actions in your other apps.
- Trigger0 tasks
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Free plan Zap size2 steps: one trigger, one action
- Premium appNo
Patreon is not a premium app (the kind Zapier keeps for paid plans and trials), so it works from the free plan. Each action that succeeds counts as one task; one that fails counts nothing. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month, with Zaps of two steps only: one trigger, one action. A second action or a filter makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below concerns polling triggers, so it never slows these six.
Connect Patreon to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Patreon account first, plus access to any campaign you do not own and want a Zap to read.
- 02
Pick Patreon
Type Patreon in the search box of the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. Zapier sends you on to Patreon so you can sign in.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
In the tab that opens, sign in with the creator account whose memberships the Zap should follow, then grant Zapier access. The connection is saved and reused by every Patreon Zap.
Your first Zap: welcome every new paying patron
GoalWhen someone starts a pledge, add them to the patrons' newsletter and tell the team.
- 01
Build: choose the trigger
In the editor, pick Patreon as the app that starts the Zap, New Member Pledge as the event, then select the connection you added earlier.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent pledges of your campaign, so you map the next steps on a real patron rather than on empty boxes.
- 03
Add the newsletter
Add your email tool as the first action and map the patron from the test item into the patrons' list. On the free plan, the Zap stops here: one trigger, one action.
- 04
Add the team alert
Add a second action that posts the news to your team chat. Two actions make the Zap multi-step, so this version needs a paid plan and uses two tasks per pledge.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test each action once and read what came back. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only pledges made after that moment will start it.
The 6 Patreon triggers
6 events start a Zap when something happens in Patreon, and 6 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Delete Member
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when an existing membership is deleted.”
When an existing membership is deleted, this trigger starts the Zap. It covers the whole membership, follower or patron, so it is the broadest way to know that someone is gone from your campaign.
Delete Member Pledge
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when an existing pledge on a membership is deleted.”
This one reports the end of the paid part: an existing pledge on a membership is deleted, while the membership itself may live on. It is the trigger that separates a lost patron from a lost follower.
New Member
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new member is created, either by pledging or by following a campaign.”
A new member appears, either by pledging or by simply following your campaign, and the Zap starts. It is the widest entry door: everyone who attaches themselves to your page, paying or not.
New Member Pledge
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new member is created by pledging, or an existing member who is following converts to a pledging member.”
Starts the Zap when a new member signs up by pledging, or when an existing follower converts into a paying member. It is the trigger for money coming in, and the one behind the example Zap on this page.
Updated Member
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a membership has been updated.”
Any update to a membership starts this Zap. It follows the life of the relationship between someone and your campaign after the day they joined, whether or not money is involved.
Updated Member Pledge
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when the pledge on a membership has been updated.”
When the pledge on a membership changes, the Zap starts. This is the trigger for upgrades and downgrades: it watches the paid part of the relationship, where Updated Member watches the membership as a whole.
When a Patreon Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article and no limit of its own to Patreon. What breaks here is what breaks on any Zap, plus the member and pledge overlap.
Four cases to read before you publish. For anything else, keep Zapier troubleshooting at hand.
No backlog
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Patrons who joined before never reach it; importing them into the other tool is a separate job.Two triggers, one person
A new paying patron fits both New Member and New Member Pledge. Two Zaps on the same list mean a double welcome and two tasks spent.Followers in the patrons' list
Build a patrons-only flow on New Member and free followers get in too. Use New Member Pledge when money is the condition.Mass changes trigger a flood
A large batch of membership changes at once, after a migration for example, can be held back by Zapier's flood protection instead of running.
