Overview

What the PixieBrix Zapier integration actually does

PixieBrix is a browser extension that lets you reshape the websites and online tools you use every day: add a button, a menu entry or an automatic reaction where the site never offered one. The Zapier integration is the exit door. Whatever PixieBrix pushes lands in a Zap, which then hands it to your other apps.

Everything goes through one trigger, New Push With Data, so the results depend on where you send the push. Three common ones. A row per page you flag. A button added to a supplier portal pushes what you see on screen, and the Zap logs it in a spreadsheet. A lead without copy and paste. A menu item on a profile page sends the person to your CRM through the Zap's action. A heads-up to the team. A PixieBrix trigger reacts to something on a page and the Zap posts a message in your team chat.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no action to send anything back into PixieBrix and no search step, so the traffic goes one way only, from the browser to your other apps. The Zap also starts only when PixieBrix pushes; it cannot go and read a web page by itself. What gets sent, and when, is entirely set up on the PixieBrix side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words from the Zapier editor. Each one is defined once here, then used without a reminder on the rest of the page.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With the Zap switched on, Zapier waits for that event and reacts to it.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something in another app for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action your Zap completed successfully; your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant trigger
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, the moment the event occurs.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when the incoming data meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your PixieBrix account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that starts from PixieBrix.
Cost

What a PixieBrix Zap costs

PixieBrix is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and the PixieBrix side never adds any.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps per Zap
  • Push from PixieBrixNever billed
  • Failed actionNot counted
  • PixieBrix triggerInstant

The trigger never costs a task: each push is free, and only the action that follows counts when it succeeds. An action that fails is not counted. On the free plan, a Zap stops at two steps, one trigger and one action, which happens to be the natural shape of a PixieBrix Zap. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid only applies to polling triggers; New Push With Data is instant, so it never waits for a check.

Connect

Connect your PixieBrix account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a PixieBrix account, plus access to anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick PixieBrix

Search for PixieBrix in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the PixieBrix side, where the last part of the connection happens.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to PixieBrix in that tab and let Zapier use the account. The connection then shows up under Apps, ready for every Zap that starts with New Push With Data.

First Zap

Your first PixieBrix Zap: a spreadsheet row per click

GoalEach time you click a PixieBrix button on a web page, add the pushed data as a new row in a spreadsheet, but only when it is worth keeping.

  1. 01

    Set the trigger

Build the Zap: pick PixieBrix and New Push With Data, select your connection, then type a Zap Identifier that no other Zap uses.

  2. 02

    Point PixieBrix at the Zap

In PixieBrix, configure the “Push data to Zapier” effect of your button and choose that identifier from its Zap dropdown. Then click the button once to send a real push.

  3. 03

    Test the trigger

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent pushes, so you map the next steps on real data rather than on sample text.

  4. 04

Add the filter and the action

From the plus icon, add Filter and fill its three boxes: field, rule, value. Then add the spreadsheet action and map the pushed data into its columns.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test the action, check the row, then Publish. With a filter, the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan. The Zapier training covers filters in more detail.

Triggers

The PixieBrix trigger: what starts your Zap

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in PixieBrix, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Push With Data

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when there is a push from a PixieBrix button, menu item, or trigger.”

The only door between PixieBrix and Zapier. It opens whenever a PixieBrix button, menu item or trigger pushes data to Zapier, and the Zap receives whatever that push carries. In practice, you decide in PixieBrix what gets sent, and in Zapier where it goes.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a recruiter browsing candidate profiles clicks a button added by PixieBrix, and the profile lands in the hiring tracker without leaving the page.
Watch out
the Zap Identifier is mandatory and cannot be reused across Zaps, so two buttons that should feed two different Zaps need two different identifiers.
When it breaks

When a PixieBrix Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to PixieBrix, so the cases below come from how Zapier works in general and from the one required field of the trigger.

Most surprises fit one of these four cases. When a run still makes no sense, the Zapier troubleshooting page covers the generic diagnosis.

  • The identifier is already taken

PixieBrix does not let a Zap Identifier be reused across Zaps. Give each Zap its own name before you point a PixieBrix button at it, or the setup will not hold.
  • Nothing in the Zap dropdown

The “Push data to Zapier” effect lists Zaps by their identifier. A Zap whose trigger has no identifier set yet has no name to show there, so set it first.
  • Past clicks never arrive

A Zap only reacts to pushes sent after it is switched on. Anything PixieBrix pushed before publication is not replayed; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A burst of pushes is held back

If a PixieBrix trigger suddenly fires on a huge batch at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of processing them all.

FAQ

PixieBrix and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the PixieBrix Zapier integration free?
Yes. PixieBrix is not a premium app on Zapier, so it runs on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The free plan caps each Zap at two steps, one trigger and one action. That suits PixieBrix well: New Push With Data plus one action in another app is already a complete Zap. Adding a filter or a second action turns it into a multi-step Zap, and that needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a PixieBrix Zap use?
Only the actions count. The push from PixieBrix is the trigger, and a trigger never costs a task, however many times you click. Each action that completes successfully costs one task, so a Zap with one action uses one task per push, and a Zap with three actions uses three. An action that fails is not counted. The real lever on your bill is therefore the number of actions behind each button, not the number of buttons.
03Does the PixieBrix trigger start the Zap instantly?
Yes. New Push With Data is an instant trigger: PixieBrix tells Zapier the moment a button, menu item or PixieBrix trigger pushes data. The polling grid, 15 minutes on the free plan, does not apply to it, so even a free account reacts without waiting. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt, an easy way to confirm what you are dealing with. No setting can change that type from the editor.
04What does it take to connect PixieBrix to Zapier?
A PixieBrix account, plus access to anything you do not own and want the Zap to use. The connection itself is quick: open Apps, click + Add connection, pick PixieBrix, sign in and grant access. Then comes the step people forget. The trigger asks for a Zap Identifier, and the PixieBrix effect that pushes the data must select that identifier from its Zap dropdown, or nothing reaches the Zap. Check that link before the first test.
05Can one Zap Identifier feed several Zaps?
No. The Zap Identifier is a required, unique name for one Zap, and PixieBrix states that it cannot be reused across several Zaps. If two buttons should go to two different places, build two Zaps with two identifiers. If one button should reach several apps, keep a single Zap and add actions to it instead, knowing that a second action makes the Zap multi-step and requires a paid plan. Plan the names before building.
06What if the PixieBrix operation you need is not available?
On Zapier, PixieBrix offers exactly one operation, the New Push With Data trigger: no action and no search. Anything that has to happen inside PixieBrix, or inside the web page itself, is built in PixieBrix, not in the Zap. What Zapier adds is the second half, sending what PixieBrix pushed to another app through that app's actions. If the flow needs data to come back into the browser, this integration does not cover it.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for PixieBrix?
Decide on criteria, not on a ranking. First, check the direction of the flow: on Zapier, PixieBrix only sends data out, through one instant trigger. Second, count the steps: one push and one action fit the free plan, while a filter or extra actions require a paid plan. Third, check that the destination apps you need offer the actions you want on the platform you pick, since the PixieBrix side will always be the same single push.
