Shippo Zapier integrationAutomate Shippo with Zapier.
The Shippo Zapier integration gives you 2 triggers, 1 action and 3 searches. That is enough to react to new labels and orders, create orders from elsewhere and look up what Shippo already holds. Here is what each one does, costs and breaks.

What the Shippo Zapier integration actually does
Shippo is the shipping platform merchants use to compare carrier rates, print labels and follow parcels. Plugged into Zapier, it can start an automation whenever a label or an order appears, receive orders created by another tool, and answer lookups about labels and orders it already stores.
Three outcomes cover most of what people build. First, a shipping log that writes itself: New Shipping Label fires on every label created in your account, and the next steps record it wherever your team reads it. Second, orders that land in Shippo without retyping: Create Order takes an order captured somewhere else and drops it into your Shippo queue. Third, answers on demand: Find an Order, Find a Shipping Label and Get Orders fetch what already exists so a later step can use it.
Now the limits. Neither trigger is instant: both wait for Zapier to check, so on the free plan a label can sit unnoticed for up to 15 minutes. There is only one action, so Zapier cannot buy a label, cancel one or update an order for you. And the lookups work on an existing ID or a start date, not on a free-text search.
If you want to see how the same app behaves elsewhere, the Shippo Make integration page covers the Make side with the same honesty, and our Make vs Zapier comparison sets the two tools side by side.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English, once, so the rest reads easily.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier sits and waits for it to happen.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or creates something for you in an app.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- Polling: Zapier asks the app for new items on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself the moment something happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when the data that arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, so the steps after it can use what it found.
What a Shippo Zap really costs
Shippo is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. The bill depends on actions, not on how often Zapier checks.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Billedeach successful action, one task each
- Never billedthe trigger and the polling checks
- Premium appno, Shippo runs on the free plan
The trigger never costs a task, and neither does polling, however often it happens. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, and an action that fails is not counted. The catch: the free plan only builds two-step Zaps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a search step and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
So a plain New Order to Create Order flow would be free, but it is the one pairing to avoid (see below). A label log with a filter is the realistic paid case.
Connect your Shippo account to Zapier
- 01
Open the Apps page
In Zapier, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box. Type Shippo, pick it in the list, then click Add connection.
- 02
Sign in to Shippo
A new tab opens on Shippo. Sign in with the account that holds your labels and orders. If someone else owns that account, make sure you have read or write access to what the Zap will touch.
- 03
Grant access
Shippo asks you to let Zapier into the account. Accept, and the connection appears on your Apps page. Every Shippo step you add later reuses it, so you only do this once per account.
Your first Shippo Zap, step by step
GoalEvery new label is checked against a condition, and only the matching ones go on to fetch their order.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap and pick Shippo as the app that starts it. Choose New Shipping Label as the event, then select the Shippo connection you added earlier.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent labels of your account, so you can pick a real one to build the next steps on.
- 03
Add the filter
Click the plus icon and add a Filter. Pick a field of the label, the rule and the value. Check that a text rule sits on text and a number rule on a number.
- 04
Add the search
Add Find an Order from the SEARCH heading at the bottom of the list. Point its Order field at the order you need, then test the step and read what it brings back.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish. From now on, each new label that passes the filter fetches its order. Remember the filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it runs on a paid plan.
Shippo triggers
2 events start a Zap when something happens in Shippo. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Shipping Label
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new shipping label is created”
Starts the Zap each time a shipping label is created in your Shippo account, so every parcel that gets its label shows up in Zapier. The label then travels down the Zap so later steps can log it, count it or check it.
New Order
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new order is created”
Fires when a new order is created in Shippo. It is the natural starting point for anything that should happen before a parcel leaves, rather than after.
Shippo action
Shippo gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Create Order
ActionIn Zapier“Creates an order.”
Adds a new order to your Shippo account from data that arrived in an earlier step, so it waits in Shippo ready for a label.
Shippo searches
3 search steps look for data that already exists in Shippo, so a later step can use it.
A search step does not change anything in Shippo. It reads what is already there and hands the result to the next steps. Shippo's three searches sit under the SEARCH heading, at the bottom of the action-event list, and each one has three settings worth knowing.
Find a Shipping Label
SearchIn Zapier“Search for a shipping label by ID.”
Looks up one existing label by its ID and hands its details to the following steps. You pick the label from a dropdown built on tracking numbers.
Find an Order
SearchIn Zapier“Search for an order by ID.”
Retrieves a single order already stored in Shippo, picked by its ID through a dropdown that shows order numbers.
Get Orders
SearchIn Zapier“Gets a list of orders placed on or after a start date.”
Returns a list of orders placed on or after a start date you set, which is the only required field. Unlike the two other searches, it can bring back several orders in one go.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and skips the steps that depended on it. Switch it on and the Zap carries on empty-handed.
- Create if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into a find-or-create. Shippo offers no such variant on Zapier, so you will not see it on these three searches.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass all of them on at once.
When a Shippo Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Shippo, so the problems below are the general ones that hit any Zap built on this app.
None of them shows up as an error the first day. They show up later, as missing labels, duplicate orders or a task count that drops overnight. Spotting them early is mostly about knowing they exist. For deeper fixes, our Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the usual suspects.
No backlog
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Labels and orders created before that day are never picked up, and moving them is a separate job.The order loop
New Order followed by Create Order is a Zap that feeds itself: each created order fires the trigger again and the tasks disappear fast.Flood protection
After a bulk import of orders, the trigger can return a huge batch at once. Zapier's flood protection may hold that batch back instead of running it straight through.Duplicates are filtered
Zapier remembers what a polling trigger has already seen, so the same label never starts the Zap twice, even if it reappears on the next check.
