What the Bright Data Zapier integration actually does
It lets an event in any app connected to Zapier send Bright Data to collect public web data for you. Bright Data is a platform built to gather that data at scale; the Zap (an automation on Zapier) decides when a collection starts and where its result goes next.
Three results come out of the three actions. A page of data from a known site: Scrape Website pulls data from the sites Bright Data supports, Amazon, LinkedIn or Facebook among them, as soon as the Zap asks. Any address you choose: Run a Web Unlocker sends your request through one of your proxy zones to the URL you give it. The finished file: Download Snapshot Content (Web Scraper API) fetches what a collection produced, using the ID it returned when it started.
What Zapier does not do here: Bright Data has no trigger, so nothing on the Bright Data side can start a Zap, not even a collection that has just finished. There is no search step either. Every Bright Data Zap starts in another app, and the step that downloads a snapshot needs that snapshot's ID handed to it by an earlier step.
That shapes how you build. A collection started in one Zap and downloaded in another means passing the ID through a tool both can reach, such as a sheet or a file. If you are still choosing a platform for this kind of chain, the n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier comparisons lay out the trade-offs.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words carry this page. Here they are in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Bright Data has none, so with this app the trigger always sits in another tool.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or fetches something, here a Bright Data request.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. Your plan is a monthly count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Bright Data account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step and every Zap that calls it.
What Bright Data on Zapier really costs
Bright Data is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The trigger in the other app never costs a task.
- Premium appNo, free plan works
- Tasks on the free plan100 per month
- Steps per Zap on Free2 (trigger and one action)
- Bright Data triggersNone, start from another app
Each Bright Data action that succeeds counts one task; one that fails is not billed. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only: a trigger plus one Bright Data action. Two Bright Data actions in the same Zap? That is two actions, a multi-step Zap, and a paid plan. Any filter does the same. How fast the Zap starts depends on the trigger app: polling follows the grid below, instant ignores it.
Connect Bright Data to Zapier
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You link Bright Data once here, and every Zap that needs it reuses the same connection.
- 02
Pick Bright Data
Type Bright Data in the search box of the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in on the Bright Data side.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to Bright Data in that tab and grant Zapier access. You need an account on the app, plus rights on any zone or collection you did not set up yourself but want the Zap to use.
Your first Bright Data Zap, step by step
GoalEach address added to a spreadsheet goes out through your Bright Data zone, without anyone pasting it anywhere.
- 01
Build the trigger
Create a Zap and pick your spreadsheet app with its new-row event, on the sheet where addresses land. Testing it brings back the three most recent rows, so you map from a real one.
- 02
Add a filter if needed
From the plus icon, add Filter: the URL column, a text rule, and the condition that it is not empty. This step makes the Zap multi-step, so skip it on the free plan.
- 03
Add Run a Web Unlocker
Choose Bright Data and Run a Web Unlocker, select your connection, pick the Zone that should carry the request, then map the URL column into the required URL field.
- 04
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what Bright Data sent back before going further. When the result looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
Bright Data actions on Zapier
Bright Data gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Download Snapshot Content (Web Scraper API)
ActionIn Zapier“Download snapshot content (Web Scraper API)”
Retrieves what a Web Scraper API collection produced, from the Snapshot ID that collection returned when it was started. An optional Compress setting decides whether the result comes back compressed.
Run a Web Unlocker
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a web unlocker run”
Sends a request to any target address through one of your Bright Data proxy zones. Both the Zone and the URL are required.
Scrape Website
ActionIn Zapier“Scrape data from various websites including Amazon, LinkedIn, Facebook, ChatGPT and more”
Collects data from one of the sites Bright Data supports, picked from the required Website field. It is the shortest way from an event in your tools to structured web data.
When a Bright Data Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to Bright Data, so the failures below are the ones every Zap shares, applied to a Zap that ends with a web request.
A broken Bright Data Zap usually does exactly what it was told, just too often or never. If one is already misbehaving, the Zapier troubleshooting page covers the usual fixes.
Nothing from before the Zap
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Rows or files that already existed never start a scrape, and catching up on them is a separate job.A loop through the trigger app
If the scraped result is written back into the very folder or sheet the trigger watches, the Zap sets itself off again and again and burns your tasks.A bulk import held back
When the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of sending one request per item.
