Tavily Zapier integrationAutomate Tavily with Zapier.
The Tavily Zapier integration offers 0 triggers, 1 action and 0 searches. So Tavily never starts a Zap on its own. It steps in mid-flow, once another app has fired, and goes looking on the web for whatever the next steps need to know.

What the Tavily Zapier integration is for
Plugging Tavily into Zapier adds a web research step to an automation. Some other app starts the Zap, Tavily gets a question, searches the web and hands back what it found. The steps after it put that result to work: post it to a channel, attach it to a record, drop it into a document.
Everything runs through one action, Search, yet the output changes completely with the question you feed it. A pre-call brief for sales: a lead signs up for a demo, Tavily digs into the company, and the account exec gets a summary in the team chat before the call. A topic pack for content marketing: each idea added to the editorial board triggers a search, and the writer starts from sources instead of a blank page. An account check for customer success: when a renewal comes up, a quick search surfaces what has been said about the client lately.
Now the limits. Tavily has no trigger on Zapier: nothing inside Tavily can start a Zap, so another app always sits at the top. And despite its name, Search is not a Zapier search step, the kind that looks up an existing record and comes with settings for an empty result. It is a plain action, listed with the actions.
The same building block exists on Make, and the Tavily Make integration page lets you compare before you pick a side.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words worth knowing before you open the editor.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: a starting event, then one or more steps that run in order every time it happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts the Zap. Tavily offers none, so the trigger of a Tavily Zap always comes from some other app.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it runs. Here, Tavily's Search action queries the web and returns what it turned up.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Your plan quota counts tasks, not the number of Zaps.
- Polling vs instant
- Either Zapier checks the starting app on a timer, or that app tells Zapier itself the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops the run otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Tavily account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that needs a web search in the middle.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it multi-step, and that needs a paid plan.
What it really costs
Tavily is not a premium app on Zapier, so it is available from the free plan up.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Steps on the free plan2: one trigger, one action
- Premium appNo
The trigger from the starting app costs nothing, and Zapier never bills for checking whether something new came in. Only successful actions count, each one on its own. A Zap that runs Search and then posts the result to a channel spends two tasks per run. A failed action is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month but caps Zaps at two steps: one trigger, one action. Tavily is rarely useful alone, though, because you almost always need a step after it to do something with the answer. Plan on a paid tier.
Connect your Tavily account
- 01
Open your connections
In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. Every account your Zaps rely on, Tavily included, is managed from that one page.
- 02
Pick Tavily
In the dialog, type "Tavily", select it from the results and confirm with Add connection. A new browser tab opens so you can finish the sign-in on Tavily's side.
- 03
Grant access
Sign in to Tavily in that tab and give Zapier the access it requests. You need your own Tavily account: without it, the Search action has nobody to run your query for you.
Your first Zap with Tavily
GoalEvery new demo lead in your CRM triggers a web search on the company, and the short answer is posted to the sales channel.
- 01
Set the trigger
In the editor, during Build, choose your CRM and the event that signals a new lead. Test it so you have a real lead to work with in the next steps.
- 02
Add Tavily
Add a step, choose Tavily and the Search action, then select your connection. This is the step that runs the web research on every new lead.
- 03
Write the question
In Query, build your question around the company name from the lead. Turn on Include Answer to get a short summary your reps can read in seconds.
- 04
Post the result
Add your team chat step and drop Tavily's answer into the message, with the lead's name on top. This third step makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 05
Test, then publish
Use Test to run each step once and read the message it produced. If the summary holds up, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
The Tavily action available in Zapier
Tavily gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Search
ActionIn Zapier“Search the web and return answers using Tavily”
Hand it a question and Tavily searches the web, returning results the later steps can pick up. Two options add to what comes back: a short answer that sums up everything found, and the cleaned-up content of each page it turned up.
When it breaks
Since Tavily has no trigger, many failures start in the app at the top of the Zap.
Zapier attaches no help article specific to Tavily, so the cases below are the ones every Zap runs into, applied to web research. To pin down a step that misbehaves, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the method, and Zapier training covers it from the ground up.
Older items never get researched
A Zap only reacts to what arrives after you publish it. Leads or topics already in the starting app will not trigger a search unless you handle them separately. The Zap keeps firing itself
If you write Tavily's answer back into the very place the trigger watches, every write sets the Zap off again, and your task count drains fast.A big batch gets held back
A bulk import into the starting app can push a huge number of items through at once. Zapier's flood protection may hold that batch back. The free plan is not enough
A trigger, Search and a step that uses the answer make three steps. The free plan stops at two, so you need a paid plan to publish this Zap.
